Safari Plugins?
Are there plugins available for Safari. I was trying to watch CSI on the CBS website, and a notice came up saying that Safari was missing the necessary plugins.
Any help please.
Mike.
Go to the Innertube page and click on "Help" there it explains:
What are the minimum system requirements for running innertube?
For optimal viewing experience the system requirements are:
MAC
Processor: Macintosh G5
Internal Memory: 512 MB RAM
Operating System: OSX
Browser/Media Player: Firefox 1.0 Real Player Plus
Flash Player: Macromedia Flash 8
In which browsers can I view innertube videos?
PC
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.5
MAC
Firefox 1.5, Safari (with Real Player)
Can I view innertube videos on my Macintosh Computer?
Yes!
IMO, it is never a good sign when they do not know how to spell "Mac"
EDIT: I'd download Firefox, if you don't have it already. Excellent browser and no plug-ins necessary.

How to install Safari Plugin?
I downloaded a Safari plugin called XML View Plugin.webplugin and have
no idea where it should be placed to work in Safari 5.
It did not come with an installer and I have not found Safari Plugin folder.
aRKayHi Meera
safari from 10.7 on doesn't support webplugin types, if that's what you're using
you might look for a suitable extension
or a more up to date plug-in -
Shockwave Flash
Shockwave Flash 10.3 r181 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”.
Shockwave for Director
Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.6.0 — from file “DirectorShockwave.plugin”.
I'm wondering if it is how Safari does not list the entire version in it's plugin page, such as 11.6.0 instead of 11.6.0.r.626.
Also I have Looked in the plugins file for Safari and turned on the extension to show invisible extensions and it shows this:
DirectorShockwave.plugin 11.6.0r626
Flash Player.plugin 10.3 r181.34
I have also uninstalled and reinstalled just to see if that was the problem. When you run the plugin check, you should get a column with the full version number (here's Flash, for example, in the attached screen shot).
As for finding Safari plugins, I don't know how it works on MacOS; on Windows, Firefox will scan certain locations outside of its folders to pick up plugins that are not Firefox-specific. The plugin checker then will use the information that Firefox has gathered. -
Safari plugins occupy a lot of CPU
Hi,
Since I have upgraded to snow leopard, safari plugins (flash) occupy a lot of CPU and the fans work like crazy.
Whenever I have loaded a web page with many graphics, or listen to web-radio, after a while my CPU is maxed out.
Any ideas?
Cheers.

Dylib and Safari plugin on OS X
Hello,
I'm building a Cocoa based Safari plugin and need to link against a dylib supplied by a vendor. I am able to successfully link / build the plugin but can not get Safari to find the dylib. I added a copy task to put the dylib into the executable folder but this didn't work.
Is it possible to use a dylib with a plugin? If so, can someone tell me how? How can I get xcode to know about this dylib too?
Thanks in advance.I solved the problem of debugging the plugin in xcode. The solution was to add DYLDLIBRARYPATH to the executable environment.
- Select your executable in xcode in the "Executables" folder
- "get info"
- Select the "Arguments" tab.
- Add the environment variable DYLDLIBRARYPATH to the environment section specifying the path to your dylib.
- Debug away. -
Safari Plugins missing in Tiger?
I upgraded to Tiger from Jaguar and in the process Safari was upgraded to 2.0.2. However, I now keep running into sites that I could navigate before with no problem in Jaguar that say plugins are now missing. Real Player, flash etc. are gone. This is like the old days when one had to troll the web in search of all the plugins to standard media. When Safari first came on line, I never had to think about it, the standard plugins were there. I don't have time right now to start looking around (holiday chaos!). Is there one place where I can find all the standard plugins I need or do I need to reinstall Safari?
Did Apple drop the ball on this one or is it me? Thanks for any help or comment! This discussion site rocks!
Titanium PB 500mhz Mac OS X (10.4.3) 1GB RAM 40GB HDHi CyberFinch,
The only plugin I recall Tiger coming with is an older version of the Flash plugin.
The other plugins are fairly easy to find though:
RealPlayer
Windows Media Player
Latest Flash plugin
Hope that helps. -
How do I reset Preview Safari plugin

Safari in Snow Leopard is supposed to run plugins in their own process, like Flash Player. For me, however, this is not working; it's simply running in the Safari process. The difference is that I'm not getting the whole "crash resistance" thing they claim. Safari will crash completely for me instead of just Flash.
Why wouldn't mine be separating Flash into its own process?
Edit: I did an update install from Leopard 10.5.8.

Note, this will prohibit your ability to run any "hack" plug-ins, like Saft, SafariStand, 1Password, etc. -
Adobe reader safari plugin error
Hi guys, I am not really sure what's going on but I had the same issue with my previous macbook. For some reason when I open up pdfs in safari a new window opens up when I expose all windows. (See picture)
Is there anyway to get rid of this? Do I have an error with my plugin? Can I go back to using preview (in safari)?
Thanks!Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -
RealPlayer Safari plugin won't work on Intel core duo iMac 20"
Real Player Safari plug in won't work on Intel coreduo iMac 20" to either listen to audi or to play video and I don't know whether it is a Safari issue, Rosetta issue, RealPlayer issue or all of the above. I am also concerned about asking Safari to run under Rosetta becasue this seems to defeat the point of getting the latest machine. Does anyone know what the problem is and the likely timescales for a fix? Thanks. John
PS. I am able to access the resources I want using stand alone RealPlayer and Firefox.

1.25GHz iMac flat panel round bottom Mac OS X (10.4.6)Hello, this happens because Power-PC-plugins usually can't cooperate with Intel-coded programs. I've experienced the same mess with the famous GraphicConverter and TWAIN plugins from Epson. Until Real will not offer Universal-coded plugins, you have to use the Rosetta-bridge with PPC program versions. In such case I generally prefer the FireFox browser.

Hello, I am trying to watch MPG files through safari. Currently, the player shows up like this:
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/6171/picture2bja.th.png
As you can see, there is no full screen option, etc. How can I change how Safari handles these files? I've looked all over the internet, tried changing Quicktimes MIME settings, and can't find anything about plugins in Safari. I have VLC plugin installed for Safari, but it doesn't show up anytime I go to a mpg file.

10.5.2 - clean install; perms repaired daily etc.
Q1 - certain pages on the BBC site cause Safari 3.0.4 to crash. Crash report invariably suggests Flash Plugin. Can I simply remove what Safari > Help > Installed Plugins reports as Shockwave Flash 9.0 r115 from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins?
Q2 - Safari > Help > Installed Plugins reports also suggests I have two QuickTime Plug-in 7.4.1 installed; and indeed I see both QuickTime Plugin.plugin and QuickTime Plugin.webplugin in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins. Can I safely remove one? If so, which?
Thanks!Hi Mark
If you remove the Flash plug-in, you won't be able to access any Flash content. Recently, problems with Flash have been associated with a certain "buginess" with the latest version. The remedy has been to "downgrade" to 9.0.47. This might resolve the BBC problem.
Here's how to downgrade. You can obtain a copy here. Download "Flash Player 9". When you open the package, open the "9r47 Folder". There, select flashplayer9r47ubmac.dmg.zip for your Intel machine. This installs Flash 9.0.47, which seems to be the most stable version of Flash.
After Flash is installed, Safari automatically opens confirming the installation of the plug-in. Quit Safari. Then open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder and "repair permissions".
Restart Safari and try the BBC site.
Regarding the 2 QT plug-ins, there ought to be the two you mentioned. Unless you are seeing a QT problem I'd leave well enough alone.

I'm debugging a plugin which works fine in Firefox, but crashes safari. I think it's dieing one one of the callbacks as part of initialization. However, I can't seem to find a reference that lists what order the callbacks are called in.
I know that it does NP_Initialize and then NP_GetEntryPoints. anyone know what comes next? one of the news? It's exiting GetEtryPoints, but not entering any of my other functions, that I can tell...Your plugin, being a dynamic library, contains the location of libVENDOR.dylib embedded in it. You can see if by doing an otool -L yourplugin.dylib in a terminal.
That's where OS X is going to look for the vendor library.
Now, you can change it after the fact. Google or man installnametool. This will allow you to modify your plugin's idea of where libVendor.dylib is located.
OR
Put libVendor.dylib in it's final location (same place it will be on other user's machine) prior to linking your plugin. Then the correct location will be written into the plugin lib. /usr/local/lib is a good place.

How do you uninstall plugins for Safari?
Hi H'S',
Please consider marking this post "solved" to the far
right of my name .
Helpful for others looking for a solved solution to a

I am trying to be helpful so please don't take offense. You do wonderful work here in the forums. Consider an edit. The image is very helpful. I may consider "borrowing" it. :~)
"In the helpful post(s) notice the 2 buttons to the left of the reply button. Click on the appropriate button. See the blue box at the top of the thread." Or words to that effect.
We both have an idea how many stars you have received on this post as opposed to the appropriate helpful/solved post. Readers are scratching their heads. :~(
