Safari Suddenly Won't Load

Booting up this morning, Safari never appeared. Spinning beach ball. Force Quit (Safari Not Responding).
It was working fine last night when I put the Mac to Sleep. Woke it up, rebooted - no Safari. It's 10.5.6 and no previous problems other than the usual crashing, disappearing, locking up around Java, etc. This is the first time it just ain't there.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Try using Onyx using the settings shown on this page:
http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/onyx_leopard.html
Onyx will clear out some system level caches and these appear to be the problem in your case.

When I go to start safari it won't load.   The address bar lights up about a 1\3rd of the way and then just sits there.  If I restart my computer it will work for a time but eventually refers back to the same behavior.   I have tried reseting safari, I have tried to empty cache without success.   Please help

    Hi..
Try here >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
One of the suggestions at that link is to try OpenDNS. It's very easy to setup.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
    Try Safari.
If that didn't help, all you have to do is go back to the DNS tab and delete the addresses.
If nothing above helped, from your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab. Deselect:  Enable plug-ins
Quit thren relaunch Safari. If that helped, you need to troubleshoot third party add ons >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • QuickTime suddenly won't load trailers embedded in webpages via safari

    Hi all,
Suddenly, QuickTime won't load trailers or movies embedded in webpages via safari. Can someone help?
    Thanks,
    Elissa

Vanessa, did you try the suggestions already mentioned in this thread?
Never post your email address in a public forum. Spam bots roam public forums looking for "spam victims".
If you insist on using your email address in a public forum & you want to "trick" the spam bots, then suggest that instead of using "@ "in the email address, use instead the actual word AT.
Regarding responding to your emal addy, we ask that you post all questions to the appropriate discussion forum. This allows other users and other helpers to have a chance to view and respond to your post. That way, everyone benefits from the exchange.
    Thank you

  • HT4314 mac 10.8.2 and safari 6.0.2 and pogo suddenly won't load?

I was having trouble playing pogo minigolf, so I updated to Mac 10.8.2. I installed new java, etc. I played for about a month or two and all has been good. Now all of a sudden, pogo games won't load. It says I need Java...but that's not it. Any suggestions?

It is because Java has another gaping hole. It was blocked. I think they have a patch, now.

  • Safari 6 won't load youtube

I have tried reset safari, open in 32 bit mode, but nothing works.
It's not the video won't load, but the site.
Nothing happens after I press enter.
I have tried other browsers, and youtube works just fine.
Any idea how to fix this.

  • Safari pages won't load since Mavericks upgrade

Installed Mavericks a few days ago on my iMac and some really annoying bugs have been introduced to Mail (7.3) and Safari (7.0.6). I can't automatically add multiple addresses to emails anymore using the space bar; I have to manually type out certain addresses, add commas, etc. Certain webpages, including youtube and google, won't load on Safari. Chat support had me repair permissions with disk utility, clear cookies and reset safari, but none worked. It was also suggested that I do an SMC reset, a PRAM reset, and a safe reboot. I haven't done any of these, basically because I'm nervous about introducing any more wonkiness that I can't undo. I've been reading about similar problems with Mavericks for months now (I only upgraded because I needed it for Final Cut) , but I never see any solutions. Can anyone help me???  Thanks.

Go step by step and test.
    1. Power cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
         It will take a   while.
         Restart the computer.
         Start up in Safe Mode

    2 Empty Caches
        1. Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
        2. Quit Safari if open.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" and then "Caches".
        Look for the folder 'com.apple.Safari"
Right click "com.apple.Safari" and select "Move to Trash"
        Relaunch Safari.
    3. Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.
        Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    4. Remove all third party addons, plugins and anti-virus software
        Run EtreCheck .
        https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6173
    5. Deselect Proxies if selected.
System Preference > Network > Advanced  > Proxies Tab
Under "Select Protocol", uncheck any box if selected.
       Click "OK" then  "Apply"
    Best.

  • Safari - Pages won't load

Hi. I hope someone can help me
There are two websites that my sister visits frequently on my eMac. She has never had problems before and now the pages won't load. We've tried other sites and aren't having any problems. I've also emptied the cache and reset Safari and it still won't work. We thought that there were problems with the website, but a friend loaded both pages just fine on a different machine.
    Can anyone help?

Have you tried using masking Safari as another browser to see if the pages the machine is visiting have been instructed not to show content if the browser is not one expected?
If you go to the Debug menu and select user agent, you can disguise Safari as another borwser. Also, from the Debug menu, you can use the Open page with menu to select the alternative browser you would like to use to open the pages.
Alternatively, you might contact the owners of the site(s). Also, you might go to the Safari menu and Report Bugs to Apple.

  • Favorite website suddenly won't load

Up until now, I've had no problems accessing one of my favorite sites. But just the other day, when I go there I get the message:
"Safari can’t open the page because the server where this page is located isn’t responding."
I've tried Safari, Opera, and Firefox, and the page just won't load. However, when I try it on my Mac at the office (a different computer in a different location) it loads just fine.
    Any ideas?

Apparently the way Snow Leopard deals with DNS queries has changed. In the Network settings in Systems Preference you can specify DNS hosts. If you have a home router, it also has a list of DNS entries (possibly set by your ISP). I can't find the Apple article about this, but it's discussed in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10134449
I think the problem is that Snow Leopard gives up finding an address too easily, and doesn't try all the DNS hosts you have listed.

  • Sub-par Safari (Pages won't load, 404 errors, and paritally loaded pages)

    Hey,
I just upgraded to OS X 10.4.5 (from 10.2.8) and it's a wonderful change of pace! I can't believe I waited this long! I have only one complaint...Safari is TERRIBLE. I have found that when it browses it only partially loads pages, never loads images, all adds "cannot be found - 404 error code (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), and then sometimes the desired pages have different apperances, or won't load at all (again a 404 error code). On a few occasions it has even opened the same page repetedly! I go to apple.com, and it loads. Then I go to zdnet.com, and it loads apple.com (though it displays Zdnet on the title bar and the web address!)
Can anyone help me out here. I'd love to us the RSS feeds...but with all these bugs I can't even get through a session of use without becoming completely frustrated.
    Thanks!

I've reset Safari and cleaned up cache using OnyX. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm thinking it may be a DNS issue. I cleared my DNS cache using OnyX and my problem went away. OnyX is a free utility and is very useful. You can get it here:

Ever since I did that, I haven't had any other issues. Good luck!

  • Safari Suddenly Won't Connect to the Facebook Site

This afternoon Safari suddenly stopped connecting to the Facebook website: I don't mean that I couldn't log in, I mean that I couldn't get to Facebook website at all. When I try to connect I get the message, "Safari can’t open the page “http://facebook.com/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again." Firefox, however, still connects without a problem.
Earlier I tried deleting cookies and then I was able to get to the Facebook website and log in. As soon as I try to do something, such as accept a gift from a Facebook game, however, it goes back to refusing to open the website.
I have the same problem on my AOL Desktop browser too, which shares a cache and cookies with Safari.
Can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks!

    Hi,
Make sure your system software is up to date. Click your Apple menu  then click Software Update. Facebook requires the latest version of Safari 5.0.4
And try resetting Safari. From your menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • A favorite program suddenly won't load and I get the following message: Error reading crossword file. Check/daily-crossword/puzzles/2011-06/dc1-2011.bin is up

The program was loading ok until a power outage 2 days ago. Since restarting the pc the crossword puzzle won't load and I get the message provided.

I've had this problem since June 1 and no reply was received from Thinks when I wrote to them about it. In my case, it applies to the crossword puzzle and also to the codebreaker.

  • Safari & Firefox: Won't load pages with images

Everything was working fine one night, and then the next, I couldn't load any pages with graphics. The one caveat: Google loads without a problem, even a Google image search. Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs. Thoughts?
I've seen similar posts, but none of them really apply, and the only one that did, didn't have an answer.

Every other site, including Apple.com, either won't load at all, or will begin to load until it encounters and image, and then hangs.
You're saying that, in addition to images not loading, pages are loading slowly or not at all, as well?
If this is the case, then the problem isn't isolated to images. It sounds more like a problem accessing web pages altogether.
As a troubleshooting measure, try setting fixed DNS addresses, either in your router's configuration or in System Preferences -> Network. For the latter, click on the network connection that you use, e.g. "Airport" or "Ethernet," then click on the Configure button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and enter a pair of fixed DNS addresses in the section with that label, as follows:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
You can copy and paste those directly from this forum into that DNS address field.
(Those are OpenDNS addresses, available for use by anyone. DNS addresses are the addresses of servers that tell your web browser where to look when you type a web page address in your web browser.)
If that doesn't work, the problem lies somewhere else. But your symptoms (slow or no page loads; and even when pages load, images not loading) sound a lot like the DNS problems I had before I started using alternate DNS addresses.

  • Twitter, 1-Click Weather Safari extensions won't load

I'm running Safari 6.0 on both an iMac and a MacBook Pro running 10.8.1 (Mountain Lion). The Twitter and 1-Click Weather Safari extensions won't work properly on either. For the Twitter extension, it just says "Trending..." and the rest of the bar is blank—no info about what is trending on Twitter ever appears. And the 1-Click Weather box on the navbar just contains a gray square. Any idea how to get these extensions working correctly? Thanks!

Uninstall both extensions then reinstall new.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions
There may be a software update included in a new install that's Mountain Lion compatible.

  • Safari 5 won't load on Windows 7

    Hi,
I've recently upgraded my Safari to Safari 5 and it does not load, just shows the spinning sign. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, placing of Apple Application Support files into Safari folder, but still no sign of improvement. Do advise, as I prefer to use Safari over other browsers.
My Laptop's specs is as follows:
    Windows 7 professional
    Service Pack 1
    64-bit OS
    ATI mobility radeon HD 530v
    Thanks.
    Cheers,
    Kai Lin

That's promising. If it's systemwide, then we won't be touching settings or pref files (they tend to produce user-account-specific problems), and so we won't be endangering any bookmarks.
I'm inclined to first try uninstalling and reinstalling both Apple Application Support and Safari, taking a few other explicit precautions along the way. For the technique, see the following post. (Although it's for a Safari 4.0.4 reinstall, the basic principle is the same ... you may get a few more error messages nowadays when restarting the PC after uninstalling Apple Application Support, though. Just click through those.)
