Safari Update deleted recent history, kept things 1+ y old. Help!!!

I recently updated my Safari to 3.0.4 (Yes, I am using older versions) and when I did, it wiped out my history. However, it must have retained information from over a year ago, as when I start to type in a URL, the drop-down menu only offers websites I haven't visited in years.
Is there any way to fix this? I don't understand why very, VERY old history has been retained, but the recent sites, the ones that matter to me, have vanished. I often took advantage of the sites held in the drop-down menu, and it's very inconvenient that they were lost to me (even more inconvenient that random, old sites are appearing).
In short, I would like to get my recent history (within the last year) back, as well as my old drop-down menu.
As a side note, my cache does not seem to have been wiped out entirely, as when I go to sites with fields, they can be filled quickly if I had them in my history. For instance, yesterday I could log into an airline's website by filling in the first box and clicking enter. It was a site I visited several days ago, before I updated, but definitely not more than a year ago, when my history vanished.
It makes little sense and I need all the help I can get. Thank you!
PS - Is there a way for me to 'undo' an update without messing up my favorite places and Safari in general? I don't like this update much anyway... Every time I try to type in an address, it offers me the title of a website, which is very frustrating and I'd rather go back to my earlier version.

HI,
If you are running Tiger v10.4.11 as your profile indicates, the minimum requirements for Safari is version 4. You cannot run 3.0.4 on Tiger.
As for the history. Avoid url's autocompletion: The url's you see when you start typing a web page address are collected from your History and Bookmarks. One way to avoid that is to turn on Private Browsing from the Safari Menu Bar, Safari/Private Browsing. In private browsing, Safari won't remember the pages you visit, your search history, or your autofill information.

Hello,
Do you mean in Safari>Reset Safari... ?

• When I try to delete my recent browsing history (mostly to delete the cache) the delete recent history button is greyed out so I can't click on it. How can I clear my cache?

Under the history link there is a button "clear recent history" but it is greyed out so I can't click on it. I want to clear my cache because I hate autofill. I've already changed my settings so it won't remember anymore things, but how can I clear what's already there?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
*Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

• Cannot delete recent history as option not highlighted in TOOLS

I click on TOOLS and the option to 'clear recent history' is not live (light grey text). In other words clicking on it has no effect. This is also the same for 'stop private browsing'
All the other options under TOOLS are available (black text).

You have Firefox set up so that it is always in private browsing mode or never remembering history.
To get out of that mode, in the Tools menu select Options. Go to the Privacy panel and if the setting at the top is set to "Never remember history", change it to one of the two other options. If you have it set to "Use custom settings for history", make sure the setting "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session" is not selected.

• Why is my ipad suggesting bookmarks from my iPhone? I turned off iCloud safari and deleted all history, cookies.

I keep getting suggestions when I type a URL in safari and they are bookmarks synced to my iPhone. I did sync these bookmarks at one point to my iPad over iCloud, but since have deleted all bookmarks, cleared cache and history, turned off safari sync in iCloud between devices, turned off my iPad as well as removed safari from the multi tasking bar and I still can't figure out why these suggestions keep turning up when I type a URL. Does anyone have this problem as well, is there anyone with a solution? I turned off all safari syncing on iCloud on all of my devices as well. I have an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2 iPad 4 iOS 6.0.1. Thank you Apple community for devoting you're knowledge and time to us Apple users in need of assistance. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help. If there is such a thing in this situation.

Have you poked around in the settings? there are a lot of things defaulted to on that you may not need, such as background app updates, background app refresh and notifications.

• Safari keeps deleting my history on its own..

I'm on OS X Yosemite, with Safari fully updated. For some reason every few days I find that my history is suddenly deleted. I've set the "automatically delete history after" option to manually, and the only add-on i have is adblock. I've been using Yosemite since the beta started and haven't run into this issue since then. Any help?

• Safari auto deletes web history

I just woke up and open Safari, and I didn't see my Frequently Visited area. I thought it was weird but continue with my day.
Then I see that my entire history is gone, and I didn't do it.
Now, every time I quit de app and relaunch it again my history is empty.
I already check for malware, although is hard to think that's the cause as yesterday I visit the usual pages on my computer.
Any one else has had this problem?

Open the Safari preferences window and select the General tab. What is the selection in the menu labeled Remove history items?

• Safari not showing recent history

The newest item showing in the history folder is from 9 days ago. Other programs (email) are also not filing sent and received items in chronological order. Some items are being buried as far as two years back. I have reset PRAM. It seems that the computer's "filing clock" needs to be reset. I would welcome suggestions for a fix. Thanks.

NotAgain,
I found this:
http://www.forevermac.com/ibooks/AppleMac_iBook_G4_93314.htm
which indicates that a PRAM battery is "N/A" for your model which I take to mean not applicable or better....does not have one.
So, I guess you are back to square one. I don't know much about notebooks myself, but I wonder if it is your actual battery is not holding its charge or something like that. It sounds like a hardware issue to me...but as I say I don't know much about iBooks.
Perhaps it would help to post in the Power, Battery and your iBook G4 forum and see what those users think. Ask if they feel if it might be caused by your battery or have other suggestions.
sorry I couldn't be of more help,

• ***Privacy Compromise*** | Safari does NOT delete the History on Leopard |

After hitting Reset safari and choose history Safari actually deletes the History - at least so it cannot be accessed within Safari it self. Same things go for the Clear History Command.
Here comes the H O W E V E R :
In this location - /User/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/History - ALL the history pages can be accessed and double clicked on in order to get to the homepage one would please...
Imagine there are some web pages that I dont want NO ONE to see that I have accessed. I can reset Safari as much as I please - one thing is for sure - The person in question who wants to access my history can do so - as long as he knows where to look.
IMO - this seriously compromises privacy and totally VOIDS Apple's security guide lines.
I wonder whether this was done purposely or accidentally ?

Try deleting all the files mentioned here;

• How can I recover/restore recent history after it's been deleted?

My daughter deleted recent history. My Facebook account has a layer of protection that stored my computer information. When she deleted the history, Facebook no longer is able to detect my computer and I am not able to log into Facebook. How can I recover or restore the history (everything)?

index.dat is not one of the files used by Firefox, that is for Internet Explorer. You may need to contact Facebook to get access to your account again.
Once history and cookies are deleted in Firefox they can not be recovered.

If Tools > [[Clear Recent History]] is grayed then that means that you are in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
* You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
* To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
* Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

If you regulalry back up your phones in itunes, and havent backed up your phone since this happed, then connect to itunes, click on the restore button under the summary tab and restore your phone from your back up. Then turn on private browsing after thats done.
