Safari to remember passwords?

New with Tiger. How do you get Safari to remember your passwords to
my bank account, etc?
I don't get the checkmark for remembering passwords, and I have to enter my password every time.
running a new intel power mac

Thanks,
But is there any way to lock keychain from someone else sitting down at your computer without having to lock the screen.
All they would have to do is sit down and access key chain, and all your passwords are at a menus notice.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but all they would have to do is double click on keychain, and all your passwords show up.

  • Is there a way that safari can remember passwords?  I'm pretty uncool so I will need real simple instructions, please

I can't seem to get safari to remember passwords.  I'm not too cool so I need some pretty basic help.  Thanks

From your Safari menu bar (top of your screen) click Safari then from the drop down menu click Preferences.
    Select the Autofill tab.
Make sure User names and passwords is selected.
If you are having problems with specific sites where Safari won't "remember" a password, open the Keychain Access app.
    That's located in /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left. Type in the name of the website where Safari isn't storing the password then right or control click that keychain then click Delete.
Go back to Safari, go to the website, login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. Click Yes.
Also, your profile indicates you are running v10.5.7. If that is correct, you need to update your system software including Safari.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click:  Software Update...
Restart your Mac after the updates are installed.

  • Safari not remembering passwords.

I recently reinstalled Safari. Now that I have reinstalled it, it is not remembering my passwords. I have had to enter my password every time I login to, for example, MySpace. Before, it would have my password already entered and all I would have to do would be to press login.
I have gone to Preferences > Autofill and made sure that it was supposed to be remembering passwords.
    Help!

Go to Edit then click Preferences than go to AutoFill and then make sure you check were it says User names & Passwords.

  • IS THERE A UTILITY AVAILABLE FOR SAFARI TO REMEMBER PASSWORDS?

I am a member of a number of I'net sites etc that use "User Names" and "Passwords" to gain access.
I have "ROBOFORM" on my PC and absolutely love the program....it automatically detects when a new User Name/Password site is first opened and prompts you to allow it to remember the UN and PW for the next time you go to that site...then it automatically fills in the UN and PW and opens the web page for you! It is almost flawless and reliable.
I can't find anything comparable to this functionality for the SAFARI Browser on my iPhone 3G in the iPhone App Store or anywhere else.
There are a couple of programs available, but they require extra steps and are no where near the equal of ROBOFORM.
Does anyone have any solution for this...maybe I missed seeing a workable app at the App Store?
Or, I might just have to wait until some independent programmer, recognizing the need for such a program (especially taking into account the difficulty, when navigating around the sites on the small iPhone screen, looking for and then expanding the fields for the UN and PW in entering those items) and comes up with one that will hopefully then be made available on the App Store.

  • Ipad4 iOS 8 Safari not remembering passwords. Chrome is ok.

    HI
after the the upgrade to iOS 8 my iPad 4 Safari no longer remembers passwords and settings for webpages.
I have checked the settings for cookies and they are ok. Also Chrome works fine.
I reinstalled the iOS but no change.
I Checked for which cookies is saved in the controlpanel settings for Safari, at there appears to be lots of them, so apparently it just doesn't look at them afterwards.
    any ideas?

    Hi,
Too late to reply you :-(.
Yes, install the Chrome browser and access the PDF link. Our users are not happy with the Chrome idea because they were used to Safari all along. To be frank Chrome browser is performing well these days. We are evaluating and trying to implement HTML5 based solution from Mozilla PDF.js. It is a waste of time and resource due to this small silly, frustrating issue.
No idea when does this get resolved because there are no other solid solution that runs PDF within the browser. More over, IOS Safari does not allows to configure or install other PDF reader plugins to run as part of the browser otherwise alternatives like Adobe reader could be used.

  • Suddenly Safari not remembering passwords

Suddenly, it seems have to enter passwords for lots of sites which did not have to before? any idea why this is?

    Hi Kevin,
From other unrelated posts (eg problems with spell checker), and now this, there seems to be a deterioration in OS X functionality and stability in your computer system. Sometimes, these things start to cascade, affecting other unrelated aspects of the OS.
From previous posts, I know you have been reluctant to reinstall the OS (I very much understand that feeling of "reluctance" having gone through it myself), however, this situation may be another indicator of having to go down that road.

  • How do I force Safari to remember site logins/passwords?

    Hi.
I'm using a new Mini running Mountain Lion and Safari 6.0.5. I installed the computer fresh, rather than migrating from my old computer (2007 Mini), as I was dragging a lot of dead weight in settings, preferences, and cache. Safari DID acquire my bookmarks from the cloud on first use.
I am frustrated that some of my registered websites/passwords have not been saved; they are not listed in the preferences. Is there any way to force Safari to store the sites? Is it possible to migrate ONLY those settings from my old computer?

Just in case there any outdated keychains ..
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the sites you want Safari to remember passwords for then delete the current keychain for each one.
Back to Safari. Navigate to a site you deleted the old keychain for.
Login with your username and password. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
To make sure Safari syncs Bookmarks with iCloud, open System Preferences > iCloud
    Make sure Safari is selected.

  • Safari's abysmal ability to remember passwords

For a long time now I've had a lot of trouble getting Safari to remember passwords for some websites.
I've resorted to saving some passwords manually to the Keychain and then looking them up and pasting them manually when I need them.
Yahoo.com and Apple's own Wiki Server are two prime examples. It's a real pain because my parents, for instance, don't end up logging into Flickr.com to see new photos because they forget their Yahoo password (yes, same problem, different computer).
Firefox has no problem remembering passwords for these websites so there's no technical excuse why Safari shouldn't either.
Is there anything I can do to fix this once and for all (besides switching to Firefox)?

Spinning beachballs, unable to connect messages, white pages, and failure to remember me issues are what convinced me to abandon Safari last week
So, what has this got to do with remembering Passwords? That was the original thread, but you seem to want to just vent your anger at Safari, because you are one of the miniscule percent of users with any issue.
I believe that, like me and so many others, when you fork over good money for a superior product you shouldn't have to add additional software programs and products to make it work. If I wanted to do that I would have bought a regular PC, of which microsoft makes and comes with hundreds of additional programs to make it work. But we expect that when dealing with that product, not when you buy an apple.
And that comment barely warrants an answer. I forgot that Mac comes with no programs and Microsoft give you all your word processing, compression/expansion programs, etc. for free when you install. Wish I had such generous Microsoft/Windows sale stores here. If you want top of the range software to add to your Mac, then you pay the developers for it. Que Sera sera.
Now either perform some Safari maintenance or start your own thread to solve your problems rather than Thread jumping and piggy-backing off the OP's original topic about Passwords.
    Cheers

  • How to get safari to remember login and password after I said do not remember

I went to a website through Safari and logged in and accidentally hit Never remember for this site and now I cannot get safari to remember the login and password. I have gone through preferences/passwords and the site is not listed and it will not allow me to add a site.  I would love help with this since I log on to this site just about every day! Any suggestions?

It might be a corrupted keychain ...
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Open Keychain Access then select Passwords on the left.
Right or control click a keychain then click Delete.
Back to Safari. Login to the website you want the password autofilled.
Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
Keep in mind, not all websites espcially financial institutions allow the autofill feature.

  • How can I get Safari to remember my ID and password for a site?

How can I get Safari to remember my ID and password for a site?
Specifically, I would like it to remember my 14 digit library account on:  http://polaris.plano.gov/Polaris/logon.aspx
Firefox on my old PC was able to do this no problem.  I have recently switched over to Apple.  Thanks for your help!
FYI, I am on a new Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4.

Some websites request the web browser to NOT autofill the username, password.  It is possible the library site is doing that. Your previous firefox on the PC may have been sufficiently old to not be able to handle such a request.  There are password managers you can get to over-ride such things (search Safari extensions).

  • Does Safari store passwords if the 'Remember password' box is unchecked?

For security reasons, I want to know if when I enter my hotmail password in Safari, and do NOT check the 'Remember password' box, whether Safari still stores this password in its Form Values file or elsewhere.
I've searched online for days and can't find an answer; hope someone here can shed light!
    Thanks

Two ways to store a password.
    Keychain or a cookie.
The "remember me" is a cookie and you can search and delete it if needed.
The Keychain is under the control of that user account and is password protected.
Both methods should protect your data as long as you have some type of "log on" when starting your computer. If your Mac has only one account and you've set it up to automatically log in then other (very smart) people could view the cookie file. But most of them scramble sensitive data and even a smart user would find it difficult to find.
Tiger's version of Safari also include a "Private Browsing" feature (under the Safari menu).

  • Remembering passwords for HTTP 403 pages in Safari

    Hi,
I've turned on autofill for names and passwords in settings; however, it only appears to save passwords that are entered in forms (i.e. the web designers used the form html element) - it does not appear to remember passwords when an HTTP 403 is given (i.e. Safari shows a native popup asking for a username and password). Is there any way to make Safari do this on the iPad?

I have the same issue on an iPad I purchased 2 days ago. I didn't realize it was an HTTP 403 issue. I'm disappointed no one has answered this, I'll start a new topic.

  • Why am I now getting messages about Safari remembering passwords for sites I log in on?

Why am I now getting messages about Safari remembering passwords on sites I log in on??  This has not happened in the recent past.  Dale

    Safari 6
You can disable that feature if you want.
    Safari > Preferences > AutoFill
    AutoFill web forms
Uncheck the box for "User names and passwords".

  • How do I change the settings to remember my login and password if I accidentally clicked not to remember password?

I know that when Autofill is on and you login to a website for the first time a message will pop up that asks if you would like for Safari to remember your passwoard, but what if you accidentally click "no" or "not now" and would like it to remember the password later? Can that be changed? I know how to remove saved passwords, but not how to save ones that have been dismissed.

iDevices can only be synced via iCloud or to a supported application on the computer via iTunes, but not both.  Turn off syncing via iCloud to enable the option in iTunes on the computer.

  • Safari and saved passwords

    hi
i was wondering if any faced this same problem whereby Safari just doesn't remember the passwords anymore?
under safari > preferences > autofill > i have everything checked, incl users name and passwords
however, when i navigate to a website with a username/email and password to be entered, the email/username autofills, but NOT the password.
(i have been to this site, entered the password, and saved before)
however, when i type in the same password, safari says, "this password is different ... would you like to save"
of cos i do instead of "not now" or "never" but it just happenss time and time again
i have tried to "remove all" usernames and password from preferences > autofill but it didnt help
please help... its irritating me and firefox now seeems a SMARTER alternative.

Thanks, but private browsing isn't enabled. At first I thought it was a .mac sync issue, but creating a clean account on the laptop (not really a PowerBook as I said, in the first post, but a new MBP), had essentially the same problem. Saved passwords wouldn't stick. This isn't an issue on my iMac running Leopard 10.5.1.
I've tinkered a little further, and I can delete the entries from the keychain and copy in a new entry from a clean keychain imported from the iMac (using file copy, instead of .mac sync). That will load and retain the passwords properly, but then I discover new wrinkle to this problem. Safari can no longer keep track of passwords for multiple usernames for the site. My wife and I have different usernames for webmail sites. It won't retain separate passwords for each username.
No third party extensions/hacks. Again, this was a pristine system. Several people seem to have similar problems, so I'm hoping Apple's working on it.
