Safari slow to open up web page

When I open safari, it takes a while (20 to 30 secs) to load it's first website (the home page). Once it opens, I have no problem navigating the web. My internet speed is around 6 mps, so that's not the problem. Help!!

You're welcome.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and *slow Safari down*. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Relaunch Safari. If it's not a third party plugin issue, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari.
If it's ok... the move that .plist file to the Trash.

  • Haveing problems with Safari. It gives me an error message. Safari can't open the web page, because it can't establish a secure connection to the server. It only seams to have a problem on https sites. Any help would be apreciated.

Safari keeps giving  and error message. " Safari can't open the web page( insert web page here) , because it can't establish a secure connetion to the server.
It only seams to have a problem with https sites.
    Any help would be appreciated

The "s" in "https" indicates the site is a secure server--usually a site that will require a password.  Connections to secure servers can be blocked by parental controls.  Are you using any parental controls, either through OSX's settings (in System Preferences) or third party parental control software (such as Netnanny)?  If so, check the settings to make sure they will allow the connection.

  • Slow in opening up web pages?

    Hi,
Not sure why, my N900 seems to be pretty slow in opening up web pages.  The home screen says that I am on 3.5G.  At times the page wouldn't even get loaded (white screen or connection error).
To test if it is due to bad coverage, I pull out the SIM card and put it back to my N97.  And the web pages seem to load a lot faster (and smoother).  This is strange.  Is there some settings I need to fiddle with?  I have tried changing the memory cache size from 5MB up but the improvement does not seem to be consistant.  Now, I set the cache to auto.
Any help would be great.  Thanks.

there is an app which gives you control over the 2/3G networks but i live in a 2G area so i didn't download it and i'm not sure how much control it offers. i can't remember what it was called or where it was but i think it was on www.maemo.org but if i find it again i'll post you a link but in the mean time all i can suggest is clearing the private data which should help just make sure that the saved passwords is de selected
if you've always had this problem and this may sound stupid but i can be in a 3G area in my local town with a full signal and suffer the same problem yet if i go to the northern end of the town it works fine and my network provider vodafone say its interference from the buildings even tho the highest building only has 4 floors so you could just be in one of these spots

  • Safari won't open certain web pages

    Hi,
I can't get Safari to open certain web pages. This has only been the case for the last week or so, I could happily view them before.
    2 examples are : www.facebook.com and www.quaysws.co.uk
can anybody please help, it just seems a bit weird...

I just got this link, http://www.quaysws.co.uk/flash/page1.php,
to open in both Safari and Firefox. Mind you at the same time, I cannot get Apple.com to open in Safari I'm running Leopard with Safari 3.0.4. Whoa Safari just decided that Apple.com does exist and opened it without me first having to restart the computer. Safari definitely has some bugs but you may want to make sure that you don't have any 3rd party add-ons set up and you may have to reinstall.

  • Safari update to 5.1.5, on snow leopard, now safari won't open any web page.

Just installed Safari update to 5.1.5 and now Safari won't load any web page. Running snow leopard on an iMac.  How do I fix, or revert to previous version of Safari that did work, keeping in mind, can't access internet on that computer since Safari won't load a web page (Firefox, Chrome, Opera have never worked on that computer, although Firefox worked fine until I upgraded OS to snow leopard).

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • I have an iPad 2.  Safari will not open any web pages.

I have an iPad 2 which I have had for almost a year.  I have never had trouble with my WiFi before and now Safari is not working.  It will not open any web pages.  All of my apps (like Facebook and IMDB) that require an internet connection are working.  Safari on my iPhone is working with my WiFi.  I have tried resetting my WiFi and my iPad and that has not helped.  I took it to an Apple store and they told me nothing was wrong with it because Safari was working in their store.  When I brought it home it worked for a day and is now not working again.  Any ideas?

From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle
Press the red to delete the Safari app from this list.
Press the home twice button when done.
    Restart Safari.

  • Safari is not opening certain web pages

Why isn't Safari opening certain web pages?

If you are using any non-Apple "anti-virus" software, uninstall it according to its instructions and do not reinstall it.
There are a variety of other potential reasons for that message. First try restarting your Mac in "Safe Mode" (see below). Attempt to load the same webpage again. If that works it will reduce the number of potential causes.
Determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Safari Slow to Load Certain Web Pages

Has anyone found a fix for the web pages that get "stuck"

This has been an ongoing problem in Safari v2.0x with OS X v10.4. However, I would describe this as "Safari stalls when loading Web pages." It seems like it may happen on certain pages, but it has been my experience that this can happen on any Web page at any give time: In fact, it just happened when I tried to load the Safari Discussions forum page!
    - Safari attempts to load a Web page
    - Progress bar in address field stalls at mid-point or later
    - Web page never finishes loading but sometimes, if you're patient, it takes a minute or more to load, but eventually finishes
    - More often, cancelling the page load (Command/Period) and then immediately hitting Command/R (or selecting Reload Page from the View menu) usually loads the page immediately!
Once, I thought it might be favicons, but I had just reset that folder to Read Only. Also, I just used Font Book to Resolve Duplicate Fonts before seeing it happen again. This is pretty frustrating, and never seems to get better.

  • HT4628 My Mac mini has decided to continuously drop off my wifi network and is incredibly slow to open a web page. Wifi is working perfectly with other devices.

Hi my Mac mini will not stay on the network today and is slower than a pc to lad a web page.
I've followed various suggestions off the web and still have the same problem. 1 second the network is available and working slow and the next it says in network diagnostics that ISP has failed. The router is fine as I'm using an iPad and iPhone and all is working perfectly at +5 Mbps however when I try to open yahoo in safari it take about 5 minutes to open the page and then when I try to create a new mail I get the same Tim delay and then can't enter a send to address!
I've never managed to sort out email either but it not for a lack of trying about 30 different suggestions.
I'm fairly new to mac and am getting very very frustrated with not being able to solve these problems.
Can anyone please steer me towards a step by step or screen by screen resolution please please please help?

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them; in that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Restart your router and your broadband device, if they're separate. Any change?
If possible, connect to your router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
Are any other devices on the network, and if so, are they the same?
If you can connect to more than one network, are they all the same?
Are all network applications affected, or only some? If only some, which ones?
Is networking always the same, or is the problem intermittent?
Disconnect all other devices from the network. Any change?
Boot in safe mode and test. Any difference?
If possible, turn off Bluetooth and disconnect any USB 3 devices. Any difference?

  • Safari won't open certain web pages and download/stream speed slow

I have recently been experiencing problems with viewing certain websites, content on websites, streaming video, and downloading files. Sometimes the website will load but all the images will be blue question marks. I cannot get anything to load on youtube. Streaming video on Netflix is really slow as well. My bandwidth allowance on my network is 3 mbps (I'm the only user) and I have been getting between 40-300 kbps when downloading things. I have restarted Safari, my computer, and still no change. Any idea on what's going on? Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You're not alone. Others, especially with early MacBooks, have reported slower Safari performance after updating to OS X 10.6.8. and Safari 5.1
Using any popular search engine with the terms "mac os x 10.6.8 slow internet" will reveal dozens of similar complaints.
I did too with my mid-2007 MacBook, similar to yours, except I have 4GB RAM (3 GB usable). After a few days of 'spinning beachball' I restored my system to OS X 10.6.7 and internet performance returned to what I remembered.

  • Safari slow and Not Loading Web Pages after changing Modems?

Hello...I recently changed from an AT&T DSL modem to a Knology Cable Modem to improve speed and overall network capablity.  However, ever since I have changed I have had problems with Safary lagging or not loading the websites.  It doesn't do it all the time, but periodically.  Sometimes it is worse than others.
Basic issue: When using Safari, it stalls when loading a website.  Sometimes it will load, other times it will say that Safari cannot load the website.  If you wait a while and retry loading it, it may then load it.
Has anyone else seen something similar to this or know what I can do to fix the problem?  It is rather frustrating.
    Thank you,
    Jim

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)

  • Safari can't open certain web pages?

There are certain webpages, such as my credit report AMEX site that will open up in Windows and not on a MAC (using Safari, or Firefox). When I click on a button nothing happens or I get a blank page.

Sometimes, but rarely, developers use ActiveX, which only works with Internet Explorer. The Real Estate Site referenced by the other poster is one example. However, some developers only test a site using certain browsers, and then lock out all other browsers even if they would otherwise work. One way to test to see if developers are just locking out certain browsers as opposed to using Active X, is to tell Safari to identify itself to websites as Explorer. To do that go to the Debug Menu, select user agent, and then select MSIE 6.
Another thing to check is to see if you have the block pop ups feature enabled in Safari. Some sites do not work properly with that feature enabled. I would test the Site for you, but I do not have an account there.

  • Safari will not open any web pages

Was working fine; no system changes. Wi-fi, network, working fine on all other devices.

This is for OS7 ( not Mountain Lion)
The last version of OS7 was obsoleted in July 1997. Can you confirm that you mean OS 10.7?
Also, are you running any anti-virus software? Any "I'll clean up your Mac" software? Both cause big problems for Safari.

  • Safari Wont Open Any Web Page

I just updated my Safari to 3.1.2 and now it wont open any web page. I know my system is fine as I also have Firefox and it works great. I have tried reseting Safari, emptying the cache deleting the plist, but nothing works. I have even tried deleting Safari and downloading the latest version from the apple website and re-installing it. No dice either. Safari seems to be working fine but it wont opent any website. Everything just time's out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Try this:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464
Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.220
    208.67.220.222
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
