Safari - page auto reloading when switching panes

So far, I love the iPad. However, my first complaint is hen I switch between web page panes. For instance, I am trying to fill out a form on one, but need to grab some info off another page. When i switch back, Safari automatically, reloads the page and clears any information I might have had filled out. This is very counter productive, not to mention, very annoying. Especially, if the page has a lot of pictures, etc.... Anyone having the same problem?

This is a complaint in every iPad forum I've seen (like one at MacRumors). Seems it's due to the only 256mb of RAM in the iPad. Heavily graphic pages use up memory. Opening another heavy graphic page might require that the other one surrender its memory. Thus it needs to reload when it comes back. It's very annoying. I'm sure future iPad's will have more RAM memory, but I doubt there will be any easy way or even possible way to upgrade RAM on our debut models.

• Stop Safari pages from reloading when selected.

Safari in iPad is driving me crazy. Unlike tabs in Safari for Mac, the pages on the iPad seem to be hardwired to reload when you select them (I usually have several pages open and need to switch back and forth between them). And that means lots of wasted time waiting for pages to reload and many times the new page refreshes with different content so I've lost the exact page I was on. Is there a way to stop Safari from auto-reloading pages when they are selected? I'd prefer to have to manually initiate refreshes.

Your advice didn't work for me. Safari was the only app I had running, and I only had two tabs. I was attempting to post in school discussion forum. I opened a new tab, and found the link I wanted to reference. When I returned to the discussion board tab, the page reloaded and I lost everything I had typed thus far.
I have a 16GB iPad 2 with 12GB free. Only one app running and two tabs open and yet it still did this.
Any thoughts on why that might be?

• Pages allows reload when I try to go to them and always go back to the homepage of the site I am trying to view.

When ever I open a new link that isn't the homepage of a site or type in a link, the page always reloads and I lose the content I was trying to view. Many times I have to hit stop so that the page will not reload and therefore the whole page doesn't get to load.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See Troubleshooting extensions and themes and Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• I don't want to have to click the allow button every 3 seconds uploading video, how do I disable the "firefox prevented the page from reloading" when I've already put the site on my exceptions list?

I begin uploading video to Facebook and a small window opens to show the progress bar but, the video stops uploading about every 5% when a notification comes from the top bar stating: "Firefox prevented the page from reloading" with an Allow button on the right. Regardless of clicking the allow button and putting Facebook in every exception list Firefox options seems to have or even turning pop up blockers off, that dam button keeps coming! How do I prevent or disable this?
I am running windows XP media center edition SP2, and have Firefox v3.6.11

You're welcome

• Tabs and pages not drawn when switching tabs.

When switching between tabs or opening new tabs, the tab and the page are not drawn. But if I scroll down the page is drawn.
This doesn't happen always. It happens randomly.

I've been having this problem since a few versions back.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)
In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
*all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
*default theme is used (no persona)
*userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder in profile folder)
*default toolbar layout is used
*JavaScript JIT compilers are disabled
*hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
*plugins are not affected
*preferences are not affected

• Flash player reloads when switching javascript tabs

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

• Safari and other apps reload when switched to from some other app.

Okay so i have safari, twitter and facebook apps opened and i am currently updating twitter. In between i jump to facebook by twice pressing the home button on my iPhone 4s running iOS7. What happens now is that facebook reloads and i am shown my home page even when i was on a friends fb page. I switch back to twitter and now twitter app reloads and show me the homepage and not the search i was doing earlier. I jumped to safari to search for this and safari app reloads and a page that i had earlier opened gets reload..
This is what is happening with all the applications. Is this normal? I have already disable background app refresh option in settings.

Apple does not tell you that IO7 64bit  is memory hungry and the memory on iphone/ipads are 1GB . Basically the iOS7 is running out of memory and reloading apps otherwise os will hang. Apple ***** for not informing their users also current devices come with 1GB memory and they never disclose it at any of their events going to 64bit the forgot basic concepts , they are becoming a fashion company not a technology any more.

• Pages Seizes Up When Switching Applications

I recently had to move all my computer stuff for redecoration work. Since re-assembly everything seems fine except Pages. For most of the time it's nippy and fine. When I'm running it with other apps, though, something weird seems to happen. When I switch from the other app (Safari notably) Pages just grinds to a halt. Key presses mount up in the queue, mouse movements are registered somewhere but nothing happens on the screen. After a few minutes all the events take place. If I force quit and restart it's fine until I switch to another app, then the problem recurs. Any idea what might be happening?
Blessings
Andy

Perhaps you have too many windows open. When you are browsing, a lot of desktop memory is used to switch between windows and links, and the toolbar memory. If you are done on the web, close the window. Also try the yellow button to minimise the window to the dock.Open the windows on your screen by using the dock icon. I'm new to Tiger, but have noticed that on my G3, it seems to take a moment to park the window, before opening the next when clicked to activate.Stickies got under my skin on OS 9, so I kept them turned off. Check your preferences. Perhaps they may be set to pop up periodically, or daily if you have worked past midnight. For the Finder window, If you have first opened the finder and left the window open, remember that the Mac Finder operates the desktop. Because of the 'hot zone' around your curser, you may be clicking on the hairline of desktop around the window, actvating the desktop, will give priority to the finder window, and the stickie window. If your Mac is new, call apple (during the workday ). Your Mac has a full year of Apple care included.

• Safari Pages keep reloading

For the last 2 days whenever I have more than one page open in Safari the pages start to continually reload every second making Safari unusable. This doesn't happen when just one page only is open.
After about 6 page reloads, the page becomes blank with some notice with wording like 'unable to find required page/URL'
Just wondering if anyone knows which file could be corrupt to cause this?
Any ideas would be most welcome.

It is version 5.1.7.
I also found that if I open and tab and not a window it seems to be more stable.
When 2 pages or more are open it just keeps reloading those pages.
I also have the latest webkit build but as this runs on the Safari backbone, this too has the same issues.
Trust this helps.

• Using Windows 7 and Firefox 10.0.2, at random times all home page images "disappear" when switching between web sites. Page layout on some web sites is lost. Requires removing and downloading Firefox to restore. Any ideas?

I have recently (6 months ago) purchased and use an HP Pavilion desktop with Windows 7. At times, when especially active (several windows open) and switching between windows or using links to connect with another web page, all the images on the home home page "disappear", that is to say there is space, but no image, as if the page did not load correctly. When this happens, pages other than the home page also do not display images.
Same pages display correctly in Explorer whenever this happens.

• Menu bar reloading when switching desktops

My Menu bar is reloading everytime I switch desktops.
It blinks off, then loads up each icon agin in order.
It is quite distracting.
Any ideas??
Thanks!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process ("SystemUIServer") in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

• Safari page auto loading

I previously used Internet Explorer and whenever I used the program in a password protected internet environment the initial launch page automatically honed in to the home page of the internet service provider for login and password information.
This did not happen with Safari on my Macbook pro and I could not get the program to hone into the welcome page of the service provider.
Could anyone advise on how I could tweak my settings to achieve this.

Hi,
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferencs then select the General tab. Navigate to your ISP's home page then click: Set to Current Page.
Now select Autofill from the Preferences menu. Make sure: *User names and passwords* is selected.
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left. Make sure there is a "keychain" for that site. If not, login to that site as you normally would, then click Yes when prompted which will create a keychain for you.
Not all sites will automatically login you in. It depends on their security.

• I get a message saying "Firefox has prevented this page from reloading" when I am trying to load video to Facebook which stops it from loading. I click "allow" and the message just reappears. How do I allow this function?

Message reads "Firefox prevented this page from automatically reloading".

See:
* Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

• Safari auto reload

Every time I move between tabs on safari on my ipad, the page auto reloads. How do I disable this feature. Extremely frustrating because of reload when out of wifi zone, I waste time reloading on slow 3G networks and it also increases my bandwidth consumption. Kindly help with very annoying feature

It's even worse than that.   When it reloads, if you were typing data in a form, such as the reply that I'm writing Right Now, Safari wipes out all your input and you get to start from scratch.   That means you can't switch between browser tabs to research whatever it is you are typing.
It wouldn't even be that hard.  Most such things are fairly simple HTML "forms",  all it would need to do is store the content of those "form" fields when you tab away.  So if it had to reload, it could repopulate your entered data from that.  Forms are very simple, just any number of pairs of {fieldname, fieldcontent}.  For instance the fieldname might be "Text" and the fieldcontent might be what you are reading right now.  Preserving the state of this form I am entering here would take less than 1 kilobyte (0.001 megabytes).
