Safari - Too Many redirects error

This error is quite specific to any FarmVille links within Safari. I have raised the issue with Zynga, but I have since realised that this issue has occurred since upgrading to iOS 4.3.1. and Zynga aren't currently reporting any known issues like this. Anyone else having a similar problem? If I click/touch and FarmVille links within Safari I get the following error "Cannot open page. Safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred."
I have yet to test on Safari on my iMac to see if the issue is specific to the iPad.

You can avoid re directs using Open DNS.
Tap Settings / Wi Fi then select DHCP.
Where you see:  DNS
Type in these numbers exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Restart your iPad. Open DNS is free, adds security and includes anti phishing filters.
The information at this link is for DNS for a computer but the information should help.
Topic : Manually provided DNS server addresses are higher priority than DHCP's

Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. • "Safari cannot open the page – 'too many redirects'"

    Problem
iPad issue impacting our secure website clients. Error message reads “Safari cannot open the page – ‘too many redirects’”
    History:
Recently, some of our secure website clients using Mac/Safari 4.0.5 faced issues, all related to one common problem that went away with Safari 5.0 & Mac OS updates. On all the three occasions, we observed that the error occurred when the HTTPS redirects contained the port number in the URL. During our discussions with Applecare personnel (case number was 350144) we understood that there have been problems with Safari 4.0.5 "not being able to handle port numbers in the URL properly". The issue went away with the launch of Safari 5 and Mac OS updates which followed the browser release.
Understandably, the resolution to the issue was fairly opaque and if I were to hazard a guess on what the problem could have been it should probably be something to do with Safari not being able to read cookies after these redirects.
    Questions
    1) Have any of you encountered such a problem on Mac/Safari 4.0.5 and are now facing on iPad?
    2) Any workarounds / solutions / learning that you have come across and can share
    Thanks!!

    Hi and welcome...
On a Mac. HTTPS redirects can be the result of proxies. Open System Preferences / Network. Click: Advanced tab then click: Proxies
If any of the boxes on the left under: *Select a protocol to configure* are selected, deselect, click OK.
Here's just one example of the HTTPS / Proxy issue: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12255869&#12255869
For Safari - iPad. Tap Settings / Wi Fi / Select your network by tapping the blue arrow. Configure network settings there.

  • TS3320 "too many redirect occurred" error message on iPad using a bookmark

I get the error message "too many redirect occurred" when using a bookmark to connect to a site. Safari is disabled in settings. This worked fine for about 5 months. Recently it stopped working. Now the site will only open going straight through Safari. (The error still appears using the book mark with Safari enabled). Cookies are enabled and are cleared off.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
    Thanks

Because its an issue with the site programming.  It can be due to some cookie or cache on your iPad, but its the actual website that tells the iPad to redirect.
Imagine if you go the store with a coupon you clipped off of a newspaper. when you get to the door, you show the coupon and the guy at the door says you need to use the other door because the coupon says so.   So you walk to the other door, and the guy at that door tells you nope, for that type of product you need to go to the original door.  So you go back and the cycle repeats.
Eventually you give up and leave, same thing happens with the iPad after so many tries going back and forth between pages or if sent to enough different pages it will just give up since it just can't access anything as it keeps being sent elsewhere.
If its due to Cookies or corrupted cache you can go into Settings->Safari and clear Cookies and history to see if that fixes it.
Otherwise its usually some type of loop being generated by untested conditions in the web page coding, and only the Website owners / programmers can fix it.
Most often its caused by a website sending you to the mobile version of the site, and the mobile version detecting an iPad sends you back to the desktop version of the site, and the cycle repeats there.

  • Safari won't open my gmail because of "too many redirects".  I was in my gmail account and was forwarding an e-mail at the time I was "kicked out" of my gmail and then saw the screen about too many "redirects".

I was in my gmail and forwarding a message when I was "kicked out" because the screen stated that there had been "too many redirects".  I am technically deficient and don't know what that means.  I tried to reset Safari but that did not correct the problem.  How would I fix this to be able to access gmail?  Thank you.

Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data:
Click “Remove All Website Data” button.

  • How do I solve problem that safari cannot open because of too many redirects?

How do I fix problem that safari can't open because of too many redirects?

Try clearing the browser cache and delete any cookies for that site. If that doesn't resolve it, then that's a problem with the web-site itself, so unless it is your own website, you can't fix it.
Often it's a bug in the website code that detects what device/browser you are using and it gets stuck in a re-direct loop. You could contact the website developers and inform them.

Further to my earlier post, I have just read an entry noting that if you already own a domain name, and ask your hosting service to forward and mask your iWeb '08 created, web.mac.com site to your personal domain, chances are that due to the masking of the site on web.mac.com, Safari browsers interpret the masking as being the end of the site, and as such, just return a blank page?
This may explain the problem. However, call me old fashioned, and possibly a little naive, but surely this cannot be the problem?? It's OK in Firefox!

  • Safari in iPhone - too many redirects

Hi, hope this is the right place to post this. My problem is when I use my iPhone 4 on some web sites I get a message 'cannot open page safari cannot open the page because too many redirects occurred' but when I use my iPad it works fine, what is going on?

    Hi Mr.ps...
On your iPhone tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings.
See if reverting to default helps.
If not, this is the Safari for Mac forum. Post in the iPhone forum here.
You can avoid re directs on your iPhone and iPad both. Tap Settings / WI FI. Tap the blue circle to the right of your network name. Tap DNS.
Type in these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
