Safari Universal can't access my passwords unless it's running in Rosetta

I just got a new iMac Core Duo yesterday and I've run into this frustrating problem. Thankfully I've narrowed down the issue and found a workaround, but needless to say I would much rather use Safari natively!
When it's running in Intel mode, it doesn't ask me for permission to access the keychain... Nothing. Strangely, I can save new passwords, and they are saved in the same keychain (giving me duplicates) but it just refuses to see the old passwords in Intel mode.
I have tried manually adding Safari to the Access Control list for a password. This didn't make a difference. I have tried deleting the entire Access Control list for a password, hoping this would force it to ask me for permission... No luck.
Here are some additional details:
• My keychain was copied over from my old Mac with the Migration Assistant.
• I have tried copying over a new copy of the keychain manually.
• I have tried deleting all Safari preferences (com.apple.Safari.plist and the entire Home/Library/Safari folder); this has no effect.
• I have tried removing all Internet Plug-Ins (from both the main library and my user library).
• I have tried repairing permissions.
• So far all other applications, including other Universal apps, have absolutely no problem reading my passwords.
• I've tried creating a new user and copying my keychain file there, replacing the existing keychain. Safari will ask me for the password to the keychain, but it still won't read existing passwords! Just like my main account, it will save new passwords to the same keychain, giving me duplicates.

There's another thread of the subject here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1841497
Basically I just kept re-saving them after ever update. Eventually the problem just went away. Starting with Security Update 2006-002 v.1.1, Safari started asking me if I wanted to update the keychain again, and it was able to access all my passwords again. No problems when I installed the 10.4.6 update either.

I have just acquired an iMac desktop (about 4 years old). I want to connect to my Apple airport wireless network, but cannot remember the password. How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it. I already use a MacBook Pro and an iPad on the network and don't want to jeopardize what already works well. I am not all that computer literate.

How can I access the password or, if necessary, reset it.
Read the user manual that came w/your Airport router or you can cross-post in one of the  AirPort Forums for instructions.

If you know the answers to your security questions for the account, you can reset the password without using email authentication by following the steps in the first section of this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5787.  If you don't, you'll need to contact Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click More Products and Services>Apple ID>Other Apple ID Topics>Lost or forgotten Apple ID password.

  • Safari Mac can't access web site that Windows can

None of my Macs can access the site http://cards.123greetings.com . I get Can't Find Server messages in both Safari and Firefox. (Clearing caches doesn't help)
cards.123greetings.com is part of a large free card site that did a major upgrade in October. It still renders correctly on a PC running Windows XP Home which runs on the same network as the Macs, so it's not an isp problem.
Since both Macs (G4 iBook running 10.3, MacBook running 10.4) have the same Can't Find Server problem with both Safari and Firefox, it appears that some setting in the Macs themselves is causing this.
Any help or insight would really be appreciated - Thanks!

A big Thank You to Mulder for letting me know that you can access the site (with Mac Safari I presume) - That's good news.
The bad news: I still can't access the site.
The problem affects two separate computers and four browers. Taking your advice, I repaired permissions and logged in as a new account on both machines. Unfortunately that didn't work.
I next tried accessing the site on the MacBook through Parallels running Windows XP Home. The site came up fine using Internet Explorer.
Then I realized that Parallels operates with a different ip address. So I went back on the Mac using a proxy, and the site came right up.
It now seems that the ip addresses of both computers are being blocked at some level. I want to thank Mulder for replying and virtually ruling out that it might be a Safari issue. I'm now "off topic" and will no longer post in this section. But I'm also over my head... If anyone has advice about how to proceed now, I'd truly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

  • My computer is shared with spouse, can he access my password when utilizing master password?

no problems, just need to know if my password can be access by my spouse who has a master password on mozilla fre fox.
not to sure how this works.

The master password encrypts the passwords that are stored in the Password Manager with an additional encryption level.
So if you use a MP yourself that is strong enough that it can't be guessed then other won't be able to access your passwords.

So make sure that you always log out of websites before closing Firefox.

  • Can't access files now that I'm running 10.9.2

Hi again, i recently went to 10.9.2 but i no longer have access to my itunes my Movies or my pictures and im sure other stuff, the storage display tells me i'm almost out of memory so it's all here some where but i cant get to it, any advise would be great?
    Cheers

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.
For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • None of the drop down menus work they r highlighted gray so I can't access them got the latest updates running lion. 10.7.2 all software is up to date

Just updated everything but when I open iTunes all my drop down menus are gray and I can't selecte them. To close out iTunes I have to use command option esc and force quit because all drop down menus and shaded gray and I can't access them

1 - the sudden disappearance of my 22 mailboxes, used to sort the emails that I need to file for future use
That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail.  Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently?  That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix:  usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected.  There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time.  Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before.  That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.

  • Safari Preferences : Can no longer see passwords:

    I'm using Safari 6.1, OS 10.8.5.
I just went to retrieve a password that I'd forgotten, by going to Safari>Preferences>Passwords.
It hasn't ever been changed. I used to be able to click and put my master password in, to enable me to see my passwords.
FWIW: Autofill user names and passwords is checked.
Show all passwords for selected websites is checked.
Nothing else is checked. Confused ...why it is no longer working?
    Thanks!

here is a screenshot - left photo, after I enter password and click ok...I get the next window....no passwords. Just the highlighted website that I wanted to see the password for.
In the past, after clicking OK....the window would show the password for the highlighted website.

  • My MacBook Pro randomly disconnects from Safari and can only access it after I restart my computer...What is wrong? and how do I fix it?

I restored my MBP to factory thinking that would help...NOPE! I spend a great portion of my day on the web, networking for my writing, what can I do...getting desparate.

While I'm using Safari, whatever site I'm on...freezes, it just locks and won't refresh or do anything. I'm unable to redirect to anyother links or sites. At this moment I have to close Safari and restart my computer to get my internet to work proper again for a short while. I am on a wireless network. Everything worked great with NO problems for the past year then about 3 weeks ago I started having these issues. I've never used anything but Safari. My GMAIL also went funky at the same time and wouldn't display properly. Since I restored my MBP, my GMAIL is working again, but the internet still freezes. When it freezes, my airport still shows full connection.

  • Can't access trash files unless I run file managers with dbus-launch

What does dbus-launch do and why do I have to use it to be able to view certain things on my file managers. For example, recents, trash and network as well as removable media only work if I run:
    dbus-launch nemo
Otherwise, if I just open up nemo normally, I will get an error saying 'Sorry, could not display all the contents of "trash": Operation not supported'.
What does 'dbus-launch' do? Can I get the same functionality without having to type that the same way every time? Can I set up a way for nemo to always start in this mode?
    Thanks for any help.

    use "systemctl status dbus.service".

  • Where can I access / download an iPhoto version to run on a G3 iMac?

My parents run OS 9.2 on an old blue G3 iMac - great machine, but not upgradeable to X. They have a large number of old family photos which I have been scanning for them. Is there an available iPhoto version which I can access for them to run their slideshows? If so, where can I find it? Thanks.

re iPhoto on iMac G3 OS 9 --
All versions of iPhoto require OS X. So if your particular iMac G3 is not going to be running OS X, you will need to use a different application.
Apple requirements for iPhoto 4-5-5 here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93634
    FYI: iPhoto (1) - Jan 2002
iPhoto 2 - Jan 2003, part of iLife (and available free)
    iPhoto 4 - Jan 2004, part of iLife '04 ($49 SRP)
    iPhoto 5 - Jan 2005, part of iLife '05 ($79 SRP)
    iPhoto 6 - Jan 2005, part of iLife '05 ($70 SRP)
I have recommended QPict to several friends and clients who are on OS 9. QPict has versions for both OS 9 and OS X.
It is fairly reasonably priced (esp. compared to some of the other commercial products) around $35, has a fully functioning 20-day trial, and you can find out about it at their site: http://www.qpict.net/
Hope this helps. (sorry noway to get iPhoto running on os9

  • Can't access iTunes store from old mac running os 10.4

Hi...  I have an Mac G4 (PowerPC) running OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger).  It's running the most current version of iTunes that was supported by that OS version.  I'm getting rid of that old machine soon and all I wanted to do was de-authorize iTunes from that computer.  The computer is clearly connected to the Internet but when I open iTunes and try to get it to connect to the iTunes Store, it constantly says an error occurred and it then says to check to see that the computer is connected to the network.
Any ideas why I can't connect to iTunes???  I clearly know the login information so that's not the problem.  Is the iTunes store no longer supporting OS X Tiger or something like that???
On a related question, I see where I can de-authorize all computers from another computer and then reauthorize on the couple of computers where I still want to be able to use iTunes and the store.  Is there any danger with this deauthorize and then reauthorize concept???  Do I risk losing anything on the computers I still want to be authorize to access iTunes???
Any help would be much appreciated...  thanks... bob...

I don't know the answer to the first part (why you can't get to iTunes through Tiger), but regarding the second part, deauthorizing will not cause you to lose any information.  While deauthorized, you won't be able to access some information, but it won't be erased or removed.

  • Can I reset console password on ACS1112 device running 3.3 using 4.1 recovery CD?

    Hi,
I am in a situtaion where I need to reset the console username/password on one of our ACS 1112 appliances. No one can remember it.
We are in the process of upgrading these devices from version 3.3 to 4.1 (latest version we can run on our only ACS1111 device).
The 3.3 Recovery Disk I have does not boot (probably damaged, or burnt too fast). I have a 4.1 Recovery CD, that I was wondering if I could use instead?
The reason I am asking first before trying is I cant run any risk of corrupting the configuration that is already on there, as it is still in production.
    Regards
    Jeff

Thanks for the reply. This is what I thought.
How accurate doe the version have to be. eg there are 4 numbers, eg 3.3.x.y
Can I use any 3.3 recovery CD, or does it have to be specifically for 3.3.x.y?
    Regards
    Jeff
