Safari Scrolling Demons

Safari has begun to act really really screwy. When I scroll, either with the scroll wheel on my mouse, or with the scroll arrows at either end of the thumbwheel, parts of the page I'm on will scroll at different rates than other parts. Mostly picture blocks will stay stationary while text scrolls, but the whole screen can almost disintegrate with various 'particles' of different areas appearing at will. I've trashed prefs, repaired permissions, even trashed Safari entirely and reinstalled from Apple's support download. Same same. Anyone have any ideas? I use Firefox as an alternative, but I actually like Safari better (Firefox doesn't respond to keyboard commands)and would like to see it work properly again. Thanks.

Hi Bee-
Like I said, I trashed everything to do with Safari on this drive and reinstalled from scratch, after having reset the old copy, trashed the icons folders, and emptied the cache. But I went ahead and did all that on the new copy anyway, and still same same. I installed the 10.3.9 combo update awhile ago and had terrible trouble with QuickTime, so I just cloned my backup onto the main hard drive again and have left it at that ever since. I've been intending to leapfrog 10.3.9 and go directly to Tiger, but I've been waiting for all the bug fixes, since my system up to now has been behaving splendidly, and I didn't and don't want to hassle with the 10.3.9 bugs again. This happened all at once with no warning and with no other apps acting up whatsoever, and I can't think of anything I might have updated which might be playing poorly with Safari. I'm stumped.

  • Safari Scrolling Down The Page Automatically

Why is Safari Scrolling Down The Page Automatically? This started 3-Days ago... Also we keep getting the "MacKeep - PopUp" Everytime we Click on an Item in the Original Screen.
We have All the Latest Update for OS X 10.9.5
This is Clearly a Software Issue I have spoken to others who are experiencing the same.
How do we Fix This Bug in Safari?

You may have installed the "VSearch" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot," "Trovi," or "Conduit" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Reset the home page and default search engine in all the browsers, if it was changed.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "com.vsearch.agent.plist" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ConduitNPAPIPlugin.plugin
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that this Internet criminal has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Why does TextEdit & Safari scroll on their own?

Why do TextEdit & now Safari scroll on their own?  (That's both Up & Down and Side to-Side.  I don't need to use my mouse.)  It is so frustrating.  [As it scrolled on its-own when I typed this very message, several times.]
Maybe I need a new copies?  Grrr!  :-(  Hey Apple, I feel that I deserve better!  Gosh:  I paid to get this?  <Gruff!>
[My first Apple was a MacPlus, which I bought in 1984.]

I noticed an error in grammar after I posted my original message.  At-first my complaint was about TextEdit, alone.  Then Safari acted-up & I forgot to change Does to Do.

  • Upgraded to snow leopard, now safari scrolls a page down when space bar is hit and sometimes crashes.  Any ideas for a fix?

I just upgraded to the new snow leopard, now my Safari is acting loopy.  At times, the page will scroll down when I hit the space bar.  As I type this discussion the screen isn't paging down, but if I go to the tab where I have facebook loaded and hit the space bar, it acts as a page down key.  I've had safari crash about 5 times tonight for no apparent reason.  The delete key sometimes will act as a page back key.  I really have no idea whats going on.
I've had keyboards go wacko on me before due to something being spilled on them or a wireless problem, but this keyboard is a wired keyboard and nothing was spilled on it.  It's rather new and I'm quite certain it's not a keyboard issue.
No settings have been changed on the computer.  The only thing different today from yesterday, is the fact that I upgraded to snow leopard.
    Help would be pretty sweet.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Safari scroll speed

    Macbook Pro - OS X Version 10.9.1
    Safari - Version 7.0.1 (9537.73.11)
Is there a way to set a finite value to the relationship of (scroll speed) vs. (document length)?
If the page is medium size I enjoy the two finger scroll, but as the webpage/docuent becomes longer the scroll speed increases and becomes difficult to control.
    Thanks,
    Joe
PS  I also think the scroll bar should include the arrows.  I like the new clean look, but wonder if the resources and extra code is worth my user experience satisfaction to program in a set of 'hover-to-appear' scroll arrows.  I like the no scroll bar.  I like the no scroll bar then shows up when two finger scrolling.  I like the hover and lock feature when the scroll bar is visible.  I think this is when the arrows should be visible.  Or even one step further; the arrows should become visible when the mouse hovers near the top or bottom of the screen.  Again, this is useful for longer documents.  The grab and drag method is difficult to control when the scroll bar is tiny and the smallest movement conducts multiple pages of scrolling.

You can also do a single tap, which takes half the time.

  • Viewing mac's webmail in safari - scroll bar issues

i've noticed that the apple site and .mac have had a makeover in the last few days.
    it's a nice upgrade, but i'm having problems viewing my .mac webmail with safari;
i have webmail set up with 3 panes; left hs are folders, top is messages and bottom is preview. however now the scrollbars do not allow me to scroll to the end of the message preview. instead, when the scroll bar is at the bottom of the window i have only scrolled through part of the message!
does anyone know if this is a mail or safari issue, and how to fix it - it's very annoying!
(i would use the mail app but i'm behind a firewall and can't configure it, so i have to use safari and webmail)

This forum is for discussing issues related to the Mail & Address Book applications included with Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger). If you’re not talking about Mac OS X’s Mail, but .Mac mail on the web instead, the right forum for such questions would be .Mac Email On The Web.

  • Strange...safari scrolls all the way down on random pages...

It seems that with one page or two, Safari loads them just fine, but upon completion of loading, it instantly moves to the bottom of the page...
this is VERY frustrating. Everytime I load the page I have to manually scroll back up. The page that this always happens with is torrentspy.com (no, not used for the torrents, but for their news).
Could someone check to see if it's just me, or does safari just have a problem with torrentspy? Thanks.

  • Anyone noticed Safari scrolling too fast (Magic Mouse)?

Has anyone reading this noticed that scrolling with a Magic Mouse, while in Finder, other Apps (or Browsers such as Chrome and FF) is commensurate with the Scroll settings set in System Preferences \ Mouse \ Scrolling, but that in Safari, those settings are greatly amplified, or multiplied, making scrolling wildly unpredictable, frustrating, and basically useless?
The behavior I'm experiencing is that even the gentlest and shortest distance vertical touch will scream up, or down, the page, past the content displayed in between.
I noticed this behavior, while still evident, is slightly muted when scrolling with the mouse is applied to (or over) the blue scroll bar, but nowhere near what one might qualify as normal.
This is with Safari 5.0.3 (6533.19.4) and OS X 10.6.5.
    Hardware details:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro2,1

    HI,
Login to another user account and try scrolling Safari there. If it's ok there, then it's your just the one user account that's effected.
In that account try emptying the Safari cache, Command + Option +E. Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari scrolling is very slow

I got my mac mini about 3 months ago and I had gotten used to using safari and everything worked perfect with it but now for the past 2 weeks is has gone unbelievably slow whilst scrolling as is jumps but only small ones and can take like 4 seconds to react. I have tried resetting safari and also uninstalling and downloading the latest one but still no look so now I have had to resort to google chrome but I dont like it and want safari back. Please can anyone help me out with this. It would be much appreciated. Thank you

See the "System Freezes Randomly after 10.6.3 Update" thread. This may reflect some of the problems you have seen. It certainly reflected the frustrations and crashes I was experiencing.
Apple recently (12 April 2010) released an 10.6.3 v1.1 Update (build 10D578). I downloaded ( http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1017 ) this latest update and it DOES solve my freezing problems. My iMac pro runs great now. I hope this information is useful.

  • 20 inch Duo Safari scroll box drag related jumbled display rectangles

    Hi,
I was an early poster regarding the speed bump issue.
There is a related issue I've seen infrequently, maybe a few
    times a day.
I've found if I scroll in Safari by slowly dragging the scroll box,
I'll intermittently see a region of jumbled copy rectangles
below and to the right of where
the speed bump appears. I sometimes drag slowly because it
lessens the speed bump effect. As noted in other threads, using
the scroll button on my Mighty Mouse has neither of these problems,
though (to my eyes) the scrolling is not quite as smooth
as when I drag the scroll box.
Now the unfortunate thing about this case is that when you stop
scrolling the display remains jumbled/corrupted, unlike the speed
bump case. I tried to shoot a screen image of this via, ShiftOption4,
but as I dragged the mouse the highlighting of the region "fixed" the
    display refresh.
    Anyone else see this?

Nope. My iMac does not do that. Sorry to hear that you are having a problem . Did you try repairing permissions or running the Apple Hardware Test? This could tell you if it is a software or hardware problem.

  • IOS Safari scrolling

I've noticed an issue with safari on iOS 8 where I'll refresh a news page and start scrolling down on the page, will be in the middle of reading info, and safari brings me to the top of the page! It is so frustrating to be in the middle of reading something and have this happen EVERY TIME! This did not happen prior to iOS 8.  Apple, please fix this!

Note that if you touch the top of the screen Safari will scroll back to the top of the page. Make sure that you are not doing this.
Note also that some web pages are set up to periodically automatically refresh.
I haven't seen the problem that you describe what news page are you viewing?
