Safari Slowdown...what's going on?

In the last week or so, Safari has slowed down on my PowerBook considerably. It's not my signal...that's at full strength and I'm 8 feet away from my router. I've tried clearing the cache and resetting safari as well. My Windows desktop in the next room has no problems what-so-ever.
Any ideas why this is happening or what I can do about it?

I had the same problem, found out I was using an older version of Safari Enhancer. Downloaded the new version of Safari Enhancer and safari started running fast again. ( i use Safari Enhancer to turn off the cache as with a fast internet connection it takes more time to look at the cache and see if the web page has changed, with it off it just loads the page.
hope this helps!

Safari problem:  when I switch back into safari from another application, the menu bar comes up but no tabs or windows.  What's going on?  Just started yesterday.  I have found a workaround: when I Command Tab back to safari, I hit command T to open a new tab and Command W to close it, and my other tabs are visible.
I have tried shutting down, closing tabs, with no success.  What's going on and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,

PS:  I'm not sure of the actual OS level, but I have not allowed it to upgrade to Maverick yet; concerned about it because of a few things I've read...

A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
    The version is noted there.
v10.6 Snow Leopard v10.7 Lion  v10.8 Mountain Lion
It's your choice whether or not to upgrade to Mavericks. If you decide to do this, make sure your Mac meets the requirements noted here.

d Pacifist to reinstall both the Safari
    application and the WebKit framework
was that before the 10.4.6 combo was applied?
Nope, I tried the Pacifist route after applying the combo update.
It does sound as if webkit is busted at the moment.
What version of osx is on your install disks?
Not sure, I'll have to check them.
I'd like to avoid a archive & install, but I'm beginning to think it's my only remaining option.

Please help! I updated safari and yes it is an older desktop, but now all of the sudden tabs I have open will freeze on me. I can see what is going on, but am unable to type anywhere on the page! I have to shut down safari and then open up a whole new window to even attempt to get it to stop! It is driving me insane not to mention I need my desktop to work properly. I beg for someone to help me with this.

I downloaded the new iOS 7 and i can't open safari in my iPad mini, what's going on?

You can't open it meaning it does not launch when you tap on the app icon? If that's what's happening try this and then see if Safari will launch.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Now close Safari. To close Safari, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to Safari and then swipe "up" on the Safari thumbnail app to close it.
Now reboot the iPad. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If Safari does launch and this isn't what you are experiencing - you need to explain in more detail what is going on.

  • What is going on - Safari quits constantly when login

    Hello everyone,
I'm writing this post from a Windows PC at Uni because I'm unable to login with Safari on this forum (and almost anywhere else. It is constantly quitting. I have no Idea what is going on. Generally speaking, I'm quite disappointed by Safari 2 so far. But despite some minor things, it is currently unuseable! Whenever I do online tests, bookings or any other more important stuff on the web, it quits! I had a clean install of Tiger a couple of weeks ago and therefore don't have any plug-ins installed except Schubert-It's pdf plugin. In the crash reporter it says that there was an error in Thread 2 with the handshake something. Does anybody have an idea? My friends are already making fun of me - "I thought Macs don't crash - Haha"
    Cheers

    Hi NZ,
Yeah, it's unfortunate but there appears to be a few web sites and/or web ads which can crash Safari on some Macs some of the time (Macintouch Reader Reports, Safari (part 8)). You can be sure that the Safari team is working quickly to crush those bugs, as they can reproduce them.
A quick and dirty step to try on any application unexpectedly quitting, including Safari, is to remove its preference file and then re-launch it. In the case of Safari that would be this file:
    /Users/your_userid/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
You're also wise to have checked for any plug-ins (eg. Schubert-IT, etc), and to remove them temporarily from:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Finally, it's easy to forget if you've added any Safari enhancers. I'm not saying anything against them, but they do have to be constantly updated everytime Apple updates Safari. Here's a list of them:
    http://pimpmysafari.com/
    best of luck,

PS. With so many browser choices available to OS X users, it's probably not a bad idea to have at least 2, so you can retry problematic sites with a 2nd browser, viz: Firefox, Camino, iCab, Mozilla, Netscape, OmniWeb, Opera, and Shiira. And I suppose I must add for completeness, the no-longer being developed, Internet Explorer for OS X as it still might be handy for the odd <grin> site.

Ever since I downloaded OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac, the Safari won't open.  It loads half way and then stops.  Same thing happens when we try to open a web page.  If I restart the computer, it will then work.  What is going on?  What can I do?  Help!

It will but it's only a temporary fix, ideally you should get a large external drive and move your photo library to it, do this (info)
Apple Menu>About This Mac>More Info>Storage, you will get a graphic that looks like the one below, post it here.

  • What is going on with safari

For the past couple of weeks safari has been really sketchy on what sites it can open and major sites (apple/wiki/google) won't even come up and I get the display screen that says I am not even connected to the internet. What is going on?

I am having similar issues --- but only on 1 of the 3 Win XP Pro workstations I use. The two at work (Lenovo Desktop and Lenovo T61 Laptop) have no issues with Safari -- yet. My HP workstation in my home office was fine with Safari until the past weekend; now I always get the Safari Failed To Open Page message, no matter what I do. I've cleared cache, deleted cookies, verified no firewall issues, and even uninstalled/reinstalled Safari, but to no avail. Also, the Lenovo T61 works fine in my home network, so this is not a service provider issue. And IE 7 works as well in my home environment. This is definitely a Safari 4 issue, but it must be like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. Perhaps that's why Apple hasn't, so far as I can tell, responded...
Well, so much for the hype on Safari 4... the vaporware looks good but will ultimately only frustrate those looking for a better browser. IE 7 is still slow.... but it works.

What's going on with safari on ipad and iphone not connecting?

I am using safari on my iPad to respond here. What problems are you having? Do you have a good wifi connection? Try a reset, hold the power button and home button until you see the apple then let go.

safari is having problem loading messages in gmail. When using other browsers, there is no problem loading and viewing the messages. What is going on? please help!

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.

  • Both Chrome and Safari interrupt online streaming to request/demand an update for a PC program that doesn't work on Macs. What is going on?

Both Chrome and Safari interrupt online streaming to request/demand an update for a PC program that doesn't work on Macs. What is going on?

The update alerts are fake, and are intended to dupe you into installing malware or disclosing private information so that your identity can be stolen.
You might get the alerts when visiting a website that has been hacked. Don't visit the site again. If applicable, notify the site administrator of the problem, but don't send email to an unknown party.
If you get the alerts when visiting more than one well-known website, such as Google, YouTube, or Facebook, then they're almost certainly the result of an attack on your router that has caused you to get false results from looking up the addresses of Internet servers. Requests sent to those sites are redirected to a server controlled by the attacker. It's possible, but less likely, that the DNS server used by your ISP has been attacked, but you should assume that the router is at fault until proven otherwise.
The router's documentation should tell you how to reset it to the factory default state. Usually there's a pinhole switch somewhere in the back. It may be labeled "RESET." Insert the end of a straightened paper clip or a similar tool and press the button inside for perhaps 15 seconds, or as long as the instructions specify.
After resetting the router, quit the web browser and relaunch it while holding down the shift key. From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Do the equivalent if you use another browser. Open the Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.
Then go through the router's initial setup procedure. I can't be specific, because it's different for every model. The key points are these:
    1. Don't allow the router to be administered from the WAN (Internet) port, if it has that option. Most do.
    2. Set a strong password to protect the router's settings: at least ten random upper- and lower-case letters and digits. Don't use the default password or any other that could be guessed. Save the password in your keychain. Any password that you can remember is weak.
    3. If the router is wireless, or if you have a wireless access point on the network, use "WPA 2 Personal" security and set a different strong password to protect the network. If the router or access point doesn't support WPA 2, it's obsolete and must be replaced.
During the time the router was compromised, you were redirected to bogus websites. If you ever connected to a secure site and got a warning from your browser that the identity of the server could not be verified, and you dismissed that warning in order to log in, assume that your credentials for the site have been stolen and that the attacker has control of the account. This warning also applies to all websites on which you saw the fake update alerts.
Check the router manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
If you downloaded and installed what you thought was a software update, ask for instructions.

  • HT5501 Somebody can tell me what is going on with the last update 10.8.2??I updated and since two days ago my computer is blocking with safari and is getting pretty much slower than before??

Can somebody tell me what is going on with the last update of Mountain Lion 10.8.2?? Since then my computer is pretty much slower and blocken on Safari.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.
