Safari unresponsive--Network conflict?

I am having trouble with both my new iPad Air and iPhone 5s.  The problem is the same on both devices, so I am posting in the iPad community.  Both devices are running iOS 7.0.3.  Each device has two network connections, an AT&T LTE cellular connection, and a WiFi connection on my home network, using a typical Linksys router that has been working flawlessly with my prior iPhone4 and iPad2.  My internet connection is a typical Time Warner service (15Mbs download and 1Mbs upload).  Signal strength for the LTE network is 3 out of 5 bars in my neighborhood, and my WiFi connection shows max bars.  Speedtest.net reports 15Mbs download and 1.5Mbs upload on the LTE network.
The issue:  On random occasions, I will open the Safari browser and attempt to access a web site that I frequent often (e.g. Google.com).  The browser progress bar moves slightly and then stops, and the page never opens.  I then exit the browser, open Settings, and disable one or the other of the two network connections.  When I re-open the browser, the access to the web site is almost instantaneous.  I can then go back to Settings, re-enable the network connection that I disabled previously, and the browser continues to function properly.  However, at some point later in the day, the whole issue starts again, randomly.
I have rebooted both devices, and done network resets for the WiFi connections.  I don't know any other troubleshooting steps to perform at this time.  It almost seems as if the LTE and WiFi network connections are in conflict.
Looking forward to ideas on how to address this issue.

Update:  I am still experiencing the issue.  For the time being, in order to isolate the issue, I have turned off the LTE connection.  While at my home, I use Wi-Fi anyway, and this will allow me to determine whether the root cause is with the wireless connection.
BTW, in addition to the iPad Air, I still have an iPad 2, and three iPhones (5s, 4, and 3s), all of which continue to operate flawlessly on the wireless network.  If the root cause on the iPad Air is the Wi-Fi connection, I may have a hardware problem.

  • TS3366 iOS 7: Back and Forward Gesture in Safari and Mail conflicts with Panning Gesture

Back and Forward Gesture in Safari and Mail is different than the back and forward gesture used to swipe between Home screens.  The simple swipe with the thumb straight does not work in Safari and Mail, it conflicts with the Panning gesture.  It should be relatively easy to improve the algorithm to allow for that gesture to work.

Indeed, swiping back from pdf pages sometimes works, but most often does not.
It seems that the swiping gesture has in all cases changed slightly. It is now necessary to swipe a little until a portion of the previous page is uncovered, and only then can one swipe back.
The fact that there is a specific way to swipe back from html pages suggests that there might be an equally specific way to swipe back from pdf pages. I am still experimenting. Meanwhile make sure no one is sitting to your right in case your trackpad flies off during a gesture trial.

  • Why is Safari unresponsive since OSX Lion switch

The big idea for OS X lion is finger control - so in switching my iMac  (24" 2.8 GHz Core Duo ) I also bought a wireless trackpad. However, SAFARI at times appears to freeze and fails to respond to finger moves. Connecting the mouse again and still I get poor or no scrolling abilities. Is anyone else experiencing this ?
The just released firmware update isn't for my iMac.
Using Firefox appears to work better - less periods of pausing or unresponsiveness - but both still leave me trying to make the scroll bars appear to then be able to click and drag down the arcticle. (also, clicking out and back in to the window also sometimes causes the page to refresh lower down - but all these tricks are just painful workarounds)

  • Macbook OS 10.5.4 running painstakingly slow, Safari unresponsive

I recently had to wipe my hard drive clean on my Macbook and start over new because it refused to start up and I called Apple support where they informed me it was a disk problem so they had me wipe out everything on my disk and reinstall the software.
I updated everything soon after this and everything worked fine. But after about a week everything started to run very slow. Safari also is mostly unresponsive. Sometimes I can get it to work but it takes close to 5 minutes for a page to load and for the most part it will never load at all and just freeze and most applications quit unexpectedly.
As a long time PC user and this being my first Mac my original thought was virus but Macs don't get them....right? I attempted to run a computer scan just to be sure but the second I started it multiple times it quit on me immediately
Any tips that I can do myself instead of dropping it off at my local apple store?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    There are no Mac viruses.
Any tips that I can do myself
    You can do this!
You profile indicates you are running 10.5.4. You need to update your Safari software ASAP. Go to the Apple Menu/Software Updates. When the installations are finished repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
    For Safari...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Relaunch Safari. If Safari is still has problems, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • Can't install Safari on Networked Windows XP PC

    Hi all,
Just wondering what people thought of this:
At my workplace the computers are all PCs, running Windows XP over a Novell network. Sorry, I don't know an awful lot about networks, and can't tell you what KIND of network it is.
Being an avid Mac user at home, having to use Internet Explorer at work is an absolute torture. I tried to download Safari 3.0 for Windows, and whilst there were no problems opening the installer file, soon after opening the installation file it says install cannot continue because I 'do not have the administrator privileges.'
Just wondering why that is with Safari? Because installing Firefox 3 does not result in this issue? How can Safari for Windows installation be customised so that it can be installed, even though I'm not an administrator?
What is it that Safari does during installation that threatens the Windows XP network so much?
    Curious...

It is possible that the network administrator has restricted installing applications or "Programs" onto the computers. I dont know allot about the installers of Firefox and safari but i would say your best best is to get a "portable" application for web browsing . You will be out of luck getting a portable version of Safari as its closed source and as such it is not posible for anyone to modify it to be a portable app. Your best bet is to stick with firefox.
    http://portableapps.com/
This page has a list of many windows portable apps you can use off a USB stick or from any folder you have write access to.
I know how you feel allot of places use Internet Explorer my work still use IE 5.5 :P and its so poor its silly i always carry as USB stick with portable firefox on.

  • Since latest update, Safari unresponsive when trying to view different images when online shopping,

Since latest software update on my iPad 3, Safari is unresponsive when trying to zoom or open other images, when online shopping.

    Tap Settings > Safari
Tap to clear History, Cookies, and Data.
    Then reset the iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

  • Yahoo mail script -safari unresponsive

We are regularly getting a message saying that a Yahoo mail script is making Safari (3.1.2 for Mac) unresponsive. We are running Leopard 10.5.5. Any solutions??? Thanks.

In addition to being unresponsive, it seems to slow down the Macbook as a whole, but we can't find a remedy. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • IMac Safari Unresponsive

After the update, Safari is still unresponsive, anyone else have this problem?

As with many Safari updates, a third party add on may been compatible with the prior version of Safari but not the update.
Troubleshooting help here >  Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
And go to Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
If you have any installed, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
It would really help to tell us which Mac OS X you have installed and which version of Safari.

  • Safari unresponsive after QuickTime

After watching any video on QuickTime safari is unresponsive; it's like it is frozen. I have to close Safari from the multitasking section, restart it, and then continue using safari. Has anyone else experience this problem?

  • Safari 5, networked users = a world of pain?

Since upgrading to Safari 5 on the computers at the school I work at, when logged in as a network user S5 quits on launch. On local users, it loads fine (on the same computer), but networked users on the same computer cannot load it. We use an Active Directory network with Centrify to link the Macs into the Windows network, so Applecare are hesitant to touch this. However, they have also informed me that this is also a problem with Mac OS X Server.
I have tried to go back to Safari 4 since this was working fine, but after removing all known traces of safari 5, I still get the error message telling me I am trying to install an older version, when a newer version is already installed. I also tried re-indexing, just in case the installer was picking up on "phantom" files. I removed the bom files, the prefs, the caches, the safari folder contents & it still will not let me reinstall S4....
Short of reinstalling the OS on over 100 computers, what else can I do???

    Hi
use Pacifist from http://charlessoft.com to install the 4.0.5 update or Unpkg from http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/ to do much the same thing.
or edit the webkit version plist which is tested by the 4.0.5 install script to see if a later version exists already - then it will work.
Really, Pacifist is the easiest way, so long as you're satisfied the Safari 5 install changed nothing but what will be replaced with Safari 4.0.5

  • Safari http network initial requests is slow

    Hi everyone,
Have anyone noticed a initial slow http request taking about 10 sec. to connect to a website? My connection is DSL and I am trying to debug the network to find out what is(are) the issue(s).
    Thanks for your feedback.
    Eduardo
PS: If I try with the same Safari and Netscape Mozilla connecting to other web sites besides Apple and some other vendors, the page download at the "speed of a bullet."
    Safari Version 2.0.1 (412.5)

Then try this. Open System Preferences->Network pane and click on your current connection (under Airport) and then turn off the Airport card. Then at the top of the pane you will see the "location" drop-down. Use that drop-down to create a new "Custom Location". Don't worry, it will act actually like 'Automatic'. Then after making the new Custom Location look at the bottom of the Network pane for the 'Apply' button. Click on this to save your new Location. Then rejoin your wireless network again. See if this helps, Good Luck.

  • Safari and Network problem

I have an MBP and a iMac 24" both Intel core 2 duo computers connected wirelessly to a BT home hub etc. I also have a MBP 2.16g Intel Duo.
The core 2 duo MBP and Imac both have network and browser issues where the older MBP is ok.
The network drops out and I have to reset them to re connect.
Safari and Firefox wont allow me to login to some web sites with user names and passwords like ebay where as the old MBP will login with no problems
Any ideas, all are up to date and checked for viruses etc

    The probable culprits could be:
    1. Preference files are damaged
    2. Cache file corruption
    3. Incompatible Contextual Menu Items
    4. Incompatible Input Managers
    5. Incompatible Internet Plug-ins
    6. Bad Startup Items
    7. Incompatible Preference Panes
These for starters. They would be items in the /Home/ or /Home/Library/ folder. I would suggest you start by installing AppleJack - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - then following the instructions to boot into single-user mode and run the AppleJack routines - use the automatic mode.
For Safari I would try clearing its history and other caches.

  • SAFARI: NFL Network Videos Will Not Play

Is there a way to get videos from the NFL Network to play? I don't know what type of video they use, but this site, and a few others that I go to just will not let me use Safari to view the movies. I updated Flash to the newest version, still no luck.
    NFL Videos Link: http://www.nfl.com/videos
BTW, if I open up Firefox, and go to the same sites, the video plays just fine.

Those videos play fine for me (just mentioning that to show that they can work!).
It might be wroth your while deleting flash and reinstalling it.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • Safari and network mess

Ok...I have a Netgear router and my mac has problems connecting wirelessly from it. It's not a range issue because it still doesn't conect properly when the computer is close to it. However, if I repeatidly try and connect(say 20 times) it will eventually connect. My computer does recognise the that the network is there but has problems connecting.
Also, if it does connect, safari has problems loading up pages for some reason. It says it can't find the server. However, on some occasions a webpage will load but very slowly. This is when my network signal strength is high by the way.
Safari does not have these problems if hardwired to the internet however.
Would really appreciate some help please. It's driving me crazy!!!

Of late, there have been reports of Safari having difficulty connecting to the Internet, when a 3rd party wireless router is being used, especially routers not considered "mac friendly".
Have you contacted NetGear to learn if there is a workaround, or a recent firmware patch specific to the Mac Platform?
On the home front, are you using a 2.4 ghz digital telephone? If yes, they are known to create wireless havoc.

  • Safari and Network issue

I am having an issue with Safari, ITunes, System Update and Mail connecting to the network. I know my network is working because Firefox works just fine; that is what I am using to post this message. Also, I have ran network diagnostics a number of times and it claims to be working fine. Every time I try one of these programs a message will appear such as: "The network connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again", "Software update cannot check for updates because of a network problem", or "Safari can’t open the page because it could not connect to the server."
I have already tried restarting the computer, unplugging all the lines to my DSL, turning the DSL modem off and on, repairing disk permissions, using the Cocktail Utility, and, as I stated above, I have ran network diagnostics.
So far, all efforts have proven futile.
    Mac Mini (G4)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Okay...
Just in case anyone else has this issue, this is how I fixed it. I just kinda stumbled onto this solution. I have no idea whatsoever how this works, but it does.
I went into System Preferences, clicked on Network, and then clicked on Proxies. In the box "Web Proxy (HTTP)" was selected. I unselected it and clicked "Apply Now". All my problems then mysteriously vanished.
