Safari's limitations never cease to amaze

You know what's interesting? Safari won't render the bar graph that AT&T makes of my iPhone data usage. I'm sticking to Chrome.

Doubt it has anything to do with a Safari limitation since it's working fine for me.

Sorry, I don't allow anything Google on my mac.

    Re Create the task:
    1. Open Safari
    2. Go to the desired website/address
    3. Click the send icon at the bottom (Square with arrow pointed up)
    4. Click Message
    5. Add contact in "To:" line
    6. Hit send
It locks up and lags here on me and the message never shows up at the contacts phone/imessage/etc.

    Hi,

Move the Safari app from the Desktop to the Applications folder.
    Restart your Mac.
    That's why you see this:
When I try to do the updates my computer says it has ready it goes through like it is downloading them then at the end it says some of the files could not be saved to "/" files.
After your restart your Mac, click the Apple  menu (top left in your screen) then click:  Software Update ...

  • Safari history limited to 100000 items

Why is Safari history limited to 100000 items although set to be removed manually? Is it a bug?
This happens in Safari 6.0.1 (8536.26.14) and OS X 10.8.2 but also happened in 10.7 — but it didn’t AFAIR prior to 10.5.

I have done a bit of digging and contributor LeonieDF has come up with this:
    How about this:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2008/09/04/terminal-tips-change-safaris-history-limit/
    Limit to number of items:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitHistoryItemLimit 2000
    Limit to number of days:
    defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitHistoryAgeInDaysLimit 30
It has been tested and does not balk at 200,000.
So you could try setting it at 1,000,000! Post back in a few years to tell us if it worked!

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Hopefullly this will help... I can feel your frustration.
Uninstall and reinstall a fresh version of Flash Player Plugin.
    Uninstall Flash
    Reinstall Flash
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations
Also, if you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Quit Safari then relaunch.
    And repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Safari constantly freezes - never happened to this extent before!

    Hi,
I recently updated Safari and since then have been facing constant freezing several times a day. I've never had to force quit Safari so frequently before. It hasn't crashed yet, so I don't think I have a crash report to provide.
How can I fix this and is there a way I can revert back to the older version of Safari 3 if this cannot be resolved??
Thank you in advance for your help!!

For now, I guess I'll resort to turning off JavaScript, but (pardon my ignorance, I'm really not knowledgeable in this stuff at all) isn't it pretty essential during web browsing?
But more importantly, I am guessing that many of us have an older version OS and that may be a factor in our Safari issues? Will we be notified when there is a way to fix this...??
I really hope this issue is resolved soon; I really prefer using Safari but may have to resort to Firefox soon =/

  • Why did Safari suddenly start "never" accepting cookies?!?

Two days ago, Safari suddenly by default is set to "never" accept cookies whenever I load safari. I always have it set to the cookies setting "Only from sites I visit". Every time I use Safari now, I have to manually change it back from "never" to "Only from sites I visit".
I've deleted the plist file and cache. What else can I do to fix this?

I've deleted the plist file and cache.
If you are referring to the com.apple.Safari.plist file try this instead...
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the LIbrary folder then the Cookies folder.
Move the Cookies.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Launch Safari. Go to the Preferences / Security pane. Make sure Only from sites I visit is selected.
    See if it will stay.
if not, check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Could be an Extension over riding your Cookies preferences. If you have any Extensions installed, turn that off, see if it makes a difference.

  • Safari slow or never starts forcing a hard shut down

Safari is slow to start initially and sometimes (quite often) never starts and the rainbow spinning cursor just keeps on spinning until I am forced to hold the off button down and force a shutdown.  Safari usually starts (though slowly) thereafter.
    I am running OS X Yosemite on a Macbook Mid 15" 2010.
I have looked at my DNS servers which are the same as for my Firefox browser and in the same order.  Firefox has no problem.
    Thanks

I have no extensions - The extensions are all set to 'off' in the preferences tab. I've turned off my iCloud links and tried several fixes including Java and Flash cleanouts and updates (wasted time) however Safari is really really very slow and often becomes unresponsive.
Several posts suggest the simple fix is to dump Safari and use Chrome or Firefox.  I've found Chrome really quick.  I'd like Safari to work
Any suggestions advice on reinstalling Safari welcomed
    Thanks

On my Iphone4 3G, which I have upgraded to 6.0, and, have had many issues but this is my main concern: Everytime I go to Safari (or dif. sites) I get msge that reads "cannot connect to server", today it upgraded to "that msge plus this "the internet is offline". How do I get it back online?

  • Safari history limited to 2 days

    Hi folks
I am not sure if it has resulted from me having tinkered with the cache in Macjanitor, Cocktail or System Optimizer X but whatever I seem to have done my Safari app (2.0.1) won't appear to hold more than a couple of days history at a time (whereas Explorer appears unaffected with history dating back weeks)
Any advice or suggestions as to how to rectify this would be most gratefully received, as I'm in the dreadful habit of thinking I don't need to add any more to my huge list of bookmark because the relevant page will still be in my history and this is proving to be a real pain in the backside
Many thanks in advance as ever for any assistance you can lend
    Big Love
    Bernard

Thanks a million Yang for bothering to get back to me. I will give this a go, although to be honest I'm extremely useless when it comes to using lines of code type commands in terminal (being a technological nincompoop was one of the reasons I originally became an Apple Mac afficionado
It's also occured to me that I have another problem when using Safari.
With certain web sites, if I click the "refresh" button, it appears to refresh from the cache, rather than the latest version of the web site. I only know this to be a fact because there have been occasions when others have told me that a certain page has been updated, when according to my machine it remains the same as before
If you have any suggestions as to how I can cure this I would also be extremely grateful, since the last thing I want is to go back to being another Explorer lemming
Again thanks a million for your assistance
    Kind Regards
    Bernard

  • Safari and the never ending spinner

I ran into a Safari spinner issue today. I was able to access a site via FF but Safari was just spinning. The site was https and a site that I had accessed months ago in Safari but had since changed IP addresses. I tried to reset Safari and I did a
    dscacheutil -flushcache
    Still just a spinner.
Then I tried https://urlofsite.com/login, still spinner, so I clicked the stop button, manually edited the url to take off everything but https://urlofsite.com/ then hit return and presto, the confirm dialog for the certificate came up and I was on my way.
Turns out Safari was displaying the spinner and thought it was displaying the drop down certificate confirmation dialog, the one that animates out of the window header bar, but it wasn't there and the only way to get it to come up was to follow the steps above.
    Weird stuff.
I hope this helps others with similar issues

    hello,
I'm running into the very same problem, got this kind of issue with some https websites.
    Note that :
    - firefox works fine with theses https sites,
    - safari seems to work fine with http sites,
    - other macos apps seems to have troubles reaching https site (gmail notifier for instance)
    - I can't reach https websites at work where I'm behind a Squid http proxy.
Got this issue on a brand new 10.5.3 (leopard fresh install + combo update)

  • Safari autofill password never updates

I use Autofill on Safari (Version 7.0.6) and I've recently changed my password on one website I use regularly.
I am given the option of 'Do you want to update the saved password for "......"?' and I choose update password, but, ever since I am asked this for this one website every single time I go to it.
If I say 'Not Now', then the password that Autofill uses is incorrect, so I can't win. I have also tried deleting this site from Safari Preferences Passwords list, then entering my credentials on the site, and Safari asks if I want to Save the Password again and I do, but the same thing happens, every single time I go to the site it asks if I want to update the password. It's driving me nuts!
Does anyone now how I can update my password for this one site once and for all so Safari doesn't keep asking if I want to update it (Or, make it so it accepts the changes that I do update?)
    Thanks in advance.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
    If the box marked
              Keep login keychain unlocked
    is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Safari 4 beta never launches

After coming into work Monday, I noticed an error message saying that Safari had crashed and asking whether I wanted to submit the report to Apple. I did so. After that, whenever I click on the icon, the hourglass appears for <1 second and then disappears. No Safari. I made no changes from Friday to Monday. What gives?
I can't even report it, because the browser won't launch. I uninstalled, reinstalled and nada.

I downloaded the combo, restarted, than used repair and it didn't help.
Some odd bits though is the last three times I've used repair permissions I've gotten the same result. I don't know if this accounts as weird, but the rest of my computer hasn't had a problem:
