Safari stops loading many pages: ../favicon.ico not found

Recently Safari doesn't complete the loading of many pages.
The status bar reads for example ... completed 34 of 35 items.
In some cases the page appears.
When I click a sub-topic on the page (i.e. in a forum) the link fails to load.
If I then click the stop/reload the selected link shows up, but fails to show the pictures (i.e. also incomplete)
In the activity window of Safari
http://www.......at/favicon.ico is listed as not found
Could there be a connection??
With Firefox these pages open without a problem.
My MacBookPro loads them without a problem using Safari over the same network.
I would appreciate your help.
Thanks,
TOM from Innsbruck

Hello Starman!
Good news: Thank-you for the quick reply
Bad news: it didn't help.
I have tried most of the recommended tricks - trashing:
com.apple.Safari.plist and
com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
I have reinstalled Safari through the MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.8PPC.
I have tried both the Universal and the PPC version.
At the moment I am using the Universal 2.0.4 version.
There is no difference. The problems remain the same.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks,
TOM from Innsbruck

  • Favicon.ico not found

I'm getting this info message in console logs.
"org.apache.sling.engine.impl.SlingRequestProcessorImpl service: Resource /comp-info/cs/favicon.ico not found"
In code having the link as <link rel="icon" href="../../../favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"/>. The favicon.ico image is present in the designs folder that is referred in href. Any help??
    Regards,
    Joshua

Can you try accessing the favicon.ico by typing the URL in the address bar of the browser, the reason I am asking you to do this is to isolate the issue. Few things to observe for:
    - when you access favicon.ico by typing the URL in browser, check are you getting the INFO message
    - if you are not getting the INFO message while you do above, it means it is from some other location URL is causing this INFO message?
    - check the access.log, check the URLs

  • Safari sometimes loads a page I did not type-in. Typing in google or yahoo ends up sending me to a different page.

Intermittently, when I try to load a page such as google or yahoo, Safari sends me to another website or tells me it cannot load google. The last time, I cleared all my history, cookies, etc. and it worked just fine and hasn't done it since, but I'm worried. Any thoughts?

    Hi all
I was able to fix this problem today by using a program called DSNchanger Removal Tool. It was suggested by someone at the usenet group :comp.sys.mac.system, that I do a search for this program at versiontracker.com. After downloading it, I used it to scan my hard drive and then remove a trojan horse.

  • Safari stops loading web pages

    Issue:
Type web address into address bar
    select enter
progress bar appears, but stops part way (estimate about 10%, judging how far the blue line moves)
after a period, the progress bar disappears and a white page is displayed
For pages that are already open, content stops refreshing
The issue is only temporarily resolved by restarting the machine.
The issue appeared today (22nd)  (upgraded to to 10.10 on 19th).
Network connection works as expected as do other browsers, FireFox, Chrome, Opera.
    Environment:
    OS X 10.10 (14A389)
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)
    3 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel Iris 1536 MB

    Hi ..
Might be a cookies, cache, or extensions, issue.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • After installing Firefox6 many sites will not finish loading. I click on "stop loading this page" and then click on "reload this page" and the page loads. Also if I disable javascript the page will load.

After installing Firefox 6 MANY web site will not finish loading. I disabled all add-ons and still have the problem. If I disable javascript, the pages will load. When the page is trying to load, if I hit "stop loading this page" and then hit "reload this page", the page will load; but sometimes I have to do this 2-3 times for the page to finish loading. No problem with these pages using IE8.

I see that you ave changed some network.http prefs.<br />
Doing that can cause all kinds of problems because not all servers like such changes, so you can try to reset those prefs on the about:config page.<br />

  • Safari stops loading after a few pages...

This is a revisit of a problem I've had for almost a year now...
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3181078#3181078
Open a couple of pages (fine) but from then on the progress blue bar makes it to the end of the http:// text and stops.
The browser is running and there's no sign of App not responding... leading to a force quit. It simply stops loading the pages.
This is even happening after installing Public Beta so I'm guessing it's deeper in the OS than any of teh files replaced or cleaned with this new install.
I like Safari, but not when there is a silly corruption/fault like this.
    Thanks
    Nigel.

I'm having a similar problem. Browser won't get past http not only with Safari but with Firefox as well. But with a few twists. My computer will actually crash on some pages running flash after a few minutes. Are you connecting to internet wirelessly?
I was at genius bar today and of course the computer seemed to be working ok, after crashing on me two or three times in the morning. But that was before I came up with the flash theory. They checked the crash log and saw an issue with airport. So they think it's an issue with my home router/modem unit. But I'm not so sure because my other computers, pc's, are doing ok. So I'm beginning to think it's an issue with the Airport card in the computer. I'm in process of trying to narrow it down now.
Could airport card be getting funky after being on for a few minutes? my computer is only a few weeks old.

  • Safari 5.1.1 won't load many pages

my safari 5.1.1 wont load many pages like chase.com and my blackboard site for sacred heart university.  these sites all work fine on firefox tho.. a little help!!

    Try disabling Resume...
How To Disable Lion's 'Resume' Feature - MacRumors.com
And empty the Safari cache more often. Command + Option + E or from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
You can also try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari
Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
If nothing above has helped, from the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Details then type   chase   in the search field on the right then click Remove All / Done then click Details again, do the same for the other site. That will delete cookies for you that may be preventing those pages from loading.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try those sites.

  • Safari cannot load web pages, but still communicates with the www

I am using Safari 6.0.5 as my main web browser. Unexpectedly, a week ago it stopped loading web pages, though apparently the program somewhat still communicates with the world outside, since I can enter any text in the address bar and get responses in real time from Google.
Other programs using the internet work regularly. I have already tried the usual set of solutions proposed in the official documents.
    Thanks in advance,
    Valerio

  • Safari stops loading website

I have one of the new 27" imacs, with the Apple airport router, Safari 6.05 and OS X 10.8.5.  As of the last upgrade , when clicking on websites or if I'm tryiing to open one of my favorite links, safari stops loading the website.  The only way to load any website is by me going to the address bar clicking on it and hitting enter, once I do this the site will load, this is not the only problem along with website if I'm watching a video half way through the video it will come to a complete stop and no matter how many times I hit the play button nothing happens. To get the video to run I have to hit the back button leave the webpage and  then go forward back to the video click the play where the video will completely load and Im able to finish watching the video.  It doesn't matter if its youtube, hulu or any other service I get the same results.   Does anyone have any suggestions how to resolve this problem.

Have you installed the supplemental update to 10.8.5?

  • Safari stopped loading after an update

safari stopped loading, so i tried to download safari disk image from the apple site but when i try to open it i get the error that disk image failed to mount because it was "not recognized" i tried opening as a test user but got the same error. So then i dragged the original safari application to the trash and tried it but got the same error again

That generally means a bad download, or a Disk corruption problem.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Help-Safari wont load any pages-others having same problem

Safari wont load any pages. Tried reinstalling Safari. Nothing. Zip. Notice that people on the Safari for Windows board are having the same problem.
WHAT IS GOING ON? Anyone know?
I get the menu bar, but not Bookmarks, etc. Cannot see a blank page. Cannot open a blank page, BUT my efforts (Untitled and Untitled 2) are reflected in the Dock. A right-click there shows that the pages are open, but obviously invisible.
I really need to fix this.
Firefox works. As do other apps.

    EDIT:
The last thing I did before this happened was open a .pps file I got in email. If I do what was suggested in the Safari for Win post where someone is having the same problem: empty the cache, everything becomes greyed out. Its as if everything becomes invisible.
If I click on a link in Apple Mail, the URL shows up in the dock right-click as if it has mounted, but it hasn't. No window. Nothing.

Do you actually have a data plan from your cellular provider?
Being connected to 3G does not automatically indicate that a data plan exists on the account or is even set up correctly on the carrier side.

  • "Reload current page/Stop loading current page" seems to be missing from Navigation Bar customization. How do I get it back?

I am loading Firefox on a new computer, and I can't find the Navigation Bar button for "Reload current page/Stop loading current page". Is there any way to get it back as a choice under Navigation Bar customization or to create a new function? CTRL-R used to work for this function, but I'd like to have the button on the Navigation Bar.

View Page Source has been moved to the "Web Developer" sub-menu. You can use any of the following to View Page Source:
    *CTRL+U
*Right-click a blank area of the page and choose "View Page Source"
*Firefox button > Web Developer > View Page Source
*Using the Menu Bar: Tools > Web Developer > Page Source
*ALT+T+W, release ALT key, letter O key

  • How can I make Firefox stop loading a page?

Let's say I fat-finger a url (e.g., Facebook..com), or I type "fac" into the address bar and either miss the down arrow or hit "enter" before the websites containing "fac" appear in the drop-down. I realize my error immediately, hit "ESC"... and rather than stopping, Firefox continues on to the error message ("Server not found: Firefox can't find the server at www.facebook..com") or the search results (First Acceptance Corporation, according to Google) until that page finishes loading. This wasn't an issue with older versions of Firefox--actually, it was one of the reasons I preferred Firefox to IE, since all versions of IE always behaved as I described above. Is there a reason newer versions of Firefox can't stop loading a page immediately upon my hitting "ESC" the way older versions did perfectly? More importantly, is there something I can do to get my forced upgrade of Firefox to replicate the good user interface of previous versions? It's not a huge issue, but it's irritating and seems like a step back.

You can also try to disable keyword and set the keyword.enabled pref to false on the <b>about:config</b> page.

  • How do I stop loading a page? This feature disappeared with a Firefox update.

There used to be a "stop loading this page" button in the toolbar. Somehow it's disappeared and I can't find any relevant help.

I got it now.  I looked at another Mac with an older version of iTunes to see what you were talking about.
I am not a power user of iTunes so I am curious about this. I assume you would hit Stop to stop the song (and the stop button then becomes a Play button) then click Play to start playing the first song in the new playlist? Now in iTunes 11 you hit Pause and then have to use the little Play button next to the playlist name to do the same thing? Or, as a single click action you can you just hit the little play button and it will stop the song and start playing the playlist.

  • Where's the button to stop loading a page?

Since upgrading to Firefox 4, I can't find the button (red X) to stop loading a page. It's not where the Help says it should be.

I see that now. I guess the page I'm having a problem with is already loaded as far as the browser is concerned. It's a Verizon page that's spinning its wheels trying to load my account info. Thanks.
