Safari runs slow

Since installing Mountain Lion on my iMac, it seems that Safari is running slower and slower. It seems to find the site I want to visit, then loads a small amount of data, then sits for a long period of time and loads the rest quickly. I have also installed a new cable modem and Airport Extreme recently. I don't run the iMace over the wireless rather on Ethernet from the Airport Extreme. The new cable modem is set up for Docsys 3 and seems to be very fast at times when downloading on iTunes for example. Any ideas?

I signed up for the open DNS service and this seems to have sped up every thing on the net except my apple tv. It is updating its software now and we will see what happens with it!

Open up your Finder window & check the bottom of the window in the middle. It will tell you how much HD space you have left.

Empty the trash!
Open up your application folder & go through all your apps. Trash all the apps you no longer want and/or use.
An easier way to do this is to open the Application folder in list view & press the Command+j keys.
In the the dialog that appears, click the "This Window Only" button & the "Calculate All Sizes" check box.
Wait a bit until your file & folder sizes have all been calculated, then click the "Size" column to sort your apps from the fattest to the most anorexic.
Get rid of all your photo files you don't want and/or need. Same goes for those pics off the websites you downloaded (gifs, jpegs, etc.). Or transfer/move them all to a photo/movie storage site like ImageShack and Photobucket, 2 of the most popular FREE storage sites.
Get rid of all your video & music files you no longer view and/or listen too. Especially, if you already have the actual CD/DVDs or you can later redownload from a website. Or transfer them all to a FREE video/movies and/or music storage site.
Use Spotlight to make sure you got rid of everything. You can even trash directly from Spotlight!
Drag what you don't want and/or need to the trash. Better yet, download this neat little shareware app *demo* called AppZapper. It basically does all the work for you by not only trashing the apps but the apps preference files, caches & all its associated files.
Another software that does the above is AppDelete. Best of all this software is free!
Burn what you want and/or need onto CDs or DVDs. Not everyone has the luxury of purchasing an external HD and/or the system requirements for iCloud to store their "stuff.”
Dropbox is a free storage facility software.
You can check with your ISP to see if they offer *free* storage space. Most if not all do now-a-days. There are thousands if not millions of *free* storage facilities on the web also. Use your favorite search engine to search them out as they come in different storage sizes to fit your needs & wants.
Check for duplicate fonts.
Applications>Font Book
Select “All Fonts”
If you see any “black dots” next to any fonts this mean you have duplicates and/or multiple versions of these fonts.
To clean this up, select a “black dotted” font or the Apple + *click* to select multiple dotted fonts;
Edit>Resolve>Duplicates.
What the above does is turns off the duplicates & multiple version fonts. Not delete them.
More than likely the “extras” were installed by other programs and/or other users.
Clear out font caches
Use FontNuke. It does all the work for you. And, best of all it’s *FREE*.
Printer Drivers
Get rid of all the printer drivers you don’t need & use except the ones for your *current* printer(s)/scanner(s).
HD>Library>Printers Folder
If you accidently threw something out that you needed for your printer/scanner it can be easily obtained from the manufacturer’s website and/or from the CD that came w/the printer/scanner.
Garage Band
Has about 1GB of loops stored. Get rid of some some them. You surely don’t use, like and/or need them all.
HD>Library>Audio/Apple Loops>Apple>Apple Loops For GarageBand
Or just get rid of the Garage Band app altogether if you don’t use it.
Get rid of extra languages
Strip your computer down to your “native” tongue.
You can do this with a *FREE* utility called Monolingual. Another app that apparently does all the work for you. I’ve never used it. However, a lot of users here swear by & recommend it highly.
However, there is a warning for *native English speakers*. Make sure you keep BOTH English and English (United States).

Safari Running slow on OS X Yosemite?

Safari tends to run slow on OS X Yosemite. This happens most of the time when I'm running a Facebook tab (which "whites out") or watching a YouTube video (which is really choppy and "unsyncs" with the audio). The colored pinwheel becomes commonplace and the screen freezes. I thought it would be my internet connection but I've used other browsers such as Chrome and Firefox on the mentioned sites and it works perfectly fine. This problem has happened since I've updated my MacBook to OS X Yosemite back in October. Is this a general problem among all Macs with the latest Safari update Version 8.0.2 (10600.2.5)? If not, what could it possibly be?

Go step by step by step and test.
1. Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
    Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode.

2. Delete Caches.db
    Close all windows and quit all applications.
    Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
    Select "Library" from the dropdown.
    Library > Caches > com.apple.Safari > Caches.db
    Right click the Caches.db file and select "Move To Trash.
    Close windows and relaunch Safari.
3. Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
4. Delete Cookies
    Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:
    Click “Remove All Website Data”.
5. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    Turn off Extensions if any and launch Safari again to test.
    Turn on those one by one and test.

Safari Running Slower and Slower

Hello...No idea why, but Safari is running slower and slower lately for me on my MacBook Pro.
Any suggestions on how I may be able to troubleshoot this?

The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
form values
download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
com.apple.Safari.plist
Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

Why is Safari running slow on my MBP?

It just recently started to slow down. A few hours ago, I experienced it so I just turned off my MBP to, hopefully fix it, but Safari is still going slow. Yesterday, it was running fine and I was loading up pages fast. Now, when I ever I go to a new page or click a link, it pauses and the address bar above loads to about 3cm and the spinning color wheel spins for about 5 seconds until the new page loads. It does it for every thing I go to. Trying to ask this question probably took a minute to get to when it should only be a few seconds. I've tried Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox and it is fine. When I enter a web address or click a link, in a few seconds, the new page shows. I really don't want to move to a new internet source because all my bookmarks and saves is on Safari. Is there a way to fix this?

Since Safari freezes before you can troubleshoot, boot in Safe Mode then try troubleshooting Safari extensions and third party plug-ins.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.

Safari runs slow after installing mountain lion

Safari is running very slowly since I installed Mountain Lion. Any suggestions about why this is happening or how to improve the speed?

I ordered something from a website I haven't used before, and it was very slow, but I don't know if it's that website or safari. Safari is the only browser I use.

In your account, could be a third party Safari add on..
Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
And if you have any Extensions installed in Safari / Preferences - Extensions, turn that off, quit then reluanch Safari to test.
Try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari.
Select the top 5 boxes and the very last box. Click Reset
And try troubleshooting the Safari .plist
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
For LIon: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

Why does my safari run slow with DSL?

I recently had to change to DSL internet, and my macbook safari does not do well with it.
I cannot seem to open more than one internet tab at a time, videos do not load, slow loading time for searching.
Is there a way to fix this to where my safari is not so slow?
Is it a macbook fix, or should I increase my DSL usage limit?
My macbook is up to date.

Safari running slow

Since installing Leopard i have found Safari goes really slowly most of the time. If i do the same things through Internet Explorer on a PC it is normal speed so it is obviously not the line. Is there any know problem that causes this, does anyone know a fix? I have reset Safari a number of times with all options ticked but it doesn't do anything, i have also verified and repaired the disk permissions.

I installed Leopard (upgrade) on my old iBook last weekend and it ran really terrible- beachballs everywhere, I couldn't even use safari, it was that slow. This past weekend, I did a clean install of Leopard on the same machine and it's incredible. I love the 'autoclick' feature in Bookmarks, that allows me to simultaneously open all the tabs I have in a folder. I'd suggest if you did an upgrade, to spend the time backing up and do a clean install.

Safari running slow and not loading all of the page

A couple of days ago Safari, started to runn slow on some sites and won't fil the hole progress bar. for several minutes, leaving the website with bitts missing. Im also getting wre it won't load the pages at all. But when i try the site using firefox or Opera they work ok. When safari stop working its is as if safari is not requesting any data as i have a meter that checks my upload and download rates and it is not moving at all. But then next day safri will work ok on all sites and then stop with no worning.

Safari running slow/ spinning beachball

I have a Power Mac G5, non-Intel chip, so was not able to try Snow Leopard! However, since I wasn't going to be able to use Snow Leopard, or any future versions, I decided to get the last Safari for my system, Safari 4.0.3.
Since loading 4.0.3, it takes 3-10 seconds or longer, and sometimes the spinning ball/ loading icon just sits there and spins forever, or until I quit Safari and start over. This has been going on for several weeks.
Have done speedtest, 18.86 Mb/s download and .36Mb/s upload.
Plenty of Hard drive and ram space available.
Would appreciate any suggestions for getting my Mac to openning pages in the less than 1 second mode I'm used to!!!

The most recent version of Safari for Leopard 10.5.8 (and Tiger) is 4.0.4, not 4.0.3.
Try this:
Do you have enough RAM? Less than 1GB can cause slowness. Is your hard drive too full? Less than 15%, or 15GB, of free space can also cause slowness.
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:

I entered the codes 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. It has sped up my internet incredibly, but is this making my computer vulnerable to any type of threats?

DNS is not for wired OR wireless, the concept on name resolution is the same for both.
When you set the DNS entries on your laptop or desktop only, most likely your Airport and other devices in your network will still be using the DNS service from your provider, handed out via DHCP. If you however set the DNS servers on your Airport, all devices in your network will be using them [since most likely all devices in your network will be using a DHCP address and settings from your Airport].
Why better of? OpenDNS monitors DNS very closely. Bad sites can be filtered out, you can get a report of all sites accessed and you can set filters on specific kind of sites [pornographic, malware etc].
Besides OpenDNS often being faster then your local ISP. As always: YMMV.

IMac runs slow, restart solves for a few hours ...

Hi, for some week's my iMac has began to run slower. The browsers ( Firefox & Safari ) become unresponsive as do Finder, other App's and the computer generally until i have to force quit and restart. Then everything is fine for several hours until gradually the same issue reoccurs. The longer i leave it , the slower things become until i actually have to power down manually.
When i think back the problems may have started after i had issues with websites not loading properly ( Sky News Uk was my homepage ) I struggled to find a solution but eventually upgraded Adobe flash player for Mac and maybe Microsoft Silverlight and then the sites loaded correctly. I can't remember exactly but i'm pretty sure this was before the slowing down started to be a problem.
I apologize in advance for my poor technical knowledge but any help is appreciated.
