Safari PDF problems

Safari 6.0.2 will not dispIay download or print most linked pdf files on webpages.
I know this has been addressed before, I have followed all the instructions and advice I could find on this forum but to no avail.
I have removed every adobe component from my imac including applications pref files etc etc.
I have deleted the quicktime pref files as advised.
I am now in the process of downloading Chrome in the hope that this will work.
If anyone has a link to a complete step by step guide to correct this issue I would be most grateful. Maybe I have missed an important step.
This is not the behaviour we have come to expect from Apple products (it just works). I am reasonably advanced as a user and cannot seem to crack this.

Select Help ▹ Installed Plug-ins from the Safari menu bar. Besides the following, what plugins are listed?
iPhotoPhotocast
Java
QuickTime
Shockwave Flash
WebKit built-in PDF

  • IPad safari PDF problems

When opening PDF files in safari, if the size is too big, only what is viewable on iPad is shown. When scrolling down, it's all blank.
The option to open it in iBook which should resolve this problem is also no longer available.
I have done a reset but the problem is still there. Any solution?

  • Windows version of Safari, PDF Problems

    Hi out there,
I am having major problems with Safari in Windows ( not my choice to have to use Windows, but my choice to use Safari, Mac user at home ).
Anyway I cannot get Safari to Open/Read PDF's and it is really becoming a pain in the backside.
All I see is a little message on the screen telling me that there is a Plug-in missing, yet I have Adobe Reader 11 installed, followed advice by others on this subjet and still no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas please.
What should my Setting be !   Preferences any thing.
    Regards
    Steve ( UK )

Many thanks BTF, I even have Lunascape6 and that works. I just wonder why, if in deed it is a Safari issue, why Apple don't fix it. Shame really.
    Thanks  again

  • Safari PDF Problem

    Hi everyone,
I am currently experiencing difficulties downloading PDF documents on my Mac using Safari. Currently, it shows me a black screen but it is not downloading the document. I tried it on my work's laptop and it is fine. Therefore, the problem is with Safari.
Any ideas to fix this problem?
    Thank you

Thank you for this information. However, this did not resolve the problem.
When I type Internet Plug-ins in finder it shows it's clear. But when I try to download PDF documents it stays black. I have tried to reset Safari but still no luck.
    Any other ideas?
Am I typing this in finder? Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    Thanks

  • Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

  • PDF problem part 2...

I guess a lot of people are having pdf problems.
When I export a pdf of a Travel Journal doc and view with adobe reader 7.0, the borders on the photos are not there.
What is the word on this?
As you can see I don't have Tiger /PDF-X.
    Thanks

Not certain if this is quite the same thing, but.......
I have found problems when exporting to pdf, not when I open in Preview but when the person I am emailing the file to opens it in Acrobat, as all drop shadows are then lost, this makes professional printing difficult.
Resolved it for the moment by:
    1. exporting to pdf as normal
    2. using Graphic Converter which comes bundled with OSX to create a PSD file and sending that electronically. Slight problem was that the size of the file increased from 3mb to about 27mb, so had to download a free copy of Cyberduck ftp programme too. In fact saving it to jpeg was just about as good.
    3. you do have to do one page at a time but it works.

  • Acrobat hijacked Safari PDF's

All PDF's are shown by the Acrobat Reader plug-in. There is a preference in Acrobat Reader 7.0.5 (Prefs/Internet/Dispay PDF is browser using). Unchecking this does NOT stick. Next time I open Acrobat or even enter Preferences, the checkbox is set again. Is there a way to stop Acrobat from taking over Safari PDF's?
    best regards
    Lars

    Lars,
    Quit Safari.
Find and remove the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and archive it into a different folder. It will be located in either: Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins or ~Library/Internet Plug-Ins.
    Restart Safari.
    ;~)

safari pdf files does not open

In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
If a Finder window open with that item selected, delete it, then quit and relaunch Safari. Otherwise post again.

  • Adobe PDF writer has taken over my computer for documents, how do I change it back to Safari PDF ?

How do I change back to Safari PDF viewer and get rid of Adobe?

Find a PDF file in the Finder, select it and go File > Get Info. Find the Open With section and change the application from Adobe Reader (?) to whatever other PDF viewing app you prefer (Safari.app?). Click on the button that activates in that section (Change All...) and say Yes to making every PDF open with the new option your choose.
In my opinion, viewing PDFs posted on websites in Safari is fine, but viewing PDFs downloaded or that reside on your iMac are better suited to being viewed using Adobe Reader (though you might not be used to what it does), or Preview. You should explore what they have to offer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Safari PDF viewer

I download a lot of pdfs. But I don't want to view them in the pdf viewer contained within Safari. Is there any way to turn off the safari pdf viewer so that when I click on a link to download the pdf, it will download it to the folder that I specified?
    thanks, Anthony

What I forgot to mention is that control-click does not work. These pdfs are from science journals that are liscenced to the institution I am at. When I control click it, it downloads something that has the extension .htm and when I click on this, it takes me directly to the web page to view the pdf in the viewer. I just don't like the hasel of opening the pdf in the viewer then saving the pdf to a folder on my computer. Before the viewer was installed in Safari, I used just click on the link and it would download it to wherever I wanted. I was just hoping there was some way to turn "off" the pdf viewer.
    thanks, Anthony

Safari Crash - Problem with doodle (planer) app  -  doodle web links cause safari to crash with a very strange message "Error - Please make sure Safari is not used in Private Modus" (translated from german) No Privat Modus buttom in ios 7 safari settings! Works fine with an older Safari Version. Web link, call doodle app.  You could see the website in the backround working but safari crashes after clicking on the error window.   Any suggestions?

  • Safari & JavaScript Problems

On some websites, I cannot use scripted buttons etc. This is true in all browsers (Safari, Firefox, IE, etc.). I have no problems with my Windows machine. Is there a setting I can change or an add-in that might let me use these sites? I'm not getting any errors in Java, so I'm assuming it's a compatability issue between OSX and the Java being used. Any help would be appreciated because I now have to use my PC to access certain sites (and I have to use them for work).

This is from my similar Safari problems a few months back. It may apply to your Java problems.
I confirmed that it's my Tiger Safari failure to handle Java Applets that is giving me troubles. Java scripts are OK.
Relief, my Safari Java problem is solved. I got the clue to the cause in an Apple discussion, a chap in Germany using Panther had the identical problem.
The problem was caused by older Internet Plugins contained in my UserID>Library>Internet Plugins.
These plugins take priority over the Internet Plugins contained in HD>Library>Internet Plugins.
So removing the duplicate older Internet Plugins from UserID>Library>Internet Plugins corrected the Java applet problem. I had more duplicate Plugins there than the Java ones.
This happened because when doing a clean install I selected to copy over my UserID from the previous Jaguar system, a logical thing to do to carry my files and settings forward.
But bringing forward the Internet Plugin Folder is obviously a big problem for those bringing forward their UserID when installing MacOS X.
Here is a very good site to test your browsers handling of Java Scripts and Applets.

  • Safari/DSL Problem

    Safari/DSL Problem
I’m having a problem with my home DSL network when I hookup a 5.8 GHz digital cordless phone/answering system. Safari will not pull up my home page when I plug in the answering system my SBC DSL network stops functioning. My Mac network consists of an E-Mac running OS 10.3.9 hard wired thru Ethernet cable to an Asante FR1004 Internet router. Also connected to the Asante Router is the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. The Asante Router is hooked up to the SBC to Speedstream 5100 Ethernet ADSL Modem, which is hard wired to the phone line. I have 3 phones hooked to the phone line each phone has a DSL Filter model Z-330P2J. Any would be appreciated.

Hi ccrushe, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
1] The answering system must have a DSL Filter on it.
2] Move the answering system to a different room, ie, away from the computer.
Try BBR, Broadband Reports / SBC general Forum, or ATM = All Things Mac.
    Good Luck. JP
