Safari reader can no longer avoid trying to refresh

I used to be able to take a webpage "to go" on my iPod touch. That is I would navigate Safari to something that I wanted to read later, hit the reader, and a reader version of the document would load, sort of larger text version of the content with most of the graphics stripped out. I could then hit the home button and still use the other functions of iPod outside of Safari (music player, etc) and later on I could bring Safari back up and read the document, the reader content would be retained. Here is the part that is no longer working: I could bring the reader content back even if I didn't have access to a live internet connection at the time, a very convenient feature. Now, reader wants to refresh which wipes out the document I loaded in the absense of an internet connection. To put it another way, reader no longer functions in a disconnected mode due to refreshing upon opening. I don't know if this problem necessarily maps to iOS versions, but I do know that reader didn't do this auto-refresh in iOS 5 and I'm now running 6.
Questions:
1. Is there a setting that I can change to turn off the auto-refresh?
2. If no, can this be suggested as feature (configurable auto-refresh) as a possible improvement to reader?

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Quit and relaunch Firefox. Empty the Firefox cache. Instructions > How to clear the Firefox cache
Try a video.
If that doesn't help, you may have the YouTube HTML5 beta enabled.

Can not preview articles tried to refresh works sometime then stops

when I try to check mail or roll over articles to preview then nothing happen if you keep trying to refresh it will start to work but when you return to home then it stops

I'm not sure how to close my discussion but I did find the solution to my problem... When I did the download from my hosting provider, I inadvertently added the host's .htaccess file to my local folder. Oops. Deleted the .htaccess and we were back in business.

Safari preference for how long opening tried?

Good morning.
Is there a preference to set how long Safari tries to contact a website?
It seems to be set at maybe 60 seconds now.
I would like to set it at 5+ minutes for a single website that down't seem to want to let me on, but on for which multiple other users have ready access (probably all windows users).
I use the most recent Safari version for 10.4.11.

PS: I have also tried with Firefox and IE, but both seem to have the same limitation.

Security for starters. And yes, it would solve the problems. Your PBookG4 is about 8 to 9 yrs old? You can't expect aging softwae and hardware to compete with today's technology on the web.
Tiger v10.4 / Leopard v10.5 / Snow Leopard v10.6 / Lion v10.7 and Mountain Lion is not far behind so you are about 4 Mac operating systems behind.
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion. Even more innovation comes to the Mac.

Safari Crashed: Can no longer open any program

Yeah, so basically that's what happened, no log, nothing, it just crashed, so I hit *Command Q* to quit and tried to reopen, except it wouldn't, in fact, nothing would. I would check the version of Safari and Leopard, but I can't, I can't access the drop down menu, Macintosh HD, or anything else, I can only type this on my other computer.

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I had to do a hard shutdown as the computer got stuck in the shutdown mode. It came back up OK and everything works. But there had been some strange hard drive noises the night before. I ended up replacing my laptop in the meantime. I had also been editing my bookmarks. I think the problem has to do with Leopard being to intense for my old powerbook G4.
So try to just shut down by the powerbutton. And restart.

Safari Preferences : Can no longer see passwords:

I'm using Safari 6.1, OS 10.8.5.
I just went to retrieve a password that I'd forgotten, by going to Safari>Preferences>Passwords.
It hasn't ever been changed. I used to be able to click and put my master password in, to enable me to see my passwords.
FWIW: Autofill user names and passwords is checked.
Show all passwords for selected websites is checked.
Nothing else is checked. Confused ...why it is no longer working?

here is a screenshot - left photo, after I enter password and click ok...I get the next window....no passwords. Just the highlighted website that I wanted to see the password for.
In the past, after clicking OK....the window would show the password for the highlighted website.

Really? Safari is not updated as part of any standalone process. Do you mean Safari on your iMac? Then did you really update OS X?
Sorry, it's not at all clear what you really did. You should provide us with version numbers of:
OS X
iOS
iPad model number
iTunes

Please Help: Automator to get text from Safari Reader into Text file

Hello All,
I was hoping that someone will be able to help me.
I would like for automator to obtain article text from a website without me having to manually cut and paste it.
I tried to put together a workflow to get text from webpage, but it unfortunatley get some information that I don't want for eg. Menu Bar Titles and additional links etc. What would be ideal is if I could only extract the data that shows when I use the Safari Reader function. I have tried a jave Readability Script, but this also extract the same information. Is there anyway someone could please kindly help me out with a nice Applescript or something?
If there is no way to do this, there could be another solution around this... if there was a way I could use automator to delete the first and last 10 lines of the text document.
Again, any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback. I would be happy to use a screen capture program, but Quicktime X seems to only allow me to record audio and record the video separately. I will do this as a last resort, but it's a big pain to try to line up the video audio.

Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
From the drop down menu click Restart.
See if that makes a difference ...

I found this discussion about three or four months ago. I was having the same problem with Safari not opening, along with my other login items.

HOWEVER... Today, all of the sudden... Out of out of the blue... I have the same problem, again!?
I tried removing, then re-adding, the URL file from the log in items, automatic open list.
It did not work?

Since upgrading to ios8, pages very slow to load, and can no longer read items in my reading list when offline. ?????

SI since upgrading to ios8, Safari pages are very slow to load, Kindle crashes upon opening, and I can no longer read saved artices from my reading list when offline. Big disappointment. Is it possible to downgrade to previous ios?

I actually managed to fix it! But unfortunately I don't know what I was that I did that helped.
Anyways, this is kind of what I did.
1. I tried to reset form bakup via iTunes, no change.
2. I tried to reset as a new iPhone, problem still there and reading list also as bookmarks!? (several hundred)
3. Noticed that I could delete a bookmark, once in a while, the other times I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
4. Because I figured that it was a memory problem, I thought it made sense to delete as many as possible, witch I did.
5. Noticed that it was more likely that I coould delete a bookmark if I restarted Safari.
6. Notice that it was even more likely that I could delete a bookmark if I turned the Safari sync with iCould off (with option detete information on iPhone) and then back on again.
7. When I was about half way through deleting the bookmark list I suddenly discovered that all but one of the items in my reading list was 'waiting' and one was downloading. I kind of was 'unstuck' now.
8. I started to delete items in my reading list, but every other time I got the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
9. It took a while to delete all bookmarks and items in the reading list.
Hope you guys could use the info here to fix your problems too!

Can no longer add / remove to bookmarks / reading list since ios 6 upgrade

Hi all,
I upgraded my ipod touch to ios 6 last night, and since the upgrade I can no longer add / remove bookmarks or add / remove items to the reading list in safari.
Whenever I try I get the 'Bookmarks are being synced. Please edit the bookmarks once syncing has completed.' message.
So far I've tried;
A hard reset
Turning off Safari in the icloud settings
I still can't do anything with the bookmarks / reading list, I just don't get the 'Bookmarks are being synced' message
Ensuring that push notifications are enabled for icloud
I'm not sure what to try next.....
When I disable Safari in the icloud settings, it asks me if I want to keep a copy of previously synched bookmarks on my ipod - So far I have as I don't want to lose them.
I'm guessing the next step is to not keep a copy and hope ios wipes them - If I do this will the bookmarks still be available in icloud when I turn safari data back on?

Safari 6.0.4 "broke" Share button - also Mail can no longer find the application (installed via Map App store)

Since installing the 6.0.4 Safari update via the Mac App store, I have a host of problems:
1. Mail can no longer find "an associated app" when I click on a url in a mail message
2. The Share button (extension) in the Safari toolbar no longer works
3. Any attempt to open a new url results in a new safari window being opened although in my preferences I have "open new windows in tabs" selected
4. If I click on a tab that was previously open I am continually asked to refresh the window
5. I have had about a half dozen "Safari not responding" events since the upgrade, forcing me to Force Quit - generally when I'm trying to use one of the extensions or returning to a prebiously opened tab
6. Safari is intermittently unresponsive to mouse clicks -functionality can only be restored by refreshing the page
7. Safari can no longer find my passwords for some extensions (e.g. Buffer)
8. Safari is EXTREMELY slow loading pages - stalls out a few moments after entering url (or switching back to that tab) - sometimes for as long as 2 or 3 minutes
All the Safari extensions I have were eeither pre-installed or from Apple's Safari extensions page.
The install also corrupted my iCloud (AppleID) password, but thiswas easily fixed in Keychain.
Anyone have a fix or know of any software conflicts that could be responsible?

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then uninstall them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
No data will be lost.

Ever since I installed Safari 5.1 on my PC (XP) I can no longer access the pdf files on my website. I have no problems with Chrome and Firefox. I keep on getting a message from WebKit2WebProcess.exe that the LogTransport2.dill was not found. (I HATE PCs...) I tried reinstalling Acrobat 9. I tried reinstalling Safari. I even tried an older version of Safari. Nothing Helped. Others have tried it on their machine, and it worked fine. But I do not know what is the matter with mine. I suspect the root cause is the missing LogTransport2.dill file. But I do not know how to go about getting it. Your help is truly appreciated. My website is http://www.hlmartworks.com.

I have also found the article that provides 3 solutions but none of the solutions worked.
