Safari stops loading: just hanging

Safari starts loading and then just hangs half-way. I have tried resetting the cache, updating etc. but nothing seems to stop this from happening. Used Chrome and it seemed to works fine: pages load fast, no hanging.
What is happening to Safari?

I have same problem!

  • Firefox 3.6.13 would not load under xp on acer computer. deleted in and downloaded version 4, but still does not load, just hangs system. what is wrong?

a couple weeks ago, firefox stopped loading (just hung system) on my acer computer running windows xp. I deleted firefox and downloaded versin 4.0.1. But, the same thing is happening. it starts to load but then stops responding and hangs the system. what is wrong?

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

  • Safari stops loading

Since a few days Safari stops loading some websites before completing (including Apple.com). The proposed solution on this forum to add two DNS codes does not help in my case.
    Your suggestions will be appreciated!

    Try resetting Safari:
IMPORTANT: Resetting Safari removes all cookies, saved passwords, and saved AutoFill information, not just the ones saved during the current browsing session. Cookies saved by other applications may also be removed.
    To reset:
    Choose Safari > Reset Safari.
Deselect any items you don’t want to reset:
Clear history: Clears the stored addresses of webpages you’ve viewed.
Empty the cache: Clears the temporary location on your computer where Safari saves webpages you’ve viewed. The cache helps webpages load more quickly.
Clear the Downloads window: Clears the list of files you’ve downloaded from websites. Only the names are removed; the files themselves are still on your disk until you remove them.
Remove all cookies: Removes cookies that websites have stored on your computer.
Remove all website icons: Removes website icons, which are small graphics that help identify sites on the Internet. You see them in the Safari address bar and bookmarks list, and other places. These icons are stored on your computer.
Remove saved names and passwords: Removes user names and passwords, which Safari remembers for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on.
Remove other AutoFill form text: Removes some personal information, such as telephone numbers, used to automatically complete forms on webpages. Safari remembers this information for you when the AutoFill feature is turned on. Removing AutoFill information does not remove information from your address book.
Clear Google searches: Clears the Google search field of recent searches, which are normally saved in a list viewed by clicking the search field’s magnifying glass icon.
Close all Safari windows: If you don’t close all Safari windows, someone could use the Back and Forward buttons to view the webpages you’ve visited.
    Click Reset.
Open windows are closed and a new window opens. The new window has a new history for the Back and Forward buttons and the SnapBack buttons.

  • Safari stopped loading all images!

Safari stopped loading all images! Do I have to reinstall or is there a better fix for this?

Yep.  Don't know how programs get the nerve to bug-out on their own, but surfing through the forums gave me the inkling to look further.  I had to post the no-brainer since it seemed so painfully obvious!

  • Safari stops loading website

I have one of the new 27" imacs, with the Apple airport router, Safari 6.05 and OS X 10.8.5.  As of the last upgrade , when clicking on websites or if I'm tryiing to open one of my favorite links, safari stops loading the website.  The only way to load any website is by me going to the address bar clicking on it and hitting enter, once I do this the site will load, this is not the only problem along with website if I'm watching a video half way through the video it will come to a complete stop and no matter how many times I hit the play button nothing happens. To get the video to run I have to hit the back button leave the webpage and  then go forward back to the video click the play where the video will completely load and Im able to finish watching the video.  It doesn't matter if its youtube, hulu or any other service I get the same results.   Does anyone have any suggestions how to resolve this problem.

Have you installed the supplemental update to 10.8.5?

  • Safari stopped loading after an update

safari stopped loading, so i tried to download safari disk image from the apple site but when i try to open it i get the error that disk image failed to mount because it was "not recognized" i tried opening as a test user but got the same error. So then i dragged the original safari application to the trash and tried it but got the same error again

That generally means a bad download, or a Disk corruption problem.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Safari stops loading images randomly

When I'm using Safari, it will be working fine, and then for some unknown reason, it will just stop loading images, and a small blue box with a question mark will appear instead.
This happens on all sorts of pages, it can be a page that was loading fine before, then no images will load.
Also, the problem does eventually go away, and then images start loading again.
I noticed tonight that it started happening when my battery was low...could it be related to battery power?
    Help! This is very annoying.

I'd love to know why this seems to have worked...
DNS - Domain Name System - is the system that tells your computer and web browser where to look for a domain like www.apple.com. The domain is just a name - some system has to be used to figure out where that site actually resides, so it can be loaded in a web browser.
Basically, each ISP sends you to a DNS server that looks up a domain (e.g. www.apple.com) and figures out what that domain's IP address is (e.g. 17.149.160.49 ). Your web browser is then directed to that physical address and is able to load the web site you were looking for.
Some DNS servers (nameservers) can be flaky, either not providing updated addresses or being slow to access. Sometimes there are problems in communication somewhere between your computer, your router, your modem, and the DNS server. Often those problems can be fixed by manually entering your ISP's nameserver addresses or by using alternate nameserver addresses. Common alternate nameservers are Verizon's DNS servers (which include the addresses 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2) and the OpenDNS DNS servers (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220).
By specifying nameserver addresses in your System Preferences or in your router's settings, you are choosing to use a different system for finding web sites than the one your ISP is using and/or you might be solving any communication problems that might exist somewhere between your computer and the nameserver you're using.

  • Safari stops loading after a few pages...

This is a revisit of a problem I've had for almost a year now...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3181078#3181078
Open a couple of pages (fine) but from then on the progress blue bar makes it to the end of the http:// text and stops.
The browser is running and there's no sign of App not responding... leading to a force quit. It simply stops loading the pages.
This is even happening after installing Public Beta so I'm guessing it's deeper in the OS than any of teh files replaced or cleaned with this new install.
I like Safari, but not when there is a silly corruption/fault like this.
    Thanks
    Nigel.

I'm having a similar problem. Browser won't get past http not only with Safari but with Firefox as well. But with a few twists. My computer will actually crash on some pages running flash after a few minutes. Are you connecting to internet wirelessly?
I was at genius bar today and of course the computer seemed to be working ok, after crashing on me two or three times in the morning. But that was before I came up with the flash theory. They checked the crash log and saw an issue with airport. So they think it's an issue with my home router/modem unit. But I'm not so sure because my other computers, pc's, are doing ok. So I'm beginning to think it's an issue with the Airport card in the computer. I'm in process of trying to narrow it down now.
Could airport card be getting funky after being on for a few minutes? my computer is only a few weeks old.

  • HT4059 iBooks - some books never load - just hang

I added iBooks to my sons iPad (1)
I went to my purchased books and attempted to download (from iCloud) the childrens books I had purchased and loaded on my iPad (mini)
The books NEVER download! - They just hang and even if I delete the app and all contents and start again it does the same thing every time!
I even plugged the iPad into my Macbook to sync by wire. - Same problem. Tried this for hours - no luck.
I tried to upload a grown up book and it worked... Both devices use the same apple ID
    Very frustrating - any ideas?

    Hi vmarlin!
I have an article here that I believe will go a long way toward explaining what is going on with your iBooks app:
iBooks: Tips for managing your iBooks library and storage on iOS devices
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5544
Specifically, I believe this will address your questions:
To free up storage on your device while keeping your library organization, tap Delete This Copy. The copy of the book on that iOS device will be removed, but the cover of the book will remain in your iBooks library with a cloud icon visible in the upper corner. To download the book again, just tap the book cover.
To remove a purchased book from your library on all of your devices, tap Delete From All Devices. The book will be removed from all of your iOS devices, and its cover will only appear in the Purchased Books collection with a cloud icon visible in the upper corner. If you change your mind, you can download the book again from your Purchased Books collection.
So if your books are not downloaded onto the device, they will still show up in your iBooks app with the "download from iCloud" icon in the upper right hand corner, but they will only appear in the Purchased Books section. You will want to download the books you want onto your device, then arrange them into the Collections you would like them to reside in. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • Safari stops loading webpages

I have 2 Macbooks on my network with identical settings and one works fine when surfing with Safari the other keeps stopping on webpages. I have reset permissions, emptied cache, all the things suggested. I found that Pinging to my Airport extreme shows 100% packet loss not all the time. By keep on pinging I have found it works now and again and then just drops the speed.... Anybody any Ideas?
    Cheers, Martin

The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 / )
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • Safari stops loading many pages: ../favicon.ico not found

Recently Safari doesn't complete the loading of many pages.
The status bar reads for example ... completed 34 of 35 items.
In some cases the page appears.
When I click a sub-topic on the page (i.e. in a forum) the link fails to load.
If I then click the stop/reload the selected link shows up, but fails to show the pictures (i.e. also incomplete)
In the activity window of Safari
http://www.......at/favicon.ico is listed as not found
    Could there be a connection??
With Firefox these pages open without a problem.
My MacBookPro loads them without a problem using Safari over the same network.
    I would appreciate your help.

    Hello Starman!
Good news: Thank-you for the quick reply
    Bad news: it didn't help.
I have tried most of the recommended tricks - trashing:
    com.apple.Safari.plist and
    com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
I have reinstalled Safari through the MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.8PPC.
I have tried both the Universal and the PPC version.
At the moment I am using the Universal 2.0.4 version.
There is no difference. The problems remain the same.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks,

  • Safari stops loading after opening my RSS feeds

When I want to open all my RSS feeds in Safari, it starts to load, but after about 1 to 2 min, all my pages stop loadind. The address bar is then "half blue" ...
In FF everything works fine, so network (airport) works fine.
Anybody out there who can help.
    Cheers,

    Powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If this is happening only when accessing the RSS feeds, go to your Home>Library>Syndication folder and move the database3 file to the desktop. Then restart Safari and try the feeds.
If Safari works as intended, it means the RSS database file was corrupted (a new one is created automatically on the Safari restart). In that case you'll need to reset for each feed any custom page sorting you may have set up. If no go, move the database file back to its original location.
Instead, go to the same Library>Preferences, moving the following two files to the desktop:
    com.apple.Syndication.plist
    com.apple.SyndicationAgent.plist
Then restart Safari and try the feeds.

  • Safari stops loading web pages

    Issue:
Type web address into address bar
    select enter
progress bar appears, but stops part way (estimate about 10%, judging how far the blue line moves)
after a period, the progress bar disappears and a white page is displayed
For pages that are already open, content stops refreshing
The issue is only temporarily resolved by restarting the machine.
The issue appeared today (22nd)  (upgraded to to 10.10 on 19th).
Network connection works as expected as do other browsers, FireFox, Chrome, Opera.
    Environment:
    OS X 10.10 (14A389)
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
    3 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel Iris 1536 MB

    Hi ..
Might be a cookies, cache, or extensions, issue.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
