Safari quits-gives plugin error message.

I have Mac OS X version 10.4.11 Processor 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 and Safari version 4.1.3.
I do not have an Intel Processor. I do not know anything about or can't find if it's 65bit or ?
Yes, another oldie question.
I was told I needed to update my Flash Player on a site and nothing has been working ever since.
Safari keeps quitting while playing a game or viewing a movie or video online yet I can still view YouTube videos.
I put in the tweaked version plugin I got off YouTube from Steelbin and I thought my problems were solved because it started working. BUT...I removed my older flashplayer plug in without saving it. DUH! I don't even know which one I had or the Flashplayer version.
Then Safari started quitting on me again.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled from the archived versions and I'm ready to scream! I've kept getting an alias or damaged application. It would have a white circle with a line in it on the application. Some kind of message it was damaged.
I finally got 10.3.183.90 installed and thought everything was okay. NO! My fan will start running which is a precursor to Safari quitting on me; and it does.
My Apple report dialog box that pops up after Safari quits, says 10.4-10.5 plug is everywhere in the report but I don't know what that means. I don't understand the encryption of the report but see 10.4-10.5 plugin everywhere in it.
Get this. I was told by a company I had a trojan virus and paid handsomely to have my OS cleaned. Safari's still crashing so it's not related. But I know I don't have a virus now. I hope.
Can anyone please help me solve this. My hair is already thin so I can't afford to pull any out.
Thank you,
PJ

About disk optimization with Mac OS X
About optimization and fragmentation
Disk optimization is a process in which the physical locations of files on a volume are "streamlined." Files and metadata are re-arranged in order to improve data access times and minimize time moving a hard drive's head.
Files can become "fragmented" over time as they are changed and saved and as the volume is filled, with different parts of a single file stored in different locations on a volume. The process of collecting file fragments and putting them "back together" is known as optimization. However, if a failure occurs during optimization, such as power loss, files could become damaged and need to be restored from a backup copy.
Do I need to optimize?
You probably won't need to optimize at all if you use Mac OS X. Here's why:
Hard disk capacity is generally much greater now than a few years ago. With more free space available, the file system doesn't need to fill up every "nook and cranny." Mac OS Extended formatting (HFS Plus) avoids reusing space from deleted files as much as possible, to avoid prematurely filling small areas of recently-freed space.
Mac OS X 10.2 and later includes delayed allocation for Mac OS X Extended-formatted volumes. This allows a number of small allocations to be combined into a single large allocation in one area of the disk.
Fragmentation was often caused by continually appending data to existing files, especially with resource forks. With faster hard drives and better caching, as well as the new application packaging format, many applications simply rewrite the entire file each time. Mac OS X 10.3 Panther can also automatically defragment such slow-growing files. This process is sometimes known as "Hot-File-Adaptive-Clustering."
Aggressive read-ahead and write-behind caching means that minor fragmentation has less effect on perceived system performance.
For these reasons, there is little benefit to defragmenting.
Note:Mac OS X systems use hundreds of thousands of small files, many of which are rarely accessed. Optimizing them can be a major effort for very little practical gain. There is also a chance that one of the files placed in the "hot band" for rapid reads during system startup might be moved during defragmentation, which would decrease performance.
If you think you might need to defragment
Try restarting first. It might help, and it's easy to do.
If your disks are almost full, and you often modify or create large files (such as editing video, but see the Tip below if you use iMovie and Mac OS X 10.3), there's a chance the disks could be fragmented. In this case, you might benefit from defragmentation, which can be performed with some third-party disk utilities.
Another option is to back up your important files, erase the hard disk, then reinstall Mac OS X and your backed up files.
Tip: If you use iMovie with Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, and FileVault is enabled, performance issues can occur if your project is located in your encrypted home folder (including the desktop).

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Do they launch OK while in Safe Mode?

Means you have an incompatible Safari extension installed. Look in the /Home/Library/Safari/Extensions/ folder for the offending plug-in and delete it.

MY APPLE RIP GIVES THIS ERROR MESSAGE" the application ppRIPe has unexpectedly quit"

    Thanks.
I should have mentioned that I have already done the Resolving Permissions as outline on Apple Support pages, but, I went ahead and did the complete sequence as shown on Dr. Smokes.
I decided to stop beating a dead horse and did an Erase and Install of 10.2 again since I did not have anything on there yet. So far, everything is working perfectly. I am doing the Software Updates called for one by one to see if any of those caused the problem.
The only thing I did other than doing all of the updates after the install was to install OS 9.2 for my Classic Environment software and I also installed an HP PSC 1315v All-In-One scanner/printer. I cannot imagine that would have done anything.
I did have some strange issues with Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego and The Star Fleet Technical manual so I may stay away from them unless I start in OS 9 if none of the other updates cause any issues.
Thanks. BTW, How should I rate your answer? I know that it did not solve my problem, but, it is likely that something else I did whacked something.
I'll update when I know more.

My wife uses PC Safari on a Windows Vista OS (I have a Mac Pro and Macbook pro so no hating here).
When she chats on Facebook, Safari gives an error message each time she either receives or sends a message.
I think it might be a java or flash plugin that is either not downloading or working correctly. Is anyone else having this problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this?

My iPad2 will sometimes hang when loading an mp4. Gives an error message then attempts to resync which hangs until I unplug the iPad.
I have an iPad 2and have not had any trouble until I up dated my os. I have a pc with win 7.  I do not sync since I have so much music on my computer. I synced my apps during the back up but I had to manually reload my music and videos. Since then I turned off all syncs.
Since I have to load all my movies on this has been happening. I get through about 4 movies then it will hang up. I eventually get an error message that it cannot load this movie. I then attempts to close out. This seems to hang. When I attempt to eject the iPad it attempts to sync and that never finishes. I pull the plug and that stops the sync but I have to restart the computer before I plug back in the iPad or it will not recognize it or it will attempt to finish the sync which never ends. It sometimes hangs on something with safari and site protection.
After I restart my computer I can put in 4 or so movies, including the one it hung on before, but it always hangs up again. Any suggestions?

I am having an almost identical problem and hoped that iOS 6 and the new iTunes would fix it.  Regrettably, I again got 3 movies synced last night before iTunes locked up and gave me the xxxx cannot be synced "because the file cannot be written" message.  Same deal with iTunes hanging on "finishing sync" after that and me having to remove the iPad from the cable to get things to come back to life on the PC (Win 7 64 bit).
I've also done a factory restore followed by a restore from backup and have the same problem.

Upon upgrading iPhoto, iPhoto Help no longer works.  It gives the error message:  "The selected topic is currently unavailable. To see all iPhoto Help, you must be connected to the Internet."   I am obviously connected to the internet since you are reading this.
I tried upgrading permissions but it did not help!?  Can anyone tell me what is wrong?  Thanks

    Try
Reboot the computer, see if that fixes it.
    Then try:
Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and simply reinstalling OS X
Log in and update to 10.6.8
c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk
reboot and all should be fine, except some third party programs that install kext files, those will have to be reinstalled from fresh sources.

  • I have a an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes. All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem.

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks

  • My 3.6.14 keeps trying to update and gives this error message:"The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again."

My OS is Windows XP version service pack 3. I even tried to install FF4 but it never get installed. As I mentioned my FF keeps trying to update itself but it gives the error message I provided in title. Now I don't have access to my FF browser and my life is stopped because I have all my passwords saved on FF. I restarted my notebook but it stills try to update itself giving the same error message. I can not also upgrade my Adobe reader 7.0.7 to 10 I have tried more than 10 times but it never gets upgraded. I had this Adobe problem since long time ago.

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • ITunes set up gives an error message saying not a "valid win32 application"

I am using Windows 7 and trying to download iTunes, but when I try to open the iTunes set up it gives an error message saying that it is not a "valid win32 application". It does the same for downloading quicktime. I have no idea what this means or what to do about it.

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?
