Safari slow iOS 8

I'm running iOS 8 on my iPad 4 and Safari gets really slow when open a new tab and scroll through my bookmarks.
The system itself is really fast, only Safari is slow. It's like scrolling on an Android device.
I've already restored it to see if it would help, but it's the same.

What a HUGE help -- NOT!

  • Safari in iOS 6 must reload pages too often

Since upgrading to iOS 6, safari can't seem to keep any pages in memory without them being purged.  I often leave safari and return to finish reading a page later.
Even with only a single page open in safari, in iOS 6, safari must reload the age any time I return to it.  Not running any more apps on the phone now than I was before the iOS upgrade.  So it seems like iOS 6 is flushing safari's ram sooner than iOS 5.x did.
Not satisfying.  Makes the whole Internet browsing experience much slower.

Filed a bug report.  Got feedback from apple engineering that it should be fixed in 6.1.2.  Seems better now.

OK, it now sort of works. A couple of problems here:
After updating IOS, Safari iCloud was "automatically" switched off
Switching it on had no effect
resetting my iPad automatically switched off safari iCloud again
after switching it back on, it said "turning off safari data"
switched it off and on again, now it said : "turning on safari data" and the sync worked
    On IOS 7 no problems
The bookmarks not being displayed was because after pressing the book icon, it defaulted to showing the history and I had to press "Back" to get to the other options

Looking for a solution for Safari on iOS 7.1.2. Safari crashes every time I open it. I have cleared history, data and cookies all to no avail. Also soft rebooted and that didn't help.

How do you selectively restore apps? Remember what I had installed and redownload each and every app one by one?
You don't have to remember them.  One way to selectively restore would be to open the App Store on your iPad, go to the "Updates" tab on the bottom, click "Purchased" and you will find all the apps there.  From there you can download the one(s) you wish to have back.
Remember, since Safari is no longer failing, the chances are good that one or more of the apps you formerly used is/are corrupt.  Be careful when choosing which app(s) to restore.

  • Safari Hangs when multiple tabs and windows open [was part of safari slow-]

This is to create a new topic with regards to Safari, but with many windows and/or tabs open.
Some have posted information in the previous topic, i.e.: safari slow - has anyone talked to someone at Apple?
This post will be specifically about hangs and ball spinning cursors when many windows are being used simultaneously within Safari.
    Please post your comments below.

    No worries have sorted it now...you need to go to;
System Prefences-->General-->Untick the box which says 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps' (A couple of lines from the bottom)
And then most importantly restart the mac.  It was this last step I never did and thats why I couldn't get it to stop this unwanted behaviour.

  • Cut & paste no longer work in Safari with iOS 5

I can't seem to cut & paste text in Safari under iOS 5.  Has that feature been removed?

Since I attempted to sync this morning, I did not have a chance to troubleshoot more before work.
I will try the following later:
    1) Turn off iDevice, restart PC, re-sync
    2) Turn off iDevice, uninstall iTunes, restart PC, re-sync
    3) Turn off iDevice, uninstall iTunes, restart PC, backup to iOS 5.0.1 & re-sync
    4) Return iPhone to Sprint for another one.

  • Is this a bug in Safari for iOS ??

    http://www.clfsrpm.net/sample/
The control buttons above playlist display just fine in every Android, Linux, and Windows browser I have used - including Safari for Windows.
However they do not display properly in Safari for iOS as tested on my iPod (but they do display correctly in Opera Mini for iPod)
Is this a bug in Safari for iOS ??

Why was this moved to "Using iPhone" ??
It is a question about Safari for iOS - not iPhone/iPod usage.

  • Finding text on web pages in Safari on iOS

A big drawback to using Safari on iOS is the inability to use a Find option to locate text on an open web page. If I'm reading a long article in Wikipedia, or any page with a lot of information on it, and I need to see specific text in the context of the whole article or page, that Find feature is as vital on Safari iOS as it is on browsers on Mac OSX or Windows. In fact, sometimes I retreat to my Mac just to do those page searches. This glaring omission was on iOS3, and, as far as I know, it remains on iOS7. I can't imagine Apple not trying to implement this feature, so there must be a big coding problem in iOS that prevents it's implementation.
Does anyone know of any way to accomplish the Find function in Safari iOS or any other iOS browser?
(NOTE: This is different from the Search field found on most websites.)

A big drawback to using Safari on iOS is the inability to use a Find option to locate text on an open web page.
What drawback? That feature has been there for years.
This glaring omission was on iOS3, and, as far as I know, it remains on iOS7.
Nope, no glaring omission. It's been there in iOS 6.x, and iOS 5.x and iOS 4.2+
I can't imagine Apple not trying to implement this feature, so there must be a big coding problem in iOS that prevents it's implementation.
No coding problem. It was implemented a long, long time ago.
The problem is your inability to find and use included features.

  • How to enlarge text in reader mode in safari on iOS 7?

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anybody could tell me how to enlarge the text when in reader mode on Safari in iOS 7? Before in iOS 6 this was very easy; you just needed to press an icon that had bigger text display while in reader mode itself. But now it seems with iOS 7 you cannot do this. Please somebody tell me that there is a way to do this?
    Thanks in advance!

    SapienSeven wrote:
I am confusd by the question. Safari Reader is still there. Apple moved the button to the left side of the address/search bar and also changed it's appearance.
It's just a series of 4 lines stylized to represent text. Once selected, the colors invert. I do not see any way to increase the text size further though,  ...and peerhaps that is your question.
In iOS 6, while in reader mode you could enlarge or reduce the size of the text just by pressing some icons whilst in reader mode. You can no longer do this in iOS 7 as the feature has been removed. But thanks for your response.

  • No Privacy Selection Capability in Safari under iOS 8.1

I am mystified. On my iPhone 6  I don't have the capability to turn Privacy on or off in Safari under iOS 8.1.  There is absolutely no 'Privacy' button when I select the double boxes while on a web page.  In addition, the Safari setting has the 'Clear History and Website Data' selection grayed out (non-selectable), as well as when looking at 'History' in the Bookmarks area, it has the 'Clear' grayed out.  What am I missing here?  Please advise. Thanks!

Nevermind, answered my own question.  I have a restriction to Limit Adult Content fin Safari.  It appears that when there is that restriction, the Private function is non-operable.  When I allow all websites, the Privacy capability goes into effect.  Interesting, and I am not sure I understand why it works that way.

  • Flash Alternative Content ~ Best Practice ~ Safari on iOS Devices ~ iPad iPhone iPod Touch

    Hi Folks,
Is there a documented best practice for providing alternate content for Flash in Safari on iOS devices?
I am getting white space where my Flash animation would normally appear, and management is displeased. I need to display alternative content in this space. I'm hopeful that Adobe has published a best practice for how to accomplish this.
    tyvm
    Keith

Not sure about Adobe official stance but they have started using swfobject Flash detection to place Flash <objects> on the Web page. The problem I see with the Adobe implementation is that about the only alternate content they recommend is "Click here to download the latest version of Flash player".
That is about the lamest alternate content you could possibly imagine! Just because you recommend that your viewers download the new version.... doesn't mean they will... so they still go without REAL alternate content.
A MUCH BETTER use of swfobject is to actually provide alternate content! For your review::
If you think that Flash is somehow bad for SEO, it's time to dispell that MYTH!
If fact, in some circumstances I'll use Flash INSTEAD of just HTML because then I'll have better SEO than with just HTML alone.
    http://www.worldbarefootcenter.com/
The link to World Barefoot Center in the above post is just one example. View the source code and you see a couple paragraphs of text along with regular HTML links.... but what displays is the Flash version of the image and Flash links.
The client provided the artwork for the page... and that's what they wanted to use a .jpg image. Well yes, that could be done in HTML but it would be virtually invisible to Google. So Instead I converted the image into a Flash .swf and used swfobject to display the Flash. swfobject allows you to create alternate content inside the <div> which also holds the Flash .swf, then when the page is loaded it detects if the browser has the Flash pluggin. If it does, it displays just the Flash content, if not, it displays the alternate content. Since almost everyone has the Flash pluggin, for most people the Flash version of the <div> will display.
The alternate content for that <div> can be any regular HTML text, images, media player, links, etc., anything that you would use if you were not using the Flash. Now the best part is that the alternate content can be "over the top" as far as optimizing for SEO, since it will not be seen by most viewers.
Here's another example of SEO with Flash.. again, the page is just a single image provided by the client:
    http://www.ksowetsuits.com/
View the source code. The alt content is paragraph after paragraph of information about the site, including lists and links. If it was just the HTML, it might be kind of a boring Home page. But for SEO I can go "over the top" in promoting the site, since most viewers will never see that part... but it's all indexed by search engines. The end result is BETTER SEO using Flash than just HTML.
On another Web site, a Flash video is displayed, the alt content is the complete text narration of the video. Now how many people would take the time to read that if they could just watch the video instead?? again, better SEO with Flash than without. In fact in one case we had first page search result from that video narration within 4 hours of posting the page.
On still another site with a Flash video, the alt content is another video, but a .mov version, which will, in effect play Flash video on the iPhone (not possible you say??). Well since the iPhone does not have Flash pluggin, it simply displays the .mov version of the video, while everyione else sees the Flash version.
So anyway, if Flash is a part of your Web development, you should look into using swfobject and alternate content.
    http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/
    Best wishes,
    Eye for Video
    www.cidigitalmedia.com
So it is and has been for a number of years now, very easy to provide alternate content for non Flash devices... and that includes text, images, and video.
    Best wishes,

  • Safari slows and crashes on old imac

I have an 8 year old imac with a problem that I think might be caused by adobe flash player. I spoke to the people at Apple's technical help line and they said it sounded like something with adobe flash player.
The problem seems to have 2 symptoms.
One is that safari keeps crashing. It seems to happen a lot when watching videos or any page with a lot of animation. For example when I was trying to watch a page with a house floorplan I got the "spinning beachball" and finally had to force quit and then got a message saying "the application safari quit while unresponsive." When watching a slideshow on Flickr safari suddenly quit and I got the message "The application safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the flash player plug-in."  I get similar crashes and messages when watching Youtube or looking at the web sites of various newspapers or radio stations. The other night for the first time I was watching some video using safari and got the message "A script in this movie is causing adobe flash player 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"
The other problem is that something is causing safari to slow to a crawl. It doesn't seem to happen with any other applications. It is especially bad when watching videos such as Youtube. I can only watch youtube in the lowest resolution and smallest screen and then it is stop and go motion with long stops in between action. I used the Activity Monitor application to try to see what was going on. I don't understand most of it, but in the part that shows the percent of CPU being used, when I watch youtube, or almost any time safari slows to a crawl, the percent of CPU being used shoots right up to 100% and stays there. It seems something is hogging all the CPU.
Is this a problem with flash player? Some people suggested I uninstall flash player and then download and install the latest version. If I am reading it correctly it appears that because my imac is old I cannot use the latest version of flash player. I looked at the adobe web site and only saw pages for downloading flash player for intel macs. I don't know what version of flash player my computer can use and I don't know where on the web site to find out nor where to download it. I saw a page for "Archived Flash Player versions" but I wasn't sure if this was for Mac or Windows. It also had "debugger" versions. I don't know what that is. Someone also suggested after uninstalling and installing flash player that I repair disc permissions. Is that right?
My imac is a 1GHz PowerPC G4 with 1GB of RAM. The operating system is OS 10.5.8  According to the page on Adobe's website that shows the version of flash player that is on my computer I have MAC 10,1,102,64.  My safari version is 5.0.5.
Despite my imac being 8 years old it has worked almost flawlessly the whole time, other than this one problem. It would be great if I could get it back into good working order.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

that's what i use on mine, works-no problems. keep in mind if you insert the dongle you can unplug the wire to your keyboard. you'll be no worse off than you are now.

Checking the basics:  For web forms, you must tap in the form field to bring up the keyboard.
Can you share a screenshot of the issue?  Press Power and Home buttons at the same time to take the screenshot.  It will appear in your photo album.

  • How to disable tab bar in Safari on iOS 5

I can't find the setting for this. Is it hidden somewhere?

    Pure88 wrote:
The only problem with safari under iOS 5 is when you have 9 tabs opened (which is often the case for me) you don't find anymore which is the right tab when you come back, while under iOS 4 it was far more easier thanks to the picture of the page.
Fair point, but it obviously now makes sense keeping fewer pages open. This is now easy to do as you can just add them to 'Reading List' so you can return to them later and since the Reading List syncs to your other devices they are available anywhere you might be browsing which HAS to be a plus.
I realise that the Reading List is just a list of bookmarks and doesn't actually store the page itself, whereas an open tab does - in theory. On many, many occasions I have switched to an open page (now Tab) and had to wait while the page was retrieved again. I don't understand why it does this since the page had already been downloaded and I hadn't asked it to 'redraw'. Also, it doesn't always occur. So why does it refetch some pages and not others? Anyway, if it is re-fetching the page, that is no different from just opening a bookmark and hence in that case storing something in the Reading List would be no different to keeping the page apparently open in another screen.
On the whole I do prefer the new Safari and from the reviews I've read, it seems that most others do also. In any case, there's no point wishing for the old behaviour as it's surely gone for good. Better to embrace the new way of working and learn to love that, so when they change to something else in iOS 6, you'll have something to complain about.

  • Safari in iOS 5.0.1 crashes and messes up forms

My iPad 1 sometimes crashed with Safari on iOS 4.x, but now with iOS 5 it's really bad.
With iOS 5.0.1 it now also messes up forms: suddenly the cursor is several millimeters above the actual field that I need to fill and buttons no longer work so the only option is to refresh the page - losing all my input. This is happening on my electronic banking forms, so it's a real pain (this is on ING Netherlands).
Similar annoyance is on the input fields on the mobile site for Google. As soon as I select the input box the keyboard pops up and then down. Tap again, keyboard pops up and immediately down. It renders Google unusable, and it happens on my iPhone as well.
    Anyone else experiencing same things?

Me too I do, too. Safari does not work well. It closes and does not let me open it again. And exactly the same applications, especially with Skype and email.
All this happens since I upgraded to IOS 5.
    Apple, please, try to solve.
