  • QuickTime fails to launch: "Unable to load nib file"

QuickTime has decided today that it will no longer launch. When I look at the message generated in Console it says:
"QuickTime Player[300] Unable to load nib file: MainMenu, exiting"
This has been happening since I updated my copy of Fetch. I have tried reinstalling QuickTime but it hasn't helped.
I am running QuickTime Pro 7.1.6 with DivX and Flip4Mac, both of which were installed some time ago and everything has been running fine until this morning.
Any ideas what I should do next?
    Thanks.

Did you repair permissions & restart after the
    update?
I tried repairing the permissions and QuickTime still failed to launch; however, I didn't think to restart the machine. But then I fired up TechTool and it found problems with the volume structure, repaired it, and all is good now. So I'm not sure if TechTool fixed the problem or if it was eventually restarting after repairing the permissions.

  • Mail Unable to load nib file: MailViewer

Mail decided not to work. looking at the console I get:
Mail Unable to load nib file: MailViewer, exiting
I read somewhere that it might have gotten corrupted, and that therefore I need to reinstall. Is there an easy way to install just Mail in its latest version and not go through (likely outdated) pkg installers? Even better, any other way of solving this problem?
    Many thanks in advance.

I would say you have a serious issue with your hard drive. Consider doing a format with zero all data options enabled, and see if it pass. You might also consider buying some advanced disk repair utility to test (and repair ?) the drive (TechTool, DiskWarrior or Drive 10).
Is there an (windows burnable) image "updated rescue disk"?
No, the restore disk comes with each machine and is to keep in safe place.
Use it to reinstall your system and apply the Mac OS Update via Software Update or using the same combo update.

well i hope thats the case... but its a bit strange that neither the beta versions i tested or this ESD version (its not very clear as to if its pre-release - nothing on the splashscreen/about to indicate its not the full thing) can open 4.5 files...  suggests that the beta did not cover backward compatability which is a bit concerning :(hopefully im just missing something simple!from the help file in the '08 version i have here...Xcelsius supports the ability to import a visualization created
with Xcelsius 4.5. This import ability lets Xcelsius 4.5 customers upgrade their
existing visualizations to take advantage of the new features of Xcelsius 2008.
Backup your current XLF, JPEG, and external SWF files before upgrading your
    visualization.
Note: Xcelsius 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 files cannot be
imported into Xcelsius 2008. To use these files in Xcelsius 2008 you must first
import them into Xcelsius 4.5, then import the files into Xcelsius 2008.

    Hi,
Which version of xcelsius you are using now !
The file which you are trying to  open may be created in higher version of xcelsius
So upgrade to latest version and try.
Before opening xcelsius check if EXcel.exe is running from taskmanager -->processes
if that is runnning end the process.

  • Safari unable to load plug-in

Hi, this problem is baffling me. Every web site I go to I can't load Quicktime video or audio files. Every time it tries to load the file it gives me a dialog saying "Unable to load plug-in. The page "blah-blah-blah" attempted to load an Internet plug-in named "Quicktime Plug-In 7.3", but the plug-in failed to load successfully." And it shows me a little Lego block with question marks on it.
I searched the forums here trying to find a solution and I tried every one I found, none worked. I've reinstalled Quicktime, but that hasn't worked either.
Can anyone think of a solution? Am I missing something? Thanks.

Your problem relates to Flash video.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11. (If you are running Leopard, ensure that all plug-ins have been updated for OS 10.5)
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. This: http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index.cfm?email&NewsID=19845 may also interest you.)
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
See also the very informative post from QuickTimeKirk dated Dec 3, 2007 in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1268489&tstart=0
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Unable to load multiple files to Essbase using MaxL and wildcards

I have multiple data files to load:
    Files:
    Filename.txt
    Filename_1.txt
    Filename_2.txt
According to the following link, Essbase is able to load multiple files to BSO databases via MaxL by using wildcards:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/esb_tech_ref/frameset.htm?launch.html
However, when I try to run the following I receive the following error:
    MaxL:
    import database MyApp.DB data from server text data_file "../../MyApp/Filename*.txt" using server rules_file "L_MyRule" on error append to "\\Server\Folder\L_MyRule.err";

    ERROR - 1241101 - Unexpected Essbase error 1003027.
I can run the following fine without any problem, but this only deals with the first of several files, and I’d rather not hard-code multiple files since the number might vary in the future:
    MaxL:
    import database MyApp.DB data from server text data_file "../../MyApp/Filename.txt" using server rules_file "L_MyRule" on error append to "\\Server\Folder\L_MyRule.err";
Any ideas? And how about ASO databases?

  • System wide failure to load .nib files

    Hi everyone,
I've recently stumbled across a problem. Several of OS X bundled applications are no longer functioning due to uncaught exceptions in the application.
    1) Mail.app throws an exception and terminates when trying to open an e-mail message:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '-[NSViewController loadView] could not load the "MessageView" nib.'
    2) Stickies.app (Sticky notes) generates a log record (seen in the console app) when attempting to show a sticky note:
    From the console log:
-[NSWindowController loadWindow]: failed to load window nib file 'StickiesDocument'.
But the application is not getting terminated.
    3) Preview.app has stopped working, but is not generating any log records or uncaught exceptions.
    4) Terminal.app generates a log record when attempting to open a terminal window at startup:
    From the console log:
-[TTWindowController loadWindow]: failed to load window nib file '(null)'.
There might be other apps that could possibly have the same issue
Having provided the background of the issue my question therefore is: What might be possible solutions to this? (Except reinstalling OS X which is the last (and only) option on my list)
    Thanks in advance!
    With regards,
    Valentine

Unfortunately, there is no where to download Apple's applications without reinstalling.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS.

  • Problems loading nib files after class is split into a static library.

I've recently split a project so that the common re-usable controls are in their own class library. My original application project now references these using a cross project reference.
However, since I have split the projects up, my original project crashes when it loads main.xib because it cannot find one of the custom classes which is defined in the library project.
When I first split up the projects, I noticed that there were problems with the nib files not being able to find the IB outlets of the custom classes, but I managed to get around these by going importing the relevant library class files manually (File > Read Class Files…).
I have made sure that all of the nib files compile without warning, so as far as I can tell, Interface Builder is able to read the necessary class headers, but when I try to run the app, it crashes saying that there is an unknown class in the Interface Builder file and that the class is not coding compliant.
Are there any steps I've missed or advice on how to troubleshoot this?

I did a bit of digging. The reason why this wasn't working is because the class in question was referenced by the nib files, but not in code. Therefore, while the code compiled and there were no warnings with the nib files, the linker was not linking the classes because no code used them directly.
This can be fixed by going to the Project Settings, and on the Build tab, underneath the Linking heading, adding -ObjC to the Other Linker Flags section.

  • Safari unable to load Outlook webmail??

I just upgraded to Tiger and now safari won't load whenever I try to log onto my Outlook webmail (working from home today). When I open internet explorer the page loads fine. Any suggestions?!? Is there a security modification I need to make?
On a sidebar, I'm getting totally disenchanted with Tiger and apple right now. First, I find out Mail can't handle IMAP and now safari can't handle outlook webmail. What next??

Safari ver 1.31 seems quite happy with OWA, but both of my systems running Tiger (Safari ver 2.01 and 2.02) are not working well. In 2.01 I got the inbox to load, and was asked for the username/password when trying to open a message (which never opened). In 2.02 I can't even get the inbox to load.
OWA is working with IE 5.2. Strikes me that something has change in Safari that needs to be fixed.
