Safari Troubles

So hey
Having some troubles with Safari lately. I think I downloaded something and it all got wrong and now I cannot fix it.
So the thing is: Homepage became some random site only-search.com, which is also somehow become a main search site.
And there is advertisement coming out all around all the time.
Also, when i try to proceed to another site from my gmail for example amazon and etc it says that block pop-up windows program works, and that I need to switch it off.
the whole thing that I did go to the 'preferences' of Safari, and made everything right, but it clearly don't react on that.
and when i'm at any site and press on something to article or smith like that, it opens to only that thing, but there's new tab with advertisement like mackeeper or whatever.
don't know what to do.
Help! Please!
thanks a lot for reading at least

1. Use  the free AdwareMedic by clicking “Download ” from here

Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
Once adware is removed, quit the app by clicking AdwareMedic in the menubar

Safari
2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off one by one and relaunch Safari again to test.

  • Safari trouble after reinstalling OS X

    Hello people,
    thanks for looking.
I have just reinstalled OS X on my ibook g4- I was having trouble with my cd drive and this has now been resolved, but when I went to open safari to post a response on the ibook discussion page I couldn't get a safari window to open. I still have safari in applications, and I've tried going to an email and clicking on a web site link that would normally open a safari window, but nothing happens.
    Any ideas...?
thanks in advance, this is a great source for non technical folk like me,
    all the best,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
For most intent and purposes, FireFox functions just about the same as Safari. There are always pros and cons to using different browsers, and despite much heated debate in the past, there is yet a clear consensus on which browser's the superior. At the end of the day, it really boils down what strikes your fancy and what works for you.
The reason why Safari might not be behaving after the archive & install could be down to plugins installed prior to the reinstallation, which now fail to work with the out-dated version of Safari you're using. Or it could simply require trashing of a few property lists (plist).

  • Safari trouble with Flash Websites

Hi, I am having trouble using a particular
Flash website online that I am developing
Using Safari v. 2.0 on a Mac running Tiger 10.4.2
I am able to access the homepage of this site
    http://www.sweetybomb.com
but I am unable to load any of the buttons (about - music - etc.)
I understand that this may be a Macromedia Flash issue, but
the odd thing is that this site works fine in all other Browsers
    (Opera, Explorer, etc.)
Every once in awhile, the site works (I can load content, use buttons)
but 99% of the time, Safari stalls on the homepage which is odd
because the file sizes of the Flash movies are low (at least in the opening part)
Anyhow, just seeing if there are some Apple/Safari things that
I could troubleshoot on that end of things
    Thank you

I have talked with Apple several times
via my Apple Care and they insist it's
something on the Flash end of things
Thanks for your response and if you
have any advice I would be happy to
    hear it
    cheers

  • Safari trouble login and bookmarks, question placing .apps in diff. folders

Hi, I am having a little bit of trouble with safari I need some help.
I downloaded opera to try out a different web browser... all was well.. Then I tried going back to safari, safari was still and still is my default browers. Anyway, I tried loging into myspace.com, to be exact, and it just sent me to the login page again. I tried login on opera, it worked.
I went to a friends mac and tried login on safari, it worked there. Yet on my mac it still does not work.
So, I deleted my cache, and reset safari, tried again still did not work. Maybe I should restart my computer?
I can get in on opera but that does not make sense.
Also, I noticed my bookmarks are missing, maybe this is after the cache thing. I don't know I am kind of new to macs. But, I did notice that the bookmarks that I had, including the pre-installed mac ones are listed under Safari bookmarks, in opera.app. Is Opera taking over my safari?
Also, this is kind of different. But I have quite a bit of apps on my computer, and I decided to list them into different files under applications. for example opera and safari are under application/internet apps... Could this affect performace, and does everything HAVE TO BE under plain applications, I would not think so, I mean some big programs automatically make a file.
Anyway, help with safari would be awesome! Anyway to reload it or something
    Thanks!

Yes, you can reinstall. Directions may be found on this earlier thread. The only change to the instructions will be running the 10.4.7 combo update.
As with all reinstalls, it's a good practice to make a backup of your system beforehand, mitigating any unforeseen problems during the installation.
Post back and let me know how it worked out.

  • Mail & Safari Troubles

    Hi all
i started my macbook today and it was relatively slow to start. When i fired up safari i was asked for a keychain password (a request i have never seen before). as far as i know i don't have a keychain password so i pressed cancel. again the same password window popped up so i tried my mail login password to no avail, so i pressed cancel to see the password window close and not return.
i then started up Mail to be presented with the Mail setup window, so i cancelled and rertried. i was again presented with the Mail setup window,so i went through the process of setting up my email account. after setting up i sent an email to my college email account and logged in to the college server and found the email i had sent. i then sent an email from my college account to my home account (the email account i had sent from my macbook) but so far i haven't recieved it. if i check my email through my service provider web site the email from my college account to my home account is shown but is not getting through to my macbook.
as far as safari is concerned every 10 mins or so the keychain password window pops up but pressing cancel on the 1st window presents the same window a 2nd time then cancel the second window get rid of it for approx 10mins then the keychain password window appears again. also all bookmarks and history has vanished from safari.
there are other problems, the primary use of my macbook is mobile audio recording using pro tools for that purpose. the pro tools icon sat in the dock but has now vanished from there. pro tools is still on my macbook but is no longer represented in the dock.
The macbook in question is no more than 6 weeks old and email and internet accounts have been setup and fully operational since i bought it 6 weeks ago.
    all help greatly appreciated

  • Safari Trouble

    Hi,
I am fairly new to the website design world. I just created a website for a college class . I got the site to look great in Internet Explorer and FireFox but for some reason I am having a problem with Safari.
I am a mac user so I really want my site to run good in Safari. The problem lies with the navigation menu. As I said it looks good in other browsers but in Safari it appears to be longer than the rest of my page. I have tried to change everything I can thing of to get it to fit within the page. I tried specifying the #nav width, I tried changing it to auto. Before I added the scroll over drop down menu, it was fine. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?
Side note: When I magnify the page in safari I can eventually get the navigation to fit within the page...
    Take a look. http://www.calihanchiropractic.com/
I am using CS3 & CS4. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this to fit within my page?
    Thanks!
    Aubrie

I'm sorry to be blunt, but it doesn't look good in Firefox.  In Safari your menu is being stretched, but in Firefox the Make An Appointment option is being wrapped down.
You have 3 validation errors in your code.  Line 67, 97 and 108, the align attribute does not exist for those elements.
You also have invalid CSS code at the beginning of that document with style2, style6 and style8.  All CSS declarations need to have attribute:value; .  In your case the values are not valid.  12 is not a valid font-size.  When you declare font-sizes you need to have a unit of measure following them whether it is pt, px, em, etc.  Same thing goes for a:hover on your other CSS document.  A color needs to start with a "#" in front, otherwise the browsers will ignore the color.
To fix your div issue I would probably say to remove the outer margin.  You already have padding within the cells, so it was like having double padding on the sides.  Otherwise you will need to reduce the font-size for that area to make it work, unless you create a fixed or percentage-based width for the menu options thus forcing text to wrap within those containers.

  • Safari trouble with one particular site

I have a problem with safari when I use one particular website (www.itsagoal.com)
I've noticed that it is the website in particular that may be at fault. The website is www.itsagoal.com and what happens is that the built in clock for that website goes mentally fast. Although I noticed this issue before under 10.4.5, it was never a problem. It didn't affect scrolling, or the fans or anything. It was purely just an asthetic bug. However, now, under 10.4.8 (using safari I must add) it really is a problem.
Everything is fine at the site, until you enter a forum thread. Then the time goes crazy. You can do this without needing to login, here http://www.itsagoal.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9D9B62088B9CBF508BBBAB 0785D7BA4F
Could somebody please visit those pages and confirm a few things for me.
    1. That the time (which is top left of the screen) is fine on any non forum page.
    2. That the time does indeed go crazy.
    3. Are there any experts amongst you that have seen this before and perhaps know what the problem is with the site?
    Many thanks
    iLee
p.s. How do I go about debugging this myself so that I can let the developer of the site know whats happening?
Edit: In firefox (and Camino), the time only updates when changing pages and is not a problem at all.

    Hi iLee
yes, the clock runs fast for me too using Safari.
What actual problems does it cause you?
If you enable the Debug menu via Terminal or some third part utility. Then use the User-Agent menu item & set it to "MSIE6" ....... this tells the webpage we're using Internet Explorer 6; and seems enough to get the clock behaving normally. Works for me.

  • Safari trouble after software update

After a "software update" my safari is no longer working. I don't know how to uninstall or re-install it. I also don't know how to install a new web browser without a current web browser? If this makes any sense to you please help me : (

Here are some suggestions for getting the best results from this site.
Create a user profile that accurately reflects your version of OS X, or include that information in your first message.
Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.

  • Creating Wordpress blog entries with Safari 3 loses carriage returns

    Hi all,
Ever since I started using Safari on Leopard, I've been losing all my carriage returns in my Wordpress entries. I don't know what's causing it, but Safari for Tiger, and Firefox 2.0.0.8 running on Tiger, Leopard, and Windows XP don't cause this to happen.
Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening? The carriage returns are apparently getting erased somehow because where there should be a <p />, there's instead no space between the last period of a sentence and the first letter of the next.
    eg:
This is the end of the line. This is the next line
I'm not sure this is fixable by the users.

  • Safari 5.0.6 and hotmail clash

Safari 5.0.6 is giving me 'bad server certificates' on hotmail / live.com servers starting with gfx (from Activities).
Microsoft are advising to change to a new browser like Chrome or Firefox (not compatible with this OS).
Where is the discussion on this ? Help needed. Thanks!

    Oh yes.. A solution!
But does anyone have any warnings about NOT using https, and instead using http when logging into hotmail?  I very rarely use public computers or unsecured networks.

  • Unable to fix Safari 3.2.1 Problems with OnyX

Based upon several forum comments about benefits of using OnyX, I tried to use this application to correct Safari problems. Specifically, Safari crashes often; it stalls while opening additional tabs; it indicates slow scripts in process; and, generally it forgets to save userids and passwords despite preference settings. Our Hawaiian contributor suggests using OnyX for problems like these, so I tried it. These challenges exist: with automation selected and *only one block checked* [maintenance: maintenance scripts], the application stalls out. I've waited as long as 20 minutes with no movement in the progress bar beyond the first third of it or so. Please advise how to set and use OnyX for Mac OS 10.4.11 if that's the problem. If not, please suggest means to correct the Safari problems. Thanks.

    Hi again;
    re: <maintenance scripts (??)>
There are daily, weekly and monthly maintenance scripts built-in to OSX which automatically run in the middle of the night if you leave you Mac on. Onyx, Cocktail, Applejack, etc. provide easier to use front ends to run those scripts which clean logs, caches, etc.. I think Applejack can probe and clean a bit deeper than the other two, but I'm really not sure. Have only read where it will often fix things that other utilities might not. Can't say that I can make anything of any logs it creates either. Basic test is if your machine runs and feels 'well' after (Safari troubles not withstanding). The point of these are to ensure that your system is kept in good order. I may be wrong, but if you've run Applejack successfully (i.e. it ran all 5 steps and completed in good order) then you most probably don't have to run Onyx. There may be something deeper wrong.
In the Read Me file for Applejack it says:
+Corrupted preference files are moved into a directory that will mirror the original preference directory, with (Corrupt) added to the directory name. For example, corrupt preferences files found in ~/Library/Preferences will be moved to ~/Library/Preferences (Corrupt). After running AppleJack, you'll probably want to take a look at them (and most likely throw out those folders). As of version 1.4.2, AppleJack now creates a copy of the directory tree inside the (Corrupt) folder so that if any files were deeply nested inside the original preference folder, they will be placed in an identical directory hierarchy in the new (Corrupt) folder. This way, if for any reason you would want to move a preference file back, you know where it should go.+
+6. AppleJack has a primitive logging mechanism. It writes a journal of most of its activity to /var/log/AppleJack.log. AppleJack will automatically reset the log the next time you run it, if the file should ever reach a size somewhat over 500k.+
Have your checked to see if there was a (Corrupt) folder created and if so, what bad preferences might have been found?
    re: SMART
Newer hard disks have this facility built-in to more or less check hard disk health on a regular basis so as to hopefully identify potential disk problems early before they become a critical issue. Again, I really don't have any idea what it actually does, but it is supposed to be a useful health check, hence useful to do.
    re:Safari 4.0
Haven't touched it and as a rule don't fool around with beta's let alone any x.0 software to help keep my system working well. I have read that there is an uninstall option on the beta installer which will remove all of the beta and restore back to 3.2.1. Assume you've done that?
One more thing – Have you tried Safari in a different user account other than your own basic one? I have created a new User via System Preferences->Accounts and call it Test User. I don't alter this account at all from what is created by OSX, so it is 'clean'. When I have something going on that I can't seem to trace it, I test the same situation in the Test User to see if it is there or not. If things are normal there, then the problem is isolated to my own user account somewhere – i.e. I know better where to look. If things are also a problem there, then it is more likely a system-wide problem. That is how I've traced my own Safari problems to something somewhere in my own account. Safari worked just fine in under Test User.
If the same problems exist in a new User (pointing to a wider system problem), and using another browser like Firefox is not an acceptable option, then you may need to do a new re-install of Tiger (Archive & Install) and start with a clean stabile system again.
    Hope something helps!

  • Why does safari stop opening web pages after a while in use?

Since upgrading to Lion, my imac (Intel) 21.5 works fine for most of the time, but frequently when using Safari to browse the internet, it will stop accessing pages, either from new searches or from history - the blue loading bar in the address panel starts, then stops. Safari itself keeps working, new tabs can be opened, history can be checked, etc. Checking the Wi-Fi shows that it is still connected, and other PCs and ipods in the house can still access the net, showing it is not a net or router problem. Restarting the machine does not usually cure the issue, only shutting down for a long period, eg overnight, when it generally starts up fine again.
This has been happening almost since I upgraded 2 months ago, but not every time we use Safari.

You can do some basic Safari trouble shooting by:
    Safari - Reset Safari
    Safari - Empty Cache
You can also be just low on RAM. As a general rule your system should have about 500MB or more of FREE RAM. To check to see how much your system has open Activity Monitor - System Memory Tab and look for the amount of free RAM. You can find AM in Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor. Remember to check when you are seeing a slow down otherwise the information will be meaningless. The graphic will look similar to:

  • Install of safari 4 and 5 fail on windows 7

Attempts to install either safari 4 or 5 fail on fully updated windows 7. Error message is "error occured during installation of assembly.... HRESULT 0x800736B3

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the Safari trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing Safari again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736B3? If not, which codes are you getting?

  • Why does Safari drop stylesheets after browsing a few pages?

I've got an intranet here at work and we're trying to figure out why Safari drops default.css when we browse around a few different pages.
Basically after a short while, it stops recognising our default.css and renders it all as if default.css didn't exist.
I have checked in the developer tools to confirm that it stopped using default.css so now I am truly stuck.
It only happens in Safari and not Chrome which suprised me. Does anyone know if bad HTML or validation will stop the css being rendered properly?
