Safari tries to open video files with script editor!
Help! I can't find a way to change Safari from opening video files online, such as short animations, with script editor. SE can't open the files, so they just can't be viewed since preferences has no place for me to change this weird default. Any ideas?

Both of these the computer tried to open with Script Editor.

QuickTime version 10.3 will "convert" older legacy codecs into a more modern version. You can save this newer version and delete the older one.
This can only mean that support for those codecs will be removed completely some time in the future. -
Finder can't open video files with VLC?
Hi,
Having recently got OSX Mavericks, trying to open videos from Finder I get an error message saying "The application can't be found" referring to VLC or any other video playing program I try to use. Despite the newest VLC version being re-downloaded and in my Applications folder, this happens with all video formats across all programs. If I go through VLC and open the file from there it plays without a problem. The preview from pressing space isn't working on videos either but does work on doc, pdf, ppt files etc. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.tomspeller wrote:

Yeah, so? You didn't seem to grasp what I posted before. It doesn't matter if the file should be able to be played by the Finder. It may say it is an AVI (which I don't think QuickTime plays natively), but that doesn't mean a program that normally can play an AVI can play that one. The video content could have been encoded with the double-monkey franken-codec which you do not have installed on your Mac. You wouldn't be able to play it unless you used a program that had that codec installed with the program.
Perian (not being developed anymore) can help QuickTime play some codecs. Flip4Mac (the free version) can enable QuickTime to play a lot of Windows video/audio.
If you were previously able to play those files in QuickTime, did you have any QuickTime helpers (like Perian) installed? Also, the new Quicktime X doesn't handle a lot of the older stuff which Quicktime 7 may be able to. If you had the Pro version, Quicktime Player 7 should still be in the Applications/Utilities folder.
You keep saying it plays in VLC. Great, tell the Finder to open the files with VLC then. Whatever is set to currently open it doesn't have the codec to decode the content. -
Can someone please tell me how I can convert video files with an extension of IDI_DVD to a file itunes and imovie can read? Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, The files are on a DVD disk. I coverted my family VHS tapes to digital dvds using an HP Media Centre PC five or more years ago cant remember the program but if I get info on the disk ,on the Mac it tells me the extension is IDI_DVD.

Os5 must have changed playback functionality of video files, it tries to play .wmv files, but crashes...it shows "loading", but nothing happens. Before update it would prompt me to choose an app to show the file, Azule worked great, but now it doesn't offer to chose an app.
How do I fix this?Indeed you were right. I though that in single mode all services were not started, but apparently I was mistaken.
However, as I feared, there seemingly is no useful info in it.

Opening video files with Quicktime X
I upgraded to Snow Leopard with Quicktime X. When I first did that, most video files I clicked on still opened with my old version of Quicktime (7?) rather than Quicktime X. So, I deleted my old version of Quicktime, thinking that would force Quicktime X to open the files. Wrong. Now when I click on a video file, nothing happens. I can open the file using Quicktime X, but I have to open Quicktime X first, then find the file I want to open in the Finder. Surely I should be able to simply click on the file first and have Quicktime X open it, no? (E.g., if I click on a video in iPhoto, nothing happens. But if I open QT X first, I can then use QT X to open the same file and play the video.) Help?
That should work. Also, just to add. I would not necessarily delete quicktime 7 especially if you had upgraded to pro. If you did then you may note that Snow leopard installer moved 7 to utilities. I have found that QT7 can sometimes play movies when QT X can't - it has to do with the fact that QT 7 and QT 10 don't have identical sets of codecs (at least that what those guys in the know tell me). So if you still have access to it keep it you can then use it if the later QT version can't play something. It won't interfere with anything you just have to designate if you want a particular file or type of file to be always opened by QT 7 as opposed to QT X which is the default app

Error when trying to open Mac file with Captivate 6 Win
I've tried opening Captivate 6 files (.cptx/.cptl) that were created on the Mac version with Captivate 6 on Win7. Got the error message "can't open file" telling me to check the file and my resources. Resources are ok, the file was sent via email.
How can I set up a workflow for Captivate 6 between Mac and PC users that works? The discussion to Win files crashing Captivate Mac didn't help as there's no solution posted. Are there any issues concerning the compatibility of Mac and Win files within Captivate 6?
Any help is very much appreciated a we've got a deadline looming.

I am trying to open .xlsx file in script task of SSIS 2005. I am using the 32-bit AccessDatabaseEngine driver with the Connection string as "Provider= Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0; Data Source=xlsx file path; Extended Properties="Excel 12.0 Xml;
HDR=YES"" in script task.
When we debug the VB script in Visual Studio 2005 and encounters the statement app.open() it throws the error "Couldn't find installable ISAM".
My SQL server version is 2005 SP2 DE
OS is Windows server 2003 EE SP2
Could anyone please let me know what is the resolution for this error?

First, make sure the package runs in 32-bit runtime mode (set Run64BitRuntime property to False) because you are using the 32-bit ACE OLE DB Provider. If it is not the case, the issue may occur due to the corrupted drivers or registry keys. You can try to
reinstall the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components as Arthur suggested.

1. Shutdown the computer and then start it up again, see if Safari repeats the problem.
2. Consider the source file, if it is just one or the same ones all the time but other open, the files are the problem and not Safari.
3. Run a permissions repair on the mac. Do this via Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and select the hard drive (Second Icon with the Hard Drive Name, not the one showing the drive size above it) in the left pane and in the bottom middle click on permissions repair, don'yt worry you won't break the computer. -
Keep getting error code 2048 when trying to open wmv files, says realplayer cannot open with the installed version of Quicktime, any suggestions?
wmv is a Windows Media format. I don't know why Realplayer is coming into it since that deals primarily with Real format files and maybe a few generic formats.

After installation a new Flip4Mac pane will appear in System Preferences. Make sure you set the boxes to ensure that it will play WMV files in Quicktime.
or play the files with VLC
VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ - general media player that plays just about anything.
While you're at it you might install:
Perian codecs for Quicktime - http://www.perian.org - plugins to add functionality to Quicktime for playing additional audio and video formats
Quicktime audio problems, Perian, VLC - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9013669 - read note about uninstalling prior DIVX support before installing Perian.
Perian doen't do WMV but it's handy to get many things to play in Quicktime.
Note, if these are protected WMV, nothing on a Mac will play those (unless you also have Windows installed). -

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :

I subscribe to an Earthlink package of telephone and ISP through DSL in Dallas, Texas.
