A pop up in safari has blocked Internet use and shut down options. I can shut down but it reappears when I open up safari

As of now NO, there is not a way to block some popup windows and not others.
You have to just uncheck block popup blockers when you may need them.
You can send Feedback requesting this feature on future os.

     I'm getting a lot of pop up ads. mostly while using Facebook. I'm running Safari on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite. Does anyone have any suggestions for an Ad blocker. I don't see anything in the App store.
      I can't swear to it but I don't recall this being a problem pre-Yosemite. I could be wrong. I haven't been real active on Facebook until recently. I see some third party apps out there but am alway wary of non approved software.

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. These instructions are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
          Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
          Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:

Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
The problem may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Internet criminal behind VSearch has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

I am unable to connect to the internet, there is a pop-up that says "We're sorry, but the Safari browse version you are currently using dos no support the community toolbar". My computer does say that it is connected to the internet until I open Safari.

I am unable to connect to the interent. At the top of the screen my computer says that I am connected. I have tried Network Diagnostics and tried to reset Sfari, empty Cache as well as deleted all of my interent history. I am unable to use Time Machine because I never set it up. Pop up ad blocking Safari Use!!!

Hope someone can help with this as it's really frustrating.
I'm farely new to working out challenges on Apple computers so not really sure where to start looking to fix this problem other than a few things I deleted relating to the Safari Caches and History files.
My girlfriend has a Macbook Pro and the other day she was doing something on Safari. Only had the machine a short time, and she said she hasn't been on anything she doesn't normally use, and can't think what she has clicked on that has caused the following problem to occur.
Anyway, it appears that Safari has been locked out by an extremely annoying Pop Up ad that keeps loading itself into the display bar and asking to be clicked on for more info. Anyway, she couldn't get rid of it when she first got it as it has no close button and she clicked the OK button trying to get rid of it. Now nothing in Safari can be done as this pop up blocks everything except forcing a quit.
Start Safari again and the popup works its way in again.
I've tried getting rid of the cache files and history lists or whatever they were from the Safari Library and restarted Safari but the same thing keeps happening.
I really hope someone has a fix or something to get this working, because until I get it fixed, don't really want my girlfriend working on the machine with a potential snoop, although I keep being told people can't snoop Apple products??
Anyway help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I do that every 30 minutes, thats not the issue tho, because it shows like for example, 4 months ago i search a celebrity on wikipedia ONCE, and it shows up if you type that first name in the search bar......

Safari internet screen pops up - but i can't use keyboard

When I pull up an internet page, it comes up but from there I can do nothing.
I tap the location to enter my passwords and nothing happens. Also, when I attempt to delete the web pages by tapping the red X in the corner of the pages nothing happens at all. I can get any screen to accept any data with the keyboard.
Its the original with edge and I managed to update on Friday.

Hi, I am having trouble with my Internet on my Macbook. Every time I try and go to a site it has a pop up block that says something along the lines of "Safari can't verify the identity of the website."

Below that there is more, it says," The certificate for this website is invalid. You might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be (Whatever the name of the site is) which could put your confidential info at risk. Would you like to connect to the website anyway?" and it give the options of show certificate, cancel, and continue. But the thing i dont understand is that it does this for basically EVERY page i visit. even facebook. and when i click "continue" it alows me to go to the page but limits what i can do and only shows certain things. i'm very frusterated with it. Help Me!

It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.

Safari browser pop-up disabled use of "Safari" tab

I have a Macbook Air with Mac OS X 10.8.5 and a 1.3 GHz processor. Safari keeps displaying a spam site upon opening with a pop-up that prevents the use of the "Safari" tab at the top of the screen. How do I reset Safari without that tab?

This is a very common scam. You don't need to download anything to fix it.
Force Safari to quit by following these instructions: OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit.
Hold a Shift key while launching Safari again.
If that does not fix the problem:
Force Safari to quit again.
Disconnect from the Internet by selecting Wi-Fi "off" in the Mac's menu bar, or disconnecting its Ethernet cable if you're not using wireless.
Launch Safari again by holding a Shift key. No pages will be able to load since you're not connected to the Internet.
Select the Safari menu > Preferences > General, and review your home page selection.
Select Remove All Website Data... > Remove Now.
After you reconnect to the Internet, you will need to sign in again with all websites that require authentication (such as this one).
Turn Wi-Fi back on again or reconnect your Ethernet cable.
You'll be back in business.
In an abundance of caution, consider the following additional actions. They are not required to eliminate the scam webpage but you should review them to determine certain Safari settings have not been unexpectedly altered.
Open Safari's Preferences... and select Extensions. Uninstall any Extensions that you are not certain you require by clicking the Uninstall button. If you are not sure what to uninstall, uninstall all of them. None are required for normal operation.
Select the Privacy pane. Verify "Block cookies and other website data" is configured the way you expect. If you are uncertain, choose "From third parties and advertisers".

Can I block Mac Keeper pop-up adds from Safari web pages?

I have a 2008 MBP running Lion with Safari 5.1.1.1. On several web pages I open that contain adds, these stupid Mac Keeper adds continually appear. If possible, how can I block them from appearing?

I haven't seen a MacKeeper pop up using either Glimmer Blocker or the Safari Adblock extension.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

I have turned the pop-up blocker off in Safari, but I still am getting the message to turn off my pop up blocker when I try to read my e-mail in AOL. It will not let me click on any e-mail to go to a web site.

How do I stop pop-up blocker on the new Safari?

It used to be easy----it was located under "Safari" and you just selected or un-selected it. But now that option is gone---I can't locate where to turn pop-up blocking on and off. Anybody know? Thanks!
