Safari toolbar disappeared

I mistakenly removed the toolbar for safari and cannot figure out how to get it back.  Any suggestions?

Please disregard.  I found the answer in another post.  Had to use customize toolbar and hold the control key and mouse on the +.  View show toolbar did not work

Why does the Safari tool bar disappear when the cursor is not pointed to it?
How can I fix it ,Please.

It sounds like Safari is displaying in 'full-screen'. To reveal the tool bar move the mouse pointer to the top right-hand corner of the screen. You should see two blue arrows, click on those and it should take it out of full-screen mode and leave the menu bar, tool bar, etc. permanently on view.

  • Safari toolbar vanished

iMac 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 running Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4
On Friday 5/16/13 while searching for a method to get rid of advertisements for Google Chrome and Google Plus and the Google black toolbar, Safari was hijacked by YP.com, the  AT&T Yellow Pages"service". When I succeeded finally in getting rid of this uninvited inerlopeer, my Safari toolbar disappeared, too. Now I have no Back Button and no Search Field. On the Menu Bar, "Show Toolbar" does not work, and "Customize Toolbar" is greyed-out. I have to invoke File/New Window to perform, a search or query.
I reinstalled with the Safari6.0.4Lion.pkg, ran the huge OSXUpdCombo10.8.3 file, and rerpaired permissions -- all to no avail.
    FireFox runs fine.
How can I restore Safari's functionality?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • My bookmarklets keep disappearing in Safari toolbar

The bookmarklets / bookmarks I've placed in my Safari toolbar area keep disappearing. I have no idea why. Any thoughts out there?

    HI Christine...
Might be corrupted Safari preferences (.plist)
    Quit Safari.
Click the Finder icon in your Dock. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this this exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    Then click Go.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Desktop
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the com.apple.Safari.plist file to the Trash. If not, just move it back to the Preferences folder.

Select Customize Toolbar from the View menu, select the item and drag into the toolbar. Place where you want it to be.

Cannot locate Safari toolbar - it disappeared.  My seach has said to find the View but it is not on my toolbar.  I am using windows 7.

  • Safari toolbar not remembering custom settings.

    Anyone else seeing this bug?
Whenever I customize the Safari toolbar (mainly to remove the bookmark button from the address bar) Safari will reload the default toolbar (but with Evernote clipper and 1Password and Delicious buttons) after a quit and re-open.
It happens on both my iMac and Macbook.

    Hi
A corrupt preference file seems to be at the root of the "disappearing icons". On both machines, via the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This resets Safari preferences to default values. Restore any custom settings in either the Preference panel, Edit (spelling), or View Menu. Also, restore any custom icons.
Also, the reset adds Apple default bookmarks to your Bookmarks collection (command/option/B keys). Delete any you don't want.

  • HT203353 Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program?

Why do Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program? They are all from the Apple extensions pages.  I started manually adding extensions because the Add This bar disappeared when I clicked the extensions off button and I couldn't find it to get it back. I liked Add This because it added an extra bar below the url box with the extensions in color. I tried to add the Pocket extension to Add This with a supposed installer from the web site but it disappeared when I clicked on it and didn't add it. Now when I add extensions from the Apple Safari extensions pages there are just little grey images on buttons beside the url box. I quit Safari at night and the next morning when I start the program the extensions are gone. They were all enabled which appears to be the default. Also want to know if Add This is no longer supported.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
    Quit and relaunch Safari.

  • Apple Mail and Safari Toolbar (deleting icons)

How come I cannot delete options (icons) from my Apple Mail toolbar or Safari toolbar? It states in the Mac Help area that you are supposed to drag the icons you want to delete and they will disappear. That isn't the case. The icons seem to be locked. I can add icons to the toolbar but I cannot delete them.

Minor correction...you actually need to control+click on the toolbar to reveal the contextual menu. Option+click will do nothing.
You can also just click on "View" in the menu bar and "Customize Toolbar". Once the customize toolbar sheet appears, you can drag icons into and out of the toolbar.

  • Download Icon on Toolbar disappeared

The download icon (not folder) on the safari toolbar (next to reader) disappeared. This happened after completing a software update through App Store.
I tried to reinsert it by using the "customize toolbar" option, but it disappeared from there too. How can I bring back?

It is no longer there in this version.  I have no idea why, but that is the case.

  • Safari Toolbar -issue revisited

    Hello guys
Ive checked on solutions to an issue Im facing (a common occurence/unawareness) on this forum before reposting this issue. Please assist if you can/will.
I recently installed 'readability' app on my mac which added 3 icons on the toolbar. I now wish to uninstall it from my system and Im having difficulties removing the 3 icons on the toolbar. I've attempted to remove them by using the 'customize toolbar' option by dragging each of the 3 icons from the upper portion of the toolbar outwards but nothing gets changed/deleted.
I have no clue how to proceed. Any help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

Ok -I've resolved this issue. Apologies for crying SOS. For anyone facing similar issue going forward hope the solution makes sense.
1.) To remove any unwanted icon on safari's toolbar, click on View and then Customize Toolbar.
2.) To remove the icon that is currently on the toolbar and you no longer want -drag it from the "actual Safari Toolbar" outwards anywhere and it would simply 'disappear' upon release of the mouse.
3.) This dragging and disappearing only works once "Customize Toolbar" option has been selected.
4.) To add, you simply select the icon and add it to the "actual toolbar" and it should add it on (a green add sign would show up on the toolbar as you are about to add it).
Hope these instructions make it easier for everyone else.

My safari menu bar is missing.  The menu bar for desktop, HD, and apps appears, but when I click on Safari, it disappears, so I can no longer see my buttons for History, etc.  I think my husband (pc user) clicked it away when borrowing my computer.  Any ideas how to retrieve it?  Thanks.

I too was having the same problem However, I could access both the menu bar and the dock by hovering my mouse over them so it wasn't a huge problem but I prefered having it there anyway. I was not in full screen mode and I could still go into full screen mode if I wanted to.  I found the easiest solution was to just quit safai and restart it, but it might not work for you considering you couldn't access you menu bar either way.
I found this article that allows you to hide/show the menu bar and the dock through TextEdit (didn't work for me) http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/07/hide-the-menubar-or-dock-in-specific-app s.html It is pretty old so it might not work for lion and a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing so I wouldn't really recommend doing it this way.
And KSheppard, I know it's not really any of my buisness, but the way to get answers to a question isn't by insulting others and being quick-tempered. Even if you feel like you were insulted first, don't try snapping at people who aren't obligated to help you. Honestly, it just makes everything easier if everybody is cooperative and polite.

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!
I hope this helps, because it was incredibly frustrating. Good luck!
