Safari Rendering Badly Like Folded Curtain or Accordion

Hi. I'm using the latest Chrome now because Safari on Lion with the latest update still renders badly into an accordion or what looks like a folded curtain at the top and bottom when you scroll it. It's becoming frequent. What's this bug called if it is a bug? Thank you in advance.
Gbu,
Alvin

Hi,
Are you using dialup to connect to the internet? Do you use any 'internet accelerators' provided by your ISP or another company? These accelerators often reduce the quality of images to make them smaller and thus quicker for you to load websites.
If you do have software like this, try adjusting the settings to reduce the amount of compression being performed.
Good luck!

  • The issue is related to firefox 3.5 but is also seen in firefox 3.6 the images rendered like a curtain effect if they are not preloaded and the page builds up in part rather than building all at once and showing

When we traverse from one page to the other and this is not different php pages, its the same html page only dom manipulation. to show different gui one after the other. Now on these screens there are some images that are preloaded like loaded upfront and some are pulled at run time when user visits that screen. All images that are pulled on run time show a curtain effect. This is problem number 1, we cannot preload these images since the systems are having only 250mb ram.
Now the other problem is that when the user goes from one screen to the other the entire screen builds up in one shot on ff 1.0.8 but on ff 3.5 or 3.6 it builds up in parts
Do we need to change some configuration in firefox so that the curtain effect is eliminated, Is there a setting in firefox 3.5 that can make the rendering more like ff 1.0.8 or ff 2.
Is there any different that you suggest we do our dom manipulations or some ways that we should not do if that is the cause of the issue. This is very urgent since we are loosing users due to performance problems

I have purchased a new iMac, with Safari 5.0.5, but it won't retain bookmarks, I thought I can download a new Safari from Apple. So I deleted Safari from the application folder.
Then I tried to download Safari from Firefox but after finish download, what I got was a dmg file, with a pkg icon (an opened box) and it can't be installed. Same with Google Chrome.
My question is: how can I download Safari? And will it retain bookmarks?

Reinstall Safari from the Optional Installs.pkg on your Mac install disc that came with your iMac. Or in your case, you use Pacifist to extract the Safari app from the .dmg file.
    To bookmark a webpage:
Go to the webpage you want to bookmark. If you use tabs, you can open multiple webpages in tabs to bookmark them as a collection.
Choose Bookmarks > Add Bookmark, or Bookmarks > “Add Bookmarks for These Tabs.”
Type a name for the bookmark or collection in the dialog that appears.
Specify where you want to keep the bookmark or collection. You can add it to the bookmarks bar, the Bookmarks menu, or to a collection if you have created any.
    Click Add.
To add a bookmark quickly, click the Add button in the toolbar, or drag the webpage’s icon from the address field to the bookmarks bar.
To see your bookmarks, choose Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks.
In the future, rather then deleting an app, come here and ask for help first. More times then not, you will save yourself time and trouble.

My original iPad takes about 5 long seconds before responding to my finger tap in the safari window. Like I tap in Safari window, then count 5 seconds before I can begin typing my search words. Is this normal? I really don't remember it taking so long when I bought it, but it has been this way for awhile. I have closed all open apps many times to no avail. I just reset all settings and still 5 seconds. I don't have a lot on my iPad with plenty of free space available. Also, I have to click twice on many things that typically take one click. Like it highlights it with first click, then second click completes the action that normally would be done in one click, like Facebook like button. Like will underline with click one, then will change to like on second click. Do I need to try to restore from my computer?
    Thanks for any help!

Ive tried that but when Im logged in I dont have all the permmisions I should have so it just runs the test for my usernames own little virtual world.  Ive been using macs for over a decade now and I have never had my computer do anything like this. while sitting in front of my screen I watched the mouse go to some personal files and change the permissions and then covered their tracks by changing the timestamp on the file dates back. I watched it happpen while all internet conections were off.  I had my identity stolen, my facebook password changed, my email accounts closed out. and my firmware password changed all within two weeks of the origninal boot date

  • Why is it that text in Mavericks and Safari renders as medium gray and not black, anymore?

Why is it that text in Mavericks and Safari renders as medium gray and not black, anymore? In Mountain Lion and Safari 6.x this was not a problem.

Have registered the following to the feedback link above by macjack:
Mavericks renders most text as a gray (65 +/- in all three RGB using Digital Color Meter) and not black.
This is a big change from pre-Mavericks and is especially difficult in Safari; worse still in Safari "Reader" where sub-heads in Reader-ized text are still paler.
Especially for older eyes this does not fly. This user is close to downgrading to Mountain Lion and Safari 6, where this was not a problem.
Stout rap on the nose: Jony Ive should be shorn of his glasses/contacts and forced to read only on these displays and OS versions until he cries out for the opthomalogist. One can only conclude this problem exists because those who came up with it were never in need of actually using it.
    Make the text BLACK.
It's the same story on our MacBook Airs and MacBook Pro.

  • When I open Safari I would like to show the google page. How?

When I open Safari, I would like the Google page showing. How do I do that?

Create a shortcut on the home screen.
Navigate to the Google site in Safari. Tap the Arrow icon next to the url field at the top and select - Add to Home Screen. That will put a shortcut on your home screen that you can tap on and it will open to that Google site.

  • Safari 6 feels like beta software! Eeek!

So I quickly installed Safari 6 on the day of release. I ended up with several problems.
    1. Safari 6 crashes alot more than Safari 5 did....particularly when the dev tools are turned on.
    2. Sometimes Safari 6 doesn't render the whole page. It's a really strange bug.
    3. Safari 6 is sometimes unresponsive?
    4. The dev tools don't make any sense. I was one of those who preferred to develop for Safari first. The tools seem like a HOT mess now. I like that they look new and all but they crash the entire browser or slow it down significantly at a time when I need it to work most.
It's like working with a slightly faster less stable version of FF. Its the most unstable Webkit release I've seen so far. I can't believe developers tested this out and thought it was ready to ship or maybe Apple just doesn't want developers developing for it's products. Safari 6 feels like self sabotage.

Please use the confidential forums in the Dev Center, thanks.

    hello
how to remove Ads by CouponDropDown on safari with mavericks like extensions remains empty
    thank you

Since I do not use Safari, I had no idea that was an extension, but that person should not be calling that a virus as that is a bit over the top; besides, I have extensions turned on precisely because I want Adblock and WOT to run.
If that is an extension, then it was installed and can be uninstalled which would appear to be a good way to handle it.
    @bragon18:
I'm on my Mountain Lion machine and I do have extensions showing on the left:

I'd first try a repair install of your Apple Application Support.
Restart the PC. Now head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select "Apple Application Support" and then click "Repair".
Can you launch Safari without the errors now?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you are running Lion or later:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Safari rendering pages incorrectly

Has anybody else experienced this? Any fixes???

    Dagwood -
The second attempt at screenshot works great.
    I now see what you're talking about . . .
Have you done these? If not, do so and report back, OK?
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    If you're still having problems:
    4. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
    Hope this helps

  • Safari rendering colors differently due to size.

    I have a circular image that is RGB: 235 0 28.
When this image is 150px X 150px or less Safari renders the RGB as: 203 29 38, as soon as it is 151px X 151px or larger it renders the RGB as: 235 0 28 which is what it is if I open the file in Photoshop.
I've tried this test with both PNGS and GIFS any thoughts?
    Safari is: Version 6.0.2 (8536.26.17) on 10.8.2.
    Thanks, Bill

Do you have a new URL? Did you clear your cache in Safari?

  • Why I can't switch to Safari, but would like to

I use FF on my macbook and I've tried Safari and like it, but this is what keeps me going back to Firefox. I have some issues in FF also, which Safari doesn't have and am trying to get to a single browser, if possible.
    1) I want tabs. Not just for links from Applications, but when I click on a link on a web page, I want it to open in a new tab not a window. Yes, I know I can Command-click to get it in a new tab. But, I shouldn't have to. I've told Safari, in Preferences that I want things to open in a new tab and I should be able to simply click on the link, not hold down another button and click.
    2) In FF, when I download my statements from my bank and my credit card company, it automatically loads Quicken. In Safari, it just downloads the file. I've set (in More Info) the QFX files to be opened by Quicken; but I can't get Safari to recognize the file as a "safe file". Is there a way to do this.
    3) Menu Customization. I'd like to have a button on the menu bar to create a new, blank tab. I know the key strokes to do it and that I can control click on the tab bar, but I'd like to have a button on the menu bar.
    4) Flash blocking. I can give up the ad blocks (don't want to, I love AdBlocker on FF), but I really want to block the flash items until I want to see them. in FF, I use Flashblock, which gives me a button to click on to display the flash item, if I want to. Is there a way to do this in Safari with a minimum of clicks?
As you can see from my issues, I like things easy and with minimal clicks.
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
There are a few components involved in this. One, is enabling folder actions, which you've already done. The second is writing an applescript to perform the desired action on files added to it, and saving it in your '/Library/Scripts/Folder Action Scripts/' folder. And finally, applying it to the download folder. To design a script, you'll have to use the Script Editor provided with Mac OS X.
I don't know much scripting myself, but to incorporate the information on Rubicode's website, and assuming Quicken is the default application associated with .qfx files, something along the lines of this should work...
on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving aFile
      tell application "Finder"
if the name of aFile contains ".qfx" then
set file type of aFile to "WBCN"
        end if
      end tell
      open aFile
    end adding folder items to
Of course, the above example is included only for its conceptual value. Results will vary. You'd do well to get input from someone's who's familiar with scripting. Also, I found this article on MacOSXHints which is probably related to what you wish to do. Of interest is that there is an added line which sets the creator type as well. Given the age of the article, I'm not sure if that is necessarily required.

  • Safari rendering default text with condensed font?

Has anyone else experienced this in the last few days?
All of a sudden Safari is rendering default text with a different font, a light, condensed one.
The side-by-side shows the Wordpress Admin menu on my Macbook & on my iMac.
The Macbook is still rendering as always, the iMac now has this new font.
Aside from within the Wordpress Admin area, I'm seeing the same thing in various other places you'd expect to see a default font, for default text.
It's not the end of the world but considering I haven't done anything to cause the change I'm concerned it's something malicious causing it,
    any insights anyone?
    Thanks in advance.

Installled any third party fonts lately?
    And check for duplicate fonts.
Open the Font Book in your Applications folder.
From the Font Book menu bar click Edit > Look for Enabled Duplicates
