Safari Slow++ to on secure site

I inserted changes to the the information below in Terminal a month ago on the (very sound) advice of a fellow discussioner (sorry can't find the post know). This was because since upgrading to Tiger my Safari was crashing very often, and this fix prevented it from checking an RSS feed (I think). It stopped it crashing Anyway, but since then when checking my NHS secure e-mail it takes five minutes plus to down load a page, instead of the few seconds. If anyone has a clue about what I'm talking about...... Help

  • Safari will not open secure sites

Safari will not open any secure sites with a secure login. Anyone have an idea why?

Same issue here and yes, I can get to the secure sites using Firefox, Camino & Opera and no, when logged into the new user account I still can't access secure sites with Safari.
Also, I have been unable to purchase anything off of iTunes since this issue started. Does iTunes use Safariin some way? Any idea why the two things seem to be linked?
After successfully browsing Music Store & selecting the desired purchase, I hit the "Buy" button and get an error message saying that iTunes could not connect to the Music Store. "An unknown error ocurred (0x80010003)." It suggests I make sure my network connection is active & try again, but I'm clearly online.

  • Safari Question marks on secure sites

I have Safari 4 installed on my Windows laptop. I am having a problem viewing secure sites. All that appears is the text and then blue question marks where the images/tables should be. This is not a problem when using Firefox, Chrome, or IE.
This is also not a problem on my other windows computers nor on my Mac.
I've tried resetting Safari, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Safari, nothing is working.
Any idea how to fix this?
I was able to fix it on a home computer by uninstalling and trashing Safari, then creating a new user and reinstalling. Unfortunately I can't do this on my work computer.

I would normally think it was that too but 3 accounts on the computer have the problem.
Okay ... that suggests a program files issue rather than preference files.
When you uninstalled Safari, did you also uninstall Apple Application Support?
If not, try the technique from the following post:

  • Safari slow to load web sites

Safari is very slow to load web sites. They can be frequently used sites or new ones. They just take a long time to load. I'm not sure how to trouble shoot this. I'm on Yosemite 10.10.3
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

There are many possible causes for problems with web browsing. Below are some simple steps that may help either to solve the problem or isolate the cause.
Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Restart your router and also your broadband device, if they're separate.
    2. If you connect to the the router with Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi and then back on.
    3. If you connect with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi.
    4. If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed.
    5. Select the Extensions tab in the Preferences window. Turn all extensions OFF and test. If there's an improvement, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    6. If you're running OS X 10.10 or later, select the Search tab. Uncheck the box marked
              Enable Quick Website Search
    if it's checked.
    7. If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Quit and relaunch the browser.
    8. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest.
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    9. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    10. If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test.
    11. If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test.
    12. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the boxes marked Safari and Photos, if they're checked.
    13. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and if so, are they affected?
    14. If you can, test Safari on another network.
    15. Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.

  • High Latency in WoW PArticularly and SLOW connections to secure sites.....

...so what's really weird about this is that if I use my linksys wireless n mode/router i get very low latency in WoW and secure sites like online banking sites are really quick.
My TC is plugged into a straight up wired only DSL Modem/router set to PPP IP bridge so that my TC has a real IP address and is straight on the internet. then my computers all connect to the tC which is running NAT and DHCP.

  • Safari 3 not accessing secure sites

I am still using Safari 3 (3.2.3) and in the past few days I haven't been able to access secure web sites that I had been able to previously (such as an on-line mail server, bank account, etc.). When I attempt to I get a message like this: "Safari can’t open the page “https://mail.xxxxx.com” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “mail.xxxxx.com”.
It won't even let me log in to Twitter. Any ideas?

    Good clue!
Open System Preferences>Network>Configure>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTPS, especially.

  • Safari stops connecting to secure sites

My son is using Panther 10.3.9 and in Philadelphia using ComCast cable internet services. Everything was ok about a week ago... and he has done no security updates since. He is now unable to connect to secure websites for banking, etc. using Safari 1.3.2. He was recently able to do this with no problem.
Also, when he try tries to use Mail to get his email, he gets a message that says something like "unable to establish secure connection... this may not be the server you are intending to contact." There was no problem up to a week ago.
He's checked his Keychain passwords, etc. and used AppleJack to clear caches, but nothing's worked.
Suggestions would be appreciated. - Thanks
    1.25 GHz iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

After much searching and reading, I have found an approach that solved this problem and another problem I was having connecting to the iTunes store.
It appears to be a problem for people running Mac OS 10.3.9.
    The solution is to:
    1. Open Finder
    2. Choose your Hard Drive
    3. Find the folder called Keychains in the Library folder of your hard drive
    4. Drag this Keychains folder to your Trash
    5. Restart computer.
I found this solution in a post by Swooz in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=787244&#787244
Prior to trying this I did all the Keychain and Disk repair things that had been suggested, to no avail.
I hope this works for you.

  • Safari won't load Secure Sites?

    Hi.
I am running 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2 on both a G4 17" POwerbook and an older 400Mhz G4 Tower. Neither can access secure websites?
I can no longer log in to my Dot MAc for instance? I no longer see the Padlock in the top right corner?
Very frustrating, I can't access many secure areas I need? Any suggestions appreciated. I have cleared cache etc..
    Bill

this was my previous response to the same question:
"this sounds like a keychain problem. moving /library/keychains/system.keychain to your desktop and restarting is the default solution, i believe (try searching for secure/https/login in previous posts).
if that doesn't work, you can always just move the file back."

  • Safari will not log in to banking or other secure sites

Safari quit logging into secure sites this morning.
I enter my  user name and password, even saved ones, hit enter it goes back to the log in screen. Even new registrations - it is across all password protected sites  - I had to log into this support community with Firefox.
Any one elso having this issue today?

I figured out my problem - I set the privacy settings to block all cookies. I reset it to block only third pary cookies and it is fine now.

  • Safari house trouble with "secure connections"

    Wow. What a pain...
Item 1. Safari has trouble accessing secure sites, even APPLE.COM as per below when I tried to log in to this forum!! Only one bank site works and virtually everything else (forums, banks, anything requiring a log-in) returns a dumb-arse response as below.
"Safari can’t open the page “https://support.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/ACAuthWeb.woa/wa/login?appIdKey=2dd bca23a85d20e5bf7478812379ae23&path=/login.jspa%3FsuccessURL%3D/category.jspa%3Fc ategoryID%3D169” because Safari can’t establish a secure connection to the server"
Item 2. I threw Safari in the trash and downloaded another copy to re-install and got: "Safari can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer" This despite the fact I'm running 10.6.1
Since Mail has just shat itself recently and couldn't recognize an mail server if one bit it in the arse, I'm thinking 10.6.1 is the culprit and wasn't worth the disk it shipped on.
I normally LOVE my Mac but it has cost me a week of productivity this week and this is about as polite as I can manage.
Ideas? Thank you much for your tips/tricks in advance.
    MMM

Oh, and I went to update to 10.6.1 and my computer rejected the download saying its certificate was suspect
So, Mail can't locate servers, Safari won't do secure sites, and my computer rejects Apple's own updates. I have one paranoid laptop.

  • Safari - secure sites - sending attachments

Ok, I'cw got some major problems and am now ready to throw my mac out the window!!
I recently got boradband and decided to get a wireless router so my partner's wireless powerbook could also access the net. My G4 tower is plugged directly into the router. I've set up router online using settings given to me by broadband company - so far so good. Powerbook can access net fine, so can I.
My first problem is that we both cannot acess secure sites on safari which, afetr searching through the fourms have discovered this is a very common problem and an unresolved one at that. My problem varies in that I can access secure sites using internet explorer, but cannot send anything. I couldnt even sign into my apple account in safari, but could sign in using internet explorer and spent ages typing this post only to discover it wouldnt submit (I am now at work using PC to post this!!). The same thing happens in hotmail.
Second problem; my partner is having problems sending any sort of attachments on his entourage email since i upgraded to broadband. I have tried sending emails on his powerbook actually in the service provider website and it still doesn't work - just tries sending for about 2 minutes, then says it was unable to. I also tried using his regular apple email and the same thing happened. I have not got email set up on mine as I do not use it but I reckon the same problem would occur.
would this have anything to do with the router? he could send attchments fine using dial up beofer (very slow but sent in the end).
    details are as follows;
    broadband provider: talktalk
my computer: G4 tower, recently upgraded to 10.4
    partner's computer: powerbook G4 512MB 1.25 ghz 10.2
router: belkin wireless router with modem 54mbps
    service provider: active 24
all my settings are correct for router
talk talk technical line have been c**p - they know pc's but not macs and proceeded to keep me on the line for half an hour whilst they searched through google??!! I can do that!! They mentioned something about SSL 1, 2 & 3 need to be enabled to access secure sites but they don't know where this could be on a mac (or even if its relevant to amcs!!)
I am clueless about the attachments problem too
    Help!!

    Hi,
Have you tried any of the suggestions here for the secure connection issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=982087
It could be related to your attachment sending issue.

  • Reset Safari -- Now I Can No Longer Access Secure Sites Or iTunes Store.

Hi, A few days ago I reset Safari (I'm still not sure why... boredom??). Well, now I'm paying for it. Now I can't access secure sites (such as gmail, bank accounts, etc.). in Safari. When trying to access a secure site I get an error window that reads something along the lines of: "Safari can’t open the page because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server." Even more annoying, I can't access my account on iTunes or access the iTunes store. When trying to do so an error window pops up that reads: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The requested keychain was invalid. Open keychain access and run Keychain first aid, then try again."... Did all that. No help. Incidentally, all my keychains are now gone).
I tried accessing the secure sites through Firefox, which still works fine. But the iTunes problem persists no matter what.
Has anyone else been encountered these same problems or know what I need to do to fix them? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm stuck!
    Thanks in advance!

Still having this problem - is there no one out there who can help me? Surely someone must have had this happen before, no? You're all making me feel really stupid!!

  • Safari no longer able to log into secured sites??

" because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to
    the server".
This is the error message I've been getting when either logging in
    or visiting secured sites.
I recently defragmented my powerbook, and don't know if this
would have caused a security issue or not.
I'm able to view other sites with no problem. just the secured sites
    I'm blocked from visiting.
Checked my preferences..cleared cache.. don't know what happened.
I was able to visit secured sites beforehand.
    any thoughts?? ~A~

tried it and spent the last 30 min. trying to log in
    as adminstrator..
still no luck with getting through on secured sites..
any other thoughts? did the disk utility,etc..
    He is something to try:
Go into the Control Panel open Accounts, create a new
user. Log into the new user account, open Safari and
try connecting to a well know site that uses SSL...
If it works, it means something is wrong with your
Safari settings in your account, bad preferences,
    etc...
If it doesn't work, you have to delete system-wide
Safari preferences, and perhaps start with Disk
    Utilities, Verify Permissions, etc...
    Hagrid...

  • Safari user name and password for secure sites

I just sent the following to "Mac OS X Feedback"
Some secure sites like brokers, e.g., Ameritrade, do no allow autofill in Safari for the user name and password. In fact Safari does not even ask if you want to remember the user name and password just entered for such sites.
I would like to suggest that something be done for users in such cases:
    1) A dialog box comes up warning that this website does not allow autofill.
    2) A suggestion is made as to what network setting needs to be changed to allow autofill to work
    3) A fix in Safari to take care of this problem
    4) Add something to Safari help
Does anyone have a work around for this problem?
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Think about what would happen if someone gained access to your Mac, say while you were briefly away from your desk or whatever. They launch Safari, go to the login web page of (for instance) your bank & discover that autofill has helpfully filled in your user name & password so all they have to do to get access to your accounts is click the login button.
From there, they can transfer all your assets to some other account (theirs!) or invest in FlyByNight.com or whatever -- they can do anything your password lets you do with any password-protected account ... anything!
Take this a step further. Say you have enabled auto-login to your primary account at startup, or have used an easy-to-guess account password for it. Someone steals your computer ... & with it potential access to all your online accounts with autofill entries.
Not a pretty picture, is it?
