Safari (updates and itunes store) can't connect

When using Safari on my home network I cannot connect to any website. I will get messages such as "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.apple.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the web proxy server (HTTP). To change your proxy settings, open Safari Preferences, click Advanced, and then click Change Settings. For help with this problem, contact your system administrator." I am the network administrator. Also itunes store, and software updates will not connect. Entourage and mail receive mail but with question marks instead of images. Firefox has no problems, and when running network assistants diagnosis all seems OK - all green lights.
My son's identical MacBook (with seemingly identical network airport settings, but running 10.5) will connect to the iTunes store and also to websites using Safari, as will both of our ipod touches. My MacBook will actually connect to the iTunes store using my same network when running WinXP using vmWare fusion.
I have tried to change Safari's proxy setting through its preferences, but the Proxies>change settings button is ghosted - so I have accessed the network settings for my home location to ensure that no proxy checkboxes are checked. (I have tried automatically detect proxy settings, but still no go). I have created new network locations and tried many combinations of settings (network assistant's diagnosis is always all green lights, whenever I have used it.)
I have also emptied the system configuration folder from preferences (along with com.apple.internetconfig.plist, com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist, com.apple.internetconnect.plist) and rebooted with no joy.
I have ensured that I have the current versions of Safari and iTunes installed and am at a loss. I don't know when this first happened, and can't think of a change that I have made that would have precipitated this. Safari does function at work on the work's network, and images do come through to my mail at work. I am assuming that I have a setting at home that is blocking. (I have turned my firewalls off and on to check, but again no success.)
I am about to buy an iPhone and am waiting til I can sort this issue. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard.

HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
If you have Safari 3rd party plugins, they may not be compatible with 10.6. Go here for trouble shooting.
If you use GlimmerBlocker by chance, that could be the culprit. Check out this thread.

Same with any Input Managers. Move any files in the /Library/InputManagers folder to the Trash
If you are running Safari in 64 bit mode, try running in 32-bit mode instead. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
Go to ~/Library/Cookies and move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
Try Open DNS - Free / Basic
If Safari still can't open web pages, go to the Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If Safari loads web pages then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

  • I am stationed in England, the connection I have is slooow and the update server times out.  I there anyway to get the iOS 5 release downloaded quicker to my iPad.  My laptop has the current Safari update and iTunes is up to date.

I need help updating my iaPad2 to the current OS.  My connection is slow, but I have the current Safari OS and the current iTunes build on my laptop.  Any advice?

It's a 700 meg download (which you need to download to your computer), so it's going to take a while to download - getting a quicker router or internet connection would speed it up. Or do you know anybody else with a quicker connection who could download the update file for you, you could then copy it to your computer for the actual update ?

  • ITunes Store Can't Connect - It's NOT Winsock!

So I've been through hundreds of posts about this issue and have tried what I believe is everything. I'm having the issue of being unable to connect to the iTunes Store while running Windows 7 on an Asus G53. When I run diagnostics, I am told that the Windows Firewall is blocking iTunes. Additionaly, when I go to the Home Sharing tab, I'm told that Bonjour is not running. However, I clearly have iTunes and Bonjour listed as allowed programs in Windows Firewall, and have used the "Advanced Settings" to manually re-add them several times. Additionally, I have tried:
    resetting winsock protocol (numerous times)
used the autoruns application to discover that the only winsock provider I have running is Bonjour
    opening ports 80 and 443 (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629)
completely disabling Windows Firewall, including the service
reinstalling iTunes 10.7 instead of 11
    flushing my DNS
    running iTunes as an administrator
resetting Bonjour (I can verify that the processes are running)
I am totally out of ideas! Can anyone help?? Please!!

    Checking on something really exotic.
Is your iTunes Help also behaving oddly?

  • ITunes store can't connect with on-board wireless

I am running Windows XP SP3 and my computer won't connect to the iTunes store with my on-board wireless. When I am at work docked and hardwired on the network, I can connect no problem. I am connected to the Internet when I am using my wireless but the iTunes store times out and says to check network connection. I also have a Spring card and I can connect to the store with it, but I would rather connect with my wireless.
Do I possibly have a conflict with the Sprint card even though it is disconnected?

Thanks for the reply. I thought that might be the problem too, but I can connect to the iTunes store if I use my wife's laptop, so I don't think the problem is with the router.
    Any other thoughts?

  • ITunes Proxy Authentication & iTunes Store can't connect

    1) Stop Proxy Authentication Window
To solve the issue with the Proxy Authentication window coming up over and over please add the following to lines to your Proxy Configuration above the first DENY rule:
    acl iTunes browser iTunes
    http_access allow iTunes
    2) Access Content in iTunes Store with Proxy
If you are having any issue with Content being displayed in the Store with Proxy, please follow the steps below:
In the Internet settings remove the tick next to "Autodetect" and "Proxy Server"
Launch iTunes and Connect to the Store (you should see no result when on Corporate network with Proxy)
in the Internet settings add the tick to "Autodetect" (or) 'Proxy Server" (set as you had before)
Launch iTunes and conenct to the Store, you should see content.
If you did above whilst on Corporate network with Proxy you will see badly rendered Content.
If you did above off Corporate network with no Proxy conencted to the Internet you will see the Store rendered correctly.
If you try this step once off the Corporate Network, the rendered content looks correct even when you connect to iTunes store via Proxy after the fact.

I have the same problem. The only firewall which I use is the wondoes firewall

Q since upgrade to iOS6 l have been having problem with wifi connection and getting into App Store and itunes

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

I made some progress. The problem is thatiTunes is looking for a  certain LSP (Layered Serviice Provider). Some antivirus software (PCTools in my case, wants another one.
    1) Disable andy spyware
