Since downloading Mountain Lion, why is Safari running very slow?
You're going to have to be more specific and include some details.

3 year old iMac running very slow, freezing all the time. Advice?
My three year old iMac - 2.4Ghz processor, 2GB RAM, running Lion - is becoming almost totally useless. For many months it has been very slow, with multiple freezes, and then "force quits" on iPhoto and other applications.
First, I tried to free up some space - i now have about 44GB free. Then I ran disk utility etc, Then I ugraded to Lion.
But still I'm getting the same problems. Any suggestions? It sounds like your problems are more serious than a 'hardware upgrade' issue. My late 2008 MacBook 2.4GHz with 2GB RAM runs applications (and iPhoto) fine. In addition I have run OS X operating systems with little more than 5GB free hard drive space with no issue (being able to run advanced applications like Photoshop).
My advice- if you have simply upgraded to Lion keeping all your systems settings and files intact then you may want to perform a 'clean install', you'll backup your important data/files in order to transfer them back again into Lion. You could even create a Time Machine Backup and use this to move only your data and applications back into your clean install of OS X Lion. -
Safari running very slow after downloading Mountain Lion
Since downloading OS X Mountain Lion Sarfafi runs very slowly as though I have used up my data download allowance from my service provider. I have no proxies installed (not that I would know what this means) and the DNS entries are from my service provider. Is there any way to uninstall Mountain Lion so I can have my imac back to the way it was??? I really regret downloading it. on top of that, whilst it shows I have downloaded an app (mountain lion) on the App Store icon, it doesn't come up when I click on it.
If you're using iCloud, disable all its services and test.

Slow, Freezing up, Unexpectedly quitting...multiple problems
I am having terrible issues with PPro CS5.5.
Fisrt off when making the switch from CS5 to 5.5 I noticed right away it was much slower...I then started encountering my projects to quit unexpectedly, freezes up, can't load certain media or freezes up while opening a project. Rendering times are much slower even on a simple internal drive edit.
For this particular project I have been having no success with: I have my entire project on a external with firewire 800. I moved my entire project onto the internal drive and no issues were solved. I then decided to try and open the same project from the hard drive on another iMac running CS5. It loaded very quickly no issues.
This particular project has over 50gigs of footage with a couple sequences and a couple After Effects projects using Dynamic Link.
I am editing 1080 DSLR 24fps footage in a 1080 timeline.
I've never had issues like this in CS5. I can even remember about a year ago how my friend was able to edit off two USB self powered externals on a 5 year old Macbook Pro playing back heavily color corrected footage without rendering easily.
Specs of the two iMacs:
Running CS5.5 on a 2.5 Quad-core i5 with 4GB memory with the latest version of Lion.
Running CS5 with a single 3.2 i3 with 4GB memory with the latest Snow Leopard.
I know they are not crazy fast machines but I have never experienced PPro like this until I upgraded to CS5.5
Is it just CS5.5? or maybe 5.5 in conjunction with Lion?
I've had to switch back to FCP7...really Adobe?
Please help any solution much appreciated.terrible issues with PPro CS5.5.
two iMacs:
Somehow I knew I'd find the second sentence as soon as I'd read the first.
This whole post will likely end up deleted, but you still might see it before it goes away, so here it goes...
The move from FCP to PP was a good one, but it's only half way there. Finish the move and build yourself a new suitable Windows 7 machine. Install everything yourself from scratch. You're issues are almost certain to vanish. -
Mac running very slow during and after downloads (even if they are just small docs)
Hi,
I'm getting very frustrated with my MacBook. Whenever I download something, no matter how small the file is, the MacBook really slows down to the point that it is impossible to work on.
Any ideas why or what I can do to fix it would be much appreciated please.
Thank you! Thanks very much for getting back to me, really kind of you. I'd never done a system check before - here are the results:

I have had my mac for some time and of late it just keeps getting slower and slower. I think it is probably time to upgrade but is there anything I can to do speed things up? People keep telling me that I need to clean my mac up but not really sure what to do. I have ADSL2 internet and an Airport Express. Just seems to be that I spend my life watching the watching Safari 'loading' constantly. Even as I'm typing this the text is not keeping up to my typing speed. Also I often get the rainbow wheel spinning (yes v technical) while I'm trying to do something. I have quite a few songs in my itunes and photos in iphotos. Someone has suggested I put the photos on an external disk or flash drive. I have a 2GB flash drive - not sure if that is enough to hold my photos. I only use my mac for internet, emails, photos and itunes.
HI Scott,
A slow Mac can result from not enough disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.* If this iBook has the original drive which is probably the 60GB, keeping track of free disk space is a must.
Freeing Up Space on the Mac OS X's Startup Disk
If your iBook can burn to CD's then that's a good way to back up your iTunes and iPhoto libraries. To make sure your iBook can burn to a CD, open the System Profiler (Applications/Utilities).
Under Hardware on the left select Disc Burning. On the right where you see: Burn Support
it will say Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported CD-Write -R, -RW
For Safari...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash*

Safari won't open...freezes and then quits
I'm running 10.3.9 and whenever I open Safari, it will open, freeze and then quit. I have the Cubs home page as the default page but I can't keep Safari open long enough to change it.
I can't keep Safari open long enough to do anything, except submit more of those inane "Crash Reports" to Apple which probably don't do anything.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it? I've done Disk Utility and that hasn't helped.
Any thoughts?Hi econwriter5!
The first thing I would do is trash the Safari preferences, and Cache.
HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > CACHES
Trash:
Safari (Folder)
HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > SAFARI
Trash:
Icons (Folder)
History.plist (File)
HD > USERS > HOME > LIBRARY > PREFERENCES
Trash:
com.apple.Safari.plist
Good Luck!

Since several days ago Safari runs very slow. I have cleaned the computer, big files, reseted safari, turned off DNS, turned on again.. and many more tips found but no luck. I would apprecieate you help.
thanksIf you have not done so lately, empty the Safari cache. Press Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting plug-ins and extensions ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not a plug-in issue, select the Extensions tab. If there are any extensions installed, turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that made a difference, uninstall one at a time, quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the culprit.
When you post, it helps to tell us which OS X your Mac has installed, and in this case, which version of Safari.
Select About This Mac from your Apple menu to see the OS X version
For Safari click Safari > About Safari

HT1338 my mac pro started running very slow not all the time it is only 2 months old
My new macpro has been running very slow off and on (mostly on) it is only 2 months old I took it into the genius bar and they could not find anything wrong. I took it home and it ran fine for a short while then started up again. I have watched activity monitor and can see no direct corellation. Anyone have any ideas?
Did you install anything new lately?
Run any programs that purport to "clean", "speed up", or "optimize" your Mac -
Problem description:
(MacBook Pro 15” late 2008, OSX Yosemite 10.10.2 installed, no pending updates) computer is running very slow - takes 2-3 minutes to open apps such as Pages, even when no other apps are open. Randomly freezes and becomes unresponsive, requiring forced power down. Randomly logs off. Removed Kodak AIO software via Clean My Mac2, but BonjourAgent still there and requesting access. Cleaned weekly with Clean My Mac2 and running Sophos AntiVirus. 2GB memory installed. Currently 169.99 GB available of 249.2 GB capacity.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB RAM installed. The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

My macbook pro is running very slow with some strange mouse and window movements. The trackpad is very unresponsive and when responding the cursor moves on its own and/or very erratically. When on safari the window suddenly zooms in or highlights words and looks them up via dictionary. I currently have a wireless mouse connected and I am still having the same problems.
I fee like I may have a virus or my laptop is perhaps being accessed remotely. All of the sharing options are unchecked.
HELP PLEASE
Very worried!!Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo). -

Macbook is running very slow and pop-ups come up constantly while using both Safari & Chrome.
My 2008 macbook has a virus on it caused by me accidentally clicking a wrong download while making a mix tape for a friend ( I was using a website that is not illegal btw) and now my computer is running very slow. As well as having pop ups all over my chrome and safari with EVERYTHING I do. If someone out there could help me its very much appreciated as I am a college student with various online classes. I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5 currently.
Download the Adware removal tool on The Safe Mac site.

Keyboard monitoring VIs: revisited!
