Safari Reader where is it?

All I can find in the address bar is the +/bookmark and the reload icon. The Safari Help says its on the right end of the Safari address field. But I don't see it.
I understand that I can use the Reader similar to Adobe Reader to comment and highlight articles for study purposes. Is this possible where can I find it?

Safari Reader does not appear on pages with multiple links - the RSS button appears instead (as on these forums).

you will see the button to the left of the reload icon. However I see no way of annotating the result, it's intended simply to display the main content free of clutter.
If you want to annotate a page you can bring up the Print dialog, select PDF, and then Save as PDF. You can open that in Preview and annotate and save the article.

I keep seeing references to a Safari reader button aalong with suggestions it has some
sort of magical properties.
What exactly is it and where can it by found?

The reader button is automatically displayed on web sites where there is a large about of text, like a news site. The Reader button will automatically appear at the end of the address entry area in your button bar.
I have used it a few times and it does seem to make reading articles much nicer.
If for some reason it is not showing up, either Safari does not see the articles on the site as reader capable, there is some other plug-in or add-on that is in conflict with S5, or presumably there is some code a web site dev can use that blocks the reader capability. The third option is not confirmed of course.
I have seen it come up randomly on Apples forums depending on the size of the post / thread you are looking at.

Safari reading list gone

I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and Safari 8.0.3. I was in a Safari window, and accessed the sidebar. Once in the sidebar I accessed the reading list and as I was reading over the entries contained therein they all disappeared. What happened? Where did it go? Why did it go? How do I get it back?

    Delete Caches.db
    Close all windows and quit all applications.
    Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
    Select "Library" from the dropdown.
    Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
    Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
    Close windows and relaunch Safari.

Firefox can't read any Bookmark that was imported from my PC with file extension .url. Safari reads them fine. Is there a fix, so I can use Firefox instead of Safari? Many thanks if so. I have the latest version of Firefox

I don't think that extension is supported. I believe Firefox can only read .json and .html.

Prints from Safari Reader crops edges

Hello,
printing from Safari Reader to PDF or paper results in cropped edges, meaning that text is being cut off (not printed) on all sides. The preview in Reader looks fine. Changing margins manually in the printer's dialog is being overriden and so is changing the output size to e.g. 90 percent. Happens with 2 different printers.
The printer's manufacturer tells us it's an Apple problem. Seems kind of a flaw if you build in a reader function only to have text cut off as a result…
Any hints on how to correct this are warmly appreciated!

I use Reader a lot and find it extremely useful, especially when it comes to technical tips on Mac World and other web sites. Being able to read the core article without all the surrounding fluff is really excellent. but I too suffer from the same printing problem. There's nothing wrong with my printer and its settings as all other applications are handled perfectly. The problem seems to be any proper handling of margins in Reader. The printout starts at the very top of the page and goes to the very bottom with no margins. Often lines are cut off halfway through, with the rest of the line appearing at the top of the next page. Maybe Apple did not expect anyone to print articles in Reader, seeing it just as an on-screen viewing facility, but technical articles often need printing out because they can't be used right there and then. Does anyone else think this is an Apple problem, because I'm convinced my printer is just fine?

Please Help: Automator to get text from Safari Reader into Text file

Hello All,
I was hoping that someone will be able to help me.
I would like for automator to obtain article text from a website without me having to manually cut and paste it.
I tried to put together a workflow to get text from webpage, but it unfortunatley get some information that I don't want for eg. Menu Bar Titles and additional links etc. What would be ideal is if I could only extract the data that shows when I use the Safari Reader function. I have tried a jave Readability Script, but this also extract the same information. Is there anyway someone could please kindly help me out with a nice Applescript or something?
If there is no way to do this, there could be another solution around this... if there was a way I could use automator to delete the first and last 10 lines of the text document.
Again, any help will be much appreciated.

Thank you for your feedback. I would be happy to use a screen capture program, but Quicktime X seems to only allow me to record audio and record the video separately. I will do this as a last resort, but it's a big pain to try to line up the video audio.

Problem with safari reader

Reader installs a plugin that opens PDF links in the browser. If you want to use that plugin, you'll have to consult the Adobe documentation to find out how to save the PDF's to a file. If you don't want to use it, I can tell you how to remove it, but then Safari will still open most PDF links in its own viewer. You can usually save them as a file by clicking the rightmost of the four buttons that appear when you move the cursor to the bottom of the viewer window.

In Mountain Lion, Safari Reader recognises fewer webpages than in Lion. Do you experience the same?

In Mountain Lion, Safari Reader does not accept webpages than used to work with Reader in Lion, for example Wikipedia entries.

Me too. On a article web page, more often than not, the Safari reader button is greyed out. What is even more strange, i can make it appear after 2 or 3 refresh of the same page, or if I play with the safari windows width or height. It seems more stable when Safari is full screen. Very weird.

I agree with you, many things in the ios 6.x were more elegant. The reader was the most one of them. I think the ios7 wants to be the windows 8.

Safari Reading List Empty

Hi,
my Safari Reading List had over 100 items on it but now it's vanished
After speaking with Apple support thay are saying that because i didn't
use icloud that basically a software glitch has erased all my items.
Is there any way of getting these items back?

This did happen before but by the next day everything was back.

How to enable Safari Reader on a muse created site?

I am having a problem getting the safari reader button to work on my muse created site. This is on the desktop and iOS Safari web browser. Some pages do pull content on the Chrome iReader extension but it appears to be random and not all of the content. I have consulted this link: http://mathiasbynens.be/notes/safari-reader

Are you (=Installer) Admin on the box? I can install my CR on my machine only when I'm an Admin on the box:
Go to My computer => Right Click => Manage =>Local Users & groups => groups => Administrator => and add your login ID in this group. - Sorry if it was unnecessary details...

Get safari feature where you type a letter and press enter and have it go to the webpage

I like firefox much more than safari, but I really like the safari feature where it suggests webpages. For example, say the last webpage I went on that starts with an "f" is facebook. All I would need to do is type in "f" and press enter and it will take me to facebook. Is there an extension or something that will bring that feature to firefox?

A possibility is to bookmark a site and assign a keyword to it.

Safari Reader -- how to get it to kick in?

Hi, for most of my web pages, I can see the Safari Reader button. It works fine.
But, for some of my web pages, the Reader button never appears, even though the pages are marked up the same (ie. same html structure and css).
What governs this? is it the length of the page?

Safari reading list prefers to load the content from the web

I am having trouble with using Safari reading list. It seems that my webpages do get saved in the list alright but anytime I have an internet connection, the reading list prefers to load the content from the web instead of the cache.
Let me give you a model situation: I am on 3G but currently over FUP so my data are slow. I have a webpage in my list. After opening it, it takes a very long time to open, very likely due to the currently limited speed of my data plan. However, if I turn the phone into airplane mode and try to open the same page from the list, it loads immediately.
Can anyone advice on how to prevent my phone from doing this?

Firstly an external content type designed to work with SharePoint list and there is no way to read apart from this.
If you are looking the solution out of the " Business Connectivity" then find that data source has been exposed through WCF and Web Service ?
So you can use REST API and CSOM to consume those data in SharePoint.
You can also leverage the ADO.NET option if the datasources based on MS technologies.
