Safari...Reading List

There is an option to edit "Bookmarks"; however there is not one for the "Reading List". Is there a way to edit? If not, Apple can the option be added with an update???

  • Safari Reading List Empty

    Hi,
    my Safari Reading List had over 100 items on it but now it's vanished
    After speaking with Apple support thay are saying that because i didn't
    use icloud that basically a software glitch has erased all my items.
    Is there any way of getting these items back?

    This did happen before but by the next day everything was back.
    Not this time though!

  • Safari reading list prefers to load the content from the web

    Hello to the community,
    I am having trouble with using Safari reading list. It seems that my webpages do get saved in the list alright but anytime I have an internet connection, the reading list prefers to load the content from the web instead of the cache.
    Let me give you a model situation: I am on 3G but currently over FUP so my data are slow. I have a webpage in my list. After opening it, it takes a very long time to open, very likely due to the currently limited speed of my data plan. However, if I turn the phone into airplane mode and try to open the same page from the list, it loads immediately.
    Can anyone advice on how to prevent my phone from doing this?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    Firstly an external content type designed to work with SharePoint list and there is no way to read apart from this.
    If you are looking the solution out of the " Business Connectivity" then find that data source has been exposed through WCF and  Web Service ?
    So you can use REST API and CSOM to consume those data in SharePoint.
    You can also leverage the ADO.NET option if the datasources based on MS technologies.

  • Safari reading list injection

    Recently, I found a very annoying issue.
    When I open a website page, their advertisement script will inject a record to my Safari reading list.
    After few page viewed, my reading list is filled by ads.
    How I can avoid this injection?

    Hi ..
    That sounds like adware (malware).
    Download and run the AdMedic adware / malware removal tool here >  AdwareMedic
    Only takes a minute or two.

  • Searching Safari reading list

    Friends
    I have a little script that searches the Safari reading list. It goes like this:
    display dialog "enter the string to search for" default answer ""
    set searchTerm to the text returned of the result
    do shell script "strings ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist | grep -i '" & searchTerm & "' | awk '{ print FNR \"\t\" $0}' | open -f"
    As you can see, the heavy lifting is being done in the shell and AS is just the wrapper.
    'strings' treats the binary file containing the plist into something the grep command can use, 'grep' finds the  search term, 'awk' adds line numbers and tabs and 'open' tells TextEdit to spit out the result.
    All well and good.
    However, as it stands, the script will return any search string in either the URL or the preview/snippet field. This is problematic as if the string is only in the preview field, it will return that line only and not the associated URL line (such is the nature of the grep command I've used).
    My question is how to associate the search term with its nearest preceding URL line? I can figure out how to do it if anyone can get me started on what kind of method would work.
    Alternatively, has anyone tried to solve the problem of searching the reading list in AppleScript more effectively than I've managed here?
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Come on what's one more book!
    So I was thinking about this some more and I thought I had a better way for you to get the contents of the plist file, using defaults read. That is
    # defaults read ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    will give you an ascii representation of the plist file. Then I looked what is in the Bookmarks,plist file and I have to wonder if this is doable as a simple grep type thing. Here is one ReadingList entry from my file:
    ReadingList =                     {
                            DateAdded = "2013-03-20 13:41:07 +0000";
                            PreviewText = "Mac Developer LibraryApple DeveloperSearch Shell Scripting Primer PDFCompanion File Table of Contents Introduction Before You Begin Shell Sc";
                        ReadingListNonSync =                     {
                            ArchiveOnDisk = 1;
                            DateLastFetched = "2013-03-25 22:36:45 +0000";
                            FetchResult = 1;
                        Sync =                     {
                            Key = "\\"C=6945@U=7b36bc63-4586-4499-85b5-805fc0015d6f\\"";
                            ServerID = "https://***********************/bookmarks/WsFqLXiwRUqaGrysISsNow/1787D5C4-0F3A-4 D3E-ABD9-B8BBDC4BD30A.xbel";
                        URIDictionary =                     {
                            title = "Shell Scripting Primer: Introduction";
                        URLString = "https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/opensource/conceptual/she llscripting/Introduction/Introduction.html";
                        WebBookmarkType = WebBookmarkTypeLeaf;
                        WebBookmarkUUID = "CFB1A5D8-C260-42F4-92DD-04DA44C7A7F7";
    and of course this is in the Bookmarks plist file so if you grep for something there is no guarantee that what you find is even in the reading list section.
    If you pursue this I would try using awk (or PERL would be very good for this also)  to capture everything in a ReadingList block, look at the PreviewText and Title entries for the search string and if there is a match  look for the URLString entry.
    Definitely doable with either awk or PERL but it will stretch your scripting talents.
    good luck

  • Why some pages are not available offline in Safari reading list?

    From time to time I experience surprises that some web pages are not available offline in reading list of Safari - link is stored, but content - no.
    I was thinking that I was closing Safari too fast before pages downloaded.
    But I rechecked - I gave safari enough time and it still not downloaded.
    When internet connection is available pages are readable, but not in offline.
    And related to issue:
    Should I open Safari to allow to download page, when I add page to reading list from other applications by selecting "Add to reading list"?

    YEs, it's totally frustrating... I'll never again just go along with an upgrade. After upgrading to IOS8 the reading list feature no longer works.
    I even tried the factory reset, clearing out everything and making my iPad 2 like it was originally. And I didn't restore from backup either, afraid whatever bug it is would come back. I even installed iCab Mobile, and Readability... nothing works!
    I Really, really, regret upgrading. I want my fully functioning IOS7 back!!
    IS there any way to get IOS7 back, 'coz this IOS8 is for the birds?!

  • How to remove item from Safari reading list on iPad 2

    How do you remove an item from your reading list in Safari on the iPad 2?  I don't have the "x" in upper corner like I have on computer

    Swipe across the name in the list and you should get a Delete button on it.

  • Items In safari reading list get duplicated

    For some strange reason any items that I add to my reading list in safari get duplicated, about 5 times. Same thing happens to my bookmarks that are outside the "bookmarks bar" and "bookmarks menu" folders. I have an ipad, an iphone and one computer all connected to icloud. Can anyone suggest a solution?

    Duplication can be the result of synchronizing the same data with an iOS device both in iCloud and in iTunes. Are you doing that?

  • Migrating Stickies content and Safari Reading List from Snow Leopard to Mavericks

    I am about to upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mavericks but am concerned about maintaining the integrity of two collections of important material: the contents of hundreds of Stickies notes, and the collection of Reading List bookmarks in Safari. I want to be able to access these items from the new versions in Mavericks. From what I've read, both sets of material should be portable, but I want to make sure that there will not be unforeseen problems and loss of this content. Are there any problems or issues people have encountered doing this, or any tricks or tips I should be aware of?

    Try making a test user account in System Preferences > Users & Groups.
    Isolating an issue by using another user account
    Then log out of your usual user account and try the test user account, and see if the website  will let you in.
    I suspect that the problem is an internet plugin that is not compatible with Mavericks. The old internet plugin will not be in the test user account.
    If the site lets you in with the test user account, then it's a process of trial and error to figure out which plugin is the culprit.
    The internet plugins are found in a few places.
    Most are in /Library/Internet Plugins
    Some may be in ~/Library/Internet Plugins
    ~/Library is hidden by default.

  • Safari Reading List Bug

    I have twice had a problem where, while attempting to add a new page to the Reading List in Safari, almost all th existing items in the list vanish. In their place are multiple copies (like about a dozen each) of the last two or three items added to the list. There seems no way to recover the previous saved entries at this point. Obviously frustrating.
    Has anyone else seen this? Or know of way to fix or prevent this from happening?

    Hi ...
    Still, if this happens, it can make you anxious
    Yes.. I understand. If this happens again, try this...
    Deselect Bookmarks in System Preferences > iCloud then reselect then restart your Mac.

  • Safari Reading List - entries duplicated 70 times!

    Today I went into the Reading List panel in Safari and discovered that most of the entries have been duplicated 60-70 times. To make matters worse, you have to delete the duplicate entries one at a time. At this rate it will takes hours to fix.
    -- any fix for this?
    -- Does any one know where Safari stores the reading list information so I can restore from a Time Machine backup?
    Thanks!
    Eric

    On my reading list there is a "Clear All" button at the top.

  • Safari Reading List Cache

    Is it possible to delete this? I've gone to the usage section in the settings app to try, but everytime I try to delete it, nothing happens

    I have manually cleared out my reading list and emptied the cache multiple times. The cache won't go away permanently. there is a 242 MB cache eating the space on my already cramped 16 GB iPad 3. The list is empty on all of my computers. I can't maually clear the cache using a file explorer from my desktop because this cache appears to be stored in the root level Safari area. Can we get some developer help here? I need this space!

  • Safari reading list gone

    I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and Safari 8.0.3.  I was in a Safari window, and accessed the sidebar. Once in the sidebar I accessed the reading list and as I was reading over the entries contained therein they all disappeared.  What happened?  Where did it go?  Why did it go? How do I get it back?

        Delete Caches.db
        Close all windows and quit all applications.
        Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" from the dropdown.
        Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
        Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
        Close windows and relaunch Safari.

  • Safari reading list waiting?

    My reading list in safari has the items as waiting? Suddenly appeared last night

    Safari has to download the web page into the Reading list before it becomes accessible in the list for offline viewing. You can watch that take place when you add an item by looking at the open book icon and you can see progress bar as the site downloads. The book icon turns into the eyeglasses icon that indicates reading list and the progress bar appears underneath the eyeglasses icon. Maybe these items didn't totally load into the list.
    Can you access these sites offline? Or did this happen with all of your items in the reading list?
    Have you tried quitting Safari completely, or clearing Safari, or rebooting the iPad?
    To quit Safari - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
    To clear Safari - Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data.
    If you want to try rebooting - Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Safari reading list missing

    Reading list WAS missing. OS reinstalled. It workd for a while, now is gone, along with AutoFill, which appears but doesn't work.

    Pages that support Reader will show Reader in blue right side of the Safari address bar.

    When you select an article in your Reading List, Safari presents a Reader button on the right of the Smart Search Field. Click the button and the article appears without distracting content. You can also zoom, send the article using Mail, and print from the heads-up display that appears in Reader when you hover over the bottom of an article.
    Automatic Reader
    If you view an item in your Reading List with Reader and then select another item in your list, Safari presents the new item with Reader.
    From here >  Apple - Safari - Learn about the features available in Safari.
    Click View from the Safari menu bar. From the drop down menu click Show Reading List
    Click View again then click Customize Toolbar. You can drag the Reading List icon to the Safari menu bar.
