Safari suddenly won't work

I have used safari for years and never had a problem. Now, I click on the icon in the dock, it bounces a few times and get either nothing or a white screen. The toolbar appears to be there but nothing works. I have changed nothing.
Safari now works neither wirelessly nor when connected to the modem.

Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
Hi tynan,
Is there a reason you are staying at 10.3.5.
If not go to Apple > Downloads
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/index4.html
and select the right 10.3.9 Combo. I think it's this one.
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
That may fix your Safari problems.
Follow standard upgrading advice: Backup, repair permissions for and aft, disconnect all but monitor and keyboard, etc. Do a search in the forums on upgrade if "standard" doesn't do it for you.
Good Luck, JP

  • My iphone 4 'phone app' suddenly won't work

My iphone 4 'phone app' suddenly won't work. It's not a microphone or other hardware problem because I can use viber normally. I have already upgraded to iOs 6.1.2 from a 5.1 (when the problem started), and even after the restore it still won't work.

This is asked and answered multiple times daily.
If you've tried a restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new as recommended in the User Guide and this fails to solve your problem, then you have a hardware failure and will need to bring your phone into Apple for replacement.

  • RealPlayer Safari plugin won't work on Intel core duo iMac 20"

Real Player Safari plug in won't work on Intel coreduo iMac 20" to either listen to audi or to play video and I don't know whether it is a Safari issue, Rosetta issue, RealPlayer issue or all of the above. I am also concerned about asking Safari to run under Rosetta becasue this seems to defeat the point of getting the latest machine. Does anyone know what the problem is and the likely timescales for a fix? Thanks. John
PS. I am able to access the resources I want using stand alone RealPlayer and Firefox.

Hello, this happens because Power-PC-plugins usually can't cooperate with Intel-coded programs. I've experienced the same mess with the famous GraphicConverter and TWAIN plugins from Epson. Until Real will not offer Universal-coded plugins, you have to use the Rosetta-bridge with PPC program versions. In such case I generally prefer the FireFox browser.

  • ITunes search function suddenly won't work, pending iTunes upgrade.

I have an old (2002) 16-bit PC, which won't support an iTunes upgrade. I've tried to upgrade (from 7.1) before, but it crashed the machine (and I lost ALL my music), so I've stayed with 7.1 and until now everything -- including the iTunes store and the search function -- has worked just fine.  But suddenly, when I go to the iTunes store to buy new music, it presents an "Upgrade to iTunes 10" screen, and the search function won't work at all.  I'm locked out until I upgrade, but I can't upgrade.  Help?

Your QT may work fine but is it the most current v7.1.3? This is not to say that this will resolve your problem. You might try to d/l the 10.4.6 combo update and reinstall the upgrade to the system. That might resolve the problem.
I would wait until the new year and then upgrade to iLife07. No sense in buying 06 if 07 is around the corner.
You can downgrade to an earlier version of an app. To downgrade iTunes you would need to remove the receipt from HD>Library>Receipts>iTunesX.pkg. You will also need the .dmg of the version you want to reinstall. Old iTune versions are avalable at http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php
You can get old iPhoto at http://www.oldapps.com/iPhoto.php - instructions here http://www.oldapps.com/forum/showthread.php?p=545
To downgrade your OS you will need to reload the original OS from the system disks that you have then upgrade to the level that you want.
    As always b/u before proceeding.

  • Safari 5 won't work... at all...

I just upgraded to Safari 5 today, and the program won't connect at all.
It won't open any page, any URL at all.
I have wandered around the different topics, and everytime I'm trying to follow some instructions, it won't work. Most of the time, the files people are advising to delete are not to be found on my computer...
I wish I had stayed with the 4.0.5
    Can anyone help me ?

    Hi,
You may have third party Safari plugins that aren't compatible with Safari 5.
Go here: Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
You can revert to Safari 4.0.5.

  • Safari Suddenly Won't Connect to the Facebook Site

This afternoon Safari suddenly stopped connecting to the Facebook website: I don't mean that I couldn't log in, I mean that I couldn't get to Facebook website at all. When I try to connect I get the message, "Safari can’t open the page “http://facebook.com/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again." Firefox, however, still connects without a problem.
Earlier I tried deleting cookies and then I was able to get to the Facebook website and log in. As soon as I try to do something, such as accept a gift from a Facebook game, however, it goes back to refusing to open the website.
I have the same problem on my AOL Desktop browser too, which shares a cache and cookies with Safari.
Can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks!

    Hi,
Make sure your system software is up to date. Click your Apple menu  then click Software Update. Facebook requires the latest version of Safari 5.0.4
And try resetting Safari. From your menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • Brand new macbook air charger suddenly won't work

I bought a new macbook about four weeks ago. Everything is in great shape, inlcuding the charger. It suddenly didn't work yesterday. I've tried some of the troubleshooting stuff, nothing is working. Any ideas?

Failure to wake from sleep is not normal regardless of the Energy Saver settings.
The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • 3rd party apps suddenly won't work

This happened to me before but it was a long time ago and I don't remember what the fix was. Suddenly all my 3rd party apps refuse to run. They come up for a second then quit. I tried a hard reset but no luck. Anybody got any ideas. I'm still on OS 3.1

I installed an update for one of my apps from the app store and suddenly everything's working again.

  • Jbuilder suddenly won't work

    Hello,
After using Jbuilder X Foundation happily for several weeks it suddenly refused to work this afternoon. The problem seems to be that it can no longer open/display files. When launched from the command prompt, a number of NullPointerExeptions occur. These are in the form
    "Null pointerExeption at com.borland.primetime......"
I haven't listed the whole thing as I've already searched pretty hard on the www, and this string seems not to appear any where obvious. (or not obvious as it goes)
Initially I thought it was something silly that I did, and have tried pretty much everything I can think of. New install of both JBXF and the SDK from sun, even update install of Windows. But no, what to do?
If anyone here has experience of this or ideally a sollution, I'd be greatfull.
Yours kindly (with a classpath intact)
    Adam Green

    Nope, it's not having it...
Instead, I've switched to JBuilder 9 personal, and it's fine.

  • Ipod suddenly won't work with an FM transmitter

I have an iTrip that I used successfully plenty of times with my nano. I haven't used it in a year or so, but now when I plugged it into my ipod, the ipod says "FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided. Press Center to dismiss."
In the year or so that I didn't use the iTrip, my ipod froze and I had to reset it, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Anyone know why I'm getting that message now saying my iTrip won't work, when it did before? Thanks much!

If that doesn't work try this it just worked for me as i was having the same issue.
    1) Plug the Nano into the airplay and tune to the station
    2) When everything is set up, reset the Nano (hold down Menu and Select at the same time until it reboots)
    3) enjoy the music

  • Nano Suddenly Won't Work.

My iPod Nano (7th gen.) won't connect to iTunes anymore. I just started having this problem last week. A message pops up saying that an unrecognized iPod has been found. Please unplug it and plug back in. If it continues, to uninstall iTunes and reinstall. I did all that, and it still continued. So I searched on here for some other things and found to do something in my control panel. I tried that and it still won't work. I've added new music and like to use my iPod everywhere. The only way to listen to the newer music is by my laptop now. Also was wondering if it had anything to do with the Windows 8.1 update? Because it wasn't synced to my laptop since January. I tried last week (which was soon after my laptop had updated 8.1) and then it did this? Is it not supported or what? Please help!!!

You might need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service, as described in ituem #3 at the bottom of this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538.  If that doesn't resolve it, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923, then reinstall iTunes.  You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful.  Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

  • Since installing Snow Leopard safari autofill won't work

I have checked the safari autofill preferences and have the top box and bottom box checked (not the middle passwords).
This used to work well as soon as I would enter one letter in a form it would complete it.  Now I must type in everything even in websites I have visited often and recently.
I had the "word won't print or save as" problem but installing the new 1.1 security update fixed that but not this autofill problem.
    What can I do now?

Thanks for the link, but it still doesn't work for me.  It fills in some of the information but refuses to do postcodes & countries and telephone numbers are a bit random.  It still doesn't do email addresses on many sites - even sites I visit every day.  The only thing it gets correct consistently is the first line of my postal address.  I tried deleting the contact, creating a new one and making it me - but it still does exactly the same thing.
I finally gave up and ran Chrome.  Oh the joy of coming back to a site I visited only yesterday and have all the data I entered available at the click of a mouse;  instead of taking minutes to book airport parking it takes seconds!  It's like browsers used to be (and, incidentally, much faster than Safari and correctly renders all the sites I visit).   It's so frustrating that Apple can't make something work that other browsers have been doing for decades.

  • AirPrint suddenly won't work

Yesterday morning my HP110a stopped working with airprint. iPad and iPhone 4 with iOS 4.3, having worked fine before, suddenly cannot find the printer on the network. Using Safari, I can access the printer's webpage from the iPad and iPhone, my MacBook Pro finds the printer with Bonjour, ePrinting works fine - but AirPrint doggedly refuses to work.
I have been through all the troubleshooting points - checked network, checked all software / firmware is up to date, even updated iOS to 4.3.1 to no avail.
The need to print from the iPad is urgent - what can I do?

  • IBook suddenly won't work on battery

My iBook has suddenly stopped working on its battery.
Whilst switched off, the battery catch opened and the battery slipped out. I put it back and tightened the catch. From that point on, the computer has refused to start up unless the power adaptor is plugged in.
The battery indicator bar on the Desktop constantly displays the word "Calculating", but never comes up with a charge time. The battery itself is fully charged, as all the LEDs are lighting up when the battery charge button in depressed. If I take the power lead out when the computer is up and running, the computer shuts down instantly.
I have tried resetting the Power Management Unit, but it has made no difference.
Any help would be much appreciated to fix what has been up until now a flawless computer....
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   512 MB RAM (factory fitted)/Battery replaced under iBook battery replacement scheme

Hi, Dean. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I've been visiting Apple Discussions for over three years now, and every update brings a few people here to say, "The update hosed my battery." It's nearly always just a coincidence. The battery was probably ready to go.
According to the Washington Post, the typical lifespan of a lithium-ion battery is two to three years (whether it is used or not). Apple warranties the battery for one year.
The following comes from an old Apple Knowledge Base article regarding an X through the battery icon in PowerBooks. I've adapted it a bit to try it on an iBook. It probably won't help, but it shouldn't hurt to try:
In some cases, the battery has gone into a deep discharge state. This situation may arise if the battery has been left in the computer for an extended period of time without AC power. The battery can discharge to a point where it is no longer recognized by the PowerBook as evidenced by the red X through the battery icon in the menu bar.
To help prevent this situation, try these suggestions:
Recharge the battery when only one of the four green LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) on the battery is on, or shows one green LED blinking.
If the PowerBook is not going to be used for an extended period of time, fully charge the battery and then remove it from the PowerBook for storage.
If you have a battery that is not recognized in the menu bar while inserted, the following steps provide sufficient charge to the battery to restore normal operation.
    1. Insert the battery and leave it there for approximately 30 seconds.
    2. After 30 seconds, remove the battery.
    3. Leave the battery out for several seconds then reinsert it for another 30 second interval.
Depending on the charge level of the battery, you may need to reinsert the battery 10 to 12 times. If this corrects the problem so that the X no longer appears in the menu bar with the battery inserted, allow the battery to fully charge.
    Good luck.
