This can happen if adware  is installed without your knowledge. Removing it will help.
Try this.
1.Use free AdwareMedic to remove the adware
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Download, drag it to the application folder , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
    Once done, quit AdwareMedic.
               or
Remove the adware  manually  by following the “HowTo” from Apple.
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari to test .
Turn those on one by one and test.
Note:
If you don’t have another browser installed,
Shut down the computer.
Press the power button. Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be pressed as soon as possible after startup, but not before the startup sound.
Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo on the screen. Startup will take longer than usual.
Login to your account. Launch Safari.
Follow the  steps posted above to remove the adware.
Once done, quit Safari and restart the computer from  in the menu bar.

  • How to download i-photo after yosemite download?

I cannot dowload i-photo 9.6 after having downloaded yosemite. what to do?

10,000 isn't a lot of pics. AN iPhoto Library is good for 1,000,000.
    Sounds like a damaged database.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(1226 ' 0.5 0.25 10 1000 15 5120 1000 25000 1 1 0 100 ' 51 25600 4 10 25 5120 102400 1000 25 1000 80 40 500 300 85 25 20480 262144 20     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it. Then go to the next step.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I may not agree with them.

  • Safari hangs after Yosemite update

Updated to 10.10.3  Safari now hangs, won't open any webpages.  I did clear history and cookies and restarted Safari.  No luck.  Firefox running with no issues.
Safari is the default browser.. (but that will be changing shortly)

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
    4. Here's a general summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a particular line of text to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
These are not specific instructions; just an overview. The details are in parts 7 and 8 of this comment. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time.
    7. Load this linked web page (on the website "Pastebin.") The title of the page is "Diagnostic Test." Below the title is a text box headed by three small icons. The one on the right represents a clipboard. Click that icon to select the text, then copy it to the Clipboard on your computer by pressing the key combination command-C.
If the text doesn't highlight when you click the icon, select it by triple-clicking anywhere inside the box. Don't select the whole page, just the text in the box.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window to activate it. Paste from the Clipboard into the window by pressing command-V, then press return. The text you pasted should vanish immediately.
The test results are on the Clipboard.
In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak for themselves, not for me. The test itself is harmless, but whatever else you're told to do may not be. For others who choose to run it, I don't recommend that you post the test results on this website unless I asked you to.

  • Safari Slow After Yosemite 10.10.3 Update

    Hi,
I just updated the software in my iMac to 10.10.3 and suddenly Safari is very slow. I downloaded Google Chrome and it downloads web pages as normal (quickly). Can I know whether there is a fix to this problem.

There are many possible causes for problems with web browsing. Below are some simple steps that may help either to solve the problem or isolate the cause.
Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Restart your router and also your broadband device, if they're separate.
    2. If you connect to the the router with Wi-Fi, turn off Wi-Fi and then back on.
    3. If you connect with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi.
    4. If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed.
    5. Select the Extensions tab in the Preferences window. Turn all extensions OFF and test. If there's an improvement, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
    6. If you're running OS X 10.10 or later, select the Search tab. Uncheck the box marked
              Enable Quick Website Search
    if it's checked.
    7. If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Quit and relaunch the browser.
    8. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest.
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    9. Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
    10. If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test.
    11. If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test.
    12. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the boxes marked Safari and Photos, if they're checked.
    13. Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and if so, are they affected?
    14. If you can, test Safari on another network.
    15. Start up in Recovery mode. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.

  • Safari hangs after Yosemite install;

    I installed Yosemite on my MAC Book Pro;
    When my Mac is in sleep mode and the cover is closed, Safari hangs and I get a blank screen;
The only fix I found was to restart the Mac and safari is back.
any recommendations on how to fix the safari issue?

    thanks for the reply;
I can quit safari fine; no need to force quit; I get a white screen and nothing happens.
    I can quit safari normally;
I restart it and get the same white screen
However when I restart my Mac , safari works fine.
This process happens every morning;  I close the cover  to my Mac at night, and try to start it the following day.

  • Using Yahoo mail via Safari problem after IOS8 download

After downloading the IOS 8 update on my I5c, I am unable to sign in to my email account on Yahoo mail. I access this account on my phone via Safari. Prior to the download of IOS 8, I had no problem getting into my Yahoo account. Each time I tried to access the account I would get the Yahoo message :In order to use Yahoo mail, turn Private Browsing off.: I believe IOS8 is the problem because I have used my wife's I5c and get easy access to my Yahoo mail account. Has anyone experienced this problem? And what the heck is Private Browsing?

    Dmedema wrote:
When I'm using Safari to access my yahoo mail accounts, I can write the addy and subject lines perfectly. The keyboard automatically comes up and I simply type in the info. I accesses my contacts perfectly and auto-types them in as begin the info. The trouble is that the IPad won't let me type anything in the text or message area. I can't get the keyboard to come up at all.
    Any ideas?
Yes, what you describe is correct. With the new Yahoo "Mail Plus" a "smart" editable text box is displayed for the message area which the Safari iPad does not support. To use Yahoo mail you have to switch to the "Mail Classic" view. To do this look for the "Options" pull-down menu item on the upper right part of the mail page and select "Mail Classic". This should work for you.

  • Video streaming stops after partial download on apple tv

Hi. I've got wild blue internet, an HP Pavilion running iTunes in Windows XP, an airport extreme base station, apple tv, and a macbook. I've had the apple tv for about 7 months, connected over wireless. I've never been able to watch youtube videos. They partially load and start playing, but only go about half way and stop. They almost never fully load. I can watch the same video on the macbook over wireless, and it works just fine. I had assumed it was an apple tv problem, and hoped the new software update would fix it. It hasn't. Same situation, except now it's worse because I'd actually like to watch trailers and rent movies, but they still only partially load.
Content on the HP computer syncs properly with ATV. I can watch the movies and listen to the music just fine. It's only content that streams from the internet that messes up, and only with apple tv. I also wondered if the satellite internet was a problem, but if it is, it's only with apple tv. Youtube and movie trailers work fine on the macbook over wireless.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Winston,
I was initially just trying to watch ANY trailers. Virtually everything on ATV stalled after a minute or so. Switching to exclusively wireless n transmission from the AEBS seems to have fixed everything. We haven't tried to download movies, but probably won't since we're on satellite internet and have a fair access policy that limits our downloads to 17 gig a month. That's plenty for youtube and other normal usage, but I'm afraid too many movies would mess things up.
Wildblue has a configuration utility that we can set up on the computers, but nothing like that for ATV. I had thought that might be the problem originally, so I used a macbook (2.0 CD) that hadn't run the configuration setup, and it still worked fine for youtube stuff.
I didn't know things were streaming from different sources, when I was trying to watch the same video. Makes sense though. Thanks for the reply.

  • Safari crashing after Yosemite upgrade

Safari will open up, but if I try to go to a webpage I just get the spinning wheel and I have to force quit. Does anyone know what's causing this? Firefox and Chrome work just fine.

I am also having the same issue, and Firefox is working fine for me too. I don't have Chrome installed though. It seems that I can open Safari and then after like 10-15 seconds, regardless of what I am doing, it freezes and the spinning wheel comes up. Then I have to force quit through the Activity Monitor. Never had any problems with Safari until right after upgrading to Yosemite. Also, when I boot and I login to my account, I get this dialogue box that says something like "You need Java Runtime Environments to view this webpage." This is odd to me because I didn't even open any applications yet and as far as I'm concerned, Java is fully updated. Really hoping someone has an answer or its just a bug that Apple will patch soon.

  • Safari freezes after yosemite update

    Hi,
I've just updated my MacBook to Yosemite but since then when i launch Safari it stops responding right away and there is nothing i can do with it.
Good thing i had Firefox already installed on my computer. Anyone with the same problem ?
    Thanks

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 - After Yosemite upgrade, Dreamweaver crashes when trying to go "Live". How do I fix this?

Upgraded to OS 10.10.1 (Yosemite) and now the "Live" function in Dreamweaver (CS6) crashes the software. Help!!!! How do I fix this???

You could try clearing the program cache and/or restoring preferences...
    Deleting a corrupted cache file
Restore preferences | Dreamweaver CS6, Dreamweaver CC
The "Nuke it from orbit", you don't generally do this until other options have failed, option is...
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Can't open App Store after Yosemite download.

This is the first time I have had any problems with upgrading versions. Particularly frustrated with not being able to get into the App Store right now. Icon on dock won't work. Tried through launch pad and Apple website as well. Nothing opens it. Any one have an idea on how to get there? Is there another way I'm missing?

Finally! I got everything working. Re-booted my Mac in Recovery mode, and re-installed Yosemite. Sat here through the entire process (which I didn't do before), and bam, everything now works. Shut down your computer and re-open it holding both the command and R keys down Until the recovery box pops up. Worked for me anyhow.

  • Photoshop keeps crashing after Yosemite download

I installed OS Yosemite last night and now I can't use photoshop for more than 5 minutes without it crashing!
I have only got 1 image with a few layers open at any one time so I know that I'm not overworking my macbook.  Randomly, my laptop will just close the file and then attempt to recover it, and will ask if I want to send a crash report.  This has happened about 10 times in the last half an hour!
Just wondering if anyone else is having difficulties?  I am using Photoshop CS6 and have never had any issues with it until today.

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
