Safari search bar searches google russia

I have just had a problem with safari. When I use the search bar it searches using google russia. I have solved the problem by resetting safari but I wanted to know what causes this and specifically is it a security issue.

Hello Buzzinhornet,
This is what Safari's default googe bar looks like w/out add ons , as you describe yours.
Did you check your google bar Preferences, & click save preferences, before resetting Safari?
p.s , do you use DNS values in System Preferences->Networks->Show: Airport or Ethernet ->TCP/IP-> DNS Server:? Can be helpful if you find you are being highjacked, or redirected.

  • How can I keep my search bar on Google and NOT Aol?

After I downloaded the latest version of AIM, my Firefox search bar keeps changing to Aol search. I loathe it. Everyday I do the about:config and change it back to Google and everyday it changes back to Aol! What can i do since changing it to Google obviously doesn't work

    Hi Roxanne,
Have you scanned your computer recently for malware?
Download this tiny program called Gooredfix from here http://jpshortstuff.247fixes.com/GooredFix.exe
Once downloaded, close all Firefox windows.
Open the GooredFix.exe file, and in the little black box that appears, press 1 and enter.
A white window will pop up. See if anything is found under the heading ==Suspect Goored Entries==. If so, open the GooredFix.exe file again and press 2 and enter.
Open up FireFox and see if your still having issues.
Also best to check your installed programs and uninstall anything you don't want in there. Also, do the Malwarebytes scan and virus scanning in Safe Mode if possible.
Let me know if that helps--if not we'll try something else.

  • Safari address bar search behaviour

    Hi,
I am a recent convert to the Mac platform and since moving over I have experienced a number of problems with Firefox. The most marked problem is very poor flash video (YouTube) performance i.e. choppy & stuttering playback until entire video has been loaded, but overall it is slow and sometimes hangs (spinning ball) for no apparent reason.
I have tried Safari and have found it's performance to be wonderful compared to Firefox, and there are no problems with flash video. However I have some issues with the address bar search behaviour and I am wondering whether this is normal or not.
In Firefox, when I type something into the address bar, search results from history and bookmarks appear. The same thing happens in Safari, but it seems the only way to get a bookmark to appear is to type the actual domain address, not the name of the bookmark. Also, if a bookmark has a subdomain other than www, then that must be typed otherwise the address won't appear.
For example, if I have a bookmark as follows:
    Apple - Support - Discussions - Forum Home - http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa
I can't bring that site up by typing apple, support or forum in the address bar, I have to type the subdomain name discussions in order for it to appear.
I am posting to ask whether this is normal behaviour and whether it can be changed so that address bar search can include the bookmark name as well as the domain name itself. Thanks for your help,

Yes, it's perfectly normal; and no, you can't change the behavior to recognize the page name of the actual URL. You can always send feedback to Apple and request that feature; they might actually do it sometime in the future. Use this URL:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

  • My search bar in google now turns blue and I can not see what I am typing. Why? I read somewhere it's a problem with Firefox. Is there a fix for this?

I'm not sure exactly when it happened, but one day my Google search bar turned blue when I tried typing in it. I couldn't see what I was typing. I did some research and some forums said it was a problem with Firefox. Have you heard of this? Is there a solution for it?
    Thank you for your help.

For me, the google search bar turns blue once I've typed in a search term, but then want to click on it again to change or add something. The entire bar turns blue. I can still type, but it's hidden. Then when I click Search, it does bring up my search results and now the terms I've written are showing in the search bar, with no blue.
The only way to get out of it when the blue is there, is to reload the page.

  • Firefox CTRL+F Search bar searching with Case Sensitive

is this only for me or all ?
Fiefox search bar is working with case sensitive.. if i type in capital.. it is only showing the results with capital.
for example. Type "vishnu" in search bar. it will only show you the small vishnu below.
    VISHNU vishnu
is it a bug ? or is it a feature ? if it is a feature, i want to disable it :(

You can remove the check-mark on Match Case if you open the Find bar via Ctrl+F (Edit > Find).

  • Safari search bar autofills Google

I'm on Lion OSX 10.7.3 Macbook Pro late 2011
it's very weird. so far, i think i've only had this problem on Google. I'll type something in the search box and press enter and everything seems fine. I get the correct results. then i'll go and click in the search box again to enter a new search and all of a sudden it will completely change the search keywords I've entered. After reading an observation of this on another post in the forum (someone in Snow Leopard actually had this problem last month) i realized that it was indeed collecting what was in the upper right corner search box of the safari browser and transferring it over to the Google searchbox without me even commanding it to do so.
I believe that this is an event driven error. some action listener or action performer is bugged and when you click enter in the search box on the website, it takes whatever is in the browser's toolbar search. I can't tell if this is a browser issue, or a website issue. Maybe it has something to do with Safari's response to javascript or something because I haven't had this happen on firefox so far.
I should mention that i've only noticed this happening within the last week or so. This didn't happen when I first started using this computer, a month ago.
Maybe this has something to do with a recent update to either safari or google. I honestly can't tell if this is a safari issue, a google issue, or an incompatibility between the two of them.
and no, this is not just some Google Instant issue. I've seen what Google Instant does, this is completely different. You click in the the textfield search box and it like completely changes without the autofill suggestions.

  • Change google search bar to google.co.uk

    Hi
Very frustratingly the safari google search box seems to default to google.com, when I would like to have it picking up UK results through google.co.uk
Has anyone got any ideas how you would change this? Presumably you should also be able to change the default to Yahoo or some other search engine too.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
although this can be done by changing things manually, it's not ideal & you'd likely be better looking at a third party app that will do this for you; there are quite a few.... but Safari Enhancer does what you want + other 'useful' things & is free, or rather donations are invited if you really like it.
check to see if any of the versions work on 10.0.x, if that's what you're using.

  • I cannot find a DJVU reader plugin nor any information about this from the search bar although google search turned up old discussions on this. Why no plugin?

There is nothing appearing when I search for plugins with DJVU as topic. How can this be? I see that there are separate programs such as Caminova that come with plugins, but I do not want to install a program, only a plugin.

okay, but i cannot install exe files because i am not admin. So I have to rely on whatever my admin gives me. It seems like a reader as a plugin should be available without doing a software install. IMHO

  • When I load my google homepage, the cursor remains in the address bar, not in the search bar of google... some people seemed to have this problem with version 3.6, but I am still facing it wih 9.0.1...could anyone help me ?

I tried the extension 0.4.3 which I found in a forum, but it did not work...I have foxtab add on installed... and adblocker...

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Discontinued Search Bar Search Engine installed on my XP laptop, can I copy it to my Win7 (tower) install? [If so, how?]

There is a search engine that was available for a time, that I installed on my laptop (running Windows XP). [The engine was for EpGuides.Com... it was a modified Google search where "allintitle: site:epguides.com " is auto-inserted before the search term.] After using it for a while, I realized just how useful it would be on my 'home' computer (tower) which is running Win7.
Other than copying my ENTIRE install from Program Files on the XP to Program Files (x86) on the Win7, is there another way to get that search engine copied over or installed? I looked for a '.xml' file named "epguides" [actually did a search of the entire install for as little as "epg"] and nothing could be found.
There is a currently-available Search Engine for TVRage (the only thing that turns up when searching the add-ons page for 'epguides'), but that doesn't get me to the information I need. It ends up faster going to EpGuide's search page and going from there. But since I know the search engine exists in my other install, I was hoping I could somehow 'extract' and 'transplant' it into this one.
Thank you to anyone who can help!

NEVERMIND! After submitting this, I just started randomly reading help requests that might be 'interesting', and found one about someone who'd had a Search Engine hijacked [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/757307?s=%22Search+Engines%22+%22Search+Bar%22&as=s]. From the information given to them, I was able to figure out how to find the elusive "epguides.xml" file and copy it over and it works perfectly!
I figured I'd post this as a reply, rather than edit the original, because - seeing it was responded to - it would reduce the chance of someone opening this to answer it. But it might also help someone with a similar question.

  • I can't edit the google search bar since ios 6 upgrade

Since upgrading my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 I can't edit the search bar in google (via Safari).  I.e I used to be able to do a search then hold my finger over the text I just entered and the magifier would appear and I'd be able to edit that text (to correct a spelling mistake for example).
If I use Yahoo or Bing, I can edit the search bar as I've always been able to do.  It's just google.  I don't mind using another search engine, but it's niggling me as to why this has happened.
Incidently, I tried the same thing on my son's iPhone 4 with iOS 6 and it works fine.  I've since done a full system erase and restore and the problem remains!

Same here -- two iPhone 5's and an iPhone 4S.  The search box on the bottom of the page works OK, though.

  • Safari search bar stuck on yahoo?

My safari search bar seems to be stuck on Yahoo. I changed the default in Safari preferences to have the search bar be Google, but it hasn't changed. Any suggestions?

You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
If you find Apple's instructions too hard to follow, ask for an alternative that doesn't require you to trust a black-box application without knowing what it does.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
