Safari uninstall - install previous older version

I responded to the Apple software update prompt and now Safari keeps quitting. Is there a way to completely uninstall the new version and install the previous version? I am not much of a Mac whiz so a very simple answer would be helpful and much appreciated. Thank you !

Hi,
The problem is more likely to be that you have some incompatible Safari extension installed that are causing the crashes.
Go to these 2 locations to see if you have any 3rd party extensions and move anything present in them onto your Desktop to deactivate them:
/Users/YourUsername/Library/InputManagers/
/Library/InputManagers/
Restart Safari to pick up the change. If it works now, you can try moving the items back one by one until you find the culprit.
If that doesn't work, one quick test you can do to help narrow down things is to try Safari in another user account.
This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> \[+\] to create a test one (and \[-\] to remove it if needed)

  • Uninstalled new version, horrible. Installed the older version and now it won't open! HELP WANT MY MUSIC!

I installed the new version thinking it would be the same, It was horrible! uninstalled it... Installed the older version and now it won't open and when I try it says it can't because the library can't open because it was used on a newer version. Come on! I just want my music! How do I open this and get my music back.
I put my Ipod in and it still says the same thing, what's going on? Please help me!

I don't know whom to thank first-- b noir for telling me about the Lorraine fix or Lorraine for figuring out the fix. THE LORRAINE FIX WORKED FOR ME!!! (I feel a little like I am advertising "Hooked on Phonics" with that last line!)
Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!

  • Why can't i install an older version of Flash for IE9 after uninstalling the new version?

Having uninstalled version 11.2.202.233 due to audio problems, why can i not install an older version (11.1.102.62) for IE9?

You should install the updated version 11.1.102.63 that contains a security update.

  • I want to re-install an older version of Flash Player but...

I hope this is the right place to ask this question...
I have a new dual processor pentium laptop and I upgraded to Flash V10.1 a couple of days ago. One web site I access regularly has now slowed right down and the video is unwatchable. My CPU meter runs at over 70% so I simply wanted to uninstall V10.1 and re-install V9. For whatever reason (I don't know if it is laptop, Win7 or Adobe), I am prevented from loading the older version. An Adobe window pops up and says that this (V9) is not the latest version, stops the install and points me back to the Adobe site to download the latest version. I have followed all of the guides to ensure proper uninstallation of V10.1. All very frustrating!
    Can anyone help - please?
    Thanks
    Ian

OK, here I am replying to myself but perhaps others may gain from this solution. Remember, this original post was "how to stop Adobe preventing me from installing an older version and forcing me to take the latest version...". I just wanted to re-install an older version to prevent big CPU usage and stuttering video. Well, this is what fixed it for me an allowed me to install Adobe Flash V9...
Assuming you have properly uninstalled Adobe Flash Player v10.n, you need to remove a folder and files from your registry. If you are unhappy to do this, then ask an expert - the registry is not somewhere you want to get lost in. I am also assuming you have the correct system permissions, Anway this is what I did:
    1. Go to start button and find (and run) REGEDIT.EXE
    2. Rather than give you a specific path to follow, it is best to simply use REGEDIT to find the folder by clicking "Edit" then "Find".
    3. You are looking for a folder called "SafeVersions".
    4. When you find it, it may show a number of safe versions (previous loads of the player).
    5. From the left window pane, right click on the aforementioned folder then click "Delete"
    6. Respond to any prompts you might get, like, "do you want to do this..." etc.
    7. Close down all applications in the normal manner and reboot.
    8. When restarted, go back on line and download the V9 (or whatever version you want). You'll know its a good 'un as it loads in a fraction of the time.
    9. Go back to your web page or whatever and, hey presto, everything is back to what it was before that hungry V10.n was uploaded.
Hope that helps, it might be nice if the Adobe uninstaller deleted this registry entry, but it doesn't - or at least in Win7 on my PC, it didn't.
Let me know it the above works for you.
    Thanks and good luck

  • When I try to install an older version of Adobe flashplayer I get a message that says there is no application that can open it

I have a MacBook Pro and using Mountain Lion.  Adobe automatically updated flashplayer and that wouldn't allow me to use my camera with skype.  I uninstalled flashplayer but cannot install an older version, when I try I get, "Safari can't open the "playerglobal11_4.swc" because no available application can open it."

First repair permissions and restart your computer.  Reinstall the latest version of flash player.  Again repair permissions and restart your computer.

I am trying to download the latest version of iTunes to my PC (windows XP) and I keep getting an error message or two. One is that it can't uninstall the previous itunes version, the other is that it can't find itunes.msi. I have tried removing  the old version in add/remove programs, but it says the same error. (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I can't install an older version of flash player and the new one won't work.

I've read on the boards everyone says to run the Adobe uninstaller prior to trying to install the older version and I did, but the download still says it can't install the older version because it isn't the current version. And the current version isn't running on my computer. All I have is a black screen. I need the adobe flash player to for work purposes and it is really hindering my ability to function at work without it. Can someone please provide some kind of help that may actually work? Because I've uninstalled and reinstalled this several times. I have tried adjusting settings...everything I have found on the boards so far.

My experience (going back to a G5 iMac in 2005) is that you MUST install the lower version first in order to run two different versions on the same machine. I did it that way with CS and CS3, then CS3 and CS4, and later on my MacBook with CS4 and CS5. Now my Mini has CS5.5 and CS6, but I've always had to install the lower CS version first or the higher would keep the lower from installing.
So you will probably have to remove CS4 and then reinstall them both in the proper order.
Is there any particular reason you want or need both? In my case, I already had CS 3 and installed CS4 in addition, but later removed CS3 as I found CS4 was able to do everything CS3 did and then some. In fact I'm unaware of anything aside from some older filters that would run better in CS3 than CS4.

Apple is more likely to see your comments if you send feedback via:

    =Downgrading from iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7=
You may be able to go back with Time Machine but this may involve restoring other items too (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441404).  Alternatively:
Back up your computer first, in case the unexpected happens.
    Quit iTunes.
Get iTunes 10.7 from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1576 or the direct download link at:  http://appldnld.apple.com/iTunes10/041-7195.20120912.d3uzQ/iTunes10.7.dmg
Do a few preparatory steps by making sure all iTunes components are not running and cleaning old files.   See https://discussions.apple.com/message/20475394.  Do steps 3 and 4.  Steps 6-8 may be also useful but I don't know if they are essential.  Some of the other steps are not necessary, duplicate steps listed later in my post or are perhaps even unhelpful in the process.
Replace the iTunes 11 application with iTunes 10.7.  Simply dragging the application to the trash may not work. Lion (OSX 10.7) and newer systems have iTunes integrated into the operating system and deleting is a bit more involved.  Two ways to do this are:
    1.  Use the shareware Pacifist utility (http://www.charlessoft.com/) to install iTunes 10.7 including all associated system files. Details at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=16400819&postcount=6
    2. Check this reference on how to delete the iTunes application itself:
Delete iTunes in Mac OS X 10.7 Lion - http://osxdaily.com/2011/09/13/delete-itunes-in-mac-os-x-10-7-lion/
After deleting the application there may be other files that need downgrading too. See the note about error -42408 at the end of this post. You may want to tuck these away somewhere safe until you have completed the installation of iTunes 10.7.  I have not tested this but ideally if newer versions are not found then the installer will put in the old versions. This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
    AirTrafficHost.framework
    CoreFP.framework
    DeviceLink.framework
    iTunesAccess.framework
    MobileDevice.framework
After doing one of the two procedures above you will have to rescue the most recent old iTunes library from your iTunes > Previous Libraries folder. Rename it "iTunes Library.itl"  and replace the existing one in the iTunes folder. A newer version of iTunes irreversibly updates your library file so you have to replace it with the old one or you will get an error message. Note, this will revert your library to the version at the time of the upgrade and you will have to update any changes made since.  See:

Alternatively, check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup (though possibly if you remove the newer version of these files old ones may be installed with the iTunes 10.7 installer - untested).  A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184

If you previously had iWork '09, those apps are still in your Applications folder in a folder named iWork '09 unless you deliberately deleted them.
If you did delete them & have a Time Machine backup that includes your Applications folder you can restore them from there. In the past the iWork apps have not worked well when copied from another drive, but some users have reported that this works for them, especially if the apps were originally purchased from the Mac App Store. If you originally installed them from the retail disk, find the disk & reinstall them & then update to iWork 9.3.

  • Do I need to Un-Install the older version?

    Hi,
I'm ready to upgrade the Logic Studio!! Wondering, do i need to un-install the older version? Will the New Version just overwrite the older version? I'm affraid about it might takes some of the space from Hard Drive...
    Thanks for advise!!

you can use the search discussion button the right of every page here.
Less quick answer. There is NO need to uninstall your current version of Logic. Installing the new version will install extra files and keep the existing samples, loops, etc - because Logic 8 and 9 use pretty much the same libraries and loops.

  • Installing an older version of fp

Hello everyone. I have a PC with IE 8 and Windows XP. I always used an older version of fp suitable for my old PC. In the last days, Flash Player kept auto-upgrading itself (without me doing anything!) to latest version (13). So I kept uninstalling and installing again the older version, but at the first connection to the Internet, it will always do the auto-upgrade.
So I searched an option in the settings manager to disable auto-upgrading but I didn't found it.
Today I wanted to try a CLEAN downgrade and followed the guide to uninstall Flash.
Then, when I launched the installer of the older version (I tried two different versions, 10.2 and 10.3) it opens a window where it is written something like (I translate):
"The version of Adobe Flash Player you are trying to install is not the most updated. Visit the Download Center to get the latest version."
And there is only the "exit" button.
How can I install an older version of fp? Please help me I need to solve this problem.

In the global settings manager (Control Panel) you can disable it on your PC.
That.... is only half the battle, though. EVERY website with Flash content, at least the ones that are worth their salt, will have code in their pages (expressInstall.swf and swfobject_modified.js) which detect your version and will either prompt you to upgrade, deny you the content, or automatically take you to the download page to upgrade, thus denying you the content you wished to see. Sites do this to protect themselves from the consequences of allowing unsafe plug-ins to access their content, in the event they get hacked, and they end up liable for a class action.
Also, and I mention this because now that XP is no longer receiving security patches, it's important... unscrupulous and malicious sites, which will download malware, will also use these same detection scripts to take you to a fake download site, or blindly download their malware, with nothing in XP anymore to stop it. These villains are aware that XP is now obsolete from a security standpoint and they will proliferate as a result.
There's NOTHING you can do "locally" to prevent this other than disabling Javascript in your browser altogether, whichb will lesad to even more problems with content not loading or whole pages not loading.

  • I deleted my version of Adobe Flash Player for the latest version and then it wouldn't install. Now I have no version and need advice as to trying to install an older version or what?

Since the latest version of Adobe Flash Player wouldn't install after deleting the version I had that did work, should I try to install an older version?
I just checked in the control panel and my add/remove programs and listed is Adobe Flash Player Active X, version 11.1.102.55. But when I tried to view a video I could not and got a message saying I needed Adobe Flash Player. Now I'm really confused?????

    Hi,
What does "still won't work" mean?  Flash Player 10.3.183.90 is very old.  You might find that many sites require a newer version of Flash Player to view content, perhaps this is what you mean by "still won't work".   Depending on your system, you may be able to upgrade to OS X 10.6 which will enable you to install the newest version of Flash Player.  There's lots of information on this on the internet.  Just search for "upgrade OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6" or similar.

  • Flash player v10.02.159 won't install - how can I install an older version?

Hi all, any help will be appreciated.
I've read all the relevent posts in this forum and tried the various suggestions. (used the Adobe uninstaller, used the various packages on the x64 help page; clean installs and uninstalls with RevoUninstaller Pro) shockwave for director is on Firefox, but would not even download on IE. (I don't use IE anyway, but...)
    I am running XP pro x64. I have Firefox v3.6.16 and Internet Explorer v 8 32 bit. I don't have the 64 bit installed.
When I updated to v 10, it wouldn't install on either browser. The error message for the Flash player 10.2 installer reads:
I am also running Chrome. I never updated the player, so it works on there (thank goodness!) (Nothing shows in the extensions folder)
I tried to install an older package, flashplayer 9r280_win.exe and Brothersoftdownloader_for_Adobe_Flashplayer. - clean installs and uninstalls each time., also with no luck.
Can someone tell me how to install an older version until the 64 bit version works for me? Or - if there is a fix that has not been posted yet - I'm game to try.

You could try if the MSI installer works better; download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
If it does not, archived FP versions can be found at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
First, open the Mac App Store and try to purchase Keynote. Some users said it allows you to download the latest Keynote version compatible with Mountain Lion.
If it doesn't work, purchase iWork '09 in a DVD at Amazon, and install it. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the most recent iWork version, or install it from the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1563
