Safari trouble after software update
After a "software update" my safari is no longer working. I don't know how to uninstall or re-install it. I also don't know how to install a new web browser without a current web browser? If this makes any sense to you please help me : (
Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Create a user profile that accurately reflects your version of OS X, or include that information in your first message.
Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.

Magic Mouse Troubles After Software Update
I am having trouble with my magic mouse after a software update. I am using Lion (I think) 10.7.5. My trouble is that when I shut down my Mac, my magic mouse doesn't work until after I log in. I can't click on the user with the magic mouse; it simply doesn't work until after I log in. So I have to plug in my corded mouse and click on the user, type in my password, and then the magic mouse works again. This has only become a problem since I cannot type in a username and the users are now buttons/icons on the screen. Are there any fixes to this, or just have to deal with it? Okay, I did just notice I can use the arrow keys on my keyboard to go between users. Still, this is not an automatic thought that comes in my head when I see buttons/icons to click on. I want to automatically use the mouse. So if there are any other fixes beyond keyboard arrows, I would appreciate input. Thank you!!!
For those a little less into do it yourself I just found Mouse Wizard:
http://www.samuco.net/web/node/23
I will say that when I downloaded the demo the center button didn't work, but a very quick & courteous reply from their tech support suggested:
In terminal, can you try entering this command: "rm ~/Library/Preferences/.MagicalWizard.plist". Then, relaunch MouseWizard.
I did this & now I have center button nirvana! (Mouse Wizard also supports a version of the squeeze button (they call it fourth button) and squeeze/bloat gestures.)
So far so good--it's made me much happier with my magic mouse. -
I have a computer which I am running Mac OS 10.3.9. I recently ran the Software Update which included:
-Java Update for Mac OS X v 10.3.9
-Security Updates 2005-005 through 008
-Java Security Update
-Safari Update
-iTunes Phone Driver
-Quicktime
The computer was working normally prior to running these updates. After I let it restart, it seemed to be starting up normally, but when it got to the desktop, none of the icons of the files I had saved there showed up, including the harddrive icon. It seems to be stuck in some sort of loop, the menu bar at the top keeps 'reloading'. If I try to launch an application from the dock, it starts to launch but then I get the window that says "the application unexpectedly quit, do you want to file a report?"
I have tried restarting the computer several times and even left it unplugged overnite, but the same thing keeps happening. I was able to open the Preferences and it is still looking to my harddrive as the startup disk and the background on the desktop is the one we customized long ago, so it seems to be a software type issue, and the harddrive doesn't seem to have failed. But I am not too technically savvy, so I could use any help to try to resolve this issue.
Does anyone have any ideas?Restart the machine with the Command and S keys held down, and type the following commands into the prompt in order:
mount -uw /
cd /Users/username/Library/
mv Preferences/ OldPrefs/
exit
When done, your computer should start up and log in normally. Replace username with the short name of your normal user account; if you've moved your home folder, change the path to point to the home folder's location. The command sequence needs to be entered exactly as specified, including spacing and capitalization. After doing this, some of your account's preferences will be reset to the defaults.

Safari Crashes after Software Update, Java Update
Dear Support:
I've recently updated to Lion 10.7.3, had it for a few weeks with few problems. I had 6 software updates to install, including a Java update, so I installed. I allowed the laptop to restart and left the room. When I came back a few minutes later, Safari had quit unexpectedly upon repoen. It now won't even bring up a header menu, crashing on start with the following error / binaries report -

You need to move the Safari app back to the Applications folder. It's on your user desktop. Do this before updating your software.
Version:
5.1.4 (6534.54.16
Now update your software.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
That should bring Safari up to 5.1.5.
Restart your Mac aftter the update is installed.

Safari crashes after software update
I have just performed a systems update on my MacBook OS X 10.5.8 and now I cannot access Safari. When I click on the icon the top bar appears but no windows. When I try to access a window from my history a small darker blank window appears and then safari crashes.
I have tried to download a new version but this is appears to be the same.HI,
Please post a crash log so we can find out what's causing Safari to crash. Open a Finder window. From the Menu Bar click Go / Go to Folder. Copy/paste this path into the Finder dialog: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter
Click Go. The Finder will open containing the crash log. Copy and paste the most recent log here.

N78 - N-GAGE 1.40.1557 trouble after software upda...
Everything worked fine with my N78, except minor RealPlayer issues, but after software update 12.046 to 13.056 N-Gage application won't launch games, won't uninstall old n-gage ones, won't install new n-gage trials. The phone's application manager still uninstalls other games (not n-gage) but with everything n-gage related it says "removing failed". The purchased games via GPRS/CSD/WAP Vodafone portal run normally like before. Whenever I launch N-Gage and try to run a game it tells me I need to update it or asks me to uninstall a n-gage game but fails the uninstall with "error -2". I downloaded a n-gage trial game via GPRS/CSD/WAP Vodafone but it failed to install with message "file corrupted" - that never happened before. These "error -2", "error -1" and "error -5" keep popping up with everything n-gage related. Everything else works fine as ever. I did two backups of my personal data after emptying the memory card (music and videos) and checked all backup boxes on Ovi Suite 1.0 and 1.1 on my desktop and laptop machines (one computer has internet, the other doesn't). Then after the software update errors I restored one backup with Ovi Suite 1.1. As it failed to correct n-gage problem I re-updated the software to 13.056 with no luck of change. What should I do to bring back n-gage? Thank you.
Solved!
Go to Solution.I had enough of Symbian S60 3.2 application manager's faulty behaviour (did not install neither uninstall packages) and decided to try the famous last resort code *#7370#, suggested by user samposuv at Antony Pranata's Forum Nokia Blog (http://blogs.forum.nokia.com/index.php?op=ViewArticle&blogId=34687&articleId=93). It worked nicely as it cleansed the phone to the core. As I had previously backed everything up, it was easy to restore all the purchased items at Vodafone portal. Installed n-gage 1.40.1557 once more, as it had been the root of all trouble, as well as the latest version of NetQin free antivirus. The minor RealPlayer issues still persist but they are manageable (I have to wait about 15 seconds before the 2nd read of a video file in order to watch the pictures or else only audio is heard - happens sometimes, not all the times). In the end only have to account the loss of a n-gage file, acquired by a give-away code by Nokia Publishing, so "no biggy". The Speed Dial was just "off" (oops!). Sorry for mistaking 13.052 for 13.056 - mAbAd! PeeaCe!

Problem restarting after software update
Computer is fine, drive 40% full, no speed problems...
But it just won't restart after software update runs, nor will it restart or shut down from finder.
Problem solving so far: Safe boot, reset pram, ran disk utility, ran disk repair using install disk, ran fsck -y, ran disk warrior.
Is annoying. ANy ideas anyone? If not, what is the procedure for updating using sudate and terminal, as when I use software update, a force shut down will not install.
ANy ideas folks? Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
• /Library/InputManagers
• ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later). -

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Hi. Good day to everyone my New iPad with retina display 30 pin connector will not mirror to TV even with divi adapter after software update. Adapter works fine. Or is it a software glitch with IOS 7.04? I've tried resetting and reconnecting nothing seems to work.
That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it... -
iPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines.
I found a video on youtube with similar issues - http://youtu.be/Xuuqxx18-bA
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN TRIED: Restore, Reboot, Recycle, Replacing Cables, etc....
I don't have Apple Care, what to do? Spend more money and buy a new phone? Here is another person who has a problem with the iPhone 5 screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc1ZPWSA8dc and they have just received them NEW!!!!!
I myself, two days ago purchased a 2nd hand iPhone 5 that was advertised as having a line of squares at the bottom of the screen. I Googled it and found people saying it was a screen issue and to replace the screen, so I did this and it is still happening with a new screen.
I am starting to dislike Apple intensely after reading forum posts and watching videos where people are asking for help and telling us about issues that they are having with their phones.
Why is Apple getting it so wrong with their updates and manufacturing that they are completely destroying iPhones that cost a lot of money and then expecting the owner to purchase another phone unless they are still in warranty.
Apple you should be going out of your way to put things right for people but instead there is a wall of silence over so many of the issues destroying peoples phones.

Hello!
I am having internal camera failure after software updates...first skype couldn't find the camera, and now photo booth also says camera is not connected. Its a brand new MacBook Pro which has been working fine for a month, but after a software update (the blinking message said i had 13 new things to update...you know what I'm talking about right?) all of a sudden Skype couldnt find a camera, so i went to the skype community and tried some things (like trashing skype) but now photo booth says no camera detected, which is weird cause the camera is built into the computer..
Please help!

Hi, i had updated my curve 9320 with new software as recommended by blackberry desktop software. After the update i am facing many issues after software update:
1. whenever I am trying to make a call or opening any message my phone power suddenly goes OFF and not starting till I pullback the battery and re-inserted.
2. Some time automatically its battery got heated up and there is discharge of battery, but when i pull back and re-inserted battery it becomes normal.
3. Email setup is not working, I am not able to add any email account. whenever I am clicking on email setup there is no reaction.
please suggest what to do. I tried to go back to download old software but I am not able to get it anywhere online.
regards
iftekharHey iftekhar,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
I would suggest backing up doing a clean reload of the BlackBerry® device software as shown here: http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11320. Please test before restoring any data to the device.
If this resolves the issue do a selective restore of essential data (Address Book, Calendar, Task, Memos, BBM contacts etc.)
How to use BlackBerry® Desktop Software to restore data to a BlackBerry® smartphone from a backup file

If the issue still persists after the reload, further investigation might be required. To help further diagnose the cause, contact your wireless service provider or BlackBerry® Technical Support Services for further review and support.
Thank you.
