Safari showing text as boxes with A in them after upgrade to OSX lion

Hi,
After upgrading to OSX Lion and the new Safari that comes with it 6.0. It is showing a lot of the charachters on some websites as a box with a capital A in them. These are then pastered all over the site.
If i go to other browsers it is fine. Also when i copy and paste these A boxes it to the search bar it shows the correct text. But when viewing the page it is impossible to view the text and makes for an unpleasant browsing experience.
Any idea how to fix this issue? Is it a font issue? I have not changed any of my fonts and I would assume that the browser would be using a standard web font.
Any help on solving this riddle would be appreciated.
Thank you.

  • Dashboard widget with streaming video breaks after upgrade to Mountain Lion

Hi.  I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.  Under SL, I had an OS X widget that was a web clipping of a streaming mpeg image being produced by a Linksys/Cisco WVC54GCA web camera.  When I brought up the dashboard, the OS would start streaming the data from the mpeg filename, which looks like "hostname.com/img/video.mjpeg".
After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I noted that the widget never fully loads, indefinitely displaying a "Loading Clip..." mesasge.  After deleting and re-adding, I can still get as far as adding the web clipping to the dashboard at the right dimensions, but there's no content.
Unfortunately the camera unit doesn't provide for the display of HTTP access logs, so I can't see if there's an issue there, but my understanding is that if I can display the image in a Safari browser, it should work just fine in Dashboard too.  (I did make sure that, where needed, the username/password for accessing the video are included in the URL.)
I did sniff the network traffic between my system and the camera host, and show that video traffic starts flowing between the two as soon as the widget is brought up.  So, it's almost like the widget doesn't know when to stop "loading" and start "displaying," perhaps because the HTTP request is never truly "done."
Can anyone speculate if something may have changed in Mountain Lion affecting the ability of web clipping widgets to display streaming video?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi James
I have exactly the same problem with the same "Loading clip" then blank.  I have been trying a lot of stuff to get this working, but haven't had the chance of sniffing the network traffic as you have done.  By reading what you said about the traffic seems to be flowing without the picure being displayed makes me even more puzzled by this.  I never had a streaming video while  I were using Snow Leopard, but I had a still-image, as I also do now in Mountain Lion.  I recently began to research for a way to display the video.cgi MIME image that my camera produces, and I've also concluded that this should be an easy task for the dashboard web clip function; the video does display in safari after all.
I suspect that our cameras uses the same built in webserver solution written by a "Steven Wu".  Cheap webcameras frequently uses his script with MJPEG (stream of JPEG pictures) to avoid the expensive licenses of using other video codecs.
I read this a bit down at this site: http://channel9.msdn.com/coding4fun/articles/Everyone-Loves-Babies-Webcams-and-M otion-Detection
Have you come any closer in your research?
I have started to think that maybe I have to write a dashboard widget on my own to accomplish this.

  • Problems with my second monitor after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Basically I have a Mac Pro 8-core with two video boards (2 x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB) connected to two monitors. After upgrading to the Lion Mountain, 90% of the time when I start my MAC the second monitor doesn't show it image, keeps in full black screen, what puzzle me is, I can see the mouse arrow on it, so its alive, but its in black, than I have to restart the computer over and over again until it finally make the second shows it contains.
Have anyone experienced the same problem?!

    Hello Carlo!
Sorry but I don't understand which part of my question is not clear. I've been to the Apple Store, they asked me to bring my 20kg Mac Pro and both 24" inches Eizo monitors to central London to have it checked. Well, honestly, this is impossible, is an invitation for an accident.
Is just unbeliavable that no one has experienced my problem, looks like I am the only one person with two monitors using the Lion Mountain.

  • How to sync kalendar with goolge calendar automatically after upgrading to mountain lion?

    Hello,
after upgrading to OS X Moutain Lion on my MacBook Pro the calendar is not automatically syncronised with my google caledar even the account is set up properly. It seems the calendar has no contact at all my google account. It still works on my Iphone and Ipad.

When I purchased a new MacBook Pro a couple of months ago or so, I used an external firewire drive that I use for backup purposes to transfer my iTunes library from my PowerBook to my MacBook Pro. I copied the iTunes named folder at Home > Music and with iTunes quit on my MBP, I placed the copy in the same location on my MBP at Home > Music.
I transferred nothing else and my iPhone was not erased of all iTunes content the first time I synced my iPhone with iTunes on my MBP. 3rd party apps are stored in a Mobile Applications named folder located in the iTunes folder.

  • Mail shows wrong creation dates for some older messages after upgrade to OSX 10.9.

Searching for old mail messages I find that the creation date on many old messages is now incorrect after upgrading my system to OSX 10.9.
Searching mail for messages from a person now results in threads that include unconnected messages and messages that are out of date order making the thread difficult to follow.
Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thanks.

    Hi showbuyer!
You may need to try reindexing your mailbox in order to resolve this issue:

Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding the Shift key until you see a progress bar towards the bottom of the screen. You can let go of the Shift key at that point.
OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally. This will clear Font Book's database and the cache files of the user account you logged into in Safe Mode.
Next, close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
Terminal will then ask for your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

After upgrading to mt lion, i lost the option to 'empty cache' on my safari browser. This interferes with some playing pogo games and other issues related to Java. How can I get the option back or how do I empty the cache?

  • Blank box around cursor after upgrade to Mountain Lion

After upgrading to Mountain Lion this morning, I have ended up with a wire-frame empty box that moves with my cursor movements.  I cannot move the curson outside the box. The cursor still works as normal and the programs that I have executed since the upgrade seem to work just fine.  So other than the cursor being captured inside this bounding box, my iMac seems to be working great.  I hope someone has some ideas on how I can get rid of this annoying box!

I appreciate the help!  When I checked the accessbility preferences one was marked "show preview rectange when zoomed out" - or words close to that.  All i know is that when I unchecked the box, the rectange went away!  I appreciate your fast response and the fix!

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, i can't connect to app store or safari

After Upgrading to Mountain Lion, I can't access the app store, itunes store, Safari - anything that requires the internet.  I tried resetting my modem and rebooting.
I also tried deleting items from the keychain that look like they are related to the above.  When I did that and rebooted, It works for a little while, and then gets back to where it won't login to anything on the internet and safari won't load anything.

This means that at some time you had the iWork ’09 trial installed. You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

  • ICal Events on my mac not showing in reminders after upgrading to mountain lion

after upgrading to mountin lion, all calenders on my mac are not showing in the reminders app, only calenders on icloud. The irony is all calenders created on my mac have been reclassified on iCloud. This was done automatically during the last upgrade and I chose to have my calenders on iCloud, so now they are listed twice in the iCal, however, there seems to be a difference between entries. For instance if I turn off the work calender on my mac, different things are removed than if I turn of the work calender on iCloud - i don't understand how or why this happens. In Reminders those very same calenders that are listed as iCloud on the iCal are listed as "on my mac" in the Reminder app and do not show anything. The only calenders on the Reminders app that appear under "iCloud" are the ones that I created on my iPhone. All these calenders are showing the correct entries.
SO far not terribly impressed with Mountian Lion. I am also annoyed that it seems that I can no longer view all my entries from calender tasks at the same time like I used to be able to with Lion. This was very useful. It is now terribly inconvenient to have to check each calender and list in turn (I have nine) to be reminded, unlike in Lion with the list just to the side of iCal.
Any help with the above problem?

In the mailbox panel move your cursor slowly down the right hand side . Should reveal show and hide.

  • I'm having problems with my internet connection after installing OS X Lion. Is this a known problem or just a local problem?

I'm having problems with my internet connection after installing OS X Lion. Is this a known problem or just a local problem?
After +/- 10 to 15min my connection is gone.
    Does anyone have a sollution?

Lots of people are having the same problem, you're not the only one, belieeeeve me.
Just Googling the problem gets you tons of people complaining about the same thing, SOMETHING is up with Lion what wasn't happening with Snow Leopard. i just bought a new Imac and it CAME with Lion, so i started experiencing this internet dropout immediately.
It's been going on for the most of a year it looks like (at least by the dates from the threads i've been reading)
So your best bet is to fiddle with the System Preferences and read what other people have used to make theirs work. i'm doing that myself right now.  I already posted  a similar thread last night trying to figure out why my connection kept on dropping, i got a reply which linked me to a site. i followed the instructions there, so far so good, but i'm just being cautiously optimistic.
i'm gonna call Apple today and see if they've found anything, though seeing as this is a problem right out of the box there may not be an immediate solution. Good luck hunting for a solution :3

  • Why has my Safari and MAIL slowed after upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBookPro ?

Why has my Safari and MAIL slowed after upgrading to Mountain Lion ? I have mid-2009 MBPro and have very fast Internet access router.

I have noticed the same thing on my MAC.  Mail has become very "clunky"- Before Mountain Lion, whenever I clicked on a msg or a function (delete), it would respond immediately.  With Mountain Lion there is an unacceptable hesitation.  What is going on with this latest update?

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion, Mail, Safari and note need about five minutes to start.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion, Mail, Safari and Note need about five minutes to start.
After starting, Mail answers are very very slow. The same for Note. Instead of, sending mails is only a bit slower than before upgrading.
In Safari, I choose Goggle as starting page in Preferences, but at every restart misses that starting page and the search strip says "Seek Google or instert an address".

Well, I found the solution here in another thread.
i just want to mention that the samw thing was happening also for the notes and the reminders apps!! (they quit unexpectedly!!).
So I found the solution here.
