Safari unexpectedly closes window and won't reopen till logout/in

Question

Since shortly after upgrading to OSX 10.5.2 I've been having a problem with Safari on my main computer a Powerbook G4 and with the Mac Mini it sync to. I've talked to Apple and they seem to think that it may be my bookmarks that are corrupted. The Safari page unexpectedly closes after a few minutes and although the application stays active I cannot open a new page until I quit Safari and log out and then log back in again. If it is the bookmarks file that is corrupted is there a way to export them to another application, say as a text file and then reimport them to Safari. My bookmarks are very important to me and there are way too many to retype them all. Any other suggestions would also be very appreciated.

On another subject that maybe you can help with or direct me to the correct area where I might get help: Since a couple of weeks after upgrading to Leopard, around the same time Safari started acting up, I suddenly could not open any MS Office X documents, Word or Excel.
Where Apple Discussions is concerned, your best bet will probably be the 'Using Mac OS X Leopard' forum. However, seeing as Office v.X is a relatively old application suite, you might benefit from the corresponding sub-sections in the Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.3 forums as well. But while you're here in our neck of the woods, perhaps we could suggest some simple steps which might aid in pinpointing the problem.
First off, a quick and easy way of narrowing down the problem is again to set up a new 'test' user account in the 'Accounts' section of System Preferences. Log into it and see if the MS applications behave in the same way. If they appear fine, then it could be (but not necessarily limited to) cache- or preferences-issues, or add-ons such as contextual menus, specific to your user account.
If you post back with your results following this, hopefully we'll be able to suggest a few more things.
