Safari page is grayed out

New iPad, worked flawlessly from the start.  Now Safari page is grayed out, cannot move the displayed page, can enter web address in address bar but cannot select anyting on the page.  Ideas?  I have a feeling it's something simple.  Thanks!!

Hi,
Tap Settings / Safari. Clear the History, Cookies, and Cache
Restart your iPad. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until you see the red slider then swipe the slider to the right to power off. Then hold the Sleep/Wake button down until you see the Apple logo.
Try Safari.
If you still have problems, post in the iPad forum here.
This is the Safari for Mac forum. Takes awhile to learn how to find the new discussions forums with the new format.

My Safari screen is grayed out.  It does not respond to touch. How can I restore it back to life?

Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and slide to shut down. then hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears to start up.
You can also reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep button and home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears (takes about 10 seconds) - ignore the red slider.

  • Trying to delete pages 21-24 on iPhoto book but "remove pages" option grayed out and pressing delete button not doing anything.  Help!

Trying to delete pages 21-24 on iPhoto book but "remove pages" option grayed out and pressing delete button not doing anything.  These extra pages resulted from using Autoflow and now we can't seem to get rid of them.  Help!

    Good morning Old Toad.
    I did as you suggested:
    1) Booted from install CD.
    2) Ran Disk Utilities on internal hard drive--no repairs necessary. For good measure, did the same thing on external drive. Also no repairs necessary.
    3) Checked software update--no updates found. About this Mac said I was already running 10.4.7. For good measure, I downloaded the latest and installed it. Since it let me run the install, I'm not sure if I installed something new or reinstalled what I already had.
    4) I rebooted from CD, ran disk utilities, ran repair disk--no repairs necessary. Repaired permissions and a lot of permissions repaired.
    5) Tried to delete the files and the same old thing happened: kernel panic. The specific message:
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x00102A08): jnl: transaction too big (1587712 >= 1572352 bytes, bufsize 8192, tr 0x29f1fb0 bp 0x2801de40)
So there's no change in my status.
I'm trying to delete the files because:
    A) They already take .5 Gb.
    B) I can't get rid of them ever. If I move the problem files to a different folder, I can only do one successful drag-and-drop backup to the external drive until the "new" thumb segments become unerasable just like the previous versions and crash the system.
    C) I can't even "just" drag and drop every file/folder except the thumbs, because that ends up crashing the system as well. So I have to drag and drop every file/folder in the iPhoto hierarchy individually. Which makes me less inclined to backup, which defeats the purpose of a backup.
    D) After the iPhoto fiasco I'm just crabby about all the Apple screw-ups I'm experiencing and I want to get them fixed.
Thanks for your help. Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.

  • The textbox for setting a start page is grayed out, and I cannot change the start page.

When I go to Options form, the textbox for "Mozilla Firefox Start page" is grayed out, and unchangeable. If I navigate to a page, then set that as my start page, closing and restarting Firefox reverts back to the Firefox/Google startpage - my home page setting is not being saved.
I have tried resetting Firefox, restarting with add-ons disabled, even deleting and recreating a new profile, but it still does this.

Well, I lack the sufficient administrator privileges to uninstall the current install of Firefox, but - oddly enough - not to install a new copy to another folder.
So I installed the software, and viola - it worked!
    Thanks!

  • Since updating to 10.4.8 Safari Spell checking grayed out

Now I can not turn on Spell Checking in Safari because it is grayed out. What happened?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I found that for the spelling options to be available you must have the cursor in a text box. Then, I pressed command : to turn on spell checking. However, I had check spelling as you type checked and it unchecked it when I changed web pages. I had to reselect it.

  • Custom Paper Size in Page Setup grayed out and cannot be selected.

I am playing with the iWork '08 demo and looking at Pages. I need to create an 8.25 x 10.5 custom paper size, which I did, but when I try to select it in Page Setup, it is grayed out. If I open a document made in the previous Pages that was done using this size, it still works.
    Any thoughts?

I'm having this same problem as well. I'm trying to set up my page size to B5. I create a new custom size with B5 dimensions in the Page Setup screen but after I save it, I'm unable to select it as my page size.
    Thanks for the help.

  • "Page Properties" grayed out in Acrobat Professional XI

I create PDF fact sheets and newsletters from Adobe InDesign CS 6. I am using Acrobat Professional XI. I am tasked with making these PDFs accessible to assistive reading technology.
I carefully set up tags and reading order in InDesign, but in order to import that structure into the PDF, I need to access Page Properties in the Options menu of Page Thumbnails.  But Page Properties is grayed out. It is not accessible to me.
I checked to be sure the Acrobat Accessibility plug-in is loaded. It is not loaded.
    Need to know how to
Enable Page Properties in Acrobat Pro 11.0.9
    Load the Accessibility.api plug-in

Answer is to select all pages in the Pages thumbnail. Got it from an Adobe video on accessible PDFs from InDesign Preparing Accessible PDFs with Adobe InDesign CS5.5: Part II | Accessibility @ Adobe | Adobe TV

  • Multi page tiling grayed out?

So I'm trying to save a lot of work recombining individual pages by doing a project as 1 sheet in illustrator (CS3) and then printing it to a PDF.  But, I cannot click the Create Multi-page PDF from Page Tiles option in the General section like the instructions say to, because it is grayed out.  Is there some overarching setting that I need to reinstall, or am I missing something?
I've also tried just printing to the PDF and that just causes Illustrator to crash.
    Thanks,
    Eric

There's your problem. You only have one tile. The document is not set up for tile printing.
Page Tiling is a print setting. It tells the printer to print the document in tiles that are the size of your supposed media (the size of the sheets you ostensibly have loaded in the printer).
    Just for clarity do this:
    1. Assume you want to build a document that will export as a PDF with 16 vertical letter-size pages. File>New.
    2. In Document setup, set the height to 11" and width to 8.5". But then key in "*2" after the 11 and key in "*8" after the 8.5. Click outside the field and you'll see the Artboard size change to 22" x 68". Click OK.
    3. View>Show Page Tiling. You'll only see one page tile.
    4. File>Print>General pane. Select Adobe PDF as the "printer". Set Media size to Custom, portrait, width 8.5", height 11".
    5. Click Setup to switch to the Setup pane. Select Tile Full Pages from the Tiling popup. Click Done.
You'll now see a 22" x 68" Artboard with 16 numbered Page Tiles. If you Save A Copy as PDF, you'll have the option to Save Tiles as Separate Pages.

    Hello,
OK....when I go into the pages panel, there is a flyout menu that says Pages Size info....yet everything is grayed out...No matter what or how I choose the pages, it is grayed out...How do you get this to activate?

There is no such item in Pages panels menu usually... Do you have some plugin installed and expired?

  • When I open a web page, the page is grayed out.

When I open a web page, the page opens, but is completely grayed out and does not respond to touch.  When I touch the icon that inidicates the number of open web pages (from previous visits), it does not respond.  What is the problem?   It was working yesterday, and my internet connection is fine.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X - Pages options grayed out on PDFs with digital signatures

When we apply a signature to a PDF in Acrobat Pro X, it disables all the options (e.g., rotate, delete, replace, etc.) except for "Extract". This was not an issue with Acrobat v8. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

That's because all of the operations you mentioned that are disabled, if run, would invalidate the signature. The bug was in version 8 in that we should never allowed the user to modify the signed bytes and break the signature.

  • Safari screen is grayed out, only thing I can type is control bar

What should I do to be able to control screen again?

    Hi Brian,
Try restarting your device. Hold down the sleep wake button, then slide to power off.
If this doesn't work, then run a reset. Hold down both the shome button, and the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • Problems with safari screen grayed out unable to load pages from search

Using IPAD last night and did a google search and google suggestions dialog box remains open along with keyboard, does not allow me to select any search results as the page is grayed out. When I try to select a new page, bookmarks of the back arrow I get NO RESPONSE. Thought the IPAD I charged it last night with same results this AM. Any suggestions!

Some websites do this but I have found that the iPad is not frozen, it's just the way the website is (poorly) designed and you just need to scroll ALL THE WAY UP to see the page results. Verizon is one such culprit with their site. Try it, I bet it works

  • How do I view content in Design view once everything is grayed out?

I was building a web site.   When I switched from horizontal view to vertical view I was no longer able to view content in design view. The entire page was grayed out.  I'm also not able to view content in design view in other web sites too. How do I fix it?

Well, yes the rest of the phone works, but the sole reason I got it was to able to view these files.  I had a Blackberry and I wanted a bigger screen.  Work allowed me to choose the iPhone or the latest Galaxy phone.  I chose the iPhone because I was told "it just works".
I know the Galaxy reads the .txt files because coworkers have it.  If the iPhone wont allow me to read the file then it doesn't matter if "it just works" because it can't do what I need it to do.

  • ITunes App section grayed out?

When I connect my iPod Touch to iTunes the entire "Apps" page is grayed out for some reason. The other pages are ok. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

I had this problem, too, with a 1st gen iPod touch that I was cleaning off to give to my daughter.  Turned out that I had restricted addition of apps in the restrictions settings on the iPod touch.  When I turned "on" allowing apps to be added, the Apps page wasn't grayed out anymore.
