Safari stopped suggesting passwords

iMac late 2012
OS X 10.9.4
Safari Version 7.0.5 (9537.77.4)
Inconsistent, not each time, but I need that function to work--
Any ideas? I looked over the earlier posts about similar problems but nothing was quite the same as my case.
Thanks--

Back up all data. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.

  • Safari not suggesting passwords

I have been trying to figure out how to have Safari 7 suggest passwords and it will not suggest 1. It is syncing keychain information via iCloud as I expect but what is the trick to have Safari generate a password?
    Mavericks, Safari 7, iOS 7.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Passwords tab.
Make sure:  AutoFill user names and passwords   is selected.

  • How to get Safari to suggest passwords when only one field is present?

Safari works great when there are two fields to enter a password - a password field followed by a "confirm password" field - but doesn't seem to work when there is only one field to enter a new password.  Any suggestions?

    Hi,
we have done something like this using seltab.
One inputfield, user can enter anything same like in google like
    name:ab*,dob:1972
write a conversion method to parse this input to seltab like
        clear ls_seltab.
        ls_seltab-sign  = 'I'.
        if lv_value cs '*'.
          li_lng = sy-fdpos.
          ls_seltab-option = 'BT'.
        else.
          ls_seltab-option = 'EQ'.
          ls_seltab-low    = lv_value.
        endif.
use your seltab to retrieve data from the table.
In anyway.. you can search resources in this direction to build your solution.

  • Safari stopped saving passwords

I deleted an an entry from my sav password list because I was changing to a new password.  Now Safari is not asking to save the new password.  I tried quiting then reopenning Safari and logging on and off the site several times, but I still can not save the password.
If I can't get Safari to save it, is there a safe 3rd party program or App I can have on my MACs to store and enter IDs and passwords?

If Safari doesn’t ask whether you want to save your user name and password, choose Safari > Preferences, click AutoFill, and turn on “User names and passwords.

Sometimes unchecking and rechecking the preference setting restores the default.

  • Safari suggested password, did not save

I just changed the password for a web service (the setup for a network printer) and safari conveniently suggested a password (some random string of numbers and characters), which I accepted. Unfortunately, safari did not seem to have remembered it and I of course didn't write it down. So now I am locked out (for good, I probably have to reset the device back to factory settings, if that is even possible).
Anyone ever had this problem? Any idea where I could find this password? It is not in my iCloud keychain. I only find the old password there and not the new one that was suggested by safari. This is pretty annoying and in my opinion a pretty serious bug for a password managing system.
    I'm using Safari Version 8.0.2 (10600.2.5) on Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)

Yes it is. And as I explained, I did this with 2 forums, one worked as expected and the other did not.
I also have "allow autofill even for websites that don't want passwords to be saved" checked, so there is no reason for this password not to be saved.
If something about the website is preventing the Safari functionality from working, it would be better if Safari did not suggest a password. Suggesting a password makes the user think the password is being saved when it isn't.

  • Safari stops loading

Since a few days Safari stops loading some websites before completing (including Apple.com). The proposed solution on this forum to add two DNS codes does not help in my case.
    Your suggestions will be appreciated!

    Try resetting Safari:
IMPORTANT: Resetting Safari removes all cookies, saved passwords, and saved AutoFill information, not just the ones saved during the current browsing session. Cookies saved by other applications may also be removed.
    To reset:
    Choose Safari > Reset Safari.
Deselect any items you don’t want to reset:
Clear history: Clears the stored addresses of webpages you’ve viewed.
Empty the cache: Clears the temporary location on your computer where Safari saves webpages you’ve viewed. The cache helps webpages load more quickly.
Clear the Downloads window: Clears the list of files you’ve downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.
Remove all cookies: Removes cookies that websites have stored on your computer.
Remove all website icons: Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the Safari address bar and bookmarks list, and other places. These icons are stored on your computer.
Remove saved names and passwords: Removes user names and passwords, which Safari remembers for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on.
Remove other AutoFill form text: Removes some personal information, such as telephone numbers, used to automatically complete forms on webpages. Safari remembers this information for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on. Removing AutoFill information does not remove information from your address book.
Clear Google searches: Clears the Google search field of recent searches, which are normally saved in a list viewed by clicking the search field’s magnifying glass icon.
Close all Safari windows: If you don’t close all Safari windows, someone could use the Back and Forward buttons to view the webpages you’ve visited.
    Click Reset.
Open windows are closed and a new window opens. The new window has a new history for the Back and Forward buttons and the SnapBack buttons.

  • Can't find a suggested password (iCloud Keychain)

I logged in to a website with username and password. Website recommended me to change a password. Keychain offered a suggested password so I clicked on it. Unfortunately, now I can't find this suggested password. In Safari - Preferences - Passwords is only earlier password, which doesn' t work.

I'm going to add a reply to this because I came across a similar issue using Safari - which does actually use "keychain" (firefox keeps its own passwords).  There seems to be something technically wrong in the interaction with the amtrak.com site, and I have to think if firefox user have similar issue as safari, it's with the site and not the browsers.  When I find the the record based on inspecting the password it's filed under the username that is provided to login and the location "where" is just "http://" - this seems wrong to me.  So if you are looking for your amtrak.com password in your safari saved passwords / keychain look for the username and location http://.

  • Safari providing incorrect passwords

I have upgraded tp Mavericks and have enabled icloud keychain for passwords etc.
I have used the suggested passwords provided by safari yet when I come to log back into these sites I'm told the passwords are incorrect or safari does not offer to autofill my username/password.
I have checked the settings and all seems to be correct.  Is this a bug?
    Dave

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Passwords tab.
Select each website associated with an incorrect password then click Remove.
Now select the Autofill tab. Make sure:  User names and passwords is selected.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.
If that doesn't help, open Keychain Access located in Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of a website with an incorrect password top right corner of that window.
Then control click that keychain then click Delete.
Do the same for the other websites.
Back to Safari. Go to a website. Login as usual. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
If you continue to have problems, don't use iCloud Keychain. Open System Preferences > iCloud then deslect the box next to:  Keychain

  • Why does my safari stops working every time I try to swipe back to previous page

My safari stops working every time I try to swipe (multitouch) back to previous page? There's no spinning beach ball or anything, but the page just stops responding altogether. If I close the non-responding page fast enough the other pages remain fine, but if I just leave the non-reponding page as it is the entire app become non-reponsive and need to be forced quite. I'm running OS X 10.9.1 on a late 2012 MacBook Pro Ret. Anyone having the same prob?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari stops loading website

I have one of the new 27" imacs, with the Apple airport router, Safari 6.05 and OS X 10.8.5.  As of the last upgrade , when clicking on websites or if I'm tryiing to open one of my favorite links, safari stops loading the website.  The only way to load any website is by me going to the address bar clicking on it and hitting enter, once I do this the site will load, this is not the only problem along with website if I'm watching a video half way through the video it will come to a complete stop and no matter how many times I hit the play button nothing happens. To get the video to run I have to hit the back button leave the webpage and  then go forward back to the video click the play where the video will completely load and Im able to finish watching the video.  It doesn't matter if its youtube, hulu or any other service I get the same results.   Does anyone have any suggestions how to resolve this problem.

Have you installed the supplemental update to 10.8.5?

  • Still no way to force Safari to generate passwords?

It drives me crazy that I can't get Safari to suggest a password when I want it to.  Is there no workaround for this?

  • I have ipad 2. Safari stopped working. Screen appears with light gray cover. Some websites show errors when debug is on. But how actually can I debug or fix it? Thank you.

I have ipad 2. Safari stopped working. Screen appears with light gray cover and is frozen. Some websites show errors when debug is on.
But how actually can I debug or fix it? Thank you.

    Here are a couple suggestions:
    1.  Go into Settings > Safari and Clear Cookies Clear Cache
    2.  Fully close Safari:  from your home screen, double tap your home button and the most recently used Apps will show up.  Hold your finger on the Safari App until all Apps start jiggling.  You'll see a minus sign on the upper left side of Safari.  Touch the minus and Safari will fully close.  Touch your home button again to stop apps from jiggline, then touch your home button again to return to your home page.
    3.  Reboot your iPad:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart, but no data or settings will be lost.
After iPad comes back up, try Safari again, and you should be good to go.

  • Ipad stopped remembering passwords

Ipad stopped remembering passwords.  I just updated and now it will not remember usernames or passwords. I verified the safari setting to remember passwords is on.  Found several other links complaining about this, but no fix. Is this a ML issue or Safari?

I'm having this problem as well. It seems like it was a more recent firefox update. I temporary solved this by deleting my sqlite keyfile as described in another post I found in a different forum, but it's since reoccured.
After I restart my system and run firefox, it's like it's running right after an update, or an install. None of my settings are saved, and password and cookies don't appear to be loaded either.
Is there any debug information I can provide?
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and Firefox 3.6.13.
Oddly if I close and restart Firefox it's fine. It's only after a Windows restart that I see an issue. Disk check runs clean. I've also deleted my profile directory and had FF recreate it. Still having issues though.

  • Safari stops responding when I try to bookmark (and other slow problems!)

Two weeks ago my logicboard died, so I sent my ibook out to Apple for it to be fixed. Ever since I got it back this past Tuesday, my Safari has been extremely slow, but nothing else is wrong with my computer. Here are the problems:
    - The biggest issue is that Safari stops responding when I try to make a bookmark. The popup appears to select the bookmark's destination and to enter the name, but when you hit ok, the rainbow wheel comes up and it stops responding, so I have to reset Safari, and now I can't make new bookmarks at all.
    - It lags when it tries to open new windows, especially new tabs.
    - If a new page loads that scrolls at all, and then I try to scroll down, the wheel appears for several seconds until it can load the rest of the page. It's as though it gets stuck before it can scroll.
    - Sometimes when typing, it will also start to lag behind my typing speed, or if I try to click on a new field, it will not immediately allow me to type on occasion.
All these things have never happened before I sent it out. I have reset my cache, and I have tried entering the open DNS addresses in my networks, which has improved loading speed, but hasn't fixed any of these problems. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong and how I can fix anything?

    Try verifying the hard disk.
Boot from your restore disk while holding down the C key until you see the Apple logo, then let go of the C key. You'll see an Installation window, select English. From the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab, then click Verify. If DU reports errors, click Repair. If Disk Utility cannot repair the disk you have several options. One is DiskWarrior or
TechToolPro If Disk Utility can repair any errors, go back to the Menu Bar, click Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If you don't have a restore disk, try booting into Safe Mode
