Safari Pages and Mail cannot be seen after awaking from sleep

If I leave Safari or Mail open, all of a sudden now when I come back and wake the computer from sleep, the programs are open, but the pages or mailboxes cannot be seen. New pages do not open. All that is seen is the menu bar, which seems to operate normally, but no inboxes or pages appear. I have to shut the computer down to get it to work again.
Any thoughts?

More info:
It seems to be the screen going to sleep, not the computer. When I come back and touch the mouse or the keyboard, as the screen lights up, there is a flash of the web pages I left up, then they vanish.
Yikes!!!

  • Cannot login after awaking from sleep (login screensaver sleep problem)

After awaking from sleep or returning from the screensaver, the "loginwindow" of system.login.screensaver (visible after checking "details") does not recoginze the correct password. It is not possible to login this way anymore.
    Very annoying!
Fortunately, I found a workaround using the functionality to switch users. The standard OS X welcome screen recognizes my password.
Anyone experiencing the same or with a way to correct the initial problem?
PS: the user account in question is a "network user"; it works as expected for a local user

Same here on an older iMac since Lion. Thanks for the uncheck wake for network access tip though, it doesn't do it either in that case, I will leave it that way.

  • Ping and ssh don't work after waking from sleep

    Hi!
I have been running Arch on my 2010 Macbook since May and there's always been this one annoyance which I can't figure out: after it is woken from sleep, the wireless (using netctl) happily reconnects and I can browse, check email, run pacman, do dns lookups---everything, it seems, apart from ssh or ping.  Both ping and ssh seem to hang.  If I reboot or restart [email protected], then they both work.
    Running :
    $ ssh XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
    connect(3, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(22), sin_addr=inet_addr("XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX")}, 16
where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is my work computer. (Full strace: http://pastie.org/private/xhmee0oltrnx3qmblnzq)
Running strace ping google.com (as root) gives the repeated lines:
    $ strace ping google.com
    sendmsg(3, {msg_name(16)={sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(0), sin_addr=inet_addr("173.194.34.102")}, msg_iov(1)=[{"\10\0\270\345b\325\0\2\336\36QR\0\0\0\0\353\376\2\0\0\0\0\0\20\21\22\23\24\25\26\27"..., 64}], msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = 64
    recvmsg(3, 0x7fff2f6d6f90, 0) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable)
    (Full strace: http://pastie.org/private/bfygaqtccz0ms2w8hqea4g)
I can, however, sucessfully ping my router and other devices connected to it.  I have not been able to find out anything relevant that might fix this. I've checked the MTU settings match those on the router and my other laptop running Arch does not have this problem.
Any suggestions on how to debug this further?
    Thanks!

I have several mid-2009 8-core Mac Pro's, all running Snow Leopard, and all have been having this problem as well.
I will not guarantee this is going to work for anyone else....but we have found a (slightly inelegant) workaround for it that has been working for several weeks now without fail.
Prior to putting your MacPro to sleep, run the volume all the way up and leave it there. Afterwards, put it to sleep as usual. We use the keyboard to do this, but I would imagine any method should have the same affect. However, I've not experimented.
Anyway...this has worked 100% of the time for us. The only downside of it is that you have to remember to run it up before....and then back down after waking (else that first alert sound or music file you play will really wake YOU up!)
If this works for anyone else, let me know.
Apple should never have let this one out the door with this bug. Especially, as Apple Support is....wanting, at best.

  • 5G iPod wont play after awaking from sleep

Im not sure why but all the previous posts for this very same problem have been archived without answers. When my ipod is left to go to sleep on its own, after its woken from sleep mode it wont play - even though the default pause icon changes to the play arrow the counter never starts and no audio is heard. I must turn it off and then on again to begin playing. If I turn it off ( hold play button ) instead of ever letting it go to sleep it works perfect every time. I see many others posting for the same issue in the past - I smell Firmware Upgrade !!!
Anyone found any other possible fix?
    Thx - Mike

I see helpful answers as 2 and solved answers as 1, but I dont see where those answers are, however, I think your G5 has the same problem I do. For some reason it takes a LOT of smackin me around in the morning to wake me up. I've had this problem for years, and I still don't have a solution.
Seriously, the problem will take some troubleshooting, but do you have any "other" enhancements in your system preferences or other apps loaded that might have an option to put your computer to sleep? if so, you may have a setting there that is putting your mac to sleep immediately after waking it. Also, try going to the system preferences and selecting "never" for putting the computer to sleep, then go to your "Apple" icon and manually put your mac to sleep (first option above restart) and then move your mouse or try some keys to wake it up and see if it stays awake. If the mac stays awake, then I would say this leads me to believe its your system preferences giving you the conflict.

  • NAS Shares disconnect after awaking from sleep

I have been searching and searching for a solution to this frustrating problem.
Every time my laptop goes to sleep the SMB shares from my NAS become unresponsive. The only way to fix the problem is to reset my computer. Obviously this is a problem.
I once found a program that I thought my have worked that automounted the share but deleted out of stupidity and can't find it. I have added the shared to my login account and that works at startup but not when I wake the computer up from sleep. Please help this is frustrating!
I should add that the NAS is a HP MediaSmart 487

  • OS 10.4x - PB Locks up after awakeing from sleep

Just as it saids. I upgraded to 10.4.3 and now when I put my PB to sleep and locks up. I seems that my BT will not work and I can't close and programs. The only thing I can do is a force quit and restart and works fine then. Anybody have this problem with there PB. Oh it's the 1.25ghz. And the other odd thing is my iBook has no problems like this but this model does not hve the BT feature although
    _

Basically I'm having all kinds of issues since I bought this laptop a week ago. One of which is a system lockup during sleep mode. It's happened to me twice in the last two days. I leave the machine for 10 minutes, come back and when I try to awaken it I have the "have to restart" error. Totally blows. I dont think I ever had a system lockup in the three years I ran my old G4 1gig laptop.
I also have periodic audio stuttering which seems to be just me and one other guy on this forum. The music plays fine, and then all of a sudden layers the same 1 second of audio on top of each other over and over for about 3 or 4 seconds.
I also get kicked off the internet periodically and my mouse starts wigging out. It gets better when I shut off airport. But then I lose out on the internet.
Apple what is going on? I call your support line and I swear they know less than I do. I am truly disappointed.

  • ICal and Mail don't work after downgrade from Lion to Snow Leopard

Hey everyone, after an extremely awful time with with Lion (it knocked out of my audio interface AND my wireless) I downgraded back to Snow Leopard yesterday. I made a Carbon Copy of my Lion drive with all my data on an external drive (which I still have) and after wiping my local drive clean I reinstalled Snow Leopard from my disk. After it was done I chose to transfer data from another system local system (I selected everything) and an hour and a half later everything was transferred over. After doing a software update, I've found that I get big error messages with iCal, Mail, and even the App Store that say they can't open and I'm assuming that it has to do with incompatible data that got transferred from Lion. Any ideas on how to get those programs back up and running?? Thanks so much for you help!

Indeed the USB issue seems to be related to missing drivers.
You have to install this USB 3.0 driver:
    [AMD USB Driver v 2.0.7.176 Windows 7 - 64 Bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=178&selProduct=7534&selSh ortMod=null&language=13&selOS=30&selType=all&yearu pload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=a llMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=al l&selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=3&ID=87792&OSI D=30&driverLanguage=42]
Furthermore you have to ensure that chipset driver was installed too.
The notebook supports ATI graphic chip and AMD chipset. The chipset driver is part of the ATI graphic card driver and therefore you should ensure that this driver would be installed too.

  • Mail won't connect after waking from sleep

5K display iMac running Yosemite 10.2.2: When I first boot my iMac mail works perfectly as does the rest of my internet connection. I am using Ethernet directly connected to the router, but the same thing will happen if I use the wifi connection. Router is directly connected to the cable modem.
If I put the iMac to sleep and come back the next morning: I will see new messages available in my gmail and other accounts that have loaded during the night. If I hit the "get new messages" button, sometimes it will get the initial group of messages (IMAP) and move them into the POP gmail account, but most of the time mail will just fail to make a connection. The connection doctor will tell me that I'm not connecting to the internet. However, if I go to Safari or any other internet app, I have no trouble connecting.
Then, somewhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours after waking the iMac it magically connects - until the next time I put the iMac to sleep. Quitting and restarting Mail makes no difference. I have already deleted Sophos and anything else that others seemed to suggest would cause a problem. I have no trouble seeing anything in the mbox messages stored on the iMac. I just can't send or receive mail until it comes back to life.
    Suggestions are gratefully appreciated.

I don't yet have Q2007, waiting for first patch to show up, but I would look for a conflict with other programs or background processes, lack of RAM, or whether you migrated some PPC application or libraries.
I see that Quicken 2006 got an update Sept. 9th.
One of the fixes in the Q2006 R5 patch:
Stability improvements were made to prevent Quicken from quitting unexpectedly when launching with certain internal files corrupted.
    I would reinstall Quicken.
    Rosetta:
I know it runs PPC, but if someone didn't tell me that PPC apps run under Rosetta, I would not know it was there (it isn't a listed process, and you can't choose whether to use Rosetta or not, like choosing between Preview and Acrobat). Only because under Get Info: Kind: Application (PPC) - and you would have to know that equates to Rosetta.
So you're sure it is working fine in Rosetta... I read 10.4.8 is suppose to improve Rosetta...
The best way to improve Rosetta is to have 2GB RAM.

  • Cannot find networks after wake from sleep

I cannot find anyone else posting with this exact issue. Ever since the 10.5.8 update, my 13" MB Pro will not see any of the 10 wireless networks around my place. If I turn the Airport connection off and on again, it seems them and immediately connects to my network as well. Yes, I've zapped the PRAM.
Anyone have any experience with this exact issue?

I'm having, I think, the exact same issue. Since installing Snow Leopard, my internet connection is fine while the computer is awake. However, every time I return from shutdown/sleep or restart, I get the message stating "Your chosen network is not available, please choose another" (or whatever the actual wording is). So I click on the network icon and sure enough, my network is in the list, but I have to click and type my password every time. I've been looking into forums and suggested fixes; so far, to no avail.

  • My iPad loses it's ability to connect to the internet after awaking from sleep mode. Needs to be rebooted to reconnect.

My iPad loses it's ability to reconnect to the wifi after sleep mode often times, but not always. It is very annoying because it requires a reboot to reconnect. It is running the latest iOS software update. I have also reset network settings to the factory defaults. My wifi is working fine, and all other devices in my house have no issues at all.

Well, I think I have finally come up with a solution. It seems this issue happens when it auto locks. I turned auto lock to "never" in settings, and the issue has not happened since. Seems there may be a bug in this feature???
I now use manual lock, and upon awakening the wifi is now fully working.

  • Locking-up after awaking from sleep

I have a Dual 1.8 G5 PowerMac running 10.4.6. After about 5-7 times being put to sleep it locksup trying to wake up. All I get is my desktop with icons but no mouse and no response. The only thng i can do is hard boot with the power button. What could cause this?

    Dear Matthew,
The issue is a sleep issue which can be a hardware related or software relate. You need to inform me if the sleep crash happens when you evoke it from the apple menu or auto sleep function (both functions through operating system) or when you press the power button to evoke sleep (this functions direct through hardware).I am possiably thinking this is due to the software as you must be doing it through the operating system.
There is also a firmware update associated for this issue for single 1.8 GHz processor http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302212
HOWEVER I did observe that your unit is a dual processor.
As to troubleshoot this issue if this is a software related issue you will have to drag a file called Energysaver.plist on to the desktop. The Location of this file is under :
    HDD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration folder > Energysaver.plist
Once you have dragged this file to the desktop restart the unit and check.
If this is a hardware related then try to reset the PMU and repair the RAM and check.
    Hope this information is helpful.
    Good Day !
    Ravi Dimri.

  • Strange Graphics issue on switching users after awaking from sleep

As the title says... Here's the scenario:
I logon to my MBP, do some work, then put it to sleep.
My girlfriend comes along, and opens up the MBP. My logon details are presented to her, so she presses "Switch User".
When she does this, the MBP goes really funky. Loads of strange colors, some small areas of my logged in desktop appear, then loads of white cubes appear.
    See:
    http://www.rock-sound.net/stevetemp/stage1.jpg
    http://www.rock-sound.net/stevetemp/stage2.jpg
Can anyone else confirm this happens on their MBP ? Otherwise Genius Bar here I come..

This happened on my iMac G5 and had the logic board and display replaced to no avail. Only happened when switching users.
Not happening on my MacBook Pro ... so far....and hope it stays like that.
Someone also said it might be to do with bad capacitors.

For anyone who wants to find the right Apple Mac screen that does not flicker, good Luck! The early Mac Books Pro's, had some screens made by two different manufactures.
Go into Terminal on your Mac. If the code
starts with "LP" you have an LG screen
if they start with "LSN" you have a samsung screen.
LG seems to be the problem? Samsung was so much better. Well for me anyway.  Cant use modern macs and old macs......only a 2008 so far!
Try filming the screens on a slow shutter speed and watch the flicker, they all move at different speeds.
Some early ones don't really show up! : )  ( Samsung screen )
    Ref below.
I look forward to Apple admitting the problem and fixing it.....Flicker free please.
