Safari randomly returns to home screen...

My iPhone 3G, using os ver 4.0.2 (8A400), while browsing the internet will randomly return to the home screen. It doesn't matter if I am using AT&T 3G or at home using my US Robotics WiFi the problem will happen. And the timing varies... sometimes it happens in two to three minutes and sometimes it takes ten to fifteen minutes.
Is the problem with my iPhone or with Safari? Is there a resolution tot he problem?

There's very little help that a restore is going to do in this case, and probably even less calling apple. This is a very common problem people have had with the touch, and we can all only just wait for a future update to the firmware, which will hopefully fix these "glitches".

  • Why does my IPAD return to home screen randomly

I am having problems with my IPad returning to home screen while I am in the middle of using it.  Any ideas how to stop this.

    Try This...
Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
Also consider Deleting any Apps you have Purchased / Downloaded but you now never use..

  • Safari goes back to home screen when opened using Safari icon

I dropped my iphone Saturday, fortunately I had it in my Otterbox case which was in its holster. Thank God there was no physical damage to the phone. However, now I notice that every time I want to use Safari using the Safari icon on the home screen, it doesn't respond and kicks me back to the home screen after a few seconds. I reset the iphone first, deleted cookies, history and cache finally did a restore and still kicks me back to the home screen. If I click one of bookmarks I have on my home screen it works fine, it's unresponsive basically when it opens on a blank page. Any help will be deeply appreciated! Thanks in advance.

The apps (mail and Safari) are crashing for some reason. I would start with this.
Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar where all of your recent apps will appear. Hold down on the mail app icon until it wiggles - along with the rest of the icons - and then tap the minus sign in the corner of the icon to cloase the app. Close Safai the same way and continue to close all of the apps in the task bar. Tap the screen above the task bar to return to the home screen.
Now restart your iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the  red slider bar appears and slide to shut off. To power up, hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and then let go of the button. Try Mail and Safari again to see if that helped.
If that doesn't work - reset the iPad. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. After the iPad has started up, try the apps again.
One last thing you may try for Safari is this ... Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Cache. Then restart the iPad like I explained above and try Safari again.

  • IPad 4th gen seems that Safari will return to home page when new mail downloads during web

iPad 4th Gen. Safari will return to home page when it seems to download new mail when I'm on the web!

Clear Safari, close Safari completely and reset your iPad.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Safari returns to Home screen

When changing websites in Safari our iPad often goes blank and returns to the home screen. Just recently started in the year that we have had it. Other applications seem to work fine.

You can try this next. You can remove databases in Safari. I'm not sure it will do any good but it will not hurt anything.
You can go to Settings>Safari>Databases. If you don't see databases under the Accept Cookies field in the setting then it doesn't matter and this theory is shot. If databases is listed - tap it and it takes you to the next window that shows all of the databases in Safari. Tap edit and remove them - or at least see if one or more of those databases is from the sites that are causing Safari to crash. If they are, by all means delete them and that may help. It does no harm to remove these because when you return to that site again the databases will reload. I delete mine from time to time. If you see one that is close to the size limit alloted for that database, it may be causing an issue. Restart the iPad after you do this.
Your theory about removing apps may still hold water. You may have not hit on the one that is causing the problem yet. One other thing you can try is to download an app - any free app - see if Safari works OK after you try that. This  seems to be a new "fix" that sometimes works for apps that crash. Again - no promises - but it will do no harm to try. You can always delete the app if you don't want it.

  • My iPod is stuck on safari and won't turn off or return to home screen

I updated my iPod touch to iOS 6 and since then I've encounntered multiple problems. My iPod is stuck on safari and I can zoom in and zoom out but that's all I am able to do, I can't turn it off nor can I go back to the home screen. I tried letting it go on low battery but it's still on. The only button that works is the volume buttons. Help please?

If the reset is not successful, try the other items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod touch 4th keeps returning to home screen when on the internet

This is a real problem!  I can't have more than two internet pages up at one time and if I try to open any other pages it returns to the home screen before thepage has even loaded. I constantly use my iPod for the internet, it's not much use if I can't open more than one page.
I have used the soft reset- holding down the lock and home buttons at the same time- before and it has worked but now my Home button doesn't work at all so I have to use assisted touch, meaning there isn't a way to do the soft reset. Can I do the resset another way?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Safari amd Clear History, Data and Cookies
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Returning to home screen?

I leave my iPhone at the home screen and it enters the sleep mode. I get a phone call, up popes on the screen who it is. I answer it and when I hang up it returns to the sleep mode. Works great but when I take it out of the sleep mode the screen is in the contact list.
I hope I explained this well enough. Is this normal? All my phone calls received while in sleep mode will leave me at the contact list when I take it out of sleep mode.

Pretty sure it is normal...at least for me...anytime I answer the phone (from sleep) and go back to it later it will be on contacts. Sort of annoying, but I have gotten use to it.

  • Why do all my apps never open and return to home screen?

I installed my apps, but now every time I try to open one I am immediately returned to the home screen and can't use anything. Any ideas?

GREAT, thanks for the fix to a bizarre problem that was driving me crazy! You can always count on Apple discussions, can't say the same about this whole "2.0 transition", it's been a bit rough and I can't get push contacts or calendars from MobileMe to work, but I'll give things a couple of days to get back on track.
I had a strong feeling things would be difficult today after the WWDC keynote, particularly the whole push functionality given the myriad of syncing problems we've had to deal with in the previous non-push world

  • Mail will not display, screen returns to home screen when I try.

MMail will not display or load up.  When I enter the mail icon it instantly returns to the home screen.  Therefor mail will not display or show.

The Mail App is crashing on you. You might have a corrupt email, a spam email or an email with a very large attachment that is causing the crash. It could also be a corrupt setting. It's difficult to know that it could be. If you have a computer, log into your email account in a web browser and look for any problematic emails and try deleting them there.
Try closing the mail app completely on the iPad, reset the device and then try mail again.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Next, reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
