Safari upgrade installed now getting message saying my OS X is too old.  Can I re-load old Snow Leopard version 5.1 to fix the problem?

I have OS X 10.6.8.  downloaded and installed upgrade for Safari.  Now getting message saying application requires Mac OS 10.9 or later.  Will a reload of the older Safari cure the problem or do I have to upgrade to the 10.9?

That article, like many others released back at that time in FEBRUARY, was based upon the inaccurate assumption that because Apple did not release a security patch at the same time it did for other versions of OS X, that it must have stopped updating Snow Leopard.
Informed members of this forum have pointed out that the security flaw patched back then was not present and hence no patch for Snow Leopard was needed.
Since that time Apple has continued to support Snow Leopard, including updates for Facetime for Snow Leopard.  Yes, Safari for Snow Leopard has stopped updates past version 5 and an alternative browser should be used.
