  • Safari is extremely slow to load pages & saving my bookmarks to my folders

why is safari so extremely slow in loading pages? it can just about load my e-mail, if I wait about 5 minutes & I cannot check my t mobile cell phone balance because it gets stuck loading the page.
Also I cannot get it to save bookmarks into my designated named bookmark folders anymore, it only will save to the bookmarks bar

I have also heard about the cover flow feature, but I do not see it in my safari, where is it?
Look at this picture and you'll find it. Just click on the marked area/button.

  • Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.

Itunes starts extremely slow after an update of windows 8.1.
It takes up to 10 minutus.
If I see the appliction log in event viewer then I see the following errors on the Bonjour service.
    For instance:
Client application bug: DNSServiceResolve(a8:fa:d8:3a:1e:8f@fe80::aafa:d8ff:fe3a:1e8f._apple-mobdev2._t cp.local.) active for over two minutes. This places considerable burden on the network.
    followed by
SendWakeupPacket error: sent -1 bytes: 10065
    What can this be?
    Already thanks,
    John

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Safari 5 extremely slow and unstable,  feels like early beta

    Hi,
since i upgraded to safari 5 the browser is extremely slow on loading webpages, unresponsive and often can't establish any connection to websites at all. one time it even crashed.
the whole thing feels like an early beta. i have no addons or what so ever installed, safari 4 worked incredibly well before.
since i've read many similar postings concerning this issue i hope apple will be offering a fix soon...!

I have the same problems! .. Some times I have no internet connection, but if I start up Firefox or google chrome, I get internet connection.
Often for no reason Safari stops responding .. It's a shame b/c it's extremely fast vs Firefox
Seems like I have to stick to Chrome until a update follows
btw. Nice job on the look and feel on the Safari 5 expecialy the combined history search in the address line looking forward to a stable release

  • From one day to another, my MB starts EXTREMELY SLOW

everything seems to work fine, but from one day to the next one my macbook takes a long time to start, is there anything i can do to fix that? i have 2 gigs of ram so i dont think this should happen at least it didnt like 3 days ago, ive used the onyx program to restart everything i could (meaning cache memory vram and that stuff) any other suggestions?
    thank you in advance

    Hello,
Using Onyx ™ makes your next startup extremely slow because it erases all of the cached files. Your startup speed will not return to normal until 2~3 startups after using Onyx™. Do you have these issues when you don't use Onyx ™?

  • After encrypting with filevault 2 on mountain lion, safari is extremely slow

after encrypting with filevault2 on mountain lion, safari is running extremely slow.
it's taking more than 45 seconds (sometimes a full minute) to load pages.
my internet speeds are 35 mbps download and 6.35 mpbs upload, so it's not my internet connection.
i have deleted the cache files and the system preferences.
i'm finding that chrome is faster, but i'm seeing slowness there too.
in encrypted using filevault 2.0 yesterday, all software is up to date.
can anyone please help me with this?  i don't want to have to turn off filevault.
    thanks!

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have a wrong owner. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it, then drag or copy it — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    find . $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID \) -ls
Press return. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If any personal information appears in the output, edit before posting, but don’t remove the context.

  • Safari is Extremely slow loading pages, like Hotmail, eBay, CNN,

For the past few days, Safari has been extremely slow loading most all pages, especially Hotmail, eBay, CNN, etc. Apple support hasn't been able to help. Hve done all the normal stuff, Reset Safari, restarted, etc.... eventually reloaded Leopard, with all updates, 10.5.2. Still slow uploading pages. Have checked network with speedtest.net, Download 5019 kb/s, Upload 363 kb/s. Was told by everyone I asked, these were good speeds, "normal." But it takes 20 seconds - 60 seconds sometime to upload a page. Have watched "activity monitor" under network, "data sent" goes out fast, data received seems to come back but then stalls. I'm not sure of what numbers I should be getting on the return. Any suggestions????

READ my post, March 17, for answers. I read other post, March 15-08, by Toshinmac and March 17-08 post by Rudolf, answered by Hawaiian Starman and Klaus1. My problem decribed there, with Time-Warner/Roadrunner DNS settings. Followed advice... Problem Solved! Thanks to ALL for their input!!!! A Beachbum!

  • Safari is EXTREMELY slow suddenly...

My Mac was shut down for the night because of a severe thunder storm approaching.
This morning, launching it, Safari has been EXTREMELY slow... I did check the internet speed couple times, using couple sites, and all show excellent speed (27 Mbps down, 5 up, at 10ms ping), yet Safari takes forever to open a page.
When searching this forum for "safari slow" the URL windows was showing a hugely-long address (which gave me nothing):
So I'm asking, what's the deal here? What couold be wrong, and how to fix it?
    ..Thanks.

I actually did just that a week ago, when the speed deteriorated to a trickle, but then I found it it was a problem with our Comcast service in the area.
Right after posting my question I was contemplating repairing the disc permissions (which is a good thing to do periodically) but instead, I did what I've been doing for years, whenever my Mac is acting crazy:  I ZAPPED THE PRAM (restart while pressing Command-Option-P-R), 3-4 cycles.  Mac is back to normal...  I've heard from several experts that the newer OS does not need that, but I still find it beneficial (and so easy to do).

  • Safari is extremely slow loading web pages, i have to latest software, no updating needed

Safari is really slow loading internet pages and uploading images. I have the latest software update. I just purchased this mac book pro within the last 3 months..just frustrating that it's already this slow so soon....Any suggestions? I called tech support and nothing they walked me through helped. He was going to reinstall everything but I wanted to wait and see if there was anything else I could possible do before considering I just got this notebook, I hate to reinstall everything. It seems like there should be a simpler solution...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Safari works extremely slow or become unresponsive

    Hello,
My safari seems to be really slow, at times, unresponsive where i cant force quit and have to do a hard shut down on the keyboard. I thought it was my wifi connection but i have another laptop in the house that connects and surfs the web fine. Everytime i would open it, it would freeze up and the beach all would spin. Other application works fine but i dont have Firefox or chrome. I have a 2010 15" inch MacBook Pro. I tried doing a couple of solutions i found online such as clearing my cache in utilities, i even got the chance to open safari and clear history once, i also repaired disk permissions. Still, nothing worked for me. This problem began to start when i purchased a external hard drive to place all my iTunes music in it. It attempt to back up when i first installed it but i stopped it. Im not sure if that has to do with anything. I know a bit about computers but im no IT expert. Can someone please help find a solution? Much appreciated.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
    If there's no improvement, continue.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Safari starts getting slower and slower loading pages

Hi, i have always been a pc person, but recently made the switch to mac. i love it, but have an issue with safari. My internet speed is 17mbps so thats ok. Now after a few weeks of browsing the safari gets slow at loading pages, i have deleted history and emptied the cache. I had spoken with support during the 90 days free support. Now that has expired. They told me to get to the "verify permissions" then do "repair permissions" as there are a lot of error messages that are brought up. Once i have done this the internet is fine again - but obviously somethig is a miss as it starts slowing down over the weeks. Would upgrading to the latest version of snow leopard sort this? any ideas of other reasons. any help much appreciated

(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl. If you are running Snow Leopard, run Safari in 32 bit not 64 bit.)
Do you have enough RAM? Less than 1GB can cause slowness. Is your hard drive too full? Less than 15%, or 15GB, of free space can also cause slowness.
Adding DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
(An explanation of why using Open DNS is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values

  • Safari 4 extremely slow

In the discussion forum of Swedish MacWorld (the magazine) we are currently four participants that experience the same problem. When visiting a certain website, called "Blocket" ("The Pad") Safari (v. 4.1.2 and 4.1.3) sometimes gets very slow. In particular scrolling pages is slow, and the Safari menus are too.
There is nothing funny about this site as such. It is the most popular advertising site in our country.
The problem is caused by one or two files that are created in Users>[user folder]>Library>Safari>LocalStorage and that derive from this particular site. One may turn Safari off and throw them away, but in a week or so they will have been recreated and the problem reappears.
So what is one to do? Write an applescript that automatically deletes these file (files) at upstart? Update Safari (and possibly the OS version)? Use Firefox?

Is he using  an ATT or VZW iPhone..also, is he using wi-fi or the cellular data network?  If wi-fi I wonder if another non mobile device, say a laptop or something, connected to the same access point, has the same slow issues.  This article has some additional details about troubleshooting wi-fi

  • Opening tabs in Safari becomes extremely slow

I have noticed that after having Safari open (in the background, not always being actively used) for a while that it will eventually become very slow at opening new tabs. I use iStat menus, and when Safari becomes slow, it will max out the CPU when opening a new tab, but once it opens it goes back to minimal CPU usage. When I quit and reopen Safari, it goes back to normal. I do have Safari set to open Top Sites when I open a new tab.
Any thoughts as to why this occurs?
    Thanks
    Ian

    Hi prusi;
When your disk gets close to full that can cause two problems; slow performance and file corruption on your disk.
First I would suggest you delete enough files so that when it get low it remains above at the very least 10 GB, 15 GB would be better. Good candidate for deletion are music, photo or video files just because they take up so much space. A good tool to help you with this is OmniDiskSweeper.
Second that you boot from the install DVD for your Mac and repair the disk. If you don't repair the disk and leave the corruption there, it can lead to some very strange problems in the future.
