Safari under Yosemite Crashing my Macbook Pro

Browsing some site or other, it does not matter which...
In this case playing a video on Facebook.
A window pops up with "A graphics error has been detected"  bla bla bla
Did not forward to Apple this time but did in the past.
Strange tick tick tick audio...
Then CRASH
Macbook Pro shuts down totally.
Did not have this problem with any earlier operating systems although never happy with Mavericks for many reasons.
Had this happen 3-4 times now.
No Safari extensions installed and turned off anyway.
Flash Player is the latest version.

  • YOSEMITE CRASHING MY MACBOOK PRO

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro 2010. I recently upgraded to Yosemite. After hours of use my laptop crashed. a beach ball and laptop got stuck. Did restarts, but nothing helped. Finally i decided to put it on safe boot and get my data out. Managed that. after that i erased my Hard drive and reinstalled Yosemite. After hours of use again, Yosemite crashed. Now this time my laptop was empty too with factory settings. posting this in safe boot. Please bail me out of this. Really stuck.
Is this Yosemite having a million bugs or some hardware error?

Safari 5.0.6 repeatedly crashes.  MacBook Pro 10.5.8  I've emptied cache and reset to no avail.  I've tried solutions found in other threads but the more advanced don't seem to apply to me. Help, please.

Not sure what other tests they could run for me. I've pretty much run all the tests I can using Drive Genius and Tech Tool Pro 5. Is there anything they use that I don't know about??

Yosemite made my MacBook Pro so slow !! Need help ? what is the solution?

I've ran a benchmark on my Mac (iMac early 2009). Performance of Yosemite in general was about the same as Mavericks. But that can be different on other Mac's of course. Safari is mostly a bit slower. It's recommended you clean your old internet-caches and then restart Safari. (you can use a little app called CCleaner to do that). That might make a difference. Speed-issues are usually solved in the first and second update of OS X.

  • Flash player crashing my macbook pro

    I have a late 2007 mbp 3,1.
Playing flash video *always* crashes my macbook pro, not immediately but after a few flash player clips. It does not crash the browser but the whole system, and I get a gray screen telling me in different languages I need to hold down the power button to turn off and restart my mac. I have spent hours trying to track down why this happened but to no avail.
The *only workaround* I know is to use the flash player marked flashplayer10r45_2. I have tried all other versions and even excitedly all beta versions, but this problem remains unresolved. And now Firefox 4 won't even accept this version anymore.
    - Is anyone else experiencing this?
-- Do you have a workaround? (one to force FF4 to use the old player or to prevent crashes with any player)

I seem to have solve my issue and wrote it up here http://submanifolds.blogspot.com/2011/04/coolbook-on-macbook-pro-15-22-ghz.html
Long  story short: I use coolbook, and my settings worked for all programs  under heavy loads, but not for flash content, I think that switching cpu  frequencies went a little too fast and the cpu voltage switching could  not keep up, but this is just a guess. I solved it by increasing the  voltages for the upper frequencies a bit and now my computer does not  crash anymore when playing flash. The flash plugin does crash  occasionally, but I consider this normal since I have never seen it  crashing on its own without taking down the whole system with it.
    I hope this helps (anybody)

I did a force close on Safari and after rebooting my macbook pro, i no longer see the Safari icon on the dock.  How do i get i back?

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.

  • Recently, PS CS5 keeps crashing my MacBook Pro as soon as I start working.

Lately, PS CS5 seems to be the villain crashing my MacBook Pro 10.6.8. It doesn't happen with other software. I have run Diagnostics which didn't find any issues. I have upped the RAM on PS to almost 95%. I am thinking of buying new RAM but would like to avoid that if I can. thx.

Reboot the computer holding the option key (just like Capt Fred says) select OS X Lion as the Startup Disk in System Preferences
If you select the Startup Disk of Lion and reboot and still have a issue, it's likely you have a corrupt System Preferences plist file and it's not saving your changes. Please report that if's your issue, I'll show you how to recreate that file again.
    You can also
Reboot the computer holding the command (4 leaf clover looking) and the r keys down, you'll boot into the Lion Recovery Partition.
You can use Disk Utility to select and First AID >Repair and Repair Permissions.
See if you can boot normally or not. If not then:
    For File Recovery
Your going to need a blank external hard drive equal too or slightly larger than your internal drive.
Your also going to need a strong, fast, stable Internet connection to re-install Lion from Apple's servers, and your AppleID and password.
Hold command r and get into Lion Recovery Partition and use Disk Utility (careful) to select your external drive
Erase>Security option > Zero all Data, wait as it takes sometime to finish and checks the drive.
The Partition tab > click box, 1 partition, option GUID, format OS X Extended Journaled and give it name "External Lion" and click Apply.
    Next Quit Disk Utility
Install Lion onto the external drive reboot the computer and hold the option key down, select the external drive to boot from and setup the same user name as before on the internal drive.
Now access the internal drive of Lion and grab your files.
You can use the same procedure to erase Lion on the internal drive and reinstall Lion, all your programs and files from the external drive.

  • I have installed Creative Cloud Desktop but it fails to load. The icon shows up in the bar at the top right but then it just disappears. I am running Yosemite on a MacBook Pro.

I downloaded and installed Creative Cloud Installer and installed the Creative Cloud desktop on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite. The Creative Cloud desktop tries to install when the system starts and the icon actually shows in the top bar briefly and then disappears shortly after it shows up so it is obviously failing to load. I have tried multiple times to no avail.

do you mean in my system library? or where can I find it?

Outlook 2011 slow, clunky and keeps crashing with macbook pro os x 10.8.4 - any hints??  ta

You might look in your User Library for Outlook .plist(s). They probably start with com.microsoft.
    Quit Outlook.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Preferences.  Move the .plist(s) to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist(s) from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist(s) to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

I just Installed Yosemite update on MacBook Pro retina late 2013 will not boot flashing folder with ?

dunno, Lynn--maybe Etrecheck. trying running disk utility to verify the status of your hard drive. That may give you a basic idea. Perhaps tech tool pro.  As for it running hot, I can't say for sure. try shutting it down and using a vacuum clearner +crevice tool around the back of it.  It's been my experience that hard drives usually fail without a lot of warning, luckily you have a backup. Afterwards you can say "Yup, that went bad".  I've done a little research and found out that your MacBook Pro doesn't come with a conventional hard drive as such, but an SSD (solid state device) . It's upgradeable (up to 1 TB ) but not cheaply
go here for more info (OWC) :http://eshop.macsales.com. For right now, I'd recommend resetting the SMC/PMU, maybe zapping the pram . to do that, reboot, hold down Apple+Option, P+R keys while rebooting. Hold down for 3 chimes, let go and let it boot. as for the SMC thing....
I'm assuming your battery isn't removeable-shut down computer, plug in MagSafe cable . On built in keyboard, on left side, press Shift-Control-Option and power button at the same time.  release all the keys and the power button. press power button again to turn on computer
    that is all

  • CS 5 Design Premium crashes on MacBook Pro 13 Retina (OS X Yosemite 10.10)

My CS 5 Design Premium (Student License) worked well on former Macs, but now on my current MacBook Pro 13 Retina (from end of 2013, with OS X Yosemite 10.10) they always crash within minutes, e.g. after choosing other fonts in Illustrator or exporting files. Is there anything I can do to fix this and work with my CS again?

    From the report:
    Safari Extensions: ℹ️
        Slick Savings [Adware! - Remove]
        Searchme [Adware! - Remove]
Amazon Shopping Assistant [Adware! - Remove]
Ebay Shopping Assistant [Adware! - Remove]
Adware  is installed without your knowledge. Removing it will help,
    1. Use  free  AdwareMedic to remove adware
        http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
Install , open,  and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button   to remove adware.
       Once done, quit AdwareMedic.
                 or
Remove the adware manually by following the “HowTo” from Apple.
       http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987
    2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions
Turn those off and relaunch Safari.
Turn those on one by one and test.
Some of the Startup items are obsolete and needs to be updated.

  • Safari constant crashing on Macbook Pro

    Hi,
Safari is constantly crashing on my MacBook Pro. I have used migration assistant to transfer my user and network data but the problem did not seem to start until I updated to 10.4.6.
I have tried all the tips on other posts (deleting icon folder, cache, history, duplicate fonts, plist file, rebooting) but so far nothing has worked. It does not seem to be any particular web page that causes the problem, it just crashes within a few minutes of opening when loading a page. Firefox is working fine but I want to use Safari! Even running using Rosetta does not seem to help.
If anybody has any ideas I would love to hear from you!

This article from MacFixit might just solve the problem for you:
This is yet another case of an issue we've reported on several times -- a result of a PowerPC plug-in operating under a Universal application.
Problems with plug-ins occur when an application is run natively in the Intel environment, but some of its plug-ins have not yet been updated and attempt to run in PowerPC (Rosetta) mode. When this happens, Mac OS X is unable to separate the tasks and simultaneously run the application in native Intel-mode alongside the plug-in in Rosetta.
If you need to make use of the plug-ins, you can tell Mac OS X to force a Universal application to run in the Rosetta emulation environment. When this option is selected, only the PowerPC code will run.
This can be accomplished by accessing the Get Info pane for an application (select the application in the Finder, go to the File menu and choose Get Info or press Command-I), then clicking the checkbox labeled "Open using Rosetta." One such scenario where forcing an application to run in Rosetta is necessary involves Safari.
    Hope it helps,
    Miriam
