Safari/ Search Box/ Keyboard Arrows
It seems the last 10.5 update changed Safari's functionality with the keyboard arrows... Previously these arrows worked as they do in most text applications which speeds up navigation through text. Presently use of keyboard arrows inside the Search box of Safari will instead jump into a menu of recent user searches....
Is there a way to revert to the ordinary use of keyboard-arrows?
Is there a way to deactivate menu jumping?
Thanks for any insight.
It seems then the only answer is to stop using built-in-google search and instead make a preferred book mark (on safari Bar) for a search engine which allows standard text-uses during searches.
Not sure which other search engines are worthy--
Unfortunately it would seem that it is "google. com" which has deactivated normal text uses of the arrow keys-- In that bookmarking "google.com" operates the same, skewed way, regarding key-bord arrows.

I have had this problem since my latest IOS update. Today I went to my local Sydney Apple store. This is what they did and the problem is solved.
open Safari....Google.
find the Settings cog wheel top right.
touch the wheel, select Search Settings and select NEVER SHOW INSTANT RESULTS.
Save.
IT worked for me. -
Search box not displaying correctly in Safari
How can the search bar on the Apple site not display correctly in Safari? I find this odd that Apple would allow this. It displays like 2 search boxes overlapping each other. It still functions correctly but it is a little embarrassing since I am always bashing windows pro browser display.

Might be a corrupted cache or cookies issue. First, go to Safari Preferences>Security>Show Cookies. Type Apple in the Spotlight panel. Highlight/remove the cookies. Then, go to the Safari Menu>Empty Cache. Try the Apple site.
If the double search panel still appears, go to the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Caches. There, move to the trash the com.apple.safari file. Restart Safari and try the Apple site again.

When I go to certain sites on the web which have search boxes, Firefox will pop up the onscreen keyboard as the page load completes, without me doing anything to focus the search box. It's annoying to have to tell the keyboard to go away each time before I can navigate in the page.
I specified the device I am using (Galaxy Tab 2 7 inch) because it uses a nonstandard keyboard applet, called simply the Samsung Keyboard, which could be doing something different than the regular Android one. I don't have the option of switching to the stock Android keyboard.That won't help iamjayakumars. That pref blocks popup windows on load. The keyboard is not a popup window.
This behavior happens because the website sets focus to a text box on the page. Firefox is following the standard behavior for desktop browsers. -
Safari keeps crashing when I type in a "Search" box

How do I get the arrow keys to move one character at a time in the address bar or search box?
I can no longer get the arrow keys to advance or retard "one character at a time" in the address bar, the search box, or on any form in Firefox. This feature works in other browsers without a problem. The "Home" and "End" keys do not work either. How do I fix this behavior?
How do I configure the AX to connect to the hub's wireless network? It will only scan one base station Airport Express at a time in the Airport Utility. I think what I am trying to do is use the hub as a router to the two AX's. Is there a specific way to set this up?
To set up the AX to join a wireless network as a "Wireless Client," using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
Launch the AirPort Utility.
Select the AX.
If not already connected to the AX's wireless network, go ahead and switch to it when prompted.
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
Network Name: <type in the network name/SSID of the wireless network that you want to join or select it from the pop-up menu>
Wireless Security: None OR, if you are using security on your wireless network:
Wireless Security: <Select the appropriate level of security for the existing wireless network: WPA/WPA2 Personal | WPA2 Personal>
Password: <enter your wireless network security password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the same security password>
Click Update to write the new settings to the AX. -
Can the Google search box in Safari be made to use the UK Google search page?
I've only just realised, (after nearly eight months of Mac ownership!), that my Google search results seem to be rather US-oriented.
I think this is because the search box in Safari, which I do have set to Google as my default, is using the US Google.com search engine instead of the Google.co.uk one.
Am I correct in thinking this? And, if I am, is there any way of tweeking Safari to use the UK version please?
I'm using Safari 5.0.5If you want to fix your Google search to a specific Google location, I recommend that you download and install the free plug-in Glims:

Google search box in Safari not displaying matches
Hello,
I just did the latest Software Update on both my MacBook Pro and iMac (the update was a new iTunes--version 10.3). I'm not sure why this is happening, but when I use the Google search box (located in the upper-right corner of the Safari window), I no longer see a list of possible matches to what I'm typing. Both of my computers now do not display them, yet it has always done this in the past.
Does anyone have a solution to this, or do you know what happened?
Thank you very much.My guess is Google did something wrong, figured it out and fixed it. The suggestions feature went away in Safari for Google, but not for bing, and continued to work in Firefox. It is all fixed this morning. I happened to be using Google when it stopped functioning, it had nothing to do with updates to the Mac, since as it went south I restarted in an earlier Snow Leopard version and discovered it was not working there either. So it was a Google action that caused the mishap, nothing that Apple did. Anyway, all's well now.

Make google.co.uk default in search box in safari
I was hoping that by version 4 of safari we really should be able to change the search engine in the search box. I am happy with it searching google but it searches google.com not google.co.uk!
This is such a simple thing, but leaves anyone outside of the US with an unusable feature.
Apple seems to neglect the non USA customers generally, such as with the US english dictionary.
Anyone have any suggestions or know how to make a request to apple?HI,

Keyboard shortcut to place cursor in Effects and Presets search box?
Hi!
Is there is a keyboard shortcut that will place the cursor in the search box of the Effects and Presets panel? Ctrl + 5 activates the panel, but I still need to click to get the cursor into the search box and be able to type my search. I have RSI and am trying to learn to use keyboard shortcuts as much as possible. My system is AE CS6 on Windows. I've searched the help reference on keyboard shortcuts and haven't been able to find anything.

Is there a shortcut (or a way to create one) that will let me place the cursor in the search box of the effects and presets panel? I'm now on CC 2014, and still hate having to reach for my mouse every time I use the search. I can't believe I'm the only person who would love this shortcut...

Under the View dropdown menu select Customize Toolbar... Then drag the Address and Search bar to the same location it was on the top. You probably accidentally dragged it off the screen. -
Recent searches will not clear from the search box in Safari
Hi,
I've been trying to get my recent searches to clear in Safari from the search box at the right corner of the browsing window. So far, I have tried the following:
1. "Clear recent searches" in the menu that appears when you click on the magnifying glass.
2. Changing my preferences not to auto fill other forms (after deleting everything that was already listed as auto-fill).
3. Deleting Google cookies (since I use the Google search in that search box).
4. Clearing the history.
5. Emptying the cache.
6. Resetting Safari entirely.
7. Throwing .plist files for Google and Safari into the trash (and restarting after all of these).
8. Completely dumping all Safari files and the application in the trash and then reinstalling Safari.
And yet my first searches from a year and a half ago are still showing up in recent searches. It won't get rid of the initial ones even if it does delete any recent searches from the past few weeks--they just get replaced with whatever I searched when I first got the computer.
Any suggestions? I'm about ready to trash Safari entirely and just go with other browsers exclusively.

There are only three possibilities. Either a dangling hand hitting the c key, or if you have a bluetooth keyboard connected and something is pressing a key, or you have some bad harware. Eliminate the first two, and if you still have the problem, take it in for service or replacement
