Safari pdf controls

Safari automatically puts pdfs onto a Safari page.  I can't adjust the size of the page or print.  Help says that I can access a toolbar for that by put the curser at the bottom of the page, but that doesn't work.  What can I do?

Try right or control clicking the window then click Open with...
You should be able to click File > Print from the Safari menu bar.

  • Pdf control in Safari 3.0.4

    Hi, guys
I am using Leopard 10.5.2 and Safari 3.0.4.
For some reason, the pdf control in Safari specifically download button is not working.
I haven't installed acrobat reader. Everytime i need to dowload pdf files, i should open them in preview and use save as...
    any help?
    thanks in advance.

Normally whenever you enter a username and password into a site on Safari it automatically prompts to save the login details. If you need to set Safari up to save username and password info go to Safari-Preferences-Autofill-And then select the 'Usernames and passwords' checkbox.
If you want to see what passwords have already been saved by Safari then go to Safari-Preferences-Autofill and then select the 'Edit...' box.
Ahh! Just realised that you're using an earlier version of Safari. Hope there isn't too much difference between my version and yours!

  • Safari PDF viewer

I download a lot of pdfs. But I don't want to view them in the pdf viewer contained within Safari. Is there any way to turn off the safari pdf viewer so that when I click on a link to download the pdf, it will download it to the folder that I specified?
    thanks, Anthony

What I forgot to mention is that control-click does not work. These pdfs are from science journals that are liscenced to the institution I am at. When I control click it, it downloads something that has the extension .htm and when I click on this, it takes me directly to the web page to view the pdf in the viewer. I just don't like the hasel of opening the pdf in the viewer then saving the pdf to a folder on my computer. Before the viewer was installed in Safari, I used just click on the link and it would download it to wherever I wanted. I was just hoping there was some way to turn "off" the pdf viewer.
    thanks, Anthony

  • How to remove quicktime as safari pdf reader

Running 10.6.8 and recently updated Safari to 5.1.7.  PDFs load in Safari via Quicktime and only show the first page, with no ability to zoom.  How can I reset Preview as my Safari pdf reader?

Right or control click a PDF file you have stored on the hard drive then click Get Info
Click the pop up menu next to:  Open with
    Select Preview
    Then click:  Change All

  • Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

  • Acrobat hijacked Safari PDF's

All PDF's are shown by the Acrobat Reader plug-in. There is a preference in Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 (Prefs/Internet/Dispay PDF is browser using). Unchecking this does NOT stick. Next time I open Acrobat or even enter Preferences, the checkbox is set again. Is there a way to stop Acrobat from taking over Safari PDF's?
    best regards
    Lars

    Lars,
    Quit Safari.
Find and remove the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and archive it into a different folder. It will be located in either: Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins or ~Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
    Restart Safari.

  • Safari pdf does not open

safari pdf files does not open

In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin

  • Adobe PDF writer has taken over my computer for documents, how do I change it back to Safari PDF ?

How do I change back to Safari PDF viewer and get rid of Adobe?

Find a PDF file in the Finder, select it and go File > Get Info. Find the Open With section and change the application from Adobe Reader (?) to whatever other PDF viewing app you prefer (Safari.app?). Click on the button that activates in that section (Change All...) and say Yes to making every PDF open with the new option your choose.
In my opinion, viewing PDFs posted on websites in Safari is fine, but viewing PDFs downloaded or that reside on your iMac are better suited to being viewed using Adobe Reader (though you might not be used to what it does), or Preview. You should explore what they have to offer.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1338 I can't final close Safari with control Q. It just open next time on the closed page.

I can't final close Safari with control Q. It just open next time on the closed page.

To prevent Safari opening your last closed pages again you can do one of three things.
    1. Close the pages before closing Safari (eg. open homepage before closing Safari)
    2. Hold Shift while opening Safari (this will start Safari from homepage)
    3. Browse in 'Private Browsing'.

  • Safari Parental Controls

Hey Folks - could use some help here... I can't seem to find anyone with the same problem.
I've created a restricted account for my son and understand I must login as him to create bookmarks in his safari browser to websites that I will allow him to visit.
The problem is when I open the browser & try to add a site by entering my admin username & password - nothing happens. Also, when I try to open his bookmarks & type in my admin name & password - it doens't do a thing... but if I hit cancel instead of trying to login - it opens the bookmarks window but I still can't add sites.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thanks so much in advance.
    Mike
P.S. I've tried creating a new account & also got rid of all safari preferences & settings.

    Mike,
This is, in my opinion, quite a significant problem with Safari 4 on Mac OS X 10.4.
I handle IT for a school over here in Scotland. The problem with Safari Parental Controls appeared yesterday (Friday). I spent the whole day working on it with no result at all. However, i have some facts about it that i have passed on to Apple for further investigation.
The issue affects both PPC and Intel versions of 10.4.11. it does NOT affect 10.5.7.
I confirmed my results on 10 different Macs. Test the following for me and post results...
    1. Create a new user on your Mac. Make that user a Managed one.
    2. Enable the Safari Parental Controls.
    3. Log in to the account you have just created.
    4. Try to visit a site that is not in the bookmarks.
    5. Instead of typing in Admin credentials, when prompted, simply click Cancel.
    What happens?
    6. Now, try it again with proper admin credentials entered and click on OK
    What happens?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why does the Safari PDF viewer plugin show up in mission control?

Whenever I swipe to activate mission control the PDF viewer plugin of Safari shows. This obviously doesn't happen if I do not have a tab with a PDF active in the browser, but why does it show anyway? I have tested Firefox and Chrome and their PDF plugins do not show in the mission control view, so why does Safari's? How can I get rid of this? It makes loading expose' view a little choppy (compared to when I dont have to use a PDF in Safari) and looks weird. I have attached an image of how this looks.

deleting the adobe plugins in Library worked for me:

  • Opening Safari PDFs in Acrobat

I used to have Safari set to open PDFs in Acrobat. Since updating Safari (5.1) and Lion, all PDFs in Safari open in a new Safari tab.
I used to click on a link to a PDF in Safari, the document would automatically download to my mac, and automatically open in Acrobat. (Not right click or control click, just a regular click on the link.) Since I've upgraded to Safari 5.1 & Lion, a link to a PDF in Safari opens another tab in Safari and the PDF appears there.
I don't want the PDF in a Safari tab; I want the PDF to download and open directly in Acrobat like it used to. I know there was a setting I originally had to change for this behavior. But, I can't remember where the setting was and I can't find anything in Safari preferences or System preferences related to this.
It's possible that this option changed with Safari 5.1 and/or Lion andnow PDFs online only open in Safari, but I don't know; that's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm not using Acrobat Reader, I have a full version of Acrobat. I also checked in /Library/Internet Plug-ins and I don't have either a PDF Browser Plug-in or an Adobe plug in, so those shouldn't be causing the problem.
    Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Sheri

    Hi Sheri
Safari 5.1 now natively supports PDF files, rather than depending upon plug ins from Adobe.  Opening PDFs within the browser is also now Safari's default and currently only way of displaying PDFs.  In the past, you could use tools like TinkerTool or Cocktail to amend this behaviour, but they don't currently appear to work with Safari 5.1.
So you have a choice.  Click on a link to display a PDF in the browser.  With the PDF visible, move your mouse towards the bottom the browser window.  As you get close to the bottom a grey box will appear with 4 options: Zoom in, Zoom out, Display in Preview, Download.  I'll leave you to guess which one will download the PDF for you.
The other option available to you is to right-click on a PDF link and select Download linked file from the menu that appears.
I reckon we just need to wait for Adobe and others to update their plug-ins to reinstate the automatic download of PDFs.

  • Frustration with Safari pdf plugins

I've tried both Shubert and Adobe Reader PDF plugins and find they are both terrible. What I find most annoying is that I can't seem to accurately control scolling. The slightist slide of my finger seems to send the document jumping, often pages at a time.
Any thoughts? At this point, I'm tempted just to uninstall the Reader plugin and just use PDF PenPro.
    Thanks

    Preview works fine for me.
I used to use PDF pen pro, and at one time I've tried all the PDF addon things, but I haven't bothered with them in a while. Preview does a good job of annotating pdfs these days.
I'm an apple fundamentalist. If there's some PDF function I can't do natively with Safari and Preview, I probably don't need it in the first place.

  • Suspicious Safari/PDF behavior

    Hello all.
I'm doing some research on international export controls and part of it has included information on the Wassenaar Arrangement (an international treaty organization). After requesting a specific pdf from the site, I got the message "Safari wants to change the font to "Symbol" on WINDOWS HD. (My aptly named Windows partition.) Since I was running in OS X and have not used my Windows partition in months, this has gotten me a little suspicious. Has anyone else run into this phenomenon? If it is a virus attack vector, are there any gurus out there interested in helping me learn a little more about it?
The offending pdf can be found at:
    http://www.wassenaar.org/controllists/2008/WA-LIST%20%2808%29%201/WA-LIST%20%280 8%29%201.pdf

    Hi Sean
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The PDF loaded fine for me. I'm using Adobe Acrobat as my PDF reader. You are probably using Apple's Preview.
Did you create your Windows Partition via Apple's Boot Camp. I too have a partition, however, it was created from Parallels. If Boot Camp, may be some oddity with parameters set up in your system. In any event I don't see anything malicious about the PDF file, i.e. loads like any other PDF file.
