Safari "time out" has been shortened... a fix?

Hi, Safari 3 seems to have shortened the length of time that it will wait for web pages, images, etc to load before it declares a "time out", compared to Safari 2. This was reported to be a problem in the beta phases, but the problem is certainly there in its current form on Mac OS 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4.
This is a problem for those of us on dial-up 56kbps connections, where webpages fail to load fully due to a whole host of "timed out" images, style sheets, etc, as reported in the Activity window. Safari 2 used to load pages just fine by just being a little more patient before giving up.
Is there a way of increasing the time out time for Safari 3? Obviously, getting a faster internet connection is not an option.

Yes, this is a pretty serious problem. It isn't just a problem with dial-up. I have a 384K DSL connection and see it all the time. It can also happen when loading from slow servers regardless of your Internet connection. I see it on pages with lots of image thumbnails coming from slow servers. I also see it when I load several pages at once (such as command-clicking on several links to open pages or full size images in separate tabs).
Under Safari 2.x, pages would load as best they could and either finish loading, or the images that failed to complete would still be partially visible. Under Safari 3.x, any image that doesn't load by a certain "time out" changes to a ? icon. Plus, in Safari 3.x, images that are partially loaded are displayed while trying to load, but then when it times out, the image is cleared and replaced with a ? icon. This is frustrating because often the image has loaded, but it's waiting for some "completion" flag to say the image was loaded, or maybe it's still loading a better quality version of the image, but the lower quality image is completely visible - until Safari 3.x erases it and replaces it with a ? icon.
Again, this isn't just a dial-up problem. It's a problem with loading any web page that takes too long - no matter what your connection. For example, this web site is a perfect example:
http://www.pixolator.com/zbc/featured2col.php
Another example are forum pages with lots of avatars and images in the messages. Because the images come from so many different sites, fast and slow, I often see only half the images. This link is a good example:
http://www.stickboyracing.com/stickforum/viewtopic.php?t=154&postdays=0&postorde r=asc&start=0
This is a pretty inexcusable error in Safari, and it has existed for over a year (ever since Safari 3.x was first released I believe). It has made Safari unusable for reading many forum pages, and accessing any web page with a large number of images or thumbnails.
The only solutions I've found are to use a different browser, or click on a link a couple times to reload the page without doing the equivalent of a "refresh" on the page so it loads images out of the cache the 2nd time I click on the link, and reloads those images that didn't work the first time.

    Hello
I have a VeriStand-Project (VSP) created with my Laptop-Host (LTH) which works with my PXI, while
deploying it from my LTH. Then I have installed the whole NI enviroment for PXI and VeriStand use on a
industrial PC (iPC). I have tried to deploy my VSP from the iPC to the PXI but the following error
    message arose on my iPC:

The software versions of the NI products (MAX/My System/Software) between my LTH and the iPC are
almost the same. The only differences are:
    1. LabView Run-Time 2009 SP1 (64-bit); is installed on LTH but missing on iPC. The iPC has a 32-bit system.
    2. LabView Run-Time 2012 f3; is installed on LTH but missing on iPC.
    3. NI-DAQmx ADE Support 9.3.5; something strage on the LTH, because normally I am using NI-DAQmx 9.5.5 and all other DAQmx products on my LTH are 9.5.5. That means NI-DAQmx Device Driver 9.5.5 and NI-DAQmx Configuration 9.5.5.. On the iPC side all three products are 9.5.5.. That means NI-DAQmx ADE Support 9.5.5, NI-DAQmx Device Driver 9.5.5 and NI-DAQmx Configuration 9.5.5..
    4. Traditional NI-DAQ 7.4.4; The iPC has this SW installed. On the LTH this SW is missing.
In order to fix this problem I have formatted my PXI and I have installed the following SW from the iPC:
    1. LabVIEW Real-Time 11.0.1
    2. NI-488.2 RT 3.0.0
    3. NI_CAN 2.7.3
Unfortunately the above stated problem still arose.
What can I do to fix this problem?
    I found a hint on http://www.labviewforum.de/Thread-XNET-CAN-die-ersten-Gehversuche.
There it is written to deploy the dbc file againt.
If this is a good hint, so how do I deploy a dbc file?
I would feel very pleased if somebody could help me! :-)
    Best regards
    Lukas Nowak

    Hi Lukas,
I think the problem is caused by differenet drivers for the CAN communication.
NI provides two driver for CAN: NI-CAN and NI-XNET.
NI-CAN is the outdated driver which is not longer used by new hardware. NI replaced the NI-CAN driver with NI-XNET some years ago, which supports CAN, LIN and the FLEXRAY communication protocol.
    You wrote:

    3. NI_CAN 2.7.3
NI CAN is the outdated driver. I think that you should try to install NI-XNET instead of NI-CAN on your PXI-System, to get rid of the error message.

  • Serious Malfunction with Curve 9220 since the time it has been bought

Had bought a blackberry curve 9220 in March 2013. Since the time it has been bought, there were network related issues.
In October, this phone got switched off by its own too. FInally after showng up at the service center they got this fixed.
Within a month, the trackpad started to deviate and stopped moving up and down.
Once this error was reported and shown at the service center, I was asked to pay 10000.
This is sheer malfunction and for no reason I have been asked to pay an amount which is more than the cost of the phone itself.
Can someone please reply to this and check into the issue.
    Thanks & Regards,

I have an old version of Firefox - Version 3.5.7.
I am trying to update to the current version. As part of the update, the system is first loading all of the intermediate versions.
I started the update 4 hours ago. It is still running. Most of the time, it has been downloading version 3.6.18. I am letting it run.
Is there any other way to get the most recent version?

Thank you. That is basically what I did. I gave up on the update and downloaded a fresh version of Firefox.

Sorry we are unclear as to the external hard drive and its connection to the TC..
For instance the light that blinks.. is that the TC or external hard disk or what.
Did you try just rebooting / restart the whole network in correct order.. modem.. router / TC.. external drive.. clients with 2min gap between each.
Are you actually running Snow Leopard as the profile states?
    How old is the TC?

  • Is it possible to disable "whats new" page that shows up every time Firefox has been updated

Any time Firefox has been updated, there is a "What's new" tab. Firefox updates too often for this page to be interesting. Now it's just plain annoying.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to stop that page from loading.
EDIT: Found this after posting. May or may not work.
The purpose of the page is to keep users informed. For example, do you know the reason(s) for the upgrades to versions 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 (also 3.6.21 and 3.6.22)? Many/most users do not.
Plus, one click to close the tab isn't too much effort, is it?

  • Safari times out when uploading. Is there a fix?

I'm a fan of the Safari webbrowser, BUT, for years it has pained me that it times out when uploading multiple images. I have scowered the internet in hopes to find a solution, but I find only third party plugins that don't look like they are from reliable sources.
Chrome and Firefox can sit there and upload for any period, but Safari just stopps after 10-20 images, sometimes less. It seems more time dependant than anything else.
I worked for tech support for a big company. We used to get loads of calls about this and we were instructed to tell people to use Chrome or Firefox.
Why has it been so many years without a native fix? Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a simple fix or a plugin from a reliable source?
    Many thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Carolyn,
Thanks for your reply. My upload speed is 0.85Mbps.
I'm sure this is not the issue however as it has been the same since I lived in Sweden with 100/100Mbps. When I worked at my old job with over 2 million customers uploading across Australia I would just have to advise all mac users to use another webbrowser because of this issue.
    Kind Regards,
    Tom

  • Can I shorten the time before Safari times out when it can't find a page?

My problem is due to dismal service from Comcast.  In spite of numerous help calls and replacements of wires, modems, router, etc, I continue to have a problem where requests for web pages come to a dead end.  It happens because a URL I request isn't resolved into an IP, so I get "web page not found".  I eventually do get the page, but only after the browser completely times-out and I try again.  This happens on all the digital devices in my house. If I try the page again before the browser kicks out an error message, the second try doesn't work.  This is a Comcast problem, not a Mac problem, however, I do notice than on the several PCs in the house, the browser times-out much more quickly than Safari on my Mac. Is there a setting on the Mac or on Safari that will tell it to "give up" more quickly?  All the browsers on my PC quit after about 30 seconds but on the Mac it takes a couple minutes.  Is this something I can set?

    https://store.opendns.com/get/basic/
Try it. It only takes a few minutes to set up.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How to recover safari history that has been cleared

    I have a 2012 iMac running Mavericks OSX 10.9.4 4GB 1333 MHZ
I frequent a social network site that hosts photos, private mail conversations and blog discussions.
I use an app " safari cache explorer" that will very quickly look at the cache files from the browser history and give me the option to view the line items as plain text, web page, or image. The plain text view is not really that readable so I would like any suggestion on how to convert that part to something more useful. The items that can be viewed as web pages are perfect and appear exactly as the did when I was on that webpage.
Here is my problem. If the clear history function has been used in safari that explorer app has nothing to look at and sometimes I need to go back and find a preveiously viewed webpage. I am using time machine to backup to a Seagate backup plus drive and I have read at least several online discussions as well as everything on this community board on how to recover to recover to recover those files. There have been several  highly detailed explinations on how to accomplish this task but not one has worked.
Is it possible to retrive the history.plist, cache plist or whatever is needed to see those web pages from a week or two ago in a manner that they are usable?
If so what are the exact instructions on doing this task. A procedure that actually works would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/History.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Enter Time Machine and restore the selected item from a snapshot that predates the unwanted changes. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Hi Siddharth,
As far as I know, there is no API for get the times of azure blob accessed. But you could custom this function on you side. When there has a request for your blob url, you could increase the number of your blob accessed times
and store this number into table. Also, you could submit a feature request on this page:
