Safari "swipe" defeats log off of sites.

Is there a way to prevent Safari 6 from permitting a 2 finger right swipe from going back to a page within a logged out site? Even with "Private Browsing" enabled, I seem able to defeat my bank's logoff routines.  The "Back" list does honor the logoff, however.
From a security point of view, I would likely vote "no confidence" if there is no remedy to this "feature".

Hi
OK, just answered my own question. Check box in Reset Safari.
Safari continues to accumulate image files regardless of the Reset action.
If you are using High Speed Internet, you can stop the image and file accumulations as follows:
First, in Safari, open Safari Reset in the Safari Menu. Select "empty the cache", and "remove all web page preview images". Select "reset".
Next, go to the Finder. Command/3 to open in Column mode.
In Your User Account>Library>Caches>com.apple.safari folder:
Single-click on Web Page Preview folder, then Command/I to open the Info panel. Lock the folder.
Same with the cache.db file.
Also, in Caches >Metadata>Safari folder, move all the bookmarks files to the trash, then open the Info panel for the Bookmarks folder and lock it.
The result is no more accumulation in Caches, Web Previews incl cover flow and Top Sites. I've had these folders locked for over a week now with no adverse affect on Safari performance.
I haven't tried the above for History as I use it.

  • Can't get Safari to stay logged in to sites.

I want to make the Switch from Google Chrome to Safari, but this has proved impossible so far, because Safari will not stay logged in to a lote of sites.  It seems that various Internet forums are the worst offenders, but I've noticed it on occasion with my Gmail account and a few other things as well.
I've tried most of the obvious things: Deleting cache, cookies, and whatnot; turning on "always accept cookies," rather than the default about ignoring ones you don't manually visit, which shouldn't be necessary anyway; deleting some entries from Keychain Access; even deleting Safari's settings .plist file.  None of those have worked.  It almost seemed good again for a brief moment, but then I once again got stuck in an endless loop of logging in (i.e. navigate to forum page, goes back to login page, I log in, navigate to forum page, goes back to login page, repeat ad nauseam.)
I don't have this problem with any other browser I've used, and it's pretty much a deal breaker w/r/t using Safari as a default browser.  I've read quite a lot about this being a very common problem, but I couldn't find any great answers, not to mention that a lot of the stuff I found was years old.
    Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari Private Browsing Logs Me Off Sites

If I am logged into sites like gmail, facebook, bankofamerica, etc, and then turn on private browsing in Safari, I am logged off those sites and cannot log back in until I turn off private browsing. Is this supposed to happen? I would think that one of the main reasons to use private browsing is to cover your tracks when using these types of sites especially. Thanks,

With iOS 7 on the iPad, you turn Private  Browsing on and off by tapping the URL field.  The screen that  opens up has your bookmarks on it.  In the bottom left corner is a hot button marked 'PRIVATE'.  Tap on the word 'PRIVATE' to turn private browsing on or off.  Yeah, there aren't any instructions anywhere that I can find to do this, and if you follow Yahoo's instructions, they don't work.  This doesn't happen with the previous Apple OS, and you can restore your iPad to the older OS.

  • Why can I log into some sites or view them correctly in Safari

I have tried a few times to view the weather web site for one of my local stations, KOMO news. I can view this easily on my desktop computer, but a different version of the web page/site comes up on my IPod that does not have the same info, and there is no way of getting to the info I want to view (the 7-day forecast). What is this? And is there a way I can override what I'm seeing to view the web page I want to see?
Also, last night I tried logging into a few sites -- my web mail and utility bill pay -- with username and password, and instead of logging me in, the pages would keep "reverting" back to blank fields that I'd try again, and again (not even showing an error message, which is usually what I get if I enter wrong info.). It never worked, though it did work this morning from my desktop computer. Why won't Safari/Ipod let me log onto these sites?
    Regards, David

    Thanks for the advice everyone.
Working through them without much luck...
    New user didn't help.
    Have turned off MacScan.
    No improvement as yet.
P.S. Not sure how MacScan and Virus Barrier X would interact as they seem to do different things... I got both of these as apps in bundles so didnt really specifically buy them.
I can't see any proxy setting in network preferences so will need to go into virus barrier and check.
Reading the "recommended text" on Virus's for homework.
Tomorrow it will be Appzapper for them both if the patient shows no sign of improvement.

  • When I atempt to send a web site via an email from FF, the system keeps opening one new mozalla screen after another. Nothing will stop this but logging off. I have to bookmark everything and then put it in an email. Your help is appreciated.

If I attempt to send a link to someone from a site I am visiting, ff starts opening one new start window after another. So fast i can't get it stopped. Even going into taskmaster which I sometimes have to try 3 or 4 times, it is impossible to get them all stopped they just keep multiplying. Only logging off or a restart will fix the problem.
The same think happens if I use a "send picture to". I don't know what else to do. I have run all the diagnostics I have. Checked all the drives, etc. Check all the ff settings. Nothing shows.

  • Safari for Windows will not log into IIS sites with Windows Authentication

Safari for Windows will not log into IIS sites with Windows Authentication enabled. The IIS log has thousands of login attempts from Safari that result in 401 errors.
I disable Windows Authentication on IIS and it works fine. The problem with that is that my Windows clients stop working properly with seemless logins when I disable this.
The expected behavior is that Safari will work with basic authentication when NTLM does not work. That would result in a password prompt followed by a successful login instead of Safari stopping at "Loading" while hammering the IIS logs.
It does this on all machines that I have tried.
Any ideas or is this a bug?

I noticed that as well. I have to wonder if it's due to not making note of the the different end of line characters between Mac OS X and Windows in code.

You could install Tab Mix Plus, which offers a Duplicate Tab feature you could use after logging in: this should keep the login state intact while creating the new tab.

Terminate Firefox from the "Processes" tab of the Windows Task Manager not the "Applications" tab. Then select firefox.exc and use the right-click context menu to "End Process" or use the "End Process" button on the selected process.
Windows 7 keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" will go directly to the Windows Task Manager and reopen the last tab that you had open.

I don't see why you feel you have to exit Firefox to get out of one website to immediately use another website. Very impractical. Does this have anything to do with desktop icons or not using tabs?
Completely unrelated to your question or your reason. Your flash plug-in is out of date.
Check for Flash updates to see if you really are current

    After the download,
#bring up the download manager ("Ctrl+J") and start your installs. As soon as the install comes up,
#close Firefox with File > Exit or "Firefox" button > Exit. Give Firefox some time to close and check that it finished via the Windows Task Manager -- if it is still running then terminate it by selecting the use "End Process" button or from context menu.
    #proceed with the install

Safari froze and after I did a force log off the icon disappeared, does any know why?

I have been scouring everywhere for a solution to a similar problem where the audio would drop out for a second or two ever 5 or so seconds - regardless of whether we were streaming content or using an iPad and Air Play.
I tried changing the audio channels on the ATV as suggested elsewhere and here - no luck.
Played with the settings on the Air port Express - no luck.
We swapped the ATV to a different tv and it worked fine.
Then played with the audio settings on the SONY Bravia - no luck.
Swapped the audio out on the ATV to play through the Air Port Express and plugged in the some headphones.  NO AUDIO DROP OUTS!
My deduction - a problem with the HDMI cable.  Borrowed a friend's cable - wasn't going to spend another $50+ if the cable wasn't the problem.  And lo and behold the HDMI cable was the problem.
    Only took 3 hours.

I enter my  user name and password, even saved ones, hit enter it goes back to the log in screen. Even new registrations - it is across all password protected sites  - I had to log into this support community with Firefox.
Any one elso having this issue today?

I figured out my problem - I set the privacy settings to block all cookies. I reset it to block only third pary cookies and it is fine now.

  • Each time i logged on at safari it kick me off and each time i relaunch it it kicks me off again

each time i log on to safari it kicks me off,i tried to relaunch and it kicks me off again

A number of things could cause this.  Some things you might try:
Power down iPad completely and restart.
Delete Numbers from the iPad and redownload.
If you've been using iCloud to sync with a Mac, then on the Mac hold down the option key in Finder and Go Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers. Move the documents there to the Desktop (or another temporary location), give iCloud time to resync to all your devices, then move the documents back into the folder and let iCloud sync again.

  • Continually having to swipe my finger, how to delay log off

I have an X301 Vista 64. Every10 minutes I am automatically logged off and have to swipe my finger to gain access to my computer. Where is the setting to change this?  I have searched everywhere including the BIOS.
    Thanks,
    Greg
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum,
Are you actually logged off or is the computer just locked? If logged off that means the user is logged off and all applications are closed. If locked your account is still logged on and the applications are not closed even if you have to swipe the finger to unlock the computer.
If the computer is just locked i'm guessing it's the screensaver settings. Rightclick your desktop and select personalize, click on screensaver and uncheck "on resume display logon screen". Optionally you can increase the number of minutes until the computer is locked if you just think 10 minutes is too short.
    Did that fix the problem?

  • As of 3/30 when using the App for Facebook, when I log off of Facebook, it keeps me permanently logged into Facebook. If I use Safari to log into Facebook, I have no problem logging off. Is there a problem with the Facebook App??

As of 3/30/13, when logging off of Facebook using the Facebook App, it will not log me out. It is now permanently keeping me logged in. No problem logging off of Facebook when I do not use the App. Is there anyone that can tell me why this is happening and what I need to do to Logout of Facebook. I like using the App for Facebook but I also want to be able to log off, I do not like to stay logged in.  Is there something different with the latest Apple software I downloaded a couple of weeks ago, IOS 6.1.3?

it also could be something different, if you try google hangounts. change password and log out it still recieves notifications. its how apples handles the "channel" notification system for apps that recieve notifications or do backroung sync, and im sure at some point that security hole will be a hijack point.  i think its called XO auth. and is why it can maintain session even after an apperant logout
if you go to the app and it shows you have logged out but are still recieving notifications then that is evidence of the bug.
also look and find the option for "keep me logged in" i remember in the past that would allow a autologin after logout. also if the app does NOT save the logout status correctly in its "memory" the above refereced system will auto login you with the XO app authentication.
if there really is no keep me logged in option. then what crh24 said, they designed it delibertly to keep you logged in. though i never remember a problem on my ios 6,. are you on ios 7, bunny hop?
