Safari snag
A problem has arisen in Safari (v2.0.3) in Tiger(10.4.6) whereby when I open Safari there appears a screen of "Resources" containing 172 files, mainly .tif, and occupying 18.7 MB.
Behind this screen appears the normal opening screen of Safari, so to use Safari you have to delete this Resources screen and Safari operates normally.
This started to occur two days ago and I cannot think of any reason. I have certainly not been looking at (and have never seen before) this list of files. They all seem to be connected with the operation of Safari. The first 3 in the list are " acknowledgements.rtf / Activity-Stop.tif / AddLink.tif ".
It would help me to understand this problem if I knew where these files normally live.
Can anyone throw any light on this, please? It is annoying to have it keep happening with no reason.
You should consider updating your OS and Safari to the most current versions.
For whatever reason when you launch Safari the "package" Resources folder is opening. Every OS X application is really a "package" (folder) and you can view the contents of any by right clicking on the app icon.

Hey all! Does anyone here know if there's a way to do the following in Keynote for iOS?
Add hyperlinked text
View notes long with slides
Snag and display images from Safari to put into Keynote
And if so, how?HI,
I have created a project similar to yours and I can't see all the issues mentioned.
But, with the links which you sent, issues are present.
So, can you send me the CPTX project so that I can verify.
Regards,
Salini -
In Lion, the default of pressing a link on a web page, is to open the page in a new tab. In itself, I do like this because this is what I did for 19 out of any 20 links, which I command+clicked in previous Safari versions.
However, there is a snag to this behaviour. Most (all?) secure site do not like links to be opened in a new tab. For example, when I am doing Web banking, The the linked page doesn’t open in new tab. Rather I get a page telling me my login session is expired. Probably a security measure instituted by my bank.
I since found out, that a command-click opens lings in the same window. Theoretically that solves the problem, if I would think about this all the time. I don't. Old habits die slowly.
Is there a terminal command to make links open in same window the default behaviour, as it was in Safari 5.0.Hi Eric,
I got it figured out today, basically you have to load the Parallel Flash Loader first into FPGA ram. It is a special .sof file (pfl_epXXXX.sof) based on your FPGA. Code is actually pretty straight forward, using the Sys Exec VI. Use the windows based programmer to generate the .cdf file that identifies your FPGA, attached Flash and .pof file .
Syntax was odd going into Sys Exec. Note the extra "C" in in front of the "quartus_prm.exe" I have no idea why that was needed, but I was getting an error until I just happened to put it in there (Blind Luck :-))
I used a 2 element array going into a four loop
cmd /cquartus_pgm.exe -c USB-BLASTER -m JTAG -o P;pfl_epXXXX.sof
cmd /cquartus_pgm.exe -c USB-BLASTER -m JTAG S_FPGA.cdf
Defining the working director C:\altera\12.1sp1\qprogrammer\bin
And added match string with "Successfully performed operation" on the output in the loop to make sure everything loaded correctly then adding the array to give me a overall P/F
To anyone doing this same thing Altera's documentation is poor to say the least. It took most of a week to figure this out Not allowed to upload code, so anyone wanting details just post here and I will try to help. This was painful, with lots of lessons learned.
Thanks for the interest though
Best regards John -
Mac installation says Safari is open, but it is not.
MPBr
OSX 10.8.3
Adobe Flash Player Version 11.7.700.169
Tried to install newest version of flash player when prompted.
Flash installer says that Safari is open and it can not continue, so I check my tasks and Safari is not open. I open safari and then close it with CMD+Q to ensure all instances are closed. This does not work.
Restart my computer to ensure that safari isn't open. Attempt installation again with fresh restart. Flash installer says that Safari is open and it can not continue.
Can not install newest version of Flash, nor can I locate information pertaining to this issue.
Any help is appreciated (assuming that it's not a problem with the latest installer which will be remedied shortly).
Thanksdanckwerts wrote:
Mike M, your suggestion for rebooting ingores the fact that, depending how your system is set up, your computer may restart Safari on reboot, either because it was open before or because it is set as a Login item. In any case, rebooting shouldn't be necessary. Adobe used to include a utility in the installer which allowed you to force Safari to close and killed associate processes at the same time. It would save a lot of trouble if they reintroduced that. Also, there are other programs, such as FaceTab, which will cause the Flash installer to say that Safari is running (perhaps they are using WebKit).
The option to "reopen windows on restart" (meanign to restore applications) and the login items are BOTH user set. The reopening when the reboot is executed, by checkign a box specificaly to do that, and the other in the system preferences, requiring entry of the admin password before apps can be added. Anyone who has knows how to do either, would certainly know that a reboot withthe box checked would reopen Safari, and would know that they have to terminate the process manually. Most people DON'T have Safari set as a login item, however. There are some "widgets" that will try to connect through Safari, and Facetab can a f;ase positive too, but onyl if it's a login item.
It would be nice to have the force quit in the installer, but as one of the top posters in the Apple forums told me, OS X has changed since 10.6, to be more like iOS. One of the significant changes with Lion and it was refined in Mt. Lion and Mavericks, is the "Gatekeeper" which keeps apps from running if the developer can't be identified. If Apple lags on updating Gatekeeper definitions, a brand new update launching the force quit would hit a snag at that point and people would be right back here asking what to do. Not having it facilitates the install IMHO.
Currently I'm running 10.6.8, 10.7.5, 10.8.5 and 10.9 and I haven't run into the "You must close Safari" warning when it was closed. I don't use Facetab, and I only have widgets installed on my Mavericks machine. I've trashed them all on the others. -
Since upgrading to Safari version 7.0.6 (9537.78.2), html5 videos will no longer play. (Mavericks on Macbook Pro) I get the error message "Please upgrade your browser to view HTML5 content". The only extension I have is ClickToFlash. When I disable it, I get the error message immediately without having to click on the "Flash" button to give it permission to run.
same thing for me... yesterday i started noticing flakey graphics on video playing, then went shopping on Amazon which kept telling me to upgrade my browser, and when I check the link to safari update, I am greeted with I have the latest version of safari. I checked my Last Yosemite update... it is current. I rebooted my computer went to bed, and today, nothing on Yahoo, Abc News, youtube will play when it comes to video. A conspiracy in the making to take down or disrupt all apple users I am sure must be going on. I say this because I checked another iMac which has been working flawlessly. And update to flash came in, I did not perform that update. Videos worked fine. That update was done and bam... no video playing on that computer either.
I think Apple should release something immediately and stop anymore flash on mac updates to be installed. Adobe needs to be notified that what ever they have released is killing all apple users who use safari.
ANYONE READING THIS BE AWARE THAT THE LATEST FLASH UPDATE PROMPT WILL KILL YOUR MAC SAFARI AND VIDEO PLAYING ON SAFARI WILL END. AMAZON and OTHER SITES WILL TELL YOU YOUR BROWSER IS OUT OF DATE, IGNORE THAT BECAUSE I THINK WHO OR WHAT EVER COMPANY IS BEHIND THIS HAS BEEN WORKING INSIDE WITH THOSE COMPANIES ALTERING CODE SO THAT PEOPLE ARE DRIVEN TO START UPDATING SOFTWARE IN HOPES OF SNAGGING THE UPDATE FROM ADOBE THAT CAUSES THINGS TO CEASE WORKING.
TODAY Both IMACS Running YoSemite will not play video and are both crashing with Graphic Hardware errors... 2 iMacs that are 2 years apart on Manufacture date, and both were working flawlessly this past weekend. -
ICal appears to work in Safari, but not in iCal
I'm running iCal server on 10.5.2 server. If I load up an iCal URL of the form:
http://ical.example.com:8008/calendars/users/myname/calendar/
in Safari, it asks me for my id and password for the '/Search' realm, and then I get a nicely presented bunch of XML chunks, which I'm guessing is right. I tried various other URLs and they all seemed to produce sensible looking output too, no errors or anything.
If I use the same URL in iCal when creating a new account, I just get this error:
Account information not found
Request encountered an unexpected error (domain (null) / code 0).
In the iCal access.log in Server Admin I can see each connection request logs a 401 (for the initial login request), followed by a 207 (Multi-Status WebDAV) response, which seems reasonable. However, iCal 3.0.2 seems not to like it.
I've also tried enabling SSL (using https and 8443) using a real certificate that works fine for web and mail, but then even the non-secure connection doesn't respond at all. I've turned that off for now.
Any idea what's wrong or how to fix this?some of this this may sound way basic and/or absurd, but give it a try. i'm finally up for a week now.
but i've been working with 10.5.2 server and there's little snags that trip up everything. first, stability for the entire server hinges on a rock solid dns and open directory base. in short, you must have a fully resolved dns setup or you'll hit wall after wall (208 errors, null 0 errors, etc). you've got to have a FQDN that passes "sudo changeip -checkhostname" (see elsewhere in forums for detailed info).
next, make sure you've started and stopped (reset) the ical server and the web server after making new groups.
did you check the firewall for all ports open that are needed?
if you've been moving things about and/or changing permissions, make sure the owner and groups have been reset to _calandar and _teamserver for ical serving and wiki/blog serving respectively.
i think ssl is a dead end and not related here.
finally, (this is the one that wasted my last weekend, chasing red herrings) make sure the trailing slash is present on your ical url. yes, that trailing "/" being absent will result in the null error.
hope something here hits it for you.
i feel your pain, seriously. hours and hours, days and days. -
I am having trouble in a few areas. 1. Pad is sluggish especially when typing. Email cancels out whenever, even while I am actively involved. 2. Need some version of Adobe Flash to use some programs. 3. Need to upgrade/update ioS but don't know how. 4. Safari refuses to allow most of these. Others have been successful, but not I. I need advice and help. Thanks. I am a 67 yr. old retired public school teacher. So you know I was not raised with my arm attached to a computer. I'm learning ans mostly do all right until I hit a snag like this.

Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

Safari Not Opening - or allowing a reinstall
This morning, Safari stopped opening. Although the icon bounced - no Safari. So deciding to reinstall I downloaded 3.1.1 - however attempting to install gives me an error that it cannot install to the hard drive as it requires 10.5.2 or higher. The only snag is that I am using 10.5.4 so completely stuck. Please help.
Hi Craig,
Cool, that's good to know. OK, back in your normal account, try moving all the following files/folders to your Desktop and then retry Safari:
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > Cookies > Cookies.plist
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > Safari > History.plist
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > Safari > Downloads.plist
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > Syndication
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist
If Safari now works, quit it again and try moving one of the files back and restart Safari - repeat the process until you discover the file/folder causing the problem.
Should Safari still fail to launch after moving those, check to see if you have anything in this folder as well (it's possible this folder may not exist so don't worry if you can't find it):
Hard drive > Users > Your Username > Library > InputManagers
If there is anything, move the contents of the folder onto your Desktop as well and then retry Safari. -
Safari freezing ALL the time...what to do?
Recently safari has been freezing all the time. I open, navigate to about 2 different pages, then it just freezes. When i type in a web address to go to, nothing happens like the internet isnt working. I can close the window fine, but when i go to quit the application, it never quits; i have to force quit it everytime. I have tried resetting it and installing it from Apple's website.
I do not know what else to do to fix this highly annoying issueSafari isn't freezing all the time for me, only about 70% of the time (but 99.5% of the time on the mapping sites I frequent lately in maps.live.com and maps.google.com).
Anyhow, I had a saved post that took me an hour or so to bounce around and snag links and all, but I can't find it now - long story short and apologies to those I may be not linking to, going to prefs/advanced/show developer menu (checked)/user agent safari 3.1-mac seems to have solved a lot of my problems.
Reading thru some of the posts I found that switching from custom user agent to default solved their problems. -
Safari version 7.0.6 (9537.78.2) is this correct?
I would like to know if this version of Safari is the latest and if it is valid. It has repopulated all info brought from iCloud even though I keep turning off the checkboxes so that nothing is uploaded to iCloud?

Safari 3.2: keychain trouble
I updated to Safari 3.2, and now when I try to access a passcoded website for which my username and password are stored in my Keychain, I get this message: "Safari has been updated. Do you want to allow the new version to access the same keychain items (such as passwords) as the previous version?" When I click "Change All", it spins for three minutes or more and then doesn't fill in my password on that site. Plus, this is happening each time I try to get on a passcoded website. Help!
After many actions that were unsuccessful, I went to the Mac OSX Software link in the apple menu (top left) and redownloaded, then reinstalled Safari 3.2.1 from the apple website.
When I then restarted (which I was prompted to do after the reinstall), opened Safari, and went to the passcode-asking websites, I got the same message saying that Safari had been updated, etc. (see original question), and I clicked "Change All." This went much more quickly than before (10 seconds v. 4 minutes) and then all seemed to be fixed--each password-asking website had my username and password already entered in automatically and there was no new "Safari has been updated, etc." pop-up, as had been the case before. The only snag: when I directed Safari here to write this, I got that same message again. With trepidation, I clicked "change all" again and after about 60-90 seconds, the pop-up disappeared and my username and password had been entered (which hadn't been happening prior to the redownloading). I rechecked my visits to password-asking sites, and there was still no funny pop-up and my password stuff had been automatically entered from Keychain. So, fingers crossed, it seems to be fixed. -
Log in to a Public Network with Safari
I have tried to log in to a Hotel airport network with Safari and get the 'Site doesn't exist" page and it will not go further. I have a strong signal and the correct IP numbers. On a whim I switched to Firefox and Bingo there was the login page. I presently have both browsers open and they both work now that I'm logged in. Can anyone explain this behavior to me.
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Done - it does not address my issue
Also try this - Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Done and done; does not resolve the issue.
To clarify: I am trying to log into an existing home WiFi network. Signal comes in to a (DSL) modem/router ["ZyXEL P-600 series" 802.11 b/g}. This is administered via a Windows PC (running a Czech localized version) directly by Ethernet cabling.
There are 2 password protected networks "on" this account.
17" MacBook Pro sees both channels, and can log into either. (and auto-connected as a remembered Network from a previous visit, to one channel)
15" Macbook Pro sees both channels, and can log into either.
BOTH of our IPad 2's see both channels. Both of the iPad 2's present a password entry window when selecting either channel. I enter the exact same password that I entered into the laptop(s), for the appropriate channel.
"Unable to connect to [channel name]" is the consistent response.
Again, the iPads see the network options, and I have typed in the correct passwords using the US English and the Czech QWERTY keyboard options, and the iPads will NOT connect, whereas the laptops work perfectly with the same Network channel passwords.
I would understand an alphanumeric password being a potential snag, given the different key mappings, but the main account is a simple 5 (five) digit numeric password. -
Itunes,Mail, Safari,AND Firefox closing!
Hello there. This has been happening the past two days. When I use safari, text will be garbled, letters missing in the headers, and all the text pushed to the left.
When I try to go to certain sites like wikipedia, safari and firefow will close and Ill get the pop ups saying "blah blah program has closed unexpectedly"[...] .
When I try to connect to the itunes music store, itunes will fail and when I try and view my mail from the mail app, that will close as well.
This seems all tied into the internet so is there anything I can do?To Apple Discussions!

I've run into a snag and it has me a little puzzled. Tekton Pro does not want to display in Safari. It displays fine in Mozilla and IE but not in Safari. Has anyone else had issues with this?
CSS:
.navStyle{text-align:center; font-family:Tekton Pro; font-size:20px;}
Online 'workshop' : )
gtworkspace.comFYI I don't have Tekton Pro on my system. So I couldn't see it if I wanted to.
Change this:
.navStyle{text-align:center; font-family:Tekton Pro; font-size:20px;}
to this:
.navStyle {
text-align:center;
font: 20px "Tekton Pro", Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Sans-Serif;
If you don't wrap quotes around Tekton Pro it won't be picked up in some browsers. Also, if you don't provide alternative fonts for people who don't have Tekton Pro installed on their system, they may get something radically different than what you had in mind. See link below on Web Safe Fonts
