Safari timing out

I've been attempting to download the OSX updates and the iphone updates, but i keep getting the following message "timed out (-1001). Then safari freezes, it doesn't let me do anything, if I quit out and go back in, it does not load any pages and says I am no longer connected to the internet.
The only way to get back on is to reset my airport extreme (using the airport utility and opening network preferences) several times, sometimes I have to reboot the machine several times as well.
Does anyone have the answer to this one please?

Well, Safari doesn't really time out; but the server will time out, which is undoutedly the reason for your problem, based on the error. It's possible that Software Update is experiencing problems due to a heavy load, so it should clear in time; just try it later tonight.
And don't use AirPort to connect for Software Update; WiFi is not nearly as consistent and reliable as an Ethernet connection.

  • Can't file taxes due to Safari Timing out my session

I am having problems with Safari saying that I have been inactive and ending my sessions. It has happened on a few different sites and with in minutes of even signing into my account. I checked the forums and found some topics that suggested checking the proxies and turning off extensions. I checked both of those things and that didn't help. Any more suggestions?

    Hi,
Could be a third party Safari plugin causing this. Follow the instructions here.

  • Yesterday my ipod touch 4g would connect and to wifi and i was able to go on safari and search etc. but last night at 11 pm it would say that it was connected to wifi but wouldn't connect to safari it would say request timed out

it would say request timed out so i restored my ipod erased and reset it hoping it would delete the problem but it was still there it says that it is connected to wifi but will not launch safari and will bring up that message request timed out. itunes app store anything that uses internet/wifi will not work. it is not in airplane mode and wifi is on. i also forgot to mention this but it would also sometimes say that it is not connected to the internet even though i have 3 bars of wifi.

The router itself will always be sending a signal to devices connected to it.  The router could not even be connected to your modem and it will still show that you have a connection on your device.  Check your router config, reset it, and if all fails, contact your internet service provider.

  • When using citrix through safari on my iPad , how do I keep it from timing out and having to keep logging back in when I don't use it for awhile?

When using citrix thru safari on my iPad , how do I keep from getting timed out and having to log in again after not using it for awhile ?

I know nothing about this app but I just did a very quick search on the app support forum for Citrix and saw something about enabling a setting called Caffiene. Have you tried that? It overrides the auto lock from what I saw in the discussion.
I'm just not sure why the iPad would sleep at all if it the Auto Lock is set to never. The only other things that I could think to try is to restart the iPad and then see if the Auto Lock setting works properly or maybe quit all apps and then try again. That really shouldn't matter but there might be an app that is overriding the auto lock for some reason. Or even reset the device - hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. The iPad system might just need a kick in the butt.
Edit - after rereading your post I see that you are going through Safari. The suggestion that I found was for the Citrix app. I assume the Caffiene setting is not available through Safari.

  • Cannot login to Facebook on my iPhone 5 iOS 8.1 - Connection timed out - Error signing in

The other day, I had logged out of Facebook on my iPhone, and when I tried logging back in, it wouldn't let me. When I try to log in through the settings page, it stays on verifying for a while and says "Error signing in" and tells me there is no internet connection and when I try logging in through the facebook app, it says "Connection timed out" and asks me to make sure i have an active internet connection. The fact is my internet is working, and I can log in to facebook through safari, but not my app.
And one more thing. I have tried most of the methods mentioned in the forums. I have spent the last 2 days trying all of them from trying to create a new account using the old details, remove the phone number from facebook and try again, hard reboot by pressing the home and power buttons, resetting network and privacy settings, and reinstalling the app about 3-4 times. None of these work.
I'd be grateful if somebody can help me out with this .

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network conect timed out

I am having trouble with iTunes,
Message: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network conection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active then try again."
Im not sure when exactlt this happend, it may have been after i downloaded an iTunes update, but I cant be sure. Other than that nothing else has really changed. I have now had this problem for a couple of weeks.
I am running windows Vista (32 bit System)on my HP Laptop and have ADSL and am able to run explorer and all other non-apple software.
I have tried all other advice offerd in the various supports:
    1. re-installed iTunes
    2. Checked all firewall settings - even removed Norton security (currently just operating on windows Visat security and have checked all that)
    3. changed "host" file to "back-host"
    4. played around and tested various internet settings
I hope this information helps to solve the problem. I have also recently found some other information which may be useful:
Although I do not use "safari" as an internet explorer, this does not work on my system either. I have re-installed this to see if it helps but am still unable to connect to the apple store (home page) on safari. I have looked up the support site for safari but have thus far be unable to find any helpful information to solve the problem.
Please help this is very frustrating...
    Many thanks in advance!

Help! When I try to purchase a song from iTunes and have agreed to the terms and conditions, it then tells me that my session has timed out... but I've only been trying for a few minutes. I can't buy songs if it keeps doing this! Does anyone know why it's doing this and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hi mterry1723, one solution that might be worth trying is this:
    - Close iTunes, if it's open
    - Open Safari and got to 'Preferences'
    - Select 'Security' on the top
    - Untick all the security options in the menu
    - Click the 'Show Cookies' button and look for all the 'apple' entries in the left-hand column.
    - Highlight them (select them collectively) and press 'Remove'
    - Now open iTunes and buy the song as usual.
    - You may be asked to do the same security process as before, so do as asked.
    - Hopefully, the security check will now have accepted your answers and start downloading the song as normal.
Remember to re-tick all the required security options you had just un-ticked in Safari preferences. You don't need to bother about opening the cookies again.
I hope this has worked for you and my profoundest apologies if it has not. Worth a go, though!

  • Itunes error: network connection timed out

Every time I try and log into my Itunes account I get an error message saying We could not complete your Itunes Store request. The network connection has timed out. How can I fix it?
Edit: My virus scanner is Avg and I use ad-aware 2007 for spyware. I can't find a feature with either one that would block i tunes. Also, it's an allowed application with windows firewall.

Ive been having this problem for over 24 hours now. Bad bit is that I had restored my iphone just before this so ive been stuck without a mobile phone since then.
    Symptoms:
Iphone appears in itunes but when the iphone tries to get onto the store to finish re-activation the connection hangs and then i get the error "we could not complete your itunes store request. the network connection timed out".
I can browse the itunes music store + podcast store and i can download podcasts.
    Safari is working perfectly.
Anything anyone can suggest would be a big help. I presume it it apple's server's fault.

  • Timed out

Safari 3, unlike Safari 2 and other browsers, stops loading any website after about 40 to 60 seconds.
Images are displayed as a question mark, text doesn't show.
Activity window gives the red "timed out" for the unloaded parts.
Only after reloading 2-3 times I get the whole thing.
It's a 64 kbs connection and unless a miracle happens, I'm stuck with it.
Is there any chance to convince Safari to cooperate, or will I have to change browser?

    Hi iLander,
Here's a list of basics I recommend when Safari slows down:
In your case I would' first do nr: 3
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
     HD/Users/Home/Your_Name/Library/Safari/Icons
    * Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
    3. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Also the power to support the modem. Let everything sit for 3 to 5 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
For slow opening, I'd recommend checking your Font Book application for duplicate fonts (the ones with the little bullets next to them). If you find any, select them one at a time, go up to the Edit menu, and click on "Resolve Duplicates.
Also, do you follow Sections A & B from Trav's Tips?
    Here
This are the easiest things to start with
    * Let us know if how every thing went ...

  • What does "network connection has timed out" mean??!!

What does "network connection has timed out" mean?

It means that the destination server is taking too long to respond. This can sometimes be resolved by closing safari and reopening it, turning off your modem, and then after 10secs turning it back on, or if you have and airport extreme/express, or Time Capsule, restarting those.
    Good Luck

If you see the white WiFi bars in the upper left corner, that simply means that the iPad has detected a WiFi network, and that does not mean that you are connected to the Internet.
Can you open web sites with Safari?

  • Timed Out using iPad

When using GoodReader App on the iPAd to access our Mac server from another location I get timed out, any suggestions?

    I would suggest....
    1. Going to Settings>Safari, and then deleting cookies and data
    2. Then going to your home screen. Double click the home button, a shelf should appear at the bottom of the screen. - Hold your finger on the first app on the bottom shelf until it starts to shake. Once they are shaking, tap the Red circle with the white minus sign in it in the upper left corner of each app on the shelf until they are all closed. Note - this will NOT delete the apps, only close those running in the background.
    3. Restart the device (hold sleep/wake button until you see a red "slide to power off" slider. Power down iPad. Then when screen is black, turn back on normally.
    4. Try again.
    5. If issue persists, if you have a cellular model, you'll probably want to try using cellular data instead of wifi to connect, turn Wifi to OFF in settings>wifi, then try again.
    6. After this go back to settings>wifi and turn it back on
    7. If using cellular didnt work, try again, now that wifi has been turned off then back on.
    8. if still doesnt work, reset network settings, (will need to reenter you wifi passcode if you do this). You can reset these by going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings. This will restart your iPad so dont be alarmed.
    8. Try again.

  • Anyone else getting a timed out error message when trying to check for updates via the app store software on a desktop?

anyone else getting a timed out error message when trying to check for updates via the app store software on a desktop?

Hi, couple of things to try...

Post subject: NSURLErrorDomain error -1100 in OS X 10.8
If you check for software updates using the App Store in OS X 10.8 and get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" the problem may be with your Software Update preferences. This is particularly likely if you were using a custom Apple Software Update server. To solve the problem, quit the App Store, move the following two files (if present) to the trash, restart, and only then rerun App Store updates:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.lockfile

I was recently trying to upgrade to mountain lion through the app store.  I have unreliable Internet from a cable company whom I will not name, but we all know who they are.  My Internet dropped while downloading the upgrade.  Once I went through the notorious unplug the modem/router and plugged it back in to gain Internet connectivity again, I could not resume. No matter what I did, the app store kept displaying "an error occurred." I am hoping that those with the same issue read this first to save them hours of skimming through the Internet to find a solution.  Here are the steps to take:
    1. Make sure you have reestablished Internet connection
    2. Chances are you got frustrated when you tried to resume/unpause the download and clicked the "X" to the left.  If so, select the "Store" drop-down menu from the App Store and select "View My Account." There should be an option to unhide your purchase.  You know what to do.
    3. There is also an option to  reset all warnings for buying and downloading under "View My Account." Do this, click "Done," sign out of the App Store and quit the App Store.
    4. Open the Preferences in safari and select Privacy.  Select "Remove All Website Data."  Just do it.
    5. Launch the app store and sign in.
    6. Now, if you "Check for Unfinished Downloads" everything works peachy.
I hope this helps.  Not much I can do for your Internet connection though.
